This week, Fiona and guest host Rob from the Realm of Fire podcast go back in time to check out possibly the first-ever campaign setting of Dungeons and Dragons -
Originally evolved in the early 1970s as the personal setting of Dave Arneson, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, Blackmoor was first used for Arneson's miniature wargames, then as an early testing ground for what would become D&D.
Blackmoor is the longest continuously played fantasy role-playing campaign in existence. It is a mysterious land of sword and sorcery mixed with relics of highly advanced technology.
Books discussed:
- 'Dungeons & Dragons Supplement II: Blackmoor' by Dave Arneson, published by TSR Rules, 1975.
- 'The First Fantasy Campaign Playing Aid' by Dave Arneson, published by Judges Guild, 1980.
- 'Adventures in Blackmoor' by Dave Arneson and David J. Richie, published by TSR, 1986.
- 'Temple of the Frog' by Dave Arneson and David J. Richie, published by TSR, 1986.
- 'City of the Gods' by Dave Arneson and David J. Richie, published by TSR, 1987.
- 'The Duchy of Ten' by David J. Richie, published by TSR, 1987.
- 'Dave Arneson's Blackmoor Core Campaign Book' published by Zeitgeist Games, 2005.
