Shownotes

What’s one small act of kindness someone has done for you that you never forgot?

Not a big, life-changing moment, just something simple that said, “I see you.”

Sometimes the most meaningful care we give or receive comes through the smallest moments. Devin Almonte shares about a moment she witnessed on a walk: a husband stopping to kneel down and tie his wife’s shoe.

It was simple. Almost invisible. But it carried a powerful reminder about what it looks like to care for one another.

In today’s Anchor Point, Devin reflects on how we often think of “carrying each other’s burdens” as the big hardships in life. But many times it’s the everyday moments that reveal real love and attentiveness.

Scripture (NIV):

Galatians 6:2 – “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Devin:

The most meaningful moments are often the ones that nobody notices. I was out walking the other day and there was this couple ahead of me. At first I thought they had dropped something because I saw the husband crouched down with his knee on the ground.

Devin:

Then I realized what he was doing. He was tying his wife's shoelace. They looked like they were probably in their seventies, just out for their walk together. He simply stopped, bent down, tied her shoe, and they kept going. It spoke volumes about how he cared for his wife.

Devin:

And I’ll be honest, I had a funny thought while watching the whole thing. My husband and I have been married a long time, and I don’t think either one of us has ever bent down to tie the other person’s shoes when the laces come undone.

Devin:

But it was such a sweet gesture that said so much. It brought me back to the Bible, because the Bible talks about how we are to carry one another’s burdens. That’s in Galatians 6:2.

Devin:

When I hear that verse, I tend to think about the big things. Illness, loss, financial issues, the heavy seasons of life. But a lot of the time it’s actually the small things. The undone shoelaces of our lives.

Devin:

The moments when someone brings the trash can in, grabs the mail, or fixes someone’s shirt when it’s all messed up. Sometimes we just need a little help and someone to slow down long enough, even for a brief moment, to notice.

Devin:

And God cares for us that way too. First Peter says to cast our cares on Him because He cares for us. Not just the big things. The little things too.

Devin:

So maybe today we think about this. Who around us needs a shoelace tied?
