DIET DRINKS AS GOOD AS WATER? (FOX NEWS)

Put down that bottle of water and grab a Diet Coke? A two-year study involving 493 adults found that people consuming artificially sweetened beverages lost about 10.6 pounds, compared with 8.2 pounds for water drinkers. Researchers found no meaningful weight-loss disadvantage from diet drinks, although both groups participated in weight-management programs. Is diet soda finally getting a clean bill of health?

JIHADI MALL ATTACK! (NOT THE BEE)

The FBI arrested 18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud of Minnesota after uncovering an alleged ISIS-inspired mass-shooting plot targeting the Mall of America. Investigators say he planned to attack an October 24 cultural celebration, potentially killing dozens. Undercover agents supplied an inoperable AK-47 and ammunition before arresting him October 6. Federal terrorism-related charges have been filed.

Patricia Krenwinkel, 78, a convicted member of Charles Manson’s murderous cult, has received her third parole recommendation after roughly 56 years behind bars. Convicted in the infamous 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders, Krenwinkel previously had parole decisions reversed twice by Governor Gavin Newsom. Now California must decide again whether one of America’s most notorious killers should ever walk free.
