Shownotes

The episode emphasizes that it is perfectly acceptable to ask God for success in our endeavors, as demonstrated through the story of Abraham's servant seeking a wife for Isaac. This servant's prayer highlights the importance of seeking success not for selfish gain, but as a means to fulfill the promises made to others, particularly Abraham. David Spoon discusses the balance between asking for personal success and ensuring that such requests align with God's will and serve a greater purpose. He stresses that prayer should come with the right motives, focusing on how our requests can benefit others rather than just ourselves. The episode also touches on the significance of maintaining a good reputation and the ripple effect of God's blessings in our lives, encouraging listeners to engage actively with their faith through prayer and reflection.

Takeaways:

  • It's important to document the blessings in our lives through a personal journal.
  • Asking God for success in our endeavors is not only acceptable but encouraged.
  • Understanding the difference between selfish motives and genuine requests in prayer is crucial.
  • The ripple effect of God's blessings can impact those connected to us significantly.
  • Maintaining a good reputation is more valuable than having great riches or wealth.
  • Prayer during difficult times can help us gain patience, wisdom, and strength.

The discussion takes a deeper dive into the theme of divine communication, exploring how individuals often misinterpret God’s messages, expecting grand gestures when they may come in subtle, everyday forms. David Spoon invites listeners to engage more actively in their spiritual lives, suggesting that they keep a 'Jesus journal' to track God's blessings and interactions in their lives. This practice serves not only as a personal reminder of God’s faithfulness but also as a source of encouragement during challenging times. Spoon stresses the importance of recognizing and documenting the small victories and divine nudges that can easily be overlooked in the bustle of life.

Moreover, the episode delves into the mechanics of prayer, particularly the idea of asking God for success. Spoon argues that seeking success is not inherently selfish; rather, it is about the intentions behind those requests. Drawing from biblical narratives, he illustrates that when we ask for success, it should be with the desire to serve others and glorify God, not merely for personal gain. This perspective shifts the conversation from a transactional view of prayer to a relational one, emphasizing that prayer should foster a deeper connection with God and align our desires with His will. The episode culminates with Spoon encouraging listeners to be bold in their prayers while maintaining a heart aligned with God’s purposes, reinforcing the idea that God not only hears our prayers but is also intimately involved in our lives.

Transcripts

David Spoon:

And now for something completely different.

David Spoon:

Here's what's coming up this hour on today's experience.

David Spoon:

It's fantastic, phenomenal, always fun, usually somewhat fascinating Friday as we head into the weekend, not being afraid even if the earth gives way or the mountains fall into the seas, because our help comes from the Lord.

David Spoon:

Now, before I do this introduction, I have to say this.

David Spoon:

We just did a 20 minutes straight rant on God speaking and people misunderstanding God's voice and thinking it thundered.

David Spoon:

And what was the fill right after that?

David Spoon:

But the one that I talked about years ago about God speaking and people thinking that it thundered.

David Spoon:

If you did not hear the first 30 minutes of this show, I am telling you now, you should get the podcast when it gets up there and listen to it because God is talking to us.

David Spoon:

Think about that.

David Spoon:

The Lord is speaking to you and I cannot miss it.

David Spoon:

If you weren't listening to this radio show, you might.

David Spoon:

You just wouldn't get.

David Spoon:

This was just incredible what just happened just now.

David Spoon:

The very fill affirming what was just taught.

David Spoon:

Come on, folks, you can't make this stuff up.

David Spoon:

Get it?

David Spoon:

All right, now to today or the rest of the lesson for today.

David Spoon:

Our first topic, which I tried to teach.

David Spoon:

I tried to teach all three of these messages before and never got to them.

David Spoon:

So I took all three and put them together.

David Spoon:

So now I'm really interested to see what the Lord will do.

David Spoon:

The first topic is the Jesus journal.

David Spoon:

Okay?

David Spoon:

Again, if you want to use that name for a product, you can just do that and contribute 10% to the ministry.

David Spoon:

That would be fine.

David Spoon:

It's all yours.

David Spoon:

The Jesus Journal is a record of all the blessings Jesus has bestowed upon our lives.

David Spoon:

Regardless of how long you've been a Christian, you could start your Jesus journal today.

David Spoon:

It may not contain the past 50 years, but it could document either the next 50 years or the next 50 moments that God talks with you, or even just the next five years, months, weeks, doesn't matter.

David Spoon:

It will serve as a reminder of God's faithfulness.

David Spoon:

How important is that?

David Spoon:

Next, the following.

David Spoon:

Devotion dd devotional diamond of the day from doctor Dave is it's okay to ask, so what does that mean?

David Spoon:

There are times when we face a situation, a circumstance, or a crossroad that definitely requires confirmation, direction, understanding and success.

David Spoon:

There is nothing wrong and everything right with asking God to help us in this.

David Spoon:

The mistake lies in trying to use these blessings and successes for selfish purposes.

David Spoon:

And finally, if you've ever watched sports on television, which many of you have, you remember the simplicity of the international soccer crew.

David Spoon:

The ball, the nets, the low scores.

David Spoon:

But when a team scores, the announcers are famous for their elongated cry of go.

David Spoon:

How do soccer teams keep playing until they score?

David Spoon:

Especially because of the low scores.

David Spoon:

They keep their eye on the prize, understanding the difference between winning and losing.

David Spoon:

Do we keep our eye on the prize?

David Spoon:

It might surprise you to learn that sometimes it's beneficial to keep our eye on the stick.

Doctor Dave:

Two David Spoons life has been an experience.

Doctor Dave:

While growing up in a jewish family, he made a wrong turn towards drug abuse.

Doctor Dave:

Then David Spoon found Jesus Christ and his life completely changed.

Doctor Dave:

The more he studied the gospel, the more he wanted to share his experiences with others.

Doctor Dave:

After 35 years of ministry, David discovered a new path of service.

Doctor Dave:

He joined KaAM and this radio program began.

Doctor Dave:

You're about to hear the David Spoon experience.

David Spoon:

Welcome to the David Spoon experience.

David Spoon:

Local, national and heavenly talk.

David Spoon:

Here's what else we're looking at during the show.

David Spoon:

Lessons for surviving living and prevailing politics, entertainment and current events.

David Spoon:

Personal revelations, spiritual observations.

David Spoon:

My life's insanities.

David Spoon:

Oy, they so much more.

David Spoon:

Now remember, it's not professional radio.

David Spoon:

And just to verify it's not professional radio, we will talk to the shepherd of professional radio.

David Spoon:

How about that?

David Spoon:

Our very own Jammin Jacob.

David Spoon:

Jammin Jacob.

David Spoon:

Is this the David Smoon experience?

David Spoon:

Professional radio?

Jammin Jacob:

Hello, everyone.

Jammin Jacob:

It is the shepherd here.

Jammin Jacob:

And no, it is not professional radio.

Jammin Jacob:

David.

David Spoon:

Like that one.

David Spoon:

That's a good one.

David Spoon:

It really goes with the motif of the show, you know, it's just really right in there.

David Spoon:

That's right.

David Spoon:

This is not professional radio.

David Spoon:

It's hardly radio.

David Spoon:

Two strings, two cans.

David Spoon:

I mean, in a string.

David Spoon:

See, I couldn't even get that joke right.

David Spoon:

That's how bad I am.

David Spoon:

Here's the bottom line.

David Spoon:

The bottom line is if you want to reach out to us, you can.

David Spoon:

Here's what you can do.

David Spoon:

You can email us.

David Spoon:

Totally cool.

David Spoon:

I get emails during the show.

David Spoon:

Works really, really, really does work.

David Spoon:

Davidhe mustincrease.org dot I get some emails I can't repeat on the air.

David Spoon:

That's besides the point.

David Spoon:

David mustincrease.org dot I also get texts and you can text us live during the show.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

All right now.

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Why would you do it?

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Well, you can share a testimony, a praise report.

David Spoon:

We love it.

David Spoon:

It's great to do it.

David Spoon:

It honors God.

David Spoon:

It blesses other people.

David Spoon:

It's totally awesome to hear.

David Spoon:

You can share a prayer request.

David Spoon:

It could be something that's on your heart.

David Spoon:

You need to have prayer for.

David Spoon:

We need prayer for this.

David Spoon:

This thing is not working the way we need it to.

David Spoon:

Or I don't understand it or I want to get more in sync with the Lord about it.

David Spoon:

It could be something that you want to share, something the Lord's put on your heart.

David Spoon:

Sergio just called in and asked the most simplistic, you know, I'm noticing this conversation between God and the people and between that and the opening question, right.

David Spoon:

And between what we were sharing and what Eric shared with us.

David Spoon:

And then the fill, we had 30 minutes where the Lord was going.

David Spoon:

I am speaking just by sharing what was on his heart.

David Spoon:

Maybe you got that going on.

David Spoon:

Who knows?

David Spoon:

We'll just see what the Lord does.

David Spoon:

Maybe you got an answer to Bible trivia.

David Spoon:

I don't know.

David Spoon:

Let's see if you can do this one.

David Spoon:

What man in the Bible was called the son of encouragement?

David Spoon:

Acts, chapter four, verse 36.

David Spoon:

Acts, chapter four, verse 36.

David Spoon:

What man in the Bible was called the son of encouragement or actually the son of consolation.

David Spoon:

That will also be good.

David Spoon:

But the son of encouragement acts chapter four, verse 36.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Acts chapter four, verse 36.

David Spoon:

Two things to tell you.

David Spoon:

Number one, we do understand they're still a little static.

David Spoon:

It's getting a lot better than it was the previous week.

David Spoon:

But you just got to bear with it because we cannot control what they do on the mountains.

David Spoon:

It's very difficult to explain there.

David Spoon:

So we're definitely working on that.

David Spoon:

Number two, and one of the things that somebody texted in and I want to respond to it, it's really, really, really important to understand that when the Lord does speak to you, this is something that just really popped on my heart.

David Spoon:

Some of us will go, could that actually be the Lord?

David Spoon:

And the difference between that and Abraham is that Abraham heard it and believed that's the difference.

David Spoon:

See, he heard the voice of God and believed it.

David Spoon:

He mixed it with faith.

David Spoon:

Isn't that amazing?

David Spoon:

Anyway.

David Spoon:

All right, so which man in the Bible is called the son of encouragement or the son of consolation?

David Spoon:

That would work, too.

David Spoon:

Acts, chapter four and verse 36.

David Spoon:

Who is that?

David Spoon:

If you think you know, you can reach out to us.

David Spoon:

In the meantime, we will do our DNA because we love DNA.

David Spoon:

I love DNA.

David Spoon:

D stands for draw closer to the Lord daily.

David Spoon:

Okay, now, again, great scientific studies have been done at every major university in the entire world to determine that the word daily means every day.

David Spoon:

Okay, cool.

David Spoon:

Draw closer to the Lord daily.

David Spoon:

D n.

David Spoon:

Never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

Never be ashamed of what Jesus had to say, ever.

David Spoon:

Ever.

David Spoon:

I was just reading in my devotions today, second Peter, chapter three.

David Spoon:

Peter is writing about Paul, and he says, our brother Paul, who writes things which some things are hard to be understood.

David Spoon:

I don't know if you folks have read that or not in two.

David Spoon:

Peter, chapter three.

David Spoon:

But it's Peter going, Paul, man, he's kind of, he's up there.

David Spoon:

That's Peter says, I don't understand it all, but I know it's the Lord.

David Spoon:

And people take it and twist it and ruin it, and they make it, you know, go for their own things.

David Spoon:

But even Peter, the apostle who wrote two epistles and helped establish the church with Jesus, think about this.

David Spoon:

He didn't even get it all, but he was never ashamed when he was restored.

David Spoon:

He was ashamed for a little bit prior, but then he got restored and kind of hung tight.

David Spoon:

Right?

David Spoon:

Okay, well, then he also got rebuked for kind of pulling away from the gentiles, but that's a separate issue.

David Spoon:

Okay, so what I'm trying to explain to you is simply this.

David Spoon:

Never be ashamed of what Jesus had to say.

David Spoon:

You don't want to have to be restored.

David Spoon:

Do you have Luke 926?

David Spoon:

If you're ashamed of me and my words, I'll be ashamed of you when I come in glory with the father.

David Spoon:

And then a, always be ready.

Jammin Jacob:

To serve.

David Spoon:

To serve.

David Spoon:

Just ready, right.

David Spoon:

If the Lord was coming back in the next 24 hours, what would you do to be more ready, not just for him, but to be used by him?

David Spoon:

Well, here's a brilliant idea.

David Spoon:

Do that now and every day, whatever that is you would do, do that.

David Spoon:

D draw closer to the Lord daily and never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

David Spoon:

A.

David Spoon:

Always be ready to serve.

David Spoon:

Our trivia question, pretty straightforward, easy.

David Spoon:

What man in the Bible was called the son of encouragement?

David Spoon:

Acts, chapter four, verse 36.

David Spoon:

If you think you know the answer.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Dedede to open up doctor David devotional diamonds of the day.

David Spoon:

Exodus chapter 17, verse 14 says this.

David Spoon:

Then the Lord said to Moses, write an account of this victory so that it will be remembered.

David Spoon:

Tell Joshua that I will completely destroy the amalekites.

David Spoon:

What this is coming on the.

David Spoon:

And it's ironic because our third teach today is gonna be the beginning part of the story.

David Spoon:

Didn't even realize that.

David Spoon:

That's just for me.

David Spoon:

And from the Lord.

David Spoon:

Thank you, Jesus.

David Spoon:

But here's what this.

David Spoon:

Here's what it says, right?

David Spoon:

The Lord said that.

David Spoon:

Who said this?

David Spoon:

The Lord said this.

David Spoon:

Who said it?

David Spoon:

The Lord.

David Spoon:

You think we should listen?

David Spoon:

I think so.

David Spoon:

Write an account.

David Spoon:

Write an account, you mean.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

Well, I gotta be like this major writer kind of person.

David Spoon:

No, but there are things the Lord does in your life that you can spend 60 seconds on jotting down in a bullet point.

David Spoon:

God answered this prayer about this finances.

David Spoon:

God answered my prayer for health.

David Spoon:

God answered the prayer for our church.

David Spoon:

God answered the prayer for one of the people on the radio fellowship.

David Spoon:

God gave me victory over this situation.

David Spoon:

God delivered me from this incident.

David Spoon:

I was spared on the road when it could have been really bad.

David Spoon:

God saved me.

David Spoon:

n the date, he would just go,:

David Spoon:

In 60 seconds, you can be writing an account.

David Spoon:

And he says, write an account of this victory.

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Well, first of all, of the victory, because when you're doing this in the Lord, you prevail.

David Spoon:

And if you look at scripture, there are so many accounts of God delivering his people.

David Spoon:

That's a part of what scripture is.

David Spoon:

No, what you're writing down is not going to be like holy writ, but it'll be important to you.

David Spoon:

And the Lord tells you why so that it will be remembered.

David Spoon:

Why?

David Spoon:

Because we forget.

David Spoon:

Don't.

David Spoon:

Don't even.

David Spoon:

I've been a christian long enough to do this with anybody, anywhere, in any room, ever.

David Spoon:

We forget.

David Spoon:

We often do.

David Spoon:

What have you done for me lately?

David Spoon:

We don't say it that way, but once God delivers us, we get into the next situation and we push what happened behind us and then we go, I know, but what about this?

David Spoon:

I know, but what about this?

David Spoon:

That is in fact saying to God, what have you done for me lately?

David Spoon:

Do you see what I'm saying?

David Spoon:

God will answer the prayer, yay, victory.

David Spoon:

And then you have this next thing come up and you're like, oh, how are you going to get me out of this mess?

David Spoon:

See, that's literally forgetting what just happened.

David Spoon:

So I encourage everybody to write a Jesus journal.

David Spoon:

That's right.

David Spoon:

Call it whatever you want.

David Spoon:

I call it mine little by little.

David Spoon:

And I've been doing it for five years.

David Spoon:

I should have been doing it for 45 years.

David Spoon:

I've been doing it for the last five years.

David Spoon:

I have over 100 pages.

David Spoon:

I'm not kidding.

David Spoon:

It's amazing.

David Spoon:

Try it.

David Spoon:

Then the Lord said to Moses, write an account of this victory so it will be remembered.

David Spoon:

How cool is that?

David Spoon:

It's pretty cool.

David Spoon:

I mean, come on.

David Spoon:

It's just like, wow.

David Spoon:

And again, no, it's not holy rip, but it's what the Lord's doing in your life.

David Spoon:

And then sometimes if you're feeling bluesy, you can go, hey, look at all this.

David Spoon:

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.

David Spoon:

There's a lot that the Lord does for us every day, isn't there?

David Spoon:

Okay, we do have so many.

David Spoon:

Are they ready to answer a trivia question?

David Spoon:

Then?

David Spoon:

Let's send them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock, knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

John:

David.

John:

Hi.

John:

This John.

David Spoon:

Hi, John.

David Spoon:

How are you, brother?

John:

Oh, I'm okay.

John:

How are you doing, brother?

David Spoon:

I'm doing pretty good.

David Spoon:

I'm just.

David Spoon:

I was just kind of blown away by our 1st 30 minutes because I didn't expect it to go kind of like synced by the Lord.

David Spoon:

I was like, wow, okay, great.

David Spoon:

Sometimes I'm just doing this show and I'm just along for the ride.

David Spoon:

That's kind of how I feel sometimes.

John:

Carries you through?

David Spoon:

Yeah, he carries me literally.

David Spoon:

It's like the Holy Spirit just carrying those authors.

David Spoon:

Like the Holy Spirit just carrying me through.

David Spoon:

Now here you go.

David Spoon:

I'm going to help you out, Dave.

David Spoon:

Like, thank you, Lord.

John:

Right.

David Spoon:

Let me set it up for you, and then we can answer a trivia question.

David Spoon:

Then you can tell us how you're doing from that point and see if there's anything we can pray for you.

David Spoon:

But let's do the trivia question first.

David Spoon:

Which man in the Bible is called the son of encouragement?

John:

Barnabas.

David Spoon:

That is correct.

David Spoon:

Amanda, sir, one of my favorite people, and it's impossible for people to understand.

David Spoon:

So Barnabas and Apollos were just these two extraordinary guys.

David Spoon:

And Barnabas was like the encouragement guy.

David Spoon:

I mean, he's the guy that brought Paul in.

David Spoon:

Even when Paul.

David Spoon:

Everybody's going, don't touch that guy.

David Spoon:

He's toxic.

David Spoon:

Don't touch that guy.

David Spoon:

And Barnabas is the one that brought him in and made him okay.

David Spoon:

And then afterwards, when Mark kind of messed up, who was Barnabas relative?

David Spoon:

His cousin.

David Spoon:

Ultimately, Barnabas ministry prevailed, because at the end of Paul's ministry, Paul said, bring Mark with me.

David Spoon:

He's profitable.

David Spoon:

So what a guy, man.

David Spoon:

He's just bringing people in.

David Spoon:

Love it.

David Spoon:

Love that guy.

John:

You kind of remind me of him.

David Spoon:

Oh, that's very sweet.

David Spoon:

That's very sweet.

David Spoon:

I wish I had the money to send you on that one.

David Spoon:

That's sweet of you to say, let me tell you guys.

John:

Well, it's true.

John:

We get the wrong really answer, you still okay with it?

David Spoon:

That's classic.

John:

That's all right, you know?

David Spoon:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

What about a guy, though?

David Spoon:

I mean, I just like to get it.

David Spoon:

Hey, this dude, this dude's the guy of encouragement, okay.

David Spoon:

Hang around that guy.

David Spoon:

I want to be around him.

John:

Listen, my wife's calling in on the other caller id.

John:

I better let you go.

John:

But real quickly on that storm, the hurricane Milton headed toward Tampa.

John:

It took us south or level turn instead of heading right into Tampa where our son and family lives, and just kind of bypassed them so they didn't lose as much as some of the people over there.

John:

So that was answer to prayer.

John:

Quick one.

David Spoon:

So they're doing better?

David Spoon:

Are they doing okay?

John:

Yeah, yeah, they're fine.

John:

They just got a heavy rain.

John:

They said, wow.

John:

I mean, there, he had a roof put in a year or two ago, and it was like a, what could withstand 110 miles an hour winds, one of those hurricane roofs, and it stayed on.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

Praise the lord.

John:

Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Stadium.

John:

You know, the baseball stadium was torn off.

David Spoon:

Yeah, I saw that.

John:

Or something like that.

David Spoon:

Yeah, I saw that.

John:

They did okay.

David Spoon:

Yeah, I'm glad they did okay.

David Spoon:

Praise the Lord for that and his kindness and protection.

David Spoon:

Phenomenal.

David Spoon:

I did see that the stadium, I did see it was all ripped up except for two little sections like, wow.

John:

Yeah.

John:

And man had actually taken me to that stadium for a ballgame years ago.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

Wow.

John:

Nice and air conditioned.

John:

Now it's not going to be so much, but anyway, hopefully they'll get it repaired.

David Spoon:

Yeah, that's, that's kind of surreal, though, when you see it and you go, I've been there.

David Spoon:

I mean, that's.

David Spoon:

It's kind of a bizarre moment because you're like, I've sat there, I've been there, and, wow, look at that thing now.

David Spoon:

It's like, incredible.

John:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

You know, that's wild.

David Spoon:

Wild.

David Spoon:

Wild, wild.

David Spoon:

Well, John, we love you, brother, and we pray for you often.

David Spoon:

And if there's anything you need, in particular, you don't hesitate, but we'll keep praying for you and your family to be safe and everybody to be doing better and stronger and, and keep blessed and keep consistent in the Lord.

John:

Yeah.

John:

Thanks, David.

David Spoon:

You got.

John:

All right, talk to you later.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

God bless you.

David Spoon:

Bye bye.

David Spoon:

Wow.

David Spoon:

That's it.

David Spoon:

He's mentioning that.

David Spoon:

It's just, it just made me think of something that I completely forgot about.

David Spoon:

I'll just tell you this.

David Spoon:

And, I mean, you know, the towers, when they went down and so on and so forth in New York, and I had been in the towers, like at the top.

David Spoon:

At.

David Spoon:

It's called.

David Spoon:

I think it's called top central.

David Spoon:

No, I can't think of the name of it.

David Spoon:

But they had a restaurant up there and I had eaten there, like two years before the towers went down.

David Spoon:

It's just like, so bizarre to think of it in those terms.

David Spoon:

Anyway.

David Spoon:

Well, praise the Lord that his family is safe.

David Spoon:

Praise the Lord that the Lord does great things.

David Spoon:

Those are the kind of things to write down.

David Spoon:

Get it?

David Spoon:

All right, we'll take a break and then come back.

David Spoon:

You're listening to the David Spoon experience right here on Kam, 770, the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

Shortbreak.

David Spoon:

We'll be back.

Will Rogers:

Who is David Spoon?

Will Rogers:

I have no idea.

Will Rogers:

People have asked me about the David Spoon experience.

Will Rogers:

They wanted to know what I thought of him.

Will Rogers:

Like any person searching for answers, I have wondered about him.

Will Rogers:

He was born and raised jewish and after intense drug use, became a Christian.

Will Rogers:

He's married to his best friend Noelle, has three children, six grandchildren, and a dog named Bert.

Will Rogers:

He has three separate ordinations from three different denominations and is a summa cum laude for his BA degree in ministry and leadership, as well as a master's degree of theological studies and has his doctorate of strategic christian ministry.

Will Rogers:

He has a weird sense of humor and talks a lot.

Will Rogers:

If people are seeking wisdom and insight from the great teachers around the world, would they go to David?

Will Rogers:

No, I don't think so.

Will Rogers:

And those big ears really don't help him.

Will Rogers:

But would they enjoy his perspective on life, culture, politics, food, sports, local and national news?

Will Rogers:

I don't know.

Will Rogers:

I guess people will have to listen to find out.

Doctor Dave:

What is the David spoon experience?

David Spoon:

You get into the word of God and something's going to happen that will blow your mind.

David Spoon:

Ready?

David Spoon:

The law of the Lord is perfect.

David Spoon:

Psalm 119 seven says, able to restore the, the soul.

David Spoon:

And I've been in, I've been doing this for a long time, and in my 42 and a half years of devotions and in my diligent devotion time, I kind of separate that between the two.

David Spoon:

I cannot tell you.

David Spoon:

It must be thousands of times where my attitude has been.

David Spoon:

And then I went into the word of God and I came out different.

David Spoon:

It wasn't anything that I did as much as God speaking into me what he knows about his creation.

David Spoon:

And so I'm asking you, I'm pleading with you, even if you've been a Christian for 50 years, for 60 years, nay, for 70 years, like the apostle John was on the island of Patmos, be in the word of God.

David Spoon:

It is alive and it will give life and impart life to you through God's spirit.

David Spoon:

People come and they read the word of God and they say, well, I get nothing out of it.

David Spoon:

Well, they don't mix it with faith and the word of God.

David Spoon:

The promises of God not mixed with faith are useless because you have to be engaged with God and know he's going to speak.

David Spoon:

People are like, well, that's a, that's a lot of requirement for me to get in there and read the word of God.

David Spoon:

You want me actually to believe that God's going to speak to me?

David Spoon:

Yes, because he will.

David Spoon:

And if you don't, you won't hear him.

David Spoon:

So when you open up that book, take 30 seconds more than you ever have before and say, just in this moment, just at this time, tune me in, Lord, help me to hear what you have to say.

David Spoon:

Speak to me and let your word breathe life in and to me.

David Spoon:

Welcome back to the David spoon experience.

David Spoon:

Thank you for joining us here at KAAM, 770 the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

That's Kamen 770 the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

We're yet another fill supports what we've been teaching on the show.

David Spoon:

I don't know what's going on.

David Spoon:

I'm just sitting behind a desk.

David Spoon:

I'm just moving papers around.

David Spoon:

I'm not doing anything, really.

David Spoon:

Just let the Lord do whatever he's going to do.

David Spoon:

All right, folks, here you go.

David Spoon:

Here's your next.

David Spoon:

This is just one of those great, great things that happened.

David Spoon:

Here's your next trivia question.

David Spoon:

Okay, now I want to make this a little, a little, not easier, but I want you to be able to get this.

David Spoon:

So this next verse is in Philippians.

David Spoon:

You have to tell me which chapter.

David Spoon:

In which chapter in the book of Philippians written by Paul, does he say, by the Holy Spirit, your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus?

David Spoon:

Basically, that's the NIv in case you're like, well, I have this version.

David Spoon:

Okay, well, you can still probably figure it out.

David Spoon:

And in what chapter does Paul write?

David Spoon:

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.

David Spoon:

It's either chapter one, chapter two, chapter three, or chapter four.

David Spoon:

If you think you know.

David Spoon:

-:

David Spoon:

Now, I know it's a little tougher, but see, one of the things that's important is for us to know where things are in the Bible, not to just go, that's in the Bible somewhere.

David Spoon:

In fact, I've had conversations where somebody has actually said to me, that's in the Bible.

David Spoon:

And because I know it decent, not greater than.

David Spoon:

I mean, there's many people that know it a thousand times better than me, but I know it decently.

David Spoon:

And so somebody said, well, that's in the Bible.

David Spoon:

I just go, where's the address?

David Spoon:

That's my line.

David Spoon:

Where's the address?

David Spoon:

And they're like, I don't know.

David Spoon:

It's like, that's.

David Spoon:

See?

David Spoon:

There's no authority.

David Spoon:

There's nothing there.

David Spoon:

And then I tell them, no, that's not in the Bible.

David Spoon:

And it's just like, you know, well, cleanliness is next to godliness.

David Spoon:

It says so in the Bible.

David Spoon:

No, it doesn't.

David Spoon:

Thank you.

David Spoon:

So that's my point, is just like, you gotta know.

David Spoon:

Get it?

David Spoon:

All right, all right.

David Spoon:

So the question is, in what chapter?

David Spoon:

Which chapter does Paul out of?

David Spoon:

Philippians.

David Spoon:

Philippians.

David Spoon:

There's chapter one, chapter two, chapter three, chapter four.

David Spoon:

Which chapter does he say?

David Spoon:

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, which, by the way, some of us could really use.

David Spoon:

Really?

David Spoon:

Listen to that.

David Spoon:

All right, somebody is ready to answer a trivia question.

David Spoon:

Let's send them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock, knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

Jay:

Hey, David, it's Jay.

Jay:

How are you?

David Spoon:

I'm doing pretty good, Jay.

David Spoon:

How are you doing?

Jay:

Oh, I'm financially not as good, but physically, I'm feeling a little better today, for whatever reason, but I'll take it.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Take it.

Jay:

Praise it to the Lord.

David Spoon:

Right?

David Spoon:

Yeah, right, though.

David Spoon:

But it's.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

Getting a little better in this area.

David Spoon:

Gotta appreciate that.

David Spoon:

Right?

David Spoon:

Still working on the financial, which we'll pray over you for, which we believe for.

David Spoon:

So.

David Spoon:

I know, I know.

David Spoon:

It's, like, frustrating.

Jay:

Funny that this is the trivia question today, because both of my daughters.

Jay:

I made them when they were about eight and nine years old, memorized Philippians two, five through ten, where Paul does tell about the attitude of Christ and that our attitude is to be the same as his.

David Spoon:

That is correct.

David Spoon:

So you got it.

David Spoon:

Philippians chapter two.

David Spoon:

And you taught him verse five.

David Spoon:

Is that opening verse right there.

David Spoon:

And it's amazing, though, because it's like we're supposed to like it's attitude.

David Spoon:

So there's this whole teaching on the be attitudes, and that's a great teaching by one of these preachers that says, these are the attitudes that we should be.

David Spoon:

These should be our attitudes.

David Spoon:

That's why they're attitudes.

David Spoon:

Exactly.

David Spoon:

And it's like, what is like, you gotta have the attitude Jesus has.

David Spoon:

It's like, what?

Jay:

Well, and I've got to say, the.

Jay:

The part that touches me the most about that verse or those verses is the part where he says, and make my joy complete.

David Spoon:

Yes.

Jay:

I mean, what.

Jay:

What do I need to have the most complete joy that I possibly, we could have?

Jay:

And that is to make your attitude, that is Christ Jesus.

David Spoon:

That's excellent, excellent, excellent sharing.

David Spoon:

That's really, really a good job, and people should really take heed to.

David Spoon:

In fact, you should really listen to what Jay just said about that.

David Spoon:

If you're looking for that completeness of that joy, you want to get all the way over, not just dipping your toe in, but getting all the way in the pool, so to speak, is have the same attitude that Jesus had that's going to get you in the water all the way.

Jay:

And I'll tell you, you and I, you know, about me, to validate the fact that I've had some decent trials in my life, but to go through trials in life and then still have the attitude of Christ not only brings blessings in your life, but it also shows others that if you can hold that attitude and you can be that joyous, then so can they.

Jay:

And it gives them hope, and it gives them the reason to look up and reason to do what you were saying while ago, getting their Bible purposefully, you know, not just, well, I'm going to read a chapter today, so, because I have to, you know, but to actually get in there and look for the Holy Spirit and find him and find Christ and find the Lord that created everything.

David Spoon:

Amen.

David Spoon:

Amen.

David Spoon:

That's great, Jay.

David Spoon:

I mean, you do great, man.

David Spoon:

You do have a great ministry.

David Spoon:

You just don't know it, but you have a great ministry.

Jay:

Well, I love you very much.

Jay:

And I just thought it was.

Jay:

I thought it was my turn to answer a trivia question.

Jay:

Since you picked that one out.

Jay:

It was one of the ones.

Jay:

It was like, okay, girls, who's ready to do Philippians two?

Jay:

And, you know, Russell, Russell, Russell.

Jay:

How to find them under their bed?

Jay:

You know, it's like, come on, if you can say it, we'll go get ice cream.

Jay:

You know, that's exactly the wrong way to motivate people.

David Spoon:

Oh, we've been doing that for years.

David Spoon:

Right?

David Spoon:

You like McDonald's?

David Spoon:

Clean your.

David Spoon:

You like McDonald's, clean your room.

David Spoon:

Anyway, there you go.

David Spoon:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

Well, let me pray over you on the financial.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Thank you, sir.

David Spoon:

Let's do it.

David Spoon:

Father, we come before you right now, and I thank you for my brother.

David Spoon:

And, Lord, the first thing I pray for my brother is that he would know deep in his spirit, deep in his heart, he's loved.

David Spoon:

And it's.

David Spoon:

Lord, it's so hard to absorb that because we're at a distance and we do the show and we're the here and there.

David Spoon:

But, Lord, it's the same thing that you had written in your word.

David Spoon:

Paul said, I'm there with you in spirit.

David Spoon:

And so we ask you to let Jane know that.

David Spoon:

And that, Lord, we ask you for his finances, for his situation.

David Spoon:

It's not bigger than you.

David Spoon:

And we're asking you to manifest your generosity, your graciousness, and that you would pull him up out of the mire and put his feet upon a rock, a new song in his mouth, and bless him, and he will testify to the graciousness that has come his way.

David Spoon:

Give him that opportunity, open up the windows of heaven, bless him, and let it change the way his life has been, and let him be able to declare it is because of the Lord.

David Spoon:

We ask that blessing upon him and that ministry upon him, and we pray that in Jesus name, amen and amen.

Jay:

Thank you so much, dear brother.

Jay:

And know that I keep praying for you and your ministry and its growth, and more than its growth, that it touch, literally touch more and more people every day.

David Spoon:

Amen.

Jay:

No matter how that happens.

David Spoon:

Amen.

David Spoon:

Excellent.

David Spoon:

That's excellent.

David Spoon:

I want you to keep praying that that's a perfect thing because we want to do that.

Jay:

Love you, Dave.

David Spoon:

All right, God bless you, brother.

Jay:

Love a great weekend.

David Spoon:

You, too.

David Spoon:

Bye bye bye.

David Spoon:

All right, we will take our break here.

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

I'll let you know.

David Spoon:

I mean, this is the best I can tell you because I'm going to teach you something that I hope I.

David Spoon:

There's no way I can teach this.

David Spoon:

I can't teach the worth, I can't teach the value.

David Spoon:

But I'm going to do my best to share with you my heart in this process.

David Spoon:

As american people, as people who live in America, we have been granted the right to pursue happiness.

David Spoon:

And I want to make sure you understand what this means.

David Spoon:

We have a preamble to United States Declaration of independence.

David Spoon:

And the preamble to the declaration says, we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, and that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

David Spoon:

Now, I do want to point out, it does not say life, liberty and the provisions of or for happiness.

David Spoon:

In other words, the rights that we have.

David Spoon:

And the preamble is that we get to pursue happiness, not that it's provided for us by the government.

David Spoon:

So that's kind of an important point for people to recognize.

David Spoon:

It would be nice if they quit trying to quote a, quit trying to quote our founding fathers and then say they're entitled to something because of that provision.

David Spoon:

Because it never says that if Jesus was, oh, welcome back to the David spoon experience.

David Spoon:

Thank you for joining us here at KAM 770 the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

There's k double amen 770 the truth station here in Texas.

David Spoon:

We're yet another show goes wherever it wants to go.

David Spoon:

All right, here you go.

David Spoon:

This is a more challenging trivia question, but I think you guys will be able to get it.

David Spoon:

I'm confident.

David Spoon:

Anyway.

David Spoon:

Here we go.

David Spoon:

Ready?

David Spoon:

Proverbs 22 suggests what is more desirable than great riches?

David Spoon:

Proverbs 22 says, something is more desirable than great riches.

David Spoon:

So if you give, you give it unto the Lord.

David Spoon:

It's completely between you and the Lord.

David Spoon:

We will do our best as stewards, but it is fully in the hands of the Lord and you, and he promises to make that blessing back to you.

David Spoon:

That's really for those that have never really tried to give, give it a shot.

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

I'm not going in the water.

Jammin Jacob:

It's getting pretty close where it'll be too cold to swim.

Jammin Jacob:

Yeah, we're getting to winter.

David Spoon:

The order is close enough, especially after hearing that.

David Spoon:

All right, we do have somebody on the line.

David Spoon:

Let's go ahead and send them on through.

David Spoon:

Knock, knock.

David Spoon:

This is David.

David Spoon:

Who am I talking to?

Will:

Hey, doctor David, it's Will Rogers.

David Spoon:

Hello, Will Rogers.

David Spoon:

How are you, brother?

Will:

I'm doing so wonderful.

Will:

I can't stand it.

Will:

And I hope you're better.

David Spoon:

I'm doing great.

David Spoon:

And hearing your voice is such a blessing.

David Spoon:

I'm not kidding.

David Spoon:

It's just great to hear your voice on the radio.

David Spoon:

What a blessing to hear from you.

David Spoon:

Love it.

David Spoon:

Love it.

David Spoon:

All right, let me set you up.

David Spoon:

And then when we're done, you tell me what's happening, how things that are going on.

David Spoon:

Ready?

Will:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

Proverbs 22 suggests it's more desirable than great riches.

David Spoon:

What is that thing that's more desirable?

Will:

Well, I think since the whole book is about wisdom, that's what it is.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

And that's an excellent guess.

David Spoon:

But let me ask you this.

David Spoon:

Let me ask you this.

David Spoon:

What else that has to do with how people think of you, like, kind of like your rep.

David Spoon:

What is it that there's more desirable than great riches?

Will:

Character.

David Spoon:

Yes.

David Spoon:

And that leaves people to believe that you have a good reputation.

David Spoon:

That is right, sir.

David Spoon:

A good name.

David Spoon:

A good reputation.

David Spoon:

That's right.

David Spoon:

So it's a good, primarily, it's a good name and it's a good reputation.

David Spoon:

And what the Lord's saying is, you know, having that is just better.

David Spoon:

Having a good bank of people who think you got the right heart.

David Spoon:

That's better than having a good bank that has zeros.

David Spoon:

That's what he's saying.

David Spoon:

And it's so true.

David Spoon:

It's like you're a perfect example of that in that sense, that you have an excellent reputation, you're an excellent influence, and it's like that's worth more than money.

David Spoon:

See that?

David Spoon:

That's what it's all about.

David Spoon:

How about that?

David Spoon:

How are you doing?

David Spoon:

How are things going?

David Spoon:

Everything we can pray for you on.

David Spoon:

I know we got you covered, but if there's anything, you let us know.

David Spoon:

We're here for you.

Will:

Basically, no change, just continuing dealing with the aftermath of the.

David Spoon:

Do you need wisdom in it or just patience?

Will:

More patience, probably.

David Spoon:

All right, let me pray over you a little.

Will:

A little bit controlling my eating better for health purposes.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

I got you on that one.

David Spoon:

I got you on that.

David Spoon:

Let me.

David Spoon:

Let me pray for you.

David Spoon:

Okay?

Will:

Yes, sir.

David Spoon:

All right, father, we come before you right now, and I lift up will to you.

David Spoon:

And I, Lord, I ask you to bless him.

David Spoon:

I do.

David Spoon:

I ask you just to bless him.

David Spoon:

Everybody in this audience just.

David Spoon:

We really appreciate him.

David Spoon:

And, lord, first and foremost, he knows he needs a little patience.

David Spoon:

And, Lord, I've been in that situation, and, Lord, I had no patience, and you know that.

David Spoon:

And so I'm praying that you would help him do better than I did and enable him and give him the wisdom that goes along with that patience.

David Spoon:

And also, Lord, he needs some help in the discipline arena.

David Spoon:

He really needs help to do a better job in some elements.

David Spoon:

Motivate him.

David Spoon:

Your word in Colossians 129 talks about you giving us the energy for these things.

David Spoon:

Give him the energy that comes from you to accomplish the task.

David Spoon:

He needs to.

David Spoon:

To take better care of himself, but also them.

David Spoon:

The power of your spirit to operate in a greater sense of patience, peace, persistence and wisdom.

David Spoon:

We ask your blessing on him for this weekend and for his life, and we thank you for him.

David Spoon:

And we pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior.

David Spoon:

Amen.

David Spoon:

And amen.

Will:

Amen.

David Spoon:

Amen, my brother.

David Spoon:

That's great to hear.

Will:

You have a blessed day, sir.

David Spoon:

All right, you too, my brother.

David Spoon:

God bless you.

David Spoon:

Bye bye bye.

David Spoon:

Great to hear from Will.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

There's so much I want to do and so much I don't have time to do.

David Spoon:

So let's do this.

David Spoon:

You know, I had these four teachings.

David Spoon:

I'm only going to get to like one more, so in lieu of that, I would like to.

David Spoon:

We haven't done a joke or history.

David Spoon:

What are you thinking?

David Spoon:

Either way?

Jammin Jacob:

Let's do history.

David Spoon:

All right, we're going to do history.

David Spoon:

All right, let's do history.

David Spoon:

And then we're going to get into the.

David Spoon:

The teaching part.

David Spoon:

This.

David Spoon:

Get one of two teachings in, but it'll be a good one.

David Spoon:

Let's do history.

David Spoon:

All right.

David Spoon:

For those that don't know.

David Spoon:

Tonight at sundown is the beginning of Yom Kippur.

David Spoon:

It goes for a little while.

David Spoon:

Here's something to know.

David Spoon:

If you have any jewish friends, you don't say, oh, Mary, yom Kippur.

David Spoon:

Okay?

David Spoon:

Because this is the day of atonement.

David Spoon:

And so what you pray for is a peaceful.

David Spoon:

Or you give them a gesture saying, peaceful Yom Kippur.

David Spoon:

Or something.

David Spoon:

That's a shalom yom Kippur.

David Spoon:

Like a peaceful, a gracious Yom Kippur.

David Spoon:

This is the day of atonement that Israel as a nation, from the Old Testament point of view, the day where the priest goes into the very presence of the most high God dealing with the sins of the people.

David Spoon:

Of course, we have a great high priest who has done that for us.

David Spoon:

Hebrews chapter ten, verses 19 through 24.

David Spoon:

But the idea is to understand that it's a most reflective time.

David Spoon:

And so at least, and I will say this, because some nations don't do this, at least as a group and as a nation in large, they acknowledge their sin, which is the right step in the right direction.

David Spoon:

So keep aware of that.

David Spoon:

Starts at sundown today.

David Spoon:

Also, today is national sausage Pizza day.

David Spoon:

I don't know how you can go around with it.

David Spoon:

I don't think it's actually possible to go wrong with it.

David Spoon:

I don't think.

David Spoon:

I see no possibility of going wrong with that.

David Spoon:

Unless you get a frozen pizza and you don't cook it, then that would be wrong.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

That's about.

David Spoon:

That's all I can come up with.

David Spoon:

What do you think?

David Spoon:

Is that, like, right?

Jammin Jacob:

Yeah, yeah, that sounds about right.

Jammin Jacob:

It.

David Spoon:

Okay.

Jammin Jacob:

Sausage on a pizza, like you said, as long if it's frozen, then no, but anything else?

Jammin Jacob:

If it's cooked, I'm eating it.

David Spoon:

If it's cooked, it's great if you're eating it.

David Spoon:

Frozen therapy.

David Spoon:

Last couple things to say on this today.

David Spoon:

In:

David Spoon:

So 105 years ago today.

David Spoon:

Listen to this.

David Spoon:

The first airline in flight meal.

David Spoon:

How about that?

David Spoon:

ley Page transport flights in:

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

It's just, here's a most people that listen to our show, almost everybody listen to our show.

David Spoon:

You are not as old as airline food.

David Spoon:

Wow.

Jammin Jacob:

I wonder what the people's reaction was to when that first happened.

Jammin Jacob:

They were thinking, wow, fancy.

Jammin Jacob:

I'm eating on a plane.

David Spoon:

Yeah.

David Spoon:

Now you're like, I'll sneak on.

David Spoon:

I'll sneak on a burger.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

1983.

David Spoon:

Listen to this.

David Spoon:

The last hand cranked telephone call.

David Spoon:

The last hand crank telephone.

David Spoon:

Magneto telephone calls.

David Spoon:

pound, Maine, on this day in:

David Spoon:

I don't know how they know that, but it just seems weird to me.

David Spoon:

I don't know.

Jammin Jacob:

Yeah.

Jammin Jacob:

How would they know that?

David Spoon:

I don't know.

David Spoon:

There's some things you see?

David Spoon:

And you go, okay.

David Spoon:

Anyway.

David Spoon:

All right, see, this is me crumpling up the history.

David Spoon:

See, there you go.

David Spoon:

There you go.

David Spoon:

Hey, we've got the sausage thing out of it.

David Spoon:

All right, we're just going to do this one.

David Spoon:

I just want to teach this one.

David Spoon:

Just bear with me.

David Spoon:

And it's not perfect, and none of it's perfect.

David Spoon:

And we do the best we can before the Lord.

David Spoon:

Do your best.

David Spoon:

Pray that it's blessed.

David Spoon:

Let Jesus take care of the rest.

David Spoon:

Stop trying to control it afterwards, especially people like me.

David Spoon:

Knock it off.

David Spoon:

Here's the title of this one.

David Spoon:

It's okay to ask.

David Spoon:

Okay, we're going to end with this one.

David Spoon:

So I got to say this literally to Rosalind.

David Spoon:

Go, I can't do it.

David Spoon:

I don't have time to do that teaching.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Genesis 24, ten through twelve.

David Spoon:

Okay, got about ten minutes.

David Spoon:

Let's get to this.

David Spoon:

The servant who was in charge of Abraham's property took ten of his master's camels and went to the city where Nahor had lived in northern Mesopotamia.

David Spoon:

When he arrived, he made the camels kneel down at the well outside the city.

David Spoon:

It was late afternoon, the time when women came out to get water.

David Spoon:

He prayed, lord God of my master, Abraham, give me success and keep your promise to my master.

David Spoon:

So the background is, most people know that Abraham had given his servant.

David Spoon:

The servant was likely Eliezer.

David Spoon:

Eliezer was likely him.

David Spoon:

We get that from Genesis 15 two.

David Spoon:

Because he was the chief servant, he was tasked regardless to find a wife for Isaac amongst Abraham's relatives.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Not an easy task.

David Spoon:

I think we should recognize.

David Spoon:

Hey, that's kind of a toughie right there.

David Spoon:

And so we need to understand that he's in this situation and he's like, okay, I'm gonna.

David Spoon:

I know.

David Spoon:

And he already knows.

David Spoon:

God has been faithful to Abraham, right?

David Spoon:

And how does he know that God has been faithful to Abraham?

David Spoon:

Isaac was there.

David Spoon:

Isaac was born.

David Spoon:

He was finding a wife for Isaac.

David Spoon:

Hey, Sarah wasn't supposed to have children, but God did a miracle for Abraham.

David Spoon:

That miracle that Abraham had engaged with had fallout.

David Spoon:

And I love to talk about this because it's the ripple effect.

David Spoon:

It's throw a rock in the water, what happens?

David Spoon:

It hits the water, but what happens?

David Spoon:

There's ripples that go in all different directions.

David Spoon:

Well, this miracle that took place for Abraham and for Sarah had a ripple effect.

David Spoon:

And this guy who's the servant of Abraham, was a witness to that miracle.

David Spoon:

He didn't participate in the miracle, but he was connected to it because he was connected to Abraham.

David Spoon:

When God does something phenomenal in your life, it has an impact on people who are connected to you, but not if you keep it a secret.

David Spoon:

Right.

David Spoon:

Okay, that makes sense.

David Spoon:

So his task given by Abraham was to find a wife for Isaac.

David Spoon:

So he goes to where he was supposed to go, where Abraham's clan was.

David Spoon:

He goes to where Nahor had lived in northern Mesopotamia.

David Spoon:

He arrives, has the camels kind of chill.

David Spoon:

It's late in the afternoon.

David Spoon:

Women are bringing water out, and he prays, lord, give me success.

David Spoon:

So I want to say something about this, because this can be abused and abused by going too far and abused by going too short.

David Spoon:

So too long and too short.

David Spoon:

Some people think you shouldn't ask God for success.

David Spoon:

That's dumb.

David Spoon:

Let me give you the theological response to that.

David Spoon:

That's dumb.

David Spoon:

It's just dumb.

David Spoon:

It's like, of course you can ask God.

David Spoon:

Of course it's okay to ask.

David Spoon:

But that doesn't mean every time you ask, God will always give you success.

David Spoon:

There will be times where he will and times where he won't.

David Spoon:

There's times where he wants to do it his way and times where the way that the person wants to do it works in the plan of God.

David Spoon:

Great.

David Spoon:

But it's not a sin to ask, and that's really the core of what I'm trying to teach.

David Spoon:

So he said he prayed, Lord, God of my master, Abraham, notice that he.

David Spoon:

He's going to God through the Abraham connection, which I think is fascinating.

David Spoon:

Give me success today, and if you give me success, you'll be keeping your promise to my master, to his mission.

David Spoon:

He was looking to succeed.

David Spoon:

Have you ever done something?

David Spoon:

You're doing an endeavor, you're doing anything work related, family related, whatever.

David Spoon:

It's not wrong to say, lord, give me success.

David Spoon:

This is not, like a bad thing, and I want to get away from that.

David Spoon:

People think, well, that's, you know, that's.

David Spoon:

Name it and claim it.

David Spoon:

No, it's not.

David Spoon:

It's asking God for success.

David Spoon:

But you also do the exact same thing.

David Spoon:

Jesus, did you surrender it?

David Spoon:

You say, lord, give me success.

David Spoon:

He didn't say, I demand success.

David Spoon:

Let's name it and claim it.

David Spoon:

That doesn't work.

David Spoon:

You say to the Lord, grant me success.

David Spoon:

But you recognize it has to be God that gives it to you.

David Spoon:

Now I want to make sure you understand why I'm not going to go into the story, the rest of that story.

David Spoon:

What I want you to understand is it's okay to ask.

David Spoon:

Not all prayer is proper.

David Spoon:

What?

David Spoon:

You can't say that.

David Spoon:

This is a christian radio station.

David Spoon:

Not all prayer is proper.

David Spoon:

Here's what James four one three says.

David Spoon:

What causes conflicts and quarrels among you?

David Spoon:

Do they not come from the passions that war within you?

David Spoon:

You crave what you do not have, you kill, you covet and you are unable to attain it.

David Spoon:

You quarrel and fight.

David Spoon:

You do not have because you do not ask.

David Spoon:

And when you do ask, you do not receive because you ask with the wrong motives that you may squander it on your pleasures.

David Spoon:

Not all prayer is proper.

David Spoon:

Sometimes when people pray, and James wasn't writing to non christians, that's absurd.

David Spoon:

And any person who teaches who says that is just left the reservation, just off the reservation.

David Spoon:

He's like, look, the problem is that we engage with God and there's times where we want things and we want them, but not because they're good for us, not because they're in a way to honor the kingdom, but we want them so that it will be pleasurable for us.

David Spoon:

And so it's not that it's wrong to ask for success, but if we're asking for success simply so that we can always be the beneficiary, the one that always prospers and is always blessed and doesn't matter what happens to anybody else, then we're totally missing it.

David Spoon:

If the Lord blesses you and then you in turn can bless others, perfect.

David Spoon:

But if the Lord blesses you and you keep it for yourself, completely imperfect.

David Spoon:

So when you pray, do it with the right motives, the right attitude, not that you could squander it on your pleasures, but that you can give genuine honor to God.

David Spoon:

And people need to separate this, because when we ask for something that we're trying to consume on our pleasures, we're just being selfish.

David Spoon:

And that's not the way the kingdom is.

David Spoon:

So this servant is asking for success and even makes it clear, I want you to give me success and you keep your promise to my master.

David Spoon:

In other words, he's asking for success on the behalf of Abraham.

David Spoon:

See that?

David Spoon:

That spirit right there, that one, we want that we want that thing because that spirit is the attitude that saying, hey, I want this to be successful, but I want it to be successful for my master, this person that you are so closely connected to.

David Spoon:

And it will bless them.

David Spoon:

You see that that spirit, that it, that we want that.

David Spoon:

I want that.

David Spoon:

So it's great to ask God.

David Spoon:

It's okay to ask any time.

David Spoon:

The warning here is not to ask for self consumption alone.

David Spoon:

It's not that you can't participate.

David Spoon:

But remember, those that are first will be last and those that are last shall be first.

David Spoon:

So it's one thing to be a recipient of an answer to prayer, but it's a whole other level of Jesus to make sure you're last in line over that.

David Spoon:

Maybe our prayers should be geared towards whatever benefits us.

David Spoon:

We are well aware that we are first stewards of the kingdom of God.

David Spoon:

And maybe it's sharing it and maybe it's sharing the testimony of it.

David Spoon:

I don't know.

David Spoon:

All I'm trying to say to you is that some prayer is not proper.

David Spoon:

Especially prayer that is so focused on ourselves that we're missing being a blessing to others.

David Spoon:

I think when we pray a prayer and we're genuine and we're asking for success and it's genuinely for the benefit of others, it's a whole different spirit of prayer.

David Spoon:

That's what the Lord wants us to have.

David Spoon:

The Jesus part of us, the holy spirit part of us in prayer.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

Okay.

David Spoon:

All right, folks, you have been listening to the David Spoon experience right here on KAam, 770, the truth station here in Texas taking a 72 and one two hour break.

David Spoon:

Then we'll come back.

David Spoon:

More insanity with spoonanity talk to you.

David Spoon:

Then I will lay me down in peace and sleep for you.

Doctor Dave:
