Speaker:

Hey, it's, uh, Cousin Vinny.

2

:

Vinny DeRosa here.

3

:

It's, uh, Monday, Labor Day,

4

:

the 7th of September.

5

:

Wasn't there a song

6

:

Was it the 7th of September

or 7th of December?

7

:

It was a song.

8

:

It just kind of just popped into my

9

:

green

10

:

Or your daddy dies.

11

:

Oh God, was it September or December?

12

:

Now, now I'm stuck.

13

:

I got, I gotta find that.

14

:

That's not the reason why I'm doing this

15

:

Life has some strange ups and downs,

back and forth, left, right, just stuff.

16

:

Last couple of podcasts I

did were health-related.

17

:

You know, things that occur in your

life that you would never, ever

18

:

anticipate, guess, or even think

could happen to you, but it happens.

19

:

Happens to all of us at some

point or someone that you know

20

:

and love, and you go, "Wow.

21

:

Wow, that was devastating."

22

:

Well, it is devastating at the moment

in time that it occurs, and I think the

23

:

biggest factor or contributing factor to

it is how you approach it when it happens

24

:

And, you know, I, like I said, I, I,

I did one the other day about all the

25

:

things that happened to me in that

six-year period, and that's just a

26

:

small snapshot of a person's life

27

:

Throughout your life you have

instances that occur good and bad.

28

:

Some are really ugly.

29

:

Some you look back and go,

"Why the hell did I do that?

30

:

What was the purpose behind that?"

31

:

There was no purpose behind it.

32

:

You were stupid, um, careless,

didn't know, you know…

33

:

Well, you knew what you were doing,

but you did it anyway, and it impacted,

34

:

excuse me, people, um, for their lifetime

35

:

I've had people do things to me that

36

:

I look back on and go, "Why?

37

:

Why did, why did you do that?"

38

:

And then you think, "Well,

yeah, I deserved it.

39

:

I've done something shitty to someone

else, so I get the shitty on me."

40

:

A-and that's, that's a bad way to think

about it, but I think that's what most

41

:

people do is, you know, you do something

bad, someone else is gonna do something

42

:

bad to you, so it's kind of a payback.

43

:

But it's not a payback because

you shouldn't have done the

44

:

shitty thing in the first place.

45

:

But I wanna get away from that point.

46

:

I wanna, I wanna talk about the good

stuff, the things that get you to

47

:

another place and point in your life

where you start to realize that, um,

48

:

you're not the center of the world.

49

:

You're just a little

bitty cog in the wheel

50

:

And that there are people who come into

your life, go out of your life, stay

51

:

in your life and cause you grief, uh,

or leave your life and cause you grief

52

:

I

53

:

I've been reflecting on a lot of

things these last five, six years

54

:

about what's really important.

55

:

And I think just in the last six, nine

months, my life was at a high point.

56

:

Things were never like that before

in my entire life where I felt,

57

:

wow, it's all come together.

58

:

Um, I, I have someone in my life

that I truly enjoy being with

59

:

And started to build things, and I totally

destroyed it because I didn't change me.

60

:

I tried to stay who I was, which

61

:

Was at times arrogant, stupid,

selfish, self-centered.

62

:

We all go through it.

63

:

No one, no one's perfect.

64

:

And I, I, uh, messed up

65

:

Not deliberately, but because of

my, um, mental being at the time.

66

:

And in the last six months, I've had

a lot of soul searching, and you can

67

:

see and hear some of it in my voice

and over the things that I've recorded,

68

:

and some of the realizations that I've

come to understand better each day

69

:

One instance or one incident

can frame a lifetime

70

:

You can't undo the screw-ups.

71

:

You did it, you know?

72

:

All you can do is pray that it, it,

it didn't cause too many issues.

73

:

But, you know, I, I, I've

had stuff done to me and I've

74

:

done things to other people.

75

:

You know, we, we all do it.

76

:

And I've

77

:

come to the point where I've asked

God to say, "Okay, um, you know what

78

:

I've done and what's been done to me."

79

:

I mean, there, the, the, the…

80

:

I, I, I, I've had things happen to

myself personally that I look back

81

:

and go, "Wow, that was pretty cold

82

:

I, I'm, I'm at that point now where

my life has taken a total complete 180

83

:

I, um

84

:

softer, smarter.

85

:

Uh, not maybe not smarter, but

more in tune to what's around

86

:

me, what's most important to me.

87

:

How much more time do I have?

88

:

Don't know.

89

:

Don't know when the clock's gonna run out.

90

:

But until it happens, my

focus and goal is to…

91

:

You can't undo what you've done, but all

I can do is, is go from this point and

92

:

Find ways to…

93

:

You can never make things better.

94

:

I mean, you know, I had stuff done to me

as a kid and as an adult in relationships

95

:

that I hurt some people and they

hurt me and, you know, you know, the

96

:

typical bullshit that goes on in life.

97

:

And later on you realize

and go, "Why did I do that?

98

:

That was such a waste of time and

energy," and put people through grief,

99

:

and they put me through some grief

100

:

That was yesterday.

101

:

That was yesterday.

102

:

And I always keep on saying,

you know, yesterday's done.

103

:

Yeah, you can't change it.

104

:

It happened.

105

:

It's over with.

106

:

Yes, it is.

107

:

Tomorrow, like I've said before too, and,

you know, uh, and, and it's been said

108

:

many a time, not only by me, but by many

others, there's no guarantee for tomorrow.

109

:

I can get done with this recording

like I've said in the past, and it

110

:

never gets posted, and it sits in my,

uh, files and no one ever hears it.

111

:

Or I can deal with it today.

112

:

So what I'm talking about is today.

113

:

Not tomorrow, not yesterday, today

114

:

Each morning I open my eyes

and thank God I'm still here.

115

:

And then I say, "Okay, what

is my mission for the day?

116

:

What is it that needs to be

addressed right now at this point

117

:

in time that's most important?"

118

:

I think the most important thing is

that you wake up with a clear mind.

119

:

You're focusing on, "Okay, here are the

things that I didn't get done yesterday.

120

:

Obviously, they weren't that important

'cause I didn't get them done.

121

:

You know, do I need to

worry about it today again?"

122

:

Well, if it wasn't that important

to finish yesterday, then

123

:

it's not that important today.

124

:

It was just a fleeting moment of, of, of

things you thought you needed to get taken

125

:

care of, and they weren't that important.

126

:

It wasn't, uh, high on the, on

the list of, uh, things that

127

:

Um, what's the, what's

the word I'm looking for?

128

:

It's, it's not high on the list

of, um, priorities, you know?

129

:

Um, I woke up this morning and I've been

fluctuating with my, uh, sleeping habits.

130

:

I got in such a habit that, you know,

I wouldn't go to sleep until 1:00,

131

:

2:00 because I was so enthralled with,

you know, I got, got, got into the

132

:

YouTube and, and I'm watching things

on financials, you know, where the

133

:

market is going and, um, with XRP

and, and what's going on with silver

134

:

and gold and, and, and the financial

end of it and worrying about things.

135

:

But you know what?

136

:

There's nothing I can do

about that again, too.

137

:

I don't have any control of that.

138

:

So I, I've learned to now, you know, just

let that be part of the background noise

139

:

I woke up this morning about

8:30-ish without an alarm clock.

140

:

I woke up, and I slept well for, uh,

first time in a long time 'cause I

141

:

didn't toss and turn 50,000 times.

142

:

I'm gonna start making a concerted

effort at evenings to just kinda shut

143

:

down the head, the mind, the thinking

about all the things that I shoulda,

144

:

coulda, woulda done, and just think

about the good things that happened

145

:

that day, even if they were minuscule.

146

:

You know, made a good dinner, went to the,

the grocery store, to the gym, or whatever

147

:

it was, you know, it was a positive thing.

148

:

Uh, called someone who I hadn't spoke

to in a while, and what triggered that

149

:

part is my good friend Frank, who passed

away unbeknownst to me, because we had

150

:

talked a couple of days before he passed,

making plans on him to come visit.

151

:

That visit never happened, and I think

that's been weighing on me the last

152

:

couple of weeks that hit me in the

head, really hit me in the head that

153

:

there's no guarantee of tomorrow.

154

:

And that's why I keep on saying when I

start these podcasts that yesterday's

155

:

gone, tomorrow's not a guarantee.

156

:

I'm gonna talk about the here and now.

157

:

I'm doing this recording,

you know, today at noon-ish.

158

:

Um, when I get done with the,

the end of it, I'll hit stop.

159

:

What happens to it from

that point, I don't know.

160

:

Excuse me.

161

:

You know, I'm having the coughs.

162

:

I noticed this in the last six months.

163

:

When I get stressed about something

or when I'm about to talk about things

164

:

that are, that are, uh, deep and

hard, I make this little hack cough.

165

:

It's, it's not a, it's not a guilt cough.

166

:

It's just a nerve cough that

something I'm about to say or do

167

:

is, is, is, is, is affecting me.

168

:

And see?

169

:

I did it again.

170

:

Now, the last couple of recordings I

did were just talking about my illnesses

171

:

and all the things that I went through

and the people that were involved in

172

:

my, my recovery, and very few times did

I ever sit there and clear my throat.

173

:

Why?

174

:

Because those things were important.

175

:

Those people were

important to me in my life.

176

:

I, I thought about every single person

that had a hand on me, you know,

177

:

during those six years, during the

blindness and the hip and the cancer,

178

:

you know, and, and then now the

neuropathy in my feet and my teeth.

179

:

You know, th-there's all these components

there it goes again, that impacted me.

180

:

And like I said, over the last month

181

:

I kind of think, "Why, why am I here?"

182

:

And I'm gonna keep asking that.

183

:

Why am I here?

184

:

Maybe one day it'll, it'll, it'll

come to me in, in, you know, blinking

185

:

lights and a s- you know, it'll,

it'll scroll across my eyeballs and

186

:

it'll go, "Here's why you're here."

187

:

I don't know why I'm here

188

:

I know that there's some people

in my life who are extremely

189

:

positive, uh, impacts on me.

190

:

Whenever I talk to them, uh, I am so proud

of them, uh, of their accomplishments,

191

:

what they're doing, what they're achieving

and, and, and doing with their lives.

192

:

It's, it's, it just, it moves

me to, to no end of degree.

193

:

I mean, I'm just so happy that I could at

least hear and, and s- and, and witness

194

:

their, their growth and their potential.

195

:

And at some point in the future,

I'll be able to talk about it more.

196

:

And when I do, oh man, it's,

it's gonna be so exciting.

197

:

Again, will I be there?

198

:

I don't know.

199

:

I hope to be there when it happens.

200

:

Um

201

:

I, uh

202

:

Background song, song is "O Sole Mio."

203

:

Typical Italian song you

grew up with as a kid.

204

:

Uh, just like the "We Mari" from

my grandmother and my aunt, you

205

:

know, and someone else special.

206

:

Kind of reminds me of,

um, just their presence.

207

:

But "O Sole Mio," uh,

the Italian theme song.

208

:

I didn't…

209

:

You know, I watch a lot of these videos

on, on YouTube and Instagram and all

210

:

these other places, and all these even

individuals who are from the Northeast

211

:

and New York area with the New York

accent, with the Italian accent.

212

:

Some of it's real, some of it's fake.

213

:

I, I can tell the fakies.

214

:

You know, they put on the play and

put on the show of acting like,

215

:

you know, the, the old Italian.

216

:

They're probably third

or fourth generation.

217

:

I'm first generation.

218

:

My parents came over on the boat.

219

:

I didn't speak English until I was five.

220

:

You wouldn't be able to tell

it from my voice, from my

221

:

mannerism, the way I, uh, talk.

222

:

I, I had friends of mine that talk

like, you know, the typical New York.

223

:

Um, I talk to my cousin Vinnie,

and he's got that in his voice.

224

:

I can hear it, you know, because

that's the place he grew up.

225

:

But I grew up there too.

226

:

I was 18 years old when

we moved here to Florida.

227

:

So I still had that in me, but I knew that

I didn't wanna become, not stereotyped,

228

:

because then people will prejudge, "Oh,

he's Italian, he's this, he's that."

229

:

Yeah, I am Italian.

230

:

I'm proud of it, but I'm also an American

231

:

What really has happened over the last few

months is made me softer, smarter to some

232

:

degree, more aware of my surroundings.

233

:

Again, a lot of people who have the

ability to do what I'm doing, a- and this

234

:

is, this is not restricted to anyone.

235

:

I mean, anyone can sit in

front of a microphone, talk,

236

:

and put it on the internet.

237

:

You see it on YouTube and, and, you know,

all the other places that they get on and,

238

:

and, and chit-chat and put their stuff on.

239

:

But a lot of things I see,

excuse me, are the subsurface.

240

:

They're, they're not, they're not going

deep into their, their, their psyche

241

:

I'm hoping that, not hoping, I'm,

I'm planning on over the next

242

:

weeks or so is to do some more, uh,

in-depth, uh, conversations about real

243

:

facts, real figures, uh, impacting.

244

:

I have a active legal real estate license.

245

:

Now, am I active in the community

doing any of it at the moment?

246

:

No.

247

:

Doing my real estate school

online, not in the classroom.

248

:

Uh, that will be coming back soon.

249

:

Will the brokerage side come back?

250

:

Probably to some degree, but

not as, as active as it was.

251

:

My focus between now and the day I check

out is basically to be a thorn in the

252

:

Association of Realtors' ass until I die.

253

:

This is Vinny Derosa.

254

:

Thank you for listening
