Nathan:

25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

Jesus. Matthew 5:25, 26. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 15 of 30 Days of Growing. Practice being agreeable. Jesus’ words are full of wisdom. He certainly isn’t talking about becoming a person who never says no—the doormat that everybody wipes their feet on. But he is saying, “Come on folks, use at least a little common sense. Don’t press for the sharpest bargain.” So many things in life would literally be cheaper if this council had been followed. Imagine what would happen if just a small fraction of lawsuits were settled in a civil manner before ever reaching litigation? Of course, you probably aren’t facing court proceedings, but in your every skirmishes with the spouse or boss, are you willing to work for amenable solutions, instead of escalating things by insisting on one-sided solution? There’s certainly a place for insisting on a specific, non-negotiable solution—but there are also plenty of times where loss could be avoided by looking for ways to settle disagreements amicably. And, if you’re in the wrong, stop being stubborn already, own up to it and make it right!!! Now.
