On this Safety View Rosa leads our session to discuss "The Myth of Crisis Leadership: a Practical Approach to Stress Management".

Every day we are showered with articles and webinars on how to manage “return to work” the “new normal” or the upcoming economic crisis.

They recommend creating psychological safety, paying attention to people’s emotions, practicing mindfulness and vulnerability. If you wait until a crisis to apply these practices it is too late.

These are the leadership qualities and practices needed everyday. That’s how you develop the trust and open communication that you will need during crisis. That’s how you develop the skill to apply them when stress kicks in.

We live in an increasingly hyper-connected, dynamic, rapidly changing world that has resulted in massive complexity. Per the Global Wellness Institute, most of the world’s 3.4 billion workers are unwell.  They ranked the issues that employers across various sectors believed would have the most negative impact on productivity.  Stress led the list of issues, reported by 72% of organizations.

Let’s explore the way forward through relationship centered leadership and mindfulness. Let’s answer:

  • What is the reality of our situation, and what needs to change?
  • What outcome do we want - what would that look/feel like?
  • What options do we have to start to make progress, and what can we commit to?
  • How did it go? What should we try next?

Each one-hour session is hosted by an expert or stakeholder in safety performance. And each session invites all attendees to participate, listen, and learn from each other and through conversation and shared experiences. Collectively, we explore the human system’s impact on safety and performance - relationally, psychologically, and socially.
