Miracles in the Modern World: Finding Evidence of God’s Work Today

Let's start with a metaphor today. Imagine a young child building a sandcastle on the beach. She meticulously shapes each tower, carefully scooping and patting the sand into form. Suddenly, a wave crashes in and destroys her work. But then, out of nowhere, another wave rushes back, miraculously reconstructing the castle, even down to the finest detail. In our world, we often see the destructive wave but overlook the restorative one.

Our scripture today comes from the book of John 14:12 (NIV), "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."

The Bible is filled with miracles: the parting of the Red Sea, the feeding of the 5000, the raising of Lazarus from the dead. But what about miracles in the modern world? Are they still happening? And if so, where can we find them?

**1. Miracles in the Everyday:** Often, we look for the spectacular when seeking evidence of miracles, forgetting that the very fabric of life is a miracle. The birth of a child, the healing of a long-standing emotional wound, the unexplainable peace in the midst of a storm — all these are miracles. Let's remember what Albert Einstein said, "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."

**2. Miracles in Science and Medicine:** Breakthroughs in science and medicine often bring about outcomes that seem miraculous. Think about the eradication of deadly diseases, the advances in technology that allow for intricate surgeries, or the understanding of the human genome. Are these not evidence of miracles in our modern world?

**3. Miracles of Transformation:** The most profound miracles may be the transformations within us — the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Think about the life-altering power of a person coming to faith, the restoration of a broken relationship, or the breaking of generational curses.

Let's pray together:

"Lord, open our eyes to see Your miracles all around us. Help us to recognize Your hand in our everyday lives and in the extraordinary breakthroughs of our time. Thank You for Your miraculous power at work within us, transforming us into the image of Christ. We pray that we may become living miracles, testaments of Your love and grace in this world. In Jesus' name, Amen."

May you go from this place with eyes to see the miracles unfolding around you. May you be a vessel of God’s miraculous power, bringing hope and light into the world. And may the God of miracles continue to work wonders in and through your life. Amen.
