Speaker:with the top resources you need to thrive and make your marketing mesmer.
Speaker:And now here's your host Dimple.
Speaker:Dang.
Speaker:Hello, my mes Maring Marketing Tribe.
Speaker:Today we're gonna be talking about the Elon Musk Twitter takeover and
Speaker:what's coming up next for Twitter.
Speaker:I know Twitter is a hot topic right now.
Speaker:I know that everyone's wondering what's gonna happen with Twitter.
Speaker:They're wondering if they should be using it.
Speaker:If they haven't been, and those who didn't pay much attention to it
Speaker:are now paying attention to Twitter because of the Elon must take over.
Speaker:, we're gonna be talking about what's happening with Twitter,
Speaker:what Elon Musk is gonna do next.
Speaker:What are some of the features that may be coming out, or some of
Speaker:the changes that you need to know about when it comes to Twitter.
Speaker:So this past Thursday, Twitter was officially sold to Elon Musk for the.
Speaker:price tag of $44 billion.
Speaker:Yes, you heard that right?
Speaker:$44 billion.
Speaker:So yes, that is a lot of money.
Speaker:And as you can see, Mr.
Speaker:Elon is going to be thinking about ways to get that money back.
Speaker:So here are some recent tweets that Elon Musk made that I think are
Speaker:interesting to know about, to talk about.
Speaker:So in quotes, he said, To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to
Speaker:Twitter's content moderation policies.
Speaker:And then he also tweeted on October 28th, in quotes, twitter will
Speaker:be forming a content moderation.
Speaker:Council with widely diverse viewpoint.
Speaker:No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that.
Speaker:Council reconvenes.
Speaker:So what that means is if you did lose your Twitter account and you're looking to get
Speaker:it back, it's probably gonna happen after this council meets and they go through
Speaker:the conversations of whatever needs to.
Speaker:So the good news is if you did have your Twitter account banned,
Speaker:there may be a highly good chance that you will be getting it back.
Speaker:It's just a matter of when, but I think things are moving at a pretty
Speaker:quick pace with Twitter right now.
Speaker:All right, so here's another tweet by Elon Musk that he made recently in
Speaker:quotes, comedies now legal on Twitter.
Speaker:So I know that people who are just being banned for so many things and you know,
Speaker:being banned from their accounts are probably happy that Twitter is going to
Speaker:be more open game to, you know, talk more freely when it comes to freedom of speech.
Speaker:But then on the other hand, we also have to be careful about the people
Speaker:that are gonna abuse that power that they were given and what are gonna
Speaker:be the ramifications of dealing.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:Here's another tweet that he made.
Speaker:He tweeted last night, and this is like a vote for, you know, in quotes,
Speaker:Bring back Vine with a question mark.
Speaker:So he is asking if we should bring back Vine.
Speaker:And I think the reason why he's asking this is because he might be
Speaker:thinking of incorporating that app into Twitter somehow, or coming up
Speaker:with another new variation of a feature that's incorporated with Twitter
Speaker:that has the functionality of Vine.
Speaker:Now, if you guys don't know what that is, it is a free mobile app that allows users
Speaker:to record and share unlimited number of.
Speaker:Looping video clips that have a maximum length of six seconds.
Speaker:And what happened is Vine was acquired by Twitter back in October
Speaker:of 2012, and then the app showed up in January, 2013 in the app store.
Speaker:But.
Speaker:It was kind of shut down, but the content's still there for people
Speaker:who already posted from what I heard, so that's interesting.
Speaker:Now, some other headlines that are happening, and this is happening
Speaker:pretty much today, is that
Speaker:the Washington Post shared that Twitter is going to lay off 25% of its workforce
Speaker:in the first round of job cuts.
Speaker:Key word here, first round of job cuts.
Speaker:So what that means is, This is just the first round.
Speaker:There's probably gonna be round two, a round three.
Speaker:Who knows?
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:and if you're gonna survive there, I don't know what he's looking for, but
Speaker:you better be damn good at what you do.
Speaker:And I think that it's really important to, do things in a timely
Speaker:manner, from what I can tell.
Speaker:Cuz he's not playing around.
Speaker:He's like, Listen, I'm here, I'm taking over and we are making
Speaker:moves really, really quickly.
Speaker:and he's got his lawyer, Alex Sparrow, and he's already working very closely
Speaker:with his lawyer on, you know, what needs to happen and getting things done
Speaker:in a very quick and efficient manner.
Speaker:He's got his team and everything he needs, he's got right.
Speaker:He, he's got the resources and he is ready to just plunge right in and, you know,
Speaker:have a game plan of what he wants to do.
Speaker:And I'm sure that game plan will change.
Speaker:Once the dust settles from the layoffs, from bringing new management on, from the
Speaker:immediate changes that he wants to make, and then next year you might see some more
Speaker:of, okay, what's actually, launching or new features are coming out, or changes
Speaker:that are drastic because of the takeover.
Speaker:So the other thing is that on Sunday he tweeted in quotes, the whole
Speaker:verification process is being revamp.
Speaker:So he gave his employees their first ultimatum as well.
Speaker:He said meet the deadline to introduce paid verification on
Speaker:Twitter, our pack up and leave.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:So the directive is to change Twitter blue, which is basically an option
Speaker:that Twitter has currently that users can pay $4 and 99 cents a.
Speaker:a subscription that unlocks additional features and.
Speaker:He wants to turn that into a more expensive subscription
Speaker:that also verifies users.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:But if you're not sure what even Twitter Blue was, it was launched like about a
Speaker:year ago and it was a way to view ad-free articles from some publishers and also
Speaker:make other tweaks, you know, to the app, such as having different color home
Speaker:screen icons and some additional features.
Speaker:And there was an article that came.
Speaker:A couple hours ago last night from the Verge, and they shared that according
Speaker:to people that have some knowledge of the matter and internal correspondence
Speaker:seen by the Verge, Twitter is currently planning to charge $19 and 99 cents
Speaker:for the new Twitter blue subscription.
Speaker:Under the current plan, verified users would have 90 days to
Speaker:subscribe or lose their blue check.
Speaker:Employees working on the project, were told on Sunday that they need to meet
Speaker:a deadline of November 7th to launch the feature or they will be fired.
Speaker:So Elon is not playing around.
Speaker:He wants us done and he wants it done by the deadline.
Speaker:And if it's not done, audios go find another place to work.
Speaker:This is going to get real, real fast.
Speaker:All right, you guys.
Speaker:So let's talk now about some of the requests that we're seeing
Speaker:from Twitter users of things that they want Elon to fix.
Speaker:So one of the things that is really high up there on the list is that they
Speaker:want Twitter to get rid of all the bots.
Speaker:They're complaining that there's too many bots and they post something.
Speaker:There's all these bots replying in their inboxes and all this.
Speaker:And yeah, that does need to.
Speaker:. And then some people are talking about, you know, wanting to see
Speaker:how tweets can be monetized.
Speaker:And this is because, many other social media platforms like
Speaker:Instagram and Facebook and YouTube and TikTok are allowing users.
Speaker:And content creators to make money from their content and from their posts.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:And Twitter is the only platform that really has not
Speaker:jumped on that bandwagon yet.
Speaker:So it is something that, you know, users want to see.
Speaker:Now, do I think if it will happen?
Speaker:I, I don't know.
Speaker:I don't know
Speaker:you know, because that would change a lot, right?
Speaker:That would, that would just change a lot.
Speaker:And I think.
Speaker:, we're gonna see a lot of things happen first before that happens.
Speaker:Although I think if Twitter wants to be competitive with all of these other
Speaker:platforms like Instagram and TikTok and YouTube and Facebook, then you know,
Speaker:they may need to do that to, to keep the interest, you know, of, users or
Speaker:not just the interest, but I think it's about growing the platform to getting
Speaker:more people to come to Twitter that maybe were not even Twitter fans before.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:But now they're like, Elon's taken over.
Speaker:You know, this thing is gonna get to be really big and I can
Speaker:grow my following, and so many exciting things are gonna happen.
Speaker:So I think people are looking at Twitter with a whole new, fresh pair of eyes
Speaker:right now, and they're like, Wow, why didn't I spend more time on Twitter?
Speaker:Why didn't I pay attention to Twitter?
Speaker:Why didn't I post on Twitter?
Speaker:And now you're seeing a lot of people that didn't post on Twitter for.
Speaker:Or going back to their Twitter accounts and reviving their
Speaker:accounts and starting to post.
Speaker:The other thing that was shared by users is that Twitter should find
Speaker:a way to compensate and provide monetization for top craters.
Speaker:Twitter should also find a way to compensate and partner with its top
Speaker:creators, just like every other platform is , even Walmart's in the game.
Speaker:Now you guys can go listen to my previous podcast episode where.
Speaker:Walmart is launching their content partner platform that
Speaker:you know is in beta right now.
Speaker:Officially it's gonna launch in 2023, but you can learn how to apply for that if you
Speaker:wanna monetize, you know, your content.
Speaker:The other option that people are asking for is the option to save video
Speaker:directly, like they save picture.
Speaker:and I think one of the biggest useful features that is in really high
Speaker:demand is that Twitter currently does not have a edit button.
Speaker:And it would be great if they can have an edit button, and I think
Speaker:I, I heard something that they're gonna start testing it or doing it.
Speaker:I just don't know when it's gonna roll out or if it's gonna roll
Speaker:out to everyone or what's gonna.
Speaker:Now we're gonna talk about the pushback because there is pushback that Twitter's
Speaker:getting from certain celebrities, from lawmakers and advertisers because
Speaker:they're worried about how Twitter is gonna change under Elon's leadership.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:And that's a valid concern because if they're used to paying money to
Speaker:advertise on Twitter, and you know, he's a Tesla guy and they're like the
Speaker:Ford company, you know, for Ford cars.
Speaker:Why would they wanna advertise there?
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:Or if they do, like, they're gonna need to have to revamp and think about how.
Speaker:, they're gonna do that.
Speaker:Or if they wanna put their money and give it to someone,
Speaker:that's their com competition.
Speaker:Really.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:In a way.
Speaker:And not directly competition.
Speaker:You don't compare a Ford with a Tesla, but in terms of the car industry, right?
Speaker:So that's another thing to think about.
Speaker:And one of the other things that happened recently is, , the NBA
Speaker:star LeBron James tweeted yesterday that there's been a surge in, you
Speaker:know, people using the racist n word and it's been since Elon's takeover.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:And he's hoping that Elon and his team are really gonna take this
Speaker:very seriously because that's not.
Speaker:Where we wanna go.
Speaker:I get that with, you know, LeBron, like, he's totally right.
Speaker:I mean, this is like, we don't need to go backwards.
Speaker:I mean, we're still like living in a society where things are
Speaker:just not the way they should be.
Speaker:And we definitely don't need to go backwards.
Speaker:I mean, we need to go forwards and we need to like come together and.
Speaker:I agree with that.
Speaker:So I don't wanna see Twitter get outta control, but it's
Speaker:gonna be a rollercoaster.
Speaker:I think it's gonna be quite interest.
Speaker:Even Trump is back.
Speaker:So then also Shonda Rhimes, she's, you know, celebrity.
Speaker:She said that she's gonna be taking a break from Twitter.
Speaker:So you guys are gonna see like, so much happening.
Speaker:But this is kind of.

Speaker:Video content and you know, a video platform of some sort, almost similar
Speaker:to YouTube shorts or Instagram stories.
Speaker:It would just make sense that they did something like that.
Speaker:You know, and, and when you think about one, well, he's got all
Speaker:the money in the world, so one is not that hard for him to hire.
Speaker:Teams and teams of people to say, Hey, you're gonna work 15,
Speaker:16 hours a day, 20 hours a day.
Speaker:This is getting done.
Speaker:Cuz this is already what it's sounding like from some of the articles that
Speaker:are out there that are talking about, he's giving ultimatums about, Hey, get
Speaker:this done, or you're gonna be fired.
Speaker:So interesting.
