The Dental Business Podcast enters a new era with its rebranding, emphasizing a dual focus on clinical excellence and business proficiency. Understanding that the traditional dental curriculum often neglects essential business principles, we aim to provide our listeners with a comprehensive toolkit that encompasses financial management, effective marketing strategies, and operational efficiencies. The first episode articulates the motivations behind this transformation, highlighting the critical need for dentists to gain a thorough understanding of the business side of their practices. By sharing relevant stories from dental professionals who have successfully navigated the complexities of practice ownership, we provide valuable lessons that can be applied immediately. Throughout the year, we anticipate delivering a diverse array of content, including expert interviews and practical workshops, to facilitate continuous learning and growth among our audience. Our ultimate goal is to create a resource that not only informs but also inspires actionable change, enabling dentists to enhance their business acumen and achieve their professional aspirations.
Takeaways:
Foreign.
Speaker A:Hey, everyone.
Speaker A:Welcome.
Speaker A:And if you've been listening for a while, you may remember I've mentioned this rebrand a couple times already.
Speaker A:I started a couple early announcements as we were getting everything lined up behind the scenes, but now that it's the new year, we're making it official.
Speaker A:Because this isn't just a new name.
Speaker A:It's bigger, with more support, more tools, a stronger focus on the business side of dentistry.
Speaker A:So, welcome to the Dental Business Podcast.
Speaker A:Now, I know some of you might be thinking, another business podcast, don't we have enough of those?
Speaker A:And yes, there are business podcasts out there.
Speaker A:But here's what I've learned over the years of being in this space, talking to hundreds of dentists and watching practices thrive and others struggle.
Speaker A:The gap isn't the clinical knowledge.
Speaker A:The gap is business acumen.
Speaker A:Most dentists I meet are great clinicians, but that's not the problem.
Speaker A:The problem is that ownership comes with a whole second job, the business side, and nobody really trained you for that.
Speaker A:You didn't go to dental school to learn how to run payroll, read a profit and loss statement, manage overhead, hire and lead a team, or plan your exit.
Speaker A:You went to become a dentist.
Speaker A:But if you own a practice or you want to own one, you've got to know the business side just as well as the clinical side or it'll catch up with you.
Speaker A:So that's what we're doing in 20, 26 and beyond.
Speaker A:This show isn't just business talk.
Speaker A:It's practical.
Speaker A:It's numbers you can use.
Speaker A:It's steps that you can take right away.
Speaker A:And it's real stories from Dennis who figured it out, and Dennis who learned the hard way.
Speaker A:If you're an owner, I want you taking home what you should be taking home.
Speaker A:If you're an associate, I want you understanding how ownership really works before you go jump into a new practice.
Speaker A:And if you're thinking about buying, growing, or selling one day, I want you ready.
Speaker A:Let me tell you why this rebrand is happening now and why it matters more than ever.
Speaker A:The dental industry is changing fast.
Speaker A:DSOs are still acquiring practices.
Speaker A:Private equity is still pouring money into dentistry patients.
Speaker A:Expectations are higher.
Speaker A:Competition is tougher.
Speaker A:Insurance reimbursements are tighter.
Speaker A:Overhead keeps climbing, technology costs keep increasing.
Speaker A:Team pay is going up.
Speaker A:And if you're not running your practice like a business, you're leaving money on the table.
Speaker A:A lot of money.
Speaker A:I talk to Dennis every week who are producing a million dollars or more, but taking home less than they should.
Speaker A:We're seeing practices sitting at 70, 80.
Speaker A:And yes, I've even seen overhead at 90% overhead when there should be at 60.
Speaker A:I hear from associates who want to buy a practice but have no idea where to start.
Speaker A:And I meet owners who are burned out, not because they don't love dentistry, but because they're drowning in the business side.
Speaker A:And here's the thing.
Speaker A:These aren't bad dentists.
Speaker A:They're great clinicians.
Speaker A:They just never learned the business side or don't want to be part of the business side.
Speaker A:No one taught them how to read a P and L statement, how to negotiate with a lab, how to structure an associate agreement, how to market effectively, how to build a strong team, how to plan for an exit.
Speaker A:That's what this podcast is about.
Speaker A:Filling that gap, giving you the business education that dental schools didn't provide.
Speaker A: he Dental business podcast in: Speaker A:In the first quarter, it'll be two episodes per month while we build the momentum.
Speaker A:Then starting in April, we're going to be going to weekly podcasts.
Speaker A:Every episode will be 30 to 40 minutes, long enough to go deep, short enough for you to listen to your commute, or between patients.
Speaker A:We're all we're also mixing up the format.
Speaker A:You'll get solo episodes like this one, where I break down topics in detail.
Speaker A:You'll get interviews with successful practice owners, CPAs who specialize in dentistry, practice brokers or practice consultants, coaches, financial planners, lenders and attorneys, people who have been there and done it.
Speaker A:You'll get conversational episodes where I bring on an expert and we have just a real discussion about a topic.
Speaker A:And you'll get storytelling episodes where we dive into real practices that worked, what didn't, and what you can learn from both.
Speaker A:The topics we're covering is going to include financial planning, tax strategies, marketing that actually works.
Speaker A:Practice transitions, buying your first practice, selling your practice, team building, leadership, overhead management, real estate, equipment decisions, associate relationships, partnerships, valuations, banking relationships, merchant services and I don't need to keep going, but there's going to be a lot more.
Speaker A:Every topic is chosen because it's something dentists actually struggle with.
Speaker A:Nothing theoretical, nothing academic.
Speaker A:This is just practical, real world business solutions.
Speaker A:Coming up this quarter, we've got strong content lined up.
Speaker A:In a couple weeks we're going to be interviewing Dr. Ryan Brunworth, who has sold his practice two times and now has run into a disability situation where we've got a CPA coming up to talk about Tax strategies that could save you $50,000 or more.
Speaker A:This year, we're doing a deep dive into overhead management, and we're hearing from a dentist who just went through a practice acquisition and is going to share what they've learned.
Speaker A: I'm really excited about for: Speaker A:Alongside this rebrand, we're building something that goes beyond the podcast.
Speaker A:We're building communities where Dennis can actually implement what they're learning.
Speaker A:And we're moving this experience over to a platform that will be announced because we want it organized, easy to use and built for real conversations, not just content.
Speaker A:Here's the truth.
Speaker A:The podcast can teach you a lot, but 30 or 40 minutes at a time isn't always enough to help you put it into practice or into action.
Speaker A:Most dentists don't just want ideas.
Speaker A:They want the tools.
Speaker A:They want templates.
Speaker A:They want examples.
Speaker A:You want to ask questions about your situation specifically, and you want to connect with other dentists who are trying to run a better practice as well.
Speaker A:That's what these communities are for.
Speaker A:We're still finalizing the exact structure, including the total number of communities and how everything will be organized, but it will be built for dentists at different stages.
Speaker A:Whether you're an associate, a newer owner, a multi location owner, or someone planning a transition, you'll be able to plug in to the right place.
Speaker A:And our goal is to have it live by February, March at the latest.
Speaker A:So I hope that you're going to be excited about what is up to.
Speaker A:What is coming up.
Speaker A:What you'll get inside of this in these communities is going to be something even more exciting.
Speaker A:Let me give you a clear picture of what these communities are going to do for you when you join.
Speaker A:You won't just get more content, you'll get support and tools plus a place to stay consistent.
Speaker A:Here are a few examples of what you'll have Access to a Deep Dive companion content that goes with the podcast episode and here's how it how to do it actually version so after the podcast you'll take the Deep Dive podcast.
Speaker A:Downloadable tools like worksheets, checklists, calculators, templates and guides.
Speaker A:Live Q and A and office hours so you can bring in real questions and get real answers from the professionals.
Speaker A:Workshops and trainings focused on implementation and not just theory.
Speaker A:Community discussions with other dentists working through the same things.
Speaker A:Overhead hiring, systems growth, buying, selling and planning ahead.
Speaker A:The whole point is simple.
Speaker A:Instead of trying to figure this out alone, you'll have a place to learn, to ask, and to Take action.
Speaker A:And just so you know, we're still finalizing the pricing and the exact setup, so I'm not sharing those details today, but I can tell you that we're building this to serve Dennis at different stages with different levels of support.
Speaker A:And again, our goal is to have it up and running by February or March at the very latest.
Speaker A:And when you open the doors, and when we open the doors, I should say we're also going to do something special for the first group that joins.
Speaker A:We are going to have a founding member opportunity.
Speaker A:Founding members will get early access, a founding member badge inside the community and business resources we're building together templates, spreadsheets and tools that you can use right away.
Speaker A:And I want to keep this honest and simple.
Speaker A:We're not announcing pricing today because we're still finalizing everything and making sure that we can deliver on everything at a really, really high level.
Speaker A:What I can tell you is this, with the founding members, you'll get a special funding rate that's locked in for 24 months as long as you stay active.
Speaker A:After that, it renews at whenever the current rate is at the time.
Speaker A:I'm not going to lock in forever.
Speaker A:But I do want you to reward, I do want to reward the dentists who, who join with us early and help us shape from this ground up.
Speaker A:If you want first access when we launch, like February or in March, email [email protected] and I'll tell you you want to sign up for this early list.
Speaker A:The second we go live.
Speaker A:You'll be the first to know and I'm very excited to get this started for you.
Speaker A:Let me share my vision for what I want Dental Business Podcast to become.
Speaker A:I want this to be the place where dentists come to master business side of the practice.
Speaker A:Not just consume content, but actually implement and actually see results, actually transform the their practices.
Speaker A:I want this to be a place where a new graduate can come and learn what they need before becoming their first having their first practice.
Speaker A:Where an established owner can learn how to scale, where someone planning an exit can learn how to maximize practice value, where associates can understand what they're worth, where burned out dentists can get a get the business under control and enjoy dentistry again.
Speaker A:I don't want this to be just another podcast you listen to and forget.
Speaker A:I want it to be a resource you come back to and a community that you actually use.
Speaker A:And I'm committed to making this happen.
Speaker A:I'm putting in the work, I'm bringing in the experts.
Speaker A:I'm building the tools, I'm building the platform, but I need you to be a part of it too.
Speaker A:Whether you join the community or just listen to the free podcast, I want you to engage, leave reviews, share episodes, join the conversation, ask questions, tell me what topics you want to hear this year.
Speaker A:This is a two way street.
Speaker A:All right, let me tell you what's coming next and give you a few action items.
Speaker A:In two weeks, episode two is going to be dealing with Dr. Brunworth and his transitions that he's had with his two practices and also the disability that he had to run through.
Speaker A:I'm going to walk through what he did, the real moves that changed the numbers, and the lessons that you can apply for your own offices.
Speaker A:Whether you're buying your first practice or trying to grow the one that you have, here's what I want you to do today.
Speaker A:First, subscribe to the podcast so you don't miss episodes.
Speaker A:Second, if you want early access to the communities launched in February or March, email [email protected] and get on the list.
Speaker A:Third, if you got value from this episode, leave a review.
Speaker A:Reviews help other dentists find the show.
Speaker A:And fourth, share this with one dentist friend who needs the business side explained in a real way.
Speaker A:If you want to connect with me, I'm active on social media.
Speaker A:Send me a message on LinkedIn.
Speaker A:Tell me what you want to hear about this year.
Speaker A:I read every message and I am ready to hear your thoughts.
Speaker A:Thanks for being here for the premiere episode of Dental Business Podcasts.
Speaker A:I'm excited about what we're building together.
Speaker A:Remember, you didn't go to dental school to struggle with the business side.
Speaker A:You went to change lives and build great practices.
Speaker A:Let's make that happen together.
Speaker A:Until next time, keep building your dream practice.
