Jesus. Matthew 6:9. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 9 of 30 Days of Prayer. “Our Father in Heaven.” Take a minute with me and role back through your day, recalling the faces you’ve seen. Your little girl wearing a strawberry-jam smile. The mugshot of a neighbor just arrested. The pharmacist at the corner drug. The old man asking for a handout. The tear-streaked face of a broken-hearted teen. These, among the myriad of other faces that slipped briefly in and out of your life.
. . . ‘Our Father’ Yes, when you or I pray, we are challenged by Jesus to remember that, as we seek his face, we are one of them, connected inseparably to this pulsing web of humanity HE so desperately loves. While your relationship with Him is unique—and he is uniquely devoted to you—you never pray as an isolated self. You pray both as an individual person—and as one among the vast family of humanity. ‘Our Father’ is an invitation to humility. An invitation to press into him for us—all of us—not just self. It is a reminder that, while you are exquisitely valued by Him, so are they. Every last one of them.
