Speaker:

everybody.

Speaker:

Welcome back to the elemental Ivan podcast, where I simplify complex health

Speaker:

topics from a holistic perspective.

Speaker:

So thank you all for joining me today.

Speaker:

Super excited to jump into today's episode.

Speaker:

And I wanted to start off this episode with a question for all of you.

Speaker:

How many of you have dealt with brain fog?

Speaker:

Maybe difficulty remembering someone's name or any form of

Speaker:

information for that matter.

Speaker:

And maybe even had difficulty recalling on certain information or certain memories.

Speaker:

, if you were a human being.

Speaker:

You've probably experienced this at at least one point in time in your life.

Speaker:

For some, it might be a more common and, uh, occur more often than for others.

Speaker:

But nonetheless, I think this is something that most people can relate to, but I

Speaker:

personally really hate it when I need my brain to be working at its top potential.

Speaker:

Especially in moments when I'm meeting someone for the first time,

Speaker:

it could be a new client or even just someone that is someone who's new.

Speaker:

New or a friend that I'm reconnecting with.

Speaker:

Uh, maybe it is during a podcast like this one, or it could even be,

Speaker:

if you are studying for a test or an exam, if you're still in school,

Speaker:

Whatever it may be.

Speaker:

It is nice to have your brain working at its top performance at all times possible.

Speaker:

Uh, okay.

Speaker:

Maybe not.

Speaker:

When you're sitting down and watching Netflix, maybe you don't need your brain

Speaker:

kick in at that moment in time, but nonetheless, it's really nice to have

Speaker:

your brain working when you need it.

Speaker:

And for a lot of people, this is the case where their brain is not always

Speaker:

turned on and it is not firing on all cylinders when we really need it to.

Speaker:

So if this is you, which like I said, most people tend to deal with this issue.

Speaker:

Do not worry.

Speaker:

There are ways in which we can really fire and rewire our brains.

Speaker:

That are very easy to do.

Speaker:

A lot of them are absolutely zero cost and have a huge benefit for our brains.

Speaker:

These are practices that I use all the time.

Speaker:

And I'm super excited to share these with you all today.

Speaker:

Now, please remember that at the end of these episodes, I will

Speaker:

have a breakdown of each episode.

Speaker:

As well as some actionable steps that you can take today and apply

Speaker:

the information and knowledge within this episode into your life.

Speaker:

Literally right after this episode, that is my goal is to provide

Speaker:

you with information that you can actually apply to your life, right?

Speaker:

Because knowledge, while you can think of it in terms of power.

Speaker:

Is really just.

Speaker:

Potential power.

Speaker:

Uh, until we actually apply it to our lights.

Speaker:

So that's the goal here is to give you some information that you

Speaker:

can actually apply to your life.

Speaker:

So let's go ahead and jump in with the very first, one of five different things.

Speaker:

That you can do to improve your brain health and get it

Speaker:

to work at its top performance.

Speaker:

Now the first one is going to be my all time.

Speaker:

Favorite medicinal mushroom.

Speaker:

If you've listened to the show before you probably already know what it is.

Speaker:

But the mushroom is called lion's mane.

Speaker:

Now it does not have anything to do with a lion's mane.

Speaker:

It does not grow on the main of Elian.

Speaker:

It does not do anything with a lion at all.

Speaker:

The reason it's called lion's mane mushroom is because it kind of looks

Speaker:

like, well, the mane of a lion.

Speaker:

It's kind of hairy.

Speaker:

Um, it doesn't really look like the mane of a lion.

Speaker:

It's actually a typically white in color.

Speaker:

Uh, grows on usually dead or decaying trees.

Speaker:

And yeah, grows down in these kinds of hairlike structures.

Speaker:

Now for those of you who don't know, this is an edible mushroom that

Speaker:

you can actually cook or rather, I should say a culinary mushroom.

Speaker:

Of course.

Speaker:

It's.

Speaker:

Edible because we would not be talking about taking it.

Speaker:

If it was not edible.

Speaker:

But it is culinary.

Speaker:

So people do cook up this mushroom.

Speaker:

It is very tasty.

Speaker:

I have had it myself.

Speaker:

Uh, it pulls apart like pork kind of a, so think of shredded pork.

Speaker:

Um, it's really, really tasty.

Speaker:

And on top of that, it is very beneficial for your brain, actually

Speaker:

extremely beneficial for the brain.

Speaker:

So let's go ahead and dive into a little bit of why it's so good for the brain.

Speaker:

So, first off, it's going to do something that's called stimulating

Speaker:

your nerve growth factor.

Speaker:

So this is a little technical here, but I'll kind of break this down.

Speaker:

So it supports the growth and survival of developing and mature neurons.

Speaker:

So as we age.

Speaker:

Uh, pretty much from about our twenties on, we have these things called

Speaker:

myelin sheets and they begin to slowly decay, which slows the efficiency

Speaker:

and the transmission of electrical impulses in our brain from neuron.

Speaker:

Neuron.

Speaker:

Now, I know that's a little bit confusing, but to put it more simply lion's mane

Speaker:

mushroom is going to allow for your brain to think more efficiently and quickly.

Speaker:

So it can literally show up as, you know, having better memory or

Speaker:

recalling on memories with ease.

Speaker:

Uh, pretty much just being able to.

Speaker:

I think more efficiently and faster, which is obviously something that

Speaker:

we all probably want to have.

Speaker:

Um, I definitely do.

Speaker:

And now in terms of studies, which there are many, many

Speaker:

studies on lion's mane, mushroom.

Speaker:

There was one study done in Japan in 2009, where they tested lion's

Speaker:

mane, mushroom on men and women between the ages of 50 and 80.

Speaker:

Over the course of 16 weeks.

Speaker:

And what they ended up finding was that when comparing the control group, which

Speaker:

is the group that did not receive any lion's mane, as opposed to the group

Speaker:

that did take a daily dose of lion's mane mushroom the group that took the

Speaker:

daily dose of lion's mane mushroom actually had higher cognitive function.

Speaker:

Test scores at various stages during the study.

Speaker:

However, the only bad thing about this was the cognitive scores did

Speaker:

decline after the lion's mane was no longer administered what, which

Speaker:

is basically what this means is.

Speaker:

Once you stopped taking lion's mane mushroom, the benefits will start to

Speaker:

decline kind of a bummer here, but I will say that the benefits and kind of

Speaker:

the overall effect is very tangible.

Speaker:

You can feel this 100%.

Speaker:

Uh, and the reason I'm saying that is because I have experienced

Speaker:

with lion's mane mushroom.

Speaker:

I have, uh, tried multiple brands of lion's mane, mushroom.

Speaker:

And I definitely have noticed the effects.

Speaker:

I, uh, went ahead and took, I think it was 30 days or 60 days of lion's

Speaker:

mane mushroom while I was in college.

Speaker:

And.

Speaker:

It definitely made you just a little bit sharper, like you could just recall on

Speaker:

people's names a lot easier on facts, easier, your, it just seemed like your

Speaker:

mind was always turned on and ready to go, which is really, really beneficial.

Speaker:

Now I know it does kind of suck that it's something you have to take all the time.

Speaker:

But I guess that's kind of anything in life, right?

Speaker:

You have to be consistent with it to have the results.

Speaker:

So for that reason, I tried to find a way in which I would enjoy taking

Speaker:

lion's mane mushroom, which for some people might show up as honestly, just

Speaker:

a capsule or a tincture, whatever form you take, your other supplements in

Speaker:

might be the ideal way for you, because it would be easiest for you to do it.

Speaker:

And maybe you already have a habit around that kind of method.

Speaker:

However for myself, uh, if I can make it into something that's enjoyable as well.

Speaker:

Um, typically what's something that has a nice flavor to it.

Speaker:

That is the route I will go.

Speaker:

Now it's difficult for me to find lion's mane mushroom.

Speaker:

Uh, at a grocery store.

Speaker:

And even when I do, it's typically pretty expensive, so

Speaker:

I don't usually cook it at home.

Speaker:

So, what I will do is I've found a, uh, powdered drink mix that

Speaker:

has lion's mane mushroom in it.

Speaker:

It also has other gut healing benefits with it.

Speaker:

Uh, which is something that I'm really, really huge on.

Speaker:

Uh, so that's typically what I take.

Speaker:

It's the Organifi pure blend.

Speaker:

Uh, it's honestly just a very tasty drink that I can have midday.

Speaker:

Uh, when, you know, I'm kind of craving something that's a little bit

Speaker:

sweet and has a little flavor to it.

Speaker:

So that's usually what I'll drink and it will help to get my lion's mane in

Speaker:

and keep my brain firing and rewiring.

Speaker:

Uh, but like I said, there are tons of other ways in which you can get your

Speaker:

lion's mane, but if you do want to get the Organifi pure, be sure to check

Speaker:

out the show notes because I do have a 20% discount code and that's just

Speaker:

for being a listener to this show.

Speaker:

So make sure you click on the link in the show notes and check it out there.

Speaker:

Uh, but if you want to try other methods, because trust

Speaker:

me, I have tried many of them.

Speaker:

Uh, there are many out there.

Speaker:

There's multiple brands.

Speaker:

Um, just off the top of my head, I can think of Omar mushroom.

Speaker:

Uh, there's rainbow mushroom.

Speaker:

There is four Sigmatic.

Speaker:

There is host defense.

Speaker:

There are so many different brands out there.

Speaker:

Um, it's very difficult to know which ones are really the best.

Speaker:

One thing I try to look for is something that is dual extracted, uh, that is

Speaker:

usually going to be a really good form of the mushroom, because that

Speaker:

means you're getting both the alcohol.

Speaker:

Uh, extraction as well as the hot water extraction, which both method will get

Speaker:

different, uh, components of the mushroom.

Speaker:

So it is important to definitely have it dual extracted now.

Speaker:

Some people do not like to have my Sealyham in their products.

Speaker:

And I understand that, um, I actually kind of agree with it because a lot

Speaker:

of the times the mycelium is grown on.

Speaker:

Oh, and sorry.

Speaker:

For those of you who do not know what my Sealyham is.

Speaker:

It is the root system of a mushroom.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

The mushroom that you would actually see is called the fruiting body.

Speaker:

It's kind of like the apple for an apple tree.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

And then the mycelium is the roots now.

Speaker:

There is evidence that the roots or the mycelium do have benefits, uh, and

Speaker:

especially with lion's mane mushroom.

Speaker:

So with this one, I kind of do not fully agree with just the fruiting body,

Speaker:

because I have seen research that shows that the mycelium do have benefit to it.

Speaker:

Regardless.

Speaker:

I think if you're just taking it, no matter what, it's still

Speaker:

going to be of benefit for you.

Speaker:

I'm kind of getting into the weeds here and getting very specific.

Speaker:

I think really the.

Speaker:

You know, we shouldn't let, um, Great be the enemy of good here.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

If you're able to take a lion's mane mushroom product.

Speaker:

And it is reasonably priced as well as, uh, you know, using ethical

Speaker:

practices than I am all for it.

Speaker:

100%.

Speaker:

Of course, I do try to stick with organic.

Speaker:

Um, and you know, that's why I really like Organifi.

Speaker:

They are organic and they do not use, uh, pesticides on any of their stuff.

Speaker:

They.

Speaker:

Uh, do you use a third-party to test for glyphosate?

Speaker:

So they're really providing a super high quality product there and it tastes good.

Speaker:

So that's usually why I go with that one.

Speaker:

Um, I have done tinctures.

Speaker:

I have done the powders, all that.

Speaker:

Honestly, they're fine.

Speaker:

They just, I don't know.

Speaker:

They're not as enjoyable for me to take.

Speaker:

That's literally why I don't take those ones.

Speaker:

And, uh, also I get the added benefit of the gut benefits with the pure blend cell.

Speaker:

That's kind of why I go that route.

Speaker:

So that's going to be the very first one that we're going to have in this series

Speaker:

of five different things you can do for improving the, uh, abilities of your

Speaker:

brain to basically think and remember, and just perform at a higher level.

Speaker:

Now, moving on to the second one.

Speaker:

This is something that, let me tell you is pure medicine.

Speaker:

Now you might not have heard of exercise as referred to as pure

Speaker:

medicine, but it really, really is.

Speaker:

And when I say exercise, I'm not just talking about getting yourself into

Speaker:

a gym and, you know, getting some weights on there and, you know, having

Speaker:

the traditional gym rat style and all that stuff, if that is your method

Speaker:

of workout, amazing stick with it.

Speaker:

It's a beautiful form of exercise, but.

Speaker:

But there is a whole other world of exercise out there

Speaker:

and it all gives benefit.

Speaker:

And one of those benefits is for your brain.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

So exercise wall, it does have the side effect of making you look ridiculously.

Speaker:

Good looking.

Speaker:

It's also super good for your brain.

Speaker:

It can turn on your brain.

Speaker:

It can actually improve your mood as well.

Speaker:

Um, there are some studies out there that show it can be beneficial

Speaker:

for people who are dealing with things like depression and anxiety.

Speaker:

Uh, I'm not going to cite any of those sources here and I'm not

Speaker:

going to get too deep into that one.

Speaker:

I'm going to keep it mainly here with just getting our brain

Speaker:

to perform at a higher level.

Speaker:

So really at the end of the day,

Speaker:

Exercise can really help with cognitive or brain performance.

Speaker:

Uh, it can literally clear brain fog and enhance your brains abilities overall.

Speaker:

Uh, for those of you who do work out regularly, I'm sure you've already

Speaker:

seen this and recognize this benefit.

Speaker:

Uh, you might be having a day where you just feel off your

Speaker:

brain, isn't working, right.

Speaker:

Or maybe you just feel groggy and not feeling.

Speaker:

Your full potential self on that specific day, but then you get

Speaker:

into a good exercise and wow.

Speaker:

It can absolutely change your whole demeanor and really turn on your brain.

Speaker:

So one of the most notable effects of exercise is its

Speaker:

ability to increase blood flow.

Speaker:

And by improving circulation throughout the body, including the brain.

Speaker:

Uh, healthy blood flow.

Speaker:

Is absolutely crucial to your brain's health, right?

Speaker:

I mean, this kind of just makes sense.

Speaker:

Uh, you need to get blood up to your brain for it to be functioning at a high level.

Speaker:

And what better way than to get your heart rate up and get your cardiovascular

Speaker:

system working and get that blood pumping.

Speaker:

Now I know that sounds very simple, but truthfully, it is so beneficial.

Speaker:

Now there are a slew of other things going on when you exercise that are going

Speaker:

to be benefiting your brain as well.

Speaker:

But this is one of honestly, I think the most.

Speaker:

Important ones.

Speaker:

And it's the most basic as well.

Speaker:

It just gets your blood flow moving.

Speaker:

In fact research has consistently linked.

Speaker:

Exercise with improvements in attention control.

Speaker:

Processing speed.

Speaker:

Working memory capacity and the ability to switch between tasks, literally

Speaker:

making your brain function at a higher level exercise is not just for the body.

Speaker:

It is for us ton of other things in, in your body and your brain.

Speaker:

Uh, with everything.

Speaker:

And one of those things is getting your brain.

Speaker:

To function better.

Speaker:

So just as when you go and do a workout and it gets your body prime to perform

Speaker:

at its peak level, it's also helping your brain to perform at its peak level.

Speaker:

So that's going to be number two.

Speaker:

That is an incredibly beneficial one.

Speaker:

It's free.

Speaker:

You can literally exercise at any time anywhere.

Speaker:

You can go for a walk and you can go do some pushups and some sit-ups.

Speaker:

You really don't need a lot of things to get some exercise in.

Speaker:

It's one of my favorites and definitely had to make the list for today.

Speaker:

Now, moving on to number three, this is something that is less talked about.

Speaker:

Um, maybe if you're in the biohacking realm, you are familiar

Speaker:

with this, but many people are not familiar with methylene blue.

Speaker:

Now for those of you who have never heard of methylene blue, it

Speaker:

was actually discovered in 1886.

Speaker:

And it was a dye.

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

A dye.

Speaker:

Um, using, you know, to like die, not close, but, uh, it was a dye

Speaker:

and it was used to treat malaria.

Speaker:

So why is this good for our brain and what does this have

Speaker:

to do with turning on our brain?

Speaker:

Uh, and also just for the record, I'm not usually one to promote,

Speaker:

um, you know, these kind of.

Speaker:

I guess you could say like pharmaceuticals in a way.

Speaker:

Uh,

Speaker:

But methylene blue is one of those tried and true things where it just has

Speaker:

so much science backing its benefits.

Speaker:

That it is something I will use from time to time to get my

Speaker:

brain working at a high level.

Speaker:

So to make this very complicated explanation and believe me, you

Speaker:

can go look at all the studies and get lost in the crazy vocabulary

Speaker:

and wordage that they have.

Speaker:

Uh, but to make that explanation short methylene blue is able to benefit

Speaker:

your mitochondria and also to mitigate oxidative stress, which is ultimately

Speaker:

going to make your brain function better.

Speaker:

Now, for those of you who don't know what mitochondria is,

Speaker:

or sorry, mitochondria are.

Speaker:

Mitochondria, you can pretty much just think of as the

Speaker:

power plants of your cells.

Speaker:

They produce the energy, they get your brain move in because, uh, sorry,

Speaker:

not your well, they do get your brain moving, but your cells specifically.

Speaker:

So in the areas of your body, where you have high energy demand, such

Speaker:

as your brain, your heart, right?

Speaker:

These are areas where they demand a ton of energy.

Speaker:

We have found that the cells there contain higher amounts of

Speaker:

mitochondria and significantly higher amounts of mitochondria when

Speaker:

compared to the rest of your body, because they demand a lot of energy.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Methylene blue is essentially able to.

Speaker:

Help your mitochondria be more efficient and produce more energy.

Speaker:

And it's also able to, and this is methylene blue is able to

Speaker:

improve memory retention and overall brain energy production.

Speaker:

So the brain energy production, that's the mitochondria, right.

Speaker:

But it's also able to improve memory retention, helping you to memorize

Speaker:

things for a longer period of time.

Speaker:

This is really an awesome tool to use.

Speaker:

Um, it's something that I don't use all the time.

Speaker:

Uh, maximum would probably be once a week for me personally.

Speaker:

Uh, there's multiple brands that produce methylene blue.

Speaker:

One that I personally really like is called Toko scriptions I believe I

Speaker:

said that correctly, I will try to link that in the show notes and they

Speaker:

just use very high quality products.

Speaker:

Um, they're USP certified, at least on definitely on their methylene

Speaker:

blue, which is very important.

Speaker:

Um, USP certification is a very high standard.

Speaker:

It's a third-party testing and actually less than 1% of all like multivitamins,

Speaker:

I believe all supplements are actually.

Speaker:

Uh, certified as USP.

Speaker:

Uh, certified.

Speaker:

So definitely very, very high quality one here.

Speaker:

Um, I'm not going to get into this topic right now, but they do

Speaker:

have one that is methylene blue with a little bit of nicotine and.

Speaker:

I know you might be wondering like what the heck nicotine, but it's kind

Speaker:

of the association with cigarettes.

Speaker:

That's making it bad here.

Speaker:

Nicotine can be used as a nootropic, but let's go ahead and skip over that for now

Speaker:

and just stick with the methylene blue.

Speaker:

They have one that is just straight methylene blue.

Speaker:

Um, you put it in between your teeth and your gum and you let it dissolve.

Speaker:

Now I'm going to give you full disclosure here.

Speaker:

You are going to have a very blue mouth after you do this.

Speaker:

So if you are going to use.

Speaker:

This just before warn, you will have a blue mouth after you take this.

Speaker:

Um, but if you really need your brain to be turned on, let me tell you

Speaker:

in like 10 minutes, this will get your brain moving and functioning.

Speaker:

Uh, very, very effective.

Speaker:

So that's going to be number three, which is methylene blue.

Speaker:

Now we're moving on to number four.

Speaker:

And this is one that some people were a little bit hesitant towards.

Speaker:

They don't believe in it.

Speaker:

They don't think it's very effective, but I am here to tell you that

Speaker:

I am a very, very firm believer because I have practiced this a lot.

Speaker:

That it has beneficial, not only for your brain, but for

Speaker:

many, many things in your life.

Speaker:

And that is meditation.

Speaker:

Now there might be some of you out there thinking, oh my God,

Speaker:

where's this guy going with this?

Speaker:

Is he super woo.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Low key.

Speaker:

I'm a little bit.

Speaker:

Woo.

Speaker:

On top of that, I love to have the science backing things up.

Speaker:

And meditation is one of those things that is getting a ton of studies done on it.

Speaker:

All the time from meditation to gratitude.

Speaker:

It is something that people are really starting to put the science onto it

Speaker:

as well with, you know, the whole Wu side as well, which personally I'm

Speaker:

totally into, uh, don't get me wrong.

Speaker:

I do enjoy kind of going down those rabbit holes.

Speaker:

Uh, but it does have a ton of scientific backings now.

Speaker:

For this episode, I'm not going to jump too much into the scientific

Speaker:

backings on a meditation.

Speaker:

If you really care to, I have other episodes on it that you can go listen to.

Speaker:

'em I have studies linked on there as well.

Speaker:

I believe.

Speaker:

And honestly, you can just type in meditation and studies and you

Speaker:

will find that many, many articles.

Speaker:

Uh, that have been studying meditation and its benefits for

Speaker:

literally not only your brain health, but for everything in your life.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

The reason I personally love meditation is because I tend to be in a very

Speaker:

kind of go, go, go state at all times, especially in the morning when I wake

Speaker:

up, I have so many things on my mind and it's like, you know, from one

Speaker:

thing to the next, I'm just rushing.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

That's really not.

Speaker:

A great state to wake up in every single day.

Speaker:

And a lot of times it's like you wake up and you're just kind of pissed

Speaker:

off at your alarm for even going off.

Speaker:

You wanted another hour asleep, whatever it may be.

Speaker:

Uh, so usually I wake up and my mind can be racing and it's just

Speaker:

a little bit out of control.

Speaker:

Um, I'm not able to think very clearly and make good decisions early on in my day.

Speaker:

So I try to prioritize meditation specifically early on in the day,

Speaker:

but realistically, you can meditate any time of the day and you will

Speaker:

find massive benefit from doing so.

Speaker:

So some of the things that I have recognized while

Speaker:

meditating and after meditating,

Speaker:

Is a sense of calm.

Speaker:

I noticed that my.

Speaker:

Basically my ideas and my thoughts are not just running a muck and, you

Speaker:

know, kind of just controlling me.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

Like a lot of the times when I wake up in the morning, I am.

Speaker:

Uh, kind of the slave to my thoughts, I'm just basically lost in thought

Speaker:

all morning, thinking of the things that I have to accomplish.

Speaker:

And I don't really have the ability to clear out my mind and focus on the things

Speaker:

that really actually matter for that day.

Speaker:

It doesn't matter what time I'm going to go grab a lunch later or

Speaker:

any, any of that random stuff that runs through the mind early on.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

The things that matter need to be at the forefront of the mind.

Speaker:

And so when you meditate and you can do a very simple meditation, you can sit

Speaker:

there for five to 10 minutes, breathe through your nose and just simply

Speaker:

follow your breath and just watch as your thoughts arise and let them go.

Speaker:

Now it is much easier said than done, and it does take practice.

Speaker:

But the effects are incredible when you're done with a meditation after

Speaker:

doing some deep breathing and just watching your thoughts come and go.

Speaker:

You leave that meditation feeling so much more at peace.

Speaker:

And also in control of your mind and your day.

Speaker:

It allows me to really clarify what it is that I need to do

Speaker:

that day and how I need to do it.

Speaker:

It also allows me to make better decisions throughout my day,

Speaker:

because I'm not as stressed.

Speaker:

I'm much more relaxed and I'm able to think clearly.

Speaker:

These are just the benefits for the mind and the mind health.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

Uh, that's really what I'm kind of focusing on here

Speaker:

is the brain's performance.

Speaker:

Now, there are many other benefits here, um, you know, lowering

Speaker:

stress levels, lowering heart rate.

Speaker:

You know, honestly, mental health, it is a huge one for mental health.

Speaker:

Uh, it can literally be night and day difference from being anxious and,

Speaker:

uh, just nervous and, and, you know, even, uh, to a degree depressed.

Speaker:

Meditation can have some serious benefits.

Speaker:

And I'm speaking purely from experience here.

Speaker:

I am not, you know, using any kind of medical studies here.

Speaker:

I'm not a medical professional.

Speaker:

But I'm telling you from experience that meditation is incredible and your

Speaker:

re uh, your return on investment is extremely high for five to 10 minutes

Speaker:

of sitting there and breathing.

Speaker:

You will notice the benefits for the rest of your day, or at least the rest of,

Speaker:

you know, the first half of your day.

Speaker:

Uh, so I really, really highly recommend meditation and it's free.

Speaker:

You can literally sit down and there is no downside to it.

Speaker:

There is no side effect.

Speaker:

You're not going to.

Speaker:

You know, all of a sudden, randomly have diarrhea or whatever is going on with

Speaker:

all of these, uh, crazy commercials that they have for these pharmaceutical drugs.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

You can literally just sit down and breathe and watch your thoughts.

Speaker:

And there is no downside to it.

Speaker:

And you have only things to gain from doing meditation.

Speaker:

And it can really help you to think clearly and get your

Speaker:

brain working correctly, right?

Speaker:

Help you make correct and clear decisions, help you get rid of the brain fog and

Speaker:

allow you to not be a slave to your thoughts, but rather to be the master

Speaker:

of your thoughts in the master of your mind, and to be in control of what

Speaker:

you do and how you show up that day.

Speaker:

So highly, highly recommend meditation.

Speaker:

That is number four out of five.

Speaker:

And now we are here, ladies and gentlemen at the very last one

Speaker:

of episode five out of five.

Speaker:

And that is good.

Speaker:

Old sleep.

Speaker:

Get a little bit of that Sandman and your eye and just knock out.

Speaker:

That is literally, as I said, exercise was medicine sleep is.

Speaker:

Man it is, it is medicine on a whole new level.

Speaker:

Truly sleep is one of the most important things you can just

Speaker:

do for your overall health.

Speaker:

I mean, Let's leave the brain out of this for now.

Speaker:

I mean, Everything functions better with sleep.

Speaker:

And I love the example where people will say, okay, if you went.

Speaker:

A day without eating.

Speaker:

You'd be hungry at the end of the day, but you'd be fine.

Speaker:

If you went a day without water, you'd be pretty thirsty at the end of the day.

Speaker:

But you know, you'd still be fine if you want a day without exercising.

Speaker:

Well, you know, I mean, you might feel like, ah, I wish I had a workout

Speaker:

in, I would feel better, you know?

Speaker:

But if you go 24 hours without sleeping.

Speaker:

That is something that you're definitely going to feel.

Speaker:

I mean, it is so, so necessary.

Speaker:

I mean, if you think about it from like an evolutionary standpoint, Why

Speaker:

would we literally go unconscious for eight hours of the day and be

Speaker:

so vulnerable to predators, right?

Speaker:

Like, let's say we're taking this back to caveman days.

Speaker:

Why, why would we.

Speaker:

Literally go unconscious for eight hours, right?

Speaker:

It's because it's that important.

Speaker:

We have not like evolved out of it or found a reason to not have it, or

Speaker:

at least become more efficient at it.

Speaker:

Because it is literally that important.

Speaker:

So without sleep, when we're thinking in terms of our brain

Speaker:

and our brains performance,

Speaker:

You cannot form or maintain the pathways in your brain that let

Speaker:

you learn and create new memories.

Speaker:

Plus without sleep, it becomes harder to concentrate and respond quickly.

Speaker:

So without sleep.

Speaker:

You cannot create new memories.

Speaker:

There was a point where your brain is just it's had enough, will not create new

Speaker:

memories and plus without sleep, it is very hard to concentrate and very hard

Speaker:

to respond quickly, which for those of you who have stayed up over 24 hours,

Speaker:

I'm sure you have noticed these effects.

Speaker:

And plus sleep helps to see meant in, and I'm doing air

Speaker:

quotes here, new information.

Speaker:

I did the.

Speaker:

Air quotes around the sea meant there.

Speaker:

Um, it's not actually obviously cementing, but it is helping to really, uh, you know,

Speaker:

root it and anchor it into your brain.

Speaker:

It's helping to get this new information and allow it to stay in the brain.

Speaker:

Not just be something that you heard and then just went in one

Speaker:

ear and out the other, right.

Speaker:

This is making you.

Speaker:

Really grab a hold and a grasp of the information that you have

Speaker:

obtained throughout the day.

Speaker:

So you essentially become less efficient and basically a dumber

Speaker:

version of yourself without sleep.

Speaker:

Uh, and there is science backing this up.

Speaker:

So for example, Being awake for 17 hours straight.

Speaker:

This was a study.

Speaker:

Is similar to having a blood alcohol concentration of point.

Speaker:

Zero 5%.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

Now that is for some countries the limit at which they will not

Speaker:

allow you to drive a vehicle.

Speaker:

At 24 hours of staying awake, it is similar to having a

Speaker:

blood alcohol percent of 0.1%.

Speaker:

This is insane.

Speaker:

This is no alcohol consumption.

Speaker:

Just being sleep deprived.

Speaker:

If you don't believe me, this is on the CDC website.

Speaker:

I do not believe that they conducted the research, but

Speaker:

they have it on their website.

Speaker:

So in this study, they literally gave people a test at 17 hours without sleep.

Speaker:

And the test score scores were equivalent or worse than people at the.

Speaker:

Uh, blood alcohol content level of 0.05 and then at 24 hours without sleep,

Speaker:

the results were equivalent or worse.

Speaker:

Do people with a BAC of point, 1%, really wild stuff here.

Speaker:

Sleep is.

Speaker:

Like I said, incredibly important.

Speaker:

I cannot say enough.

Speaker:

Good things about getting sleep.

Speaker:

In fact, just to hammer home, this point here, if you haven't slept your ability to

Speaker:

learn new things could drop by up to 40%.

Speaker:

So therefore if you're pulling an all nighter to study for a

Speaker:

test or whatever, it may be.

Speaker:

That may not be the best idea because your ability to effectively learn.

Speaker:

Is greatly diminished.

Speaker:

So lack of sleep affects a part of your brain called the hippocampus,

Speaker:

which is key for making new memories.

Speaker:

So if you are a student currently, or if you were just studying something, do

Speaker:

not put it off to the very last minute.

Speaker:

Try to be.

Speaker:

Not one of those procrastinators and study ahead of time so that you can get

Speaker:

quality sleep and allow that information to be cemented into your brain.

Speaker:

For further use in the future when you need a recall on it.

Speaker:

Instead of trying to pull all nighter and then recall on those

Speaker:

memories that hardly stuck.

Speaker:

Uh, that you went over hours and hours and hours.

Speaker:

Didn't get any sleep.

Speaker:

And now, not only are you doing terrible on a test, but now you're

Speaker:

tired and your performance is just not going to be what it should be.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Get sleep.

Speaker:

It's going to be so beneficial for your brain and beneficial for your entire body.

Speaker:

Now, I know that was number five, but I had to throw in a

Speaker:

couple extras just for you guys.

Speaker:

Cause you know, I can't just stop there.

Speaker:

There's too many things.

Speaker:

I'll probably do another podcast.

Speaker:

Um, on this same topic with other forms of improving your brain function.

Speaker:

But the ones that I'm going to highlight here very quickly

Speaker:

is going to be hydration.

Speaker:

So very simply staying hydrated can improve your brain function.

Speaker:

So if you are feeling a little bit, brain dead,

Speaker:

Go get a glass of water.

Speaker:

It is sometimes that simple.

Speaker:

I have actually experienced this myself where I have just had my

Speaker:

brain not working at its top level.

Speaker:

I run over, grab a glass of water and literally within a few minutes,

Speaker:

I feel a little bit more awake and ready to just respond more effectively.

Speaker:

Uh, so staying hydrated is a great one.

Speaker:

Another one is going to be spirulina.

Speaker:

Now, if you don't know what spirulina is, I have multiple episodes on

Speaker:

spirulina with Katherine Arnstein and she is the founder of energy bits.

Speaker:

And.

Speaker:

Uh, they are a company that provides spirulina and chlorella.

Speaker:

It is the highest level of spirulina and chlorella.

Speaker:

I personally will not recommend another brand on this podcast except

Speaker:

for Organifi because they have a spirulina in their green juice, but

Speaker:

literally the spirulina and chlorella from energy bits is incredible.

Speaker:

And spirulina has been shown to promote the activation of what's called B D N

Speaker:

F or brain derived neurotropic factor.

Speaker:

Which I know BDNF.

Speaker:

Uh, BDNF does a few different things, but for the purposes purposes of this episode,

Speaker:

it is essential for learning and memory.

Speaker:

So spirulina is one of those things that I also take daily.

Speaker:

It is great for the brain as well as many, many other things in the body.

Speaker:

If you do want to get some spirulina, all have these show notes, uh, with the

Speaker:

link to a 20% discount code as well.

Speaker:

Uh, that is at energy bits and highly, highly recommend cannot say enough.

Speaker:

Good things about them.

Speaker:

And last, but not least is going to be an ice bath.

Speaker:

Ice baths are super difficult, but they will turn your brain on like five cups

Speaker:

of coffee without any of the jitters.

Speaker:

It is insane.

Speaker:

How.

Speaker:

Awake and ready to tackle the day you can be after.

Speaker:

35 degree ice bath.

Speaker:

It doesn't have to be that cold.

Speaker:

It can be.

Speaker:

Um, you know, 45 as well.

Speaker:

Whatever gets your body uncomfortable.

Speaker:

But getting cold decimal, great things for the body and the brain releases,

Speaker:

dopamine and neuro epinephrin, which is just going to turn your

Speaker:

brain on like a freaking light bulb.

Speaker:

You are going to be ready to tackle the day after one of those.

Speaker:

Um, so I had to include these three because they're very simple

Speaker:

things to do, and they have really, really high up benefits as well.

Speaker:

Unfortunately, they didn't make the five.

Speaker:

Uh, thing.

Speaker:

You know, the five lists here, but still decided I'd include them.

Speaker:

So anyways, that is going to do it for the list today on getting

Speaker:

your brain to function better.

Speaker:

But go ahead and stay tuned for the breakdown of this episode, as

Speaker:

well as the steps that you can take to put all of this into action.

Speaker:

So take all this information that I just went over in detail, and we're

Speaker:

going to really put it into a concise.

Speaker:

Just few steps that you can go ahead and start taking action on.

Speaker:

Two day.

Speaker:

So that you can take all the knowledge that's in here, and I know it can be

Speaker:

a little bit wordy, so we're going to make it very simple for you and

Speaker:

allow you to just have a few steps that will allow you to take this

Speaker:

knowledge and put it into your life.

Speaker:

Put it into action and get your brain working better.

Speaker:

Alrighty.

Speaker:

Y'all here we go.

Speaker:

All right, let's go ahead and break down.

Speaker:

Today's episode.

Speaker:

So we started off with lion's mane.

Speaker:

It's bright for the brain, very noticeable, but you have to continue

Speaker:

taking it because it will literally diminish over time the effects at least.

Speaker:

Uh, so you will definitely have to take this, uh, consistently for.

Speaker:

Uh, period of time to really notice the effects and continue taking it

Speaker:

to continue noticing those effects.

Speaker:

Uh, but it will literally protect your brains neurons

Speaker:

and is one of the brain health.

Speaker:

Things that I will recommend to everyone that asked me for my top

Speaker:

recommendation for turning on their brain and also protecting their brain right.

Speaker:

Protecting the health of their brain.

Speaker:

Number two is going to be exercise.

Speaker:

Exercise increases, blood circulation can.

Speaker:

It can improve your mood and make you feel better about yourself and it can

Speaker:

help you to literally have better focus.

Speaker:

Number three is going to be methylene blue.

Speaker:

Now I know it sounds weird and I know.

Speaker:

It's, you know, an originally was a dye that was used to treat malaria,

Speaker:

but it has a lot of research behind it.

Speaker:

And it is very good for turning your brain on.

Speaker:

It's something that I do not take all the time.

Speaker:

I take it about once a week maximum, but I take it for the times when I

Speaker:

really know that I need my brain turned on and I need something that is going

Speaker:

to absolutely be effective and is something that I can truly rely on.

Speaker:

So that's methylene blue.

Speaker:

Number four is meditation.

Speaker:

Don't knock it before you try it.

Speaker:

It will calm your mind and allow for better.

Speaker:

Decision-making truly one of my favorite practices.

Speaker:

Number five and the last one here.

Speaker:

Is sleep.

Speaker:

Literally one of the most important things you can do for your body and

Speaker:

definitely most important things you can do for learning and memory forming.

Speaker:

Without sleep.

Speaker:

You are literally dumber.

Speaker:

So please go get some sleep.

Speaker:

Now, the other three that I mentioned very quickly were spirulina,

Speaker:

hydration and cold plunges.

Speaker:

All three of those are going to be great for your mental health and help

Speaker:

you to just function at a higher level and have your brain turned on and

Speaker:

ready to perform at its peak level.

Speaker:

Now let's go ahead and give you some actionable steps you can take today.

Speaker:

Go get your sleep.

Speaker:

Go meditate.

Speaker:

An exercise.

Speaker:

And on top of that, you can also stay hydrated.

Speaker:

I love to give people.

Speaker:

Things that they can do that are absolutely free and

Speaker:

very accessible to everyone.

Speaker:

I want health and wellness to not be something that is reserved for

Speaker:

the wealthy or for the people that are lucky enough to know about it.

Speaker:

These are simple things that we all have access to, and

Speaker:

we can all start doing today.

Speaker:

And in my opinion, sleeping very well getting, you know, whether it's six

Speaker:

to eight hours, it depends on the person, but getting the correct amount

Speaker:

of sleep for you getting five to 10 minutes of meditation and getting some.

Speaker:

Exercise, literally any form of exercise, it can be a walk.

Speaker:

It does not have to be anything crazy, but just get some exercise, get a

Speaker:

little meditation and get really good sleep and go ahead and stay hydrated.

Speaker:

These are going to really turn your brain on and have massive impacts on.

Speaker:

Allowing your brain to perform at its highest level, but also for the

Speaker:

health and the longevity of your brain and the performance of your brain.

Speaker:

Now, moving in to the second step.

Speaker:

Go ahead and try out these three different products.

Speaker:

If you feel inclined to that's lion's mane, methylene, blue and spirulina.

Speaker:

Now, remember lion's maintenance spirulina.

Speaker:

You can take out all times.

Speaker:

Anytime of the day can literally take them multiple times a day.

Speaker:

They are foods.

Speaker:

Lion's mane is a mushroom.

Speaker:

Spirulina is an algae.

Speaker:

So you can take as much of them as you pretty much want at any time of the day.

Speaker:

And you're only going to reap more and more benefits.

Speaker:

Lion's mane is truly one.

Speaker:

One of those things that is incredible for the brain and for

Speaker:

the protection of the brain, right?

Speaker:

For the health of the brain spirulina as well, falls under that category.

Speaker:

It's a little bit less specific in targeting the brain.

Speaker:

Now there are properties of spirulina that are incredible for the brain.

Speaker:

But it also does a lot of other things like having 40 plus vitamins and

Speaker:

minerals, which are really just essential for the performance of your body.

Speaker:

And when it comes to methylene blue, if you need something that is

Speaker:

going to turn your brain on quickly.

Speaker:

Go ahead and try methylene blue.

Speaker:

Now, like I said, they do have an option with nicotine in it.

Speaker:

If you are someone who has a problem with smoking, then it's not something I'm going

Speaker:

to recommend to you, but it is your body.

Speaker:

So feel free to try the different products that they have.

Speaker:

But definitely the methylene blue is something that is

Speaker:

really great for the brain.

Speaker:

It has a lot of studies done on it and it is something that I use.

Speaker:

At maximum once a week.

Speaker:

And I only use it for the times when I really need my brain

Speaker:

to be performing at top level.

Speaker:

And it's especially something I'll take, if I am.

Speaker:

Uh, you know, kind of having a very brain fog type day.

Speaker:

So those are going to be the two steps you can start doing today.

Speaker:

I know there's multiple things under there, but let's really, if you take

Speaker:

anything, just start simple here.

Speaker:

Get good sleep.

Speaker:

Five to 10 minutes of meditation, a day, exercise and stay hydrated.

Speaker:

It's so simple.

Speaker:

You do not have to overcomplicate these.

Speaker:

Just get to bed at a good time and wake up at a consistent time.

Speaker:

Meditate for five to 10 minutes, you can literally sit there and

Speaker:

just breathe with your eyes closed.

Speaker:

Exercise.

Speaker:

I don't care.

Speaker:

What kind of exercise you do?

Speaker:

Just do it and stay hydrated.

Speaker:

First thing in the morning, get yourself some water mid day, get

Speaker:

yourself some water end of the day, get yourself some water.

Speaker:

Those are the easiest ways to just keep those at top of the mind.

Speaker:

And then if you want to go this step further, get yourself some lion's

Speaker:

mane, get yourself some spirulina, and then maybe if you really need it, get

Speaker:

yourself some methylene blue as well.

Speaker:

And if you wanted to throw in those other three, I'm just

Speaker:

going to add these for you guys.

Speaker:

Cold bath as well.

Speaker:

Uh, can be added into there.

Speaker:

I'm sorry, not three.

Speaker:

It's just one.

Speaker:

Oh, you left out the one, but those are going to be the steps that you can take.

Speaker:

So these are the actionable steps.

Speaker:

This is the breakdown of the episode.

Speaker:

Go ahead and take these, apply them to your life.

Speaker:

And if you find any value in any of these things, please

Speaker:
