Shownotes

Tired of being told how to breathe? This one barely says a word. Nothing to get right, nothing to get wrong.

About 10 minutes with Steven Webb's calm voice and music underneath. Mostly quiet.

No one tells you where to put your hands. We just sit together and do very little. Your mind will wander off, to the shopping or what's for tea, and that is fine. That is what minds do. We notice we've been away and come back to this moment. That isn't failing at meditation. That is the practice. Near the end, a minute of just listening, doing nothing with what you hear. Meditation doesn't have to be complicated. It can be done just by becoming aware.

Treat me to a coffee, keep the podcast free, and get my Weekly Calm every Sunday. It is all on stevenwebb.uk

Thank you for sitting with me.

Transcripts

Steven Webb:

Hi, I'm Steven Webb, and welcome to a meditation with very little instructions.

Steven Webb:

No one's going to tell you how to breathe,

Steven Webb:

No one's going to tell you where to put your hands,

Steven Webb:

And we're going to just sit together, and let this be easy.

Steven Webb:

And we're going to do very little.

Steven Webb:

I will be very quiet in this meditation at times, and I will keep an eye on the clock.

Steven Webb:

So allow your body to breathe,

Steven Webb:

And allow your body to relax.

Steven Webb:

And we just allow these things to happen.

Steven Webb:

Your body already knows how to do them.

Steven Webb:

You'll often notice that your mind will wander off. That's fine. That's what the mind does.

Steven Webb:

It may have gone to the shopping or a conversation yesterday, or what you're going to do for tea.

Steven Webb:

We're not going to stop the thoughts.

Steven Webb:

We're just going to notice them,

Steven Webb:

Notice we've been away,

Steven Webb:

And just bring it back to this moment.

Steven Webb:

Awareness of your breathing.

Steven Webb:

Awareness of this moment.

Steven Webb:

Whatever is happening right now, just let it happen.

Steven Webb:

It could be a sound, an itch,

Steven Webb:

A feeling you did not ask for.

Steven Webb:

We don't need to fix any of it.

Steven Webb:

We just allow this moment to be what it is.

Steven Webb:

That's all we're doing here, just...

Steven Webb:

That's all we're doing here, just being aware.

Steven Webb:

Meditation is only ever this:

Steven Webb:

Just coming back to the now.

Steven Webb:

You'll find yourself going off into a story,

Steven Webb:

Or planning what happens next.

Steven Webb:

This isn't failing meditation. That is the practice.

Steven Webb:

The muscle we are building is noticing that, and then returning to the now.

Steven Webb:

And you'll notice when you allow this moment to be, and you allow your breath to be,

Steven Webb:

And just bring your awareness, you notice the mind does go quiet.

Steven Webb:

And as we're going to come to the end of the meditation,

Steven Webb:

Let's spend the last minute or so just listening.

Steven Webb:

Just listening.

Steven Webb:

Doing nothing with what you can hear.

Steven Webb:

Just allow it to happen.

Steven Webb:

And that was it.

Steven Webb:

That was a meditation.

Steven Webb:

Nothing to get right.

Steven Webb:

Nothing you could get wrong.

Steven Webb:

Just you, in this moment.

Steven Webb:

A bit of coming back.

Steven Webb:

In a moment, I'll guide you back.

Steven Webb:

And just take this with you into the day.

Steven Webb:

Whenever it gets loud, we can just return to now.

Steven Webb:

Return to what is. Return to this breath.

Steven Webb:

So as you just gently open your eyes, gently move your arms, wiggle your fingers,

Steven Webb:

And just look around, and just...

Steven Webb:

Appreciate that meditation doesn't have to be complicated.

Steven Webb:

It can be done just by becoming aware.

Steven Webb:

Thank you for sitting with me today, and it does mean a lot.

Steven Webb:

And just before you go, all these meditations are brought to you by people just treating me to a coffee.

Steven Webb:

And I always said as long as I can cover the cost,

Steven Webb:

There'll be no adverts ever in these meditations.

Steven Webb:

So if you can support or you'd like to find out about The Stillness in the Storms podcast about helping people through difficult times,

Steven Webb:

Or like to message me,

Steven Webb:

Just head over to stevenwebb.uk.

Steven Webb:

Thank you. Namaste.
