St Barnabas, along with the Twelve Apostles and with St Paul, was one of the highest regarded men in the Early Church. This comes out very strongly in the effusive care St Luke takes in describing his personality: “for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith.” He was known as an effective evangeliser: maybe this is why. A question for us is - are we known for these things? When people think of us, do they think of someone who is bountifully good? Is it obvious we are filled with the Holy Spirit? Do many know us as someone filled with faith? If not - don’t stress! But let’s ask God for these gifts, through St Barnabas’ interested intercession.
