What part of the world are you in today?

I am in Kentucky United States.

Have you always lived there?

I have lived in the U.S. always, a couple different states, but yeah, I've been here.

Tell me about your journey from being locked up to then sharing Christ's freedom with the world.

Yeah, so I was incarcerated for trafficking drugs and I was a drug addict and I just, I couldn't seem to get free from addiction.

You know, I got out of jail and went to rehabs and would continue to use drugs.

The cycle just continued for years until one day someone invited me to church, which, you know, I was raised around that, you know, and was familiar with it, but I didn't want that.

So this person is actually my dad.

He asked me to come to church with him for his birthday present.

It was his birthday in 2016, and that's all he wanted was for his son, who was a drug addict, to just join him at church for this Easter Sunday.

And so I went and the preacher said something that just affected me.

He said, if you've been in, if you're in this room and you've been living without purpose, come to this altar, give your life to Jesus and you will have purpose.

And that was the one thing that I needed to hear because up until this point, I had lived my whole life trying to find purpose.

I felt like I was just a waste of a human, you know, no matter what I achieved, getting a good job didn't satisfy me, making good money didn't satisfy me, being in relationships, you know, having things, owning a home, nothing ever seemed to satisfy me.

I just felt like, what's the point in all of this?

And when I was on drugs, you know, it gave me that synthetic happiness that betrayed me every day.

You know, I could never stay happy.

The drugs always, you know, they let me down every day.

And so when I gave my life to Christ, purpose was born in my life.

And I decided to follow Jesus every day.

I was going to be wide open with my faith.

I was going to read the entire Bible.

I was going to believe it.

I was going to apply it to my life.

I was going to share it with others.

And so that's what happened.

I went to a recovery program and started to just live out my faith.

And I no longer wanted to live the way I used to live in addiction.

And so I changed everything.

You know, my habits changed, my lifestyle changed, my thinking changed, the way I would talk.

It all changed in my walk with Christ.

And after graduating that program, I started working for them.

And people started inviting me to share my testimony at different places, churches, and jails and schools.

And so that's kind of what started the path that I'm on now of, you know, ministry.

When did it click for you that, hey, I'm serving by doing the testimonies?

I'm in the track, right?

I'm in the track that most people fall into after becoming saved, but when did it click?

When was it ignited?

When did the light go off that this is something that you want to be radical for?

Yeah, so I would say about a year.

About a year after walking with the Lord, I really started sharing my testimony where a preacher called me out of the crowd.

I had never seen him before.

The church flew him in from Oregon.

He didn't know me at all, and he told me to come forward.

And he said, you know, he said, God wants you to write a book.

He said, it's your story, and it's going to help others.

And so I'd never forgotten that he said that.

And in 2020, I would bring my laptop home from work, and I would just put my thoughts of, you know, recollecting my life.

I would put it on a Word document, and I just typed and typed and typed.

And for about a year, I would do that off and on until my book was written.

And once my book got out there, it's called Jesus is Greater Than Drugs.

That started, you know, nationwide speaking events.

You know, people in chaplains from jails were reaching out to me, and we started donating that book to different jails around the country.

And we did it, actually.

Every single jail and prison in the United States was sent a copy of my book.

And so, yeah, it's just turned into worldwide now, actually.

A few months ago, I went to Mexico and spoke at several facilities out there.

So, yeah, I would say about a year into my salvation, I knew that this was something I was going to have to continue.

I was going to get to continue to do was share my testimony on a regular basis.

If you had the opportunity to get to somewhere logistically in the world, anywhere on the map that doesn't know your story, do you think that you'd still let them know where you came from?

Yeah, absolutely.

I am an open book, you know.

I would let every person know, right, what the Lord has delivered me from.

The way I see it is I had a terminal illness.

My addiction was going to kill me.

There's no doubt about it.

And then I met someone who cured me from my terminal illness, and that person is Jesus.

And so, I feel like I have an obligation to tell the whole world that Jesus can set anyone free from anything.

And it doesn't just stop at addiction.

You name it.

If you're bound, he can set you free.

And so, yeah, absolutely.

I will tell when I'm 30 years sober, I'll still be telling people about Jesus radically set me free from addiction.

It's amazing how Jesus works, isn't it?

Oh, he's the answer, you know.

He's the absolute answer.

He's the answer to freedom from addiction, depression, lust, gluttony, hate, you name it.

He's the answer.

What is your relationship like with your children understanding your path and your personality and your weaknesses?

How is it raising them?

So, my children are still very young.

My son is seven and my daughter is five.

We are very strategic on discipling our children, you know, and reading the Bible to them and having them active in church.

But they don't know about addiction yet.

They don't know what that word means yet.

But I do have, you know, my first book, which is, you know, it's everywhere.

And they see me, you know, speaking places.

And so, they knew that daddy was in jail a long time ago.

And so, I told them, as easy as you can tell a child, I said, there was one time when daddy did not walk with Jesus.

And because of that, I didn't live a good life.

But when I met Jesus, he changed me.

And I have never been back to jail since I found Jesus and since Jesus found me.

And so, you know, I'm going to tell them everything that I feel like they should know when they are at the appropriate age.

But for now, we're keeping it very simple.

And we are being very strategic on teaching our children the ways of the Lord and biblical principles.

So that, you know, scripture says, train a child in the way he should go.

And when he is old, he will not depart from it.

You know, my parents were wonderful.

You know, I can't blame my addiction on my parents.

But, you know, they didn't know what to look for in my behavior that led me to addiction.

And so, thankfully, I know that behavior.

I know what to look for.

And we're going to teach our children things to avoid and things to practice to make sure that they don't fall into addiction.

So many questions, so little time.

Right.

You know, just remember that we didn't get to where we are today on our own.

It's by the grace of God and your platform and everything that is being built in your life.

Let it always be Jesus.

No matter no matter how popular or whatever the case may be, it's all for Jesus.

And if we're ever known for anything, just let it be for loving Jesus.

Yeah, I just want to remind you, man, that no matter what you're going through, Jesus loves you.

He is for you.

He wants a relationship with you.

And I would encourage you for every day of your life, find time to get alone with Jesus, pray, which is just talking to him, and then read the word, which is him talking to you.

And that will be the greatest investment of your day in your life is your alone time with Jesus.
