Alien Abduction (:

[00:00:00] Scott: Welcome everyone to The Last Video Store Clerk's podcast with Frank and Scott. The days of blockbuster Hollywood and the independent video store are over, but searching the shelves for that special overlooked movie will never end. The one that really sticks with you forever. Let's drown ourselves in a sea of streaming services, and ask the question, what the fuck is that?

[:

[00:00:28] Frank: Store Clerks. Did

[:

[00:00:39] Scott: Okay. Did you? Nah. Oh. Was it on something? Was it on TBS? No. Are you watching TBS?

[:

[00:00:57] Frank: It was like Office Administrator. Or like front desk person. She was supposed to act surprised when like a, somebody uh, intimidating was calling. Funniest worst thing I've seen in years. It was some random ass true crime that you've never heard of. Like it was a reenactment? Yeah, but they had reenactments.

[:

[00:01:37] Frank: I couldn't stop, but yeah. I mean, did you watch anything cool?

[:

[00:01:45] Frank: Is that the guy who had the song about making banana pancakes?

[:

[00:01:58] Scott: Wow. Anna Kendrick was in it. The Lonely Island, uh, produced it. Produced the movie. Do you know what

[:

[00:02:05] Scott: uh, Hot Rod.

[:

[00:02:07] Scott: know what else they did? Uh, they were on SNL. Tim Meadows was on SNL. Do

[:

[00:02:13] Scott: The Dewey Cox story.

[:

[00:02:21] Frank: I mean, you

[:

[00:02:27] Frank: Fuckin Tim Meadows, though, man. That's gold. You know, he's in Mean Girls. He's also a pop star. It's a movie with these guys. Uh, Connor for Real. But

[:

[00:02:44] Scott: He gets picked up by Andy Sandberg, who plays himself in the movie. And then taken to a place where they're like, do you want to play a game where you'll be hunted by people and you'll get this money? And uh, he can only be killed if he's alone. He tries to be with a person all the time, which is very hard to do.

[:

[00:03:07] Frank: newer

[:

[00:03:19] Frank: you watch?

[:

[00:03:28] Frank: Yeah, I finally got the vid.

[:

[00:03:38] Scott: And you got COVID finger. I did not get COVID

[:

[00:03:45] Frank: You know me. I don't need things like that in my head. Like, cause I'm like, I'm gonna be the one to end up with fucking COVID toe. You're like, my nails hurt. That shit looked gross. I'd be like, my fucking big toe's pussing again. You know

[:

[00:04:01] Scott: They made it a thing. I don't believe in COVID. Toe. Someone's gonna sample that. But it

[:

[00:04:23] Frank: That was the best thing you watched? No, the best thing I watched, hands down, was No Escape with Ray Liotta. Oh man. I finally made it. Amazon Prime got me a while back because it was like no escape and I was like dude I just told you about it recently cuz I was like when I first years ago Netflix It was there there there there never watched it.

[:

[00:04:55] Scott: proper

[:

[00:05:02] Frank: No escape is like a good like sci fi Kind of that's you know what? I mean? Like we're in a torn earth like all prisons corporation Runs the world. They can make money. You know, helicopters. You know, this fuckin warden's got his own private island where the prisoners fight it out. You know, Ernie Hudson, Lance Henriksen.

[:

[00:05:35] Scott: There is, oh right, there's more than one. Yeah.

[:

[00:05:43] Frank: They're fucking Hollywood. Yeah, I don't know. You know. But, and then, do you remember the weapon that he steals from, like, the Outsiders?

[:

[00:05:55] Frank: like it was on the cover, like, the original

[:

[00:05:58] Scott: Cause

[:

haven't

[:

[00:06:19] Scott: Did you watch the trailer with Conan O'Brien in it? I don't think so. Oh man, I'll show it to, I'll show you a trailer afterwards. Okay, yeah, show me. This was the funniest movie I have seen in so long. Like, I was like crying, laughing. My, like, my lungs hurt from laughing. Like, I just like, I was so out of breath by the end of the movie.

[:

[00:06:42] Frank: got COVID. I need to watch it again. Yeah. I mean, you know, there's a It's on Peacock. There's a COVID cloudiness. So fucking funny. Like there's a lot I can't tell you about the last couple of weeks, but yeah, No Escape was good.

[:

[00:06:57] Scott: watch. It'd be really funny if you stop again. At the same time.

[:

[00:07:12] Scott: know.

[:

[00:07:21] Frank: plenty, plenty. Um, remember one of the episodes I talked about the, the Phoenix lights one, there's like three of them that happened within so many years of each other.

[:

[00:07:45] Scott: They're all in Arizona?

[:

[00:07:48] Frank: Boring. They're in the mountains. Every one, it's like, you know, it's the desert and the mountains in Arizona. Yeah, I mean, it's like the hills have eyes, but not really. Like

[:

[00:08:02] Frank: The hills are gray.

[:

[00:08:06] Frank: It's a haboob. Haboob? I don't think that's what

[:

[00:08:10] Scott: Yeah, it's a sandstorm. It's a haboob. Haboob? Sandstorm. It's a sandstorm. How many alien abduction movies have you watched? Handheld found footage? Yeah, how many do you think? I bet I've seen at least 10. 10? 10 found footage movies about alien abductions.

[:

[00:08:32] Frank: Did it have Will Patton in it? Holy shit. No, it had Casey, Casey Jones. It was Will Patton or Casey Jones was in it. Remember, it was one that was like, Oh, what was the name of it? Not Dark Skies, but uh, The Fourth Kind.

[:

[00:08:49] Frank: look up found footage, it pops up in the category, in that

[:

[00:08:52] Scott: Yeah, some of it is actual footage though, is it not? Real actual footage. Oh. It's like part of the thing. Uh. Bummer. That I just ruined for you. I've never seen it. Oh, I've seen it a couple times. I've meant to watch it a bunch of times. I think you told me you were like, that one is ugh.

[:

[00:09:10] Frank: Yeah. Yeah.

[:

[00:09:27] Frank: this? Was that the one where the sequel had Starbuck?

[:

[00:09:34] Frank: And again, I will say, I only watched Oculus once.

[:

[00:09:42] Frank: Well, and now it's been

[:

[00:09:49] Frank: Nah, man, something about, uh, the alien ones. My found footage February.

[:

[00:09:55] Frank: February. It's got a nice ring to it. And this is something that could be done for years. I've got years of content for found footage. I'm, I'm a fucking pro.

[:

[00:10:09] Scott: Yeah,

[:

[00:10:19] Scott: son?

[:

[00:10:28] Frank: This is a found footage movie too? It's a found footage one about a house under a lake in like France or

[:

[00:10:36] Frank: yeah. And I was like, yeah, you should check it out. It's not horrible. It's different. It's kind of. It's a house underwater that's haunted.

[:

[00:10:48] Frank: As I watched this movie last night, and knowing that I made you watch it, I was, I can't wait to hear what you have to say. These movies have, like, cult followings, I'd say. And, I mean, there are a group of us that like these. It's very rare, though. Nobody ever knows these movies if I try to talk about them.

[:

[00:11:07] Scott: you know! Do you find other people that Are this in the found footage movie?

[:

[00:11:19] Scott: You're like the worst expert

[:

[00:11:31] Scott: specific. It is. A very specific set of skills. But

[:

[00:11:38] Frank: There's some spider webs. I stretch out a little. But definitely, I know you can't even say it's obscure. Because it's like, not obscure. It's just not, well. It's not welcomed. It's just like, no. We don't, don't give a fuck about those movies, man. They're shit. Fuck all you. I love them. But yeah, so this is kicking it off.

[:

[00:12:15] Scott: That should be interesting. Uh, it depends. Is interesting a southern thing? Sometimes I'm a dick and I enunciate things. Yeah. To be a dick. Which one has

[:

[00:12:24] Frank: Is it interesting or interesting? It's gotta be interesting. I

[:

[00:12:30] Frank: Comes natural to the, whatever tries to come out of me here and there.

[:

[00:12:36] Frank: And I think I always try and, like, like you're saying, like, say

[:

[00:12:43] Frank: Like, I have trouble saying February lately.

[:

[00:12:50] Frank: New Bronzefuls! Come on, man, when we were young, you used to go down to Guadalupe. There's,

[:

[00:13:05] Frank: Um, well, the footage we're about to discuss is part of Project Blue Book.

[:

[00:13:29] Scott: There was like an owl with, when the experts were talking about it. Yet another found footage movie that started with experts finished with the exact same clips of the experts for some reason. They weren't the exact

[:

[00:13:41] Scott: were just longer.

[:

[00:13:51] Frank: went all the way. You went, so you went past the credits? Yeah. Okay, I didn't know if you were gonna catch it. The camera of a young autistic child was found in a field following what is known as the Brown Mountain Lights incident in North Carolina. The Morris family are on a perfectly normal camping trip, wearing the wrong shoes and building a weak ass fire when the kids spot lights in the sky.

[:

[00:14:10] Scott: good. Pretty

[:

[00:14:23] Scott: They're tall greys.

[:

[00:14:35] Frank: which one? The Reptilians? It would be hard to come by. I mean, I think Land of the Lost did it best.

[:

[00:14:45] Scott: It gets real convoluted when you start explaining it. It's one of those things. The reptilians, you know? And then you get into like a whole X Files and like the people with the different faces and fringe and Really bad

[:

[00:14:59] Frank: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, outside of Land of the Lost, what? Old Star Trek? A creature from the Black Lagoon? Is that, that's Reptilian. Um,

[:

[00:15:12] Frank: the water one that I'm thinking about, uh, Guillermo, the,

[:

[00:15:20] Scott: The Fishfucker

[:

[00:15:26] Scott: it's not. Is that the same actor in both those movies? It might be. Those are both Guillermo Del Toro. Yeah, Hellboy. It is? 3. Oh my god, why didn't that even click? Yeah,

[:

[00:15:41] Frank: I should get some sort of punishment for that. I just feel like a dipshit. Cause I'm like, oh what?

[:

[00:16:03] Scott: is an awful movie that I liked quite a bit called The Row. What was The Row about? It was a sorority. Serial murders. Not a good movie. Oh my god. Pretty bad. Ooh. I may have enjoyed

[:

[00:16:25] Scott: who does he play in that movie detective Cole?

[:

[00:16:34] Frank: was in all my children It's got a guy from all my children in an MMA fighter from the UFC.

[:

[00:16:49] Frank: Yeah, but I mean that just goes to show you because what we watched tonight.

[:

[00:16:54] Scott: No, everybody had their own name this movie stars Catherine Sigmundson as Katie Morris. Corey Ede as Corey Morris. Riley Polanski as Riley Morris. Jeff Bowser as Sean. Peter Holden as Peter Morris.

[:

[00:17:15] Scott: They were just like, this guy's not Jeff.

[:

[00:17:18] Frank: He's not a Jeff? So, and who was that? Oh, he was the hillbilly.

[:

[00:17:30] Frank: I was torn. I was like, is he doing really good? Or is he the weakest

[:

[00:17:37] Scott: Okay. For sure. Interesting. The most talent. Uh, I also found that this movie killed off the worst actor first, and then moved on down the line. The dad. For the most part. Yeah. Well,

[:

[00:17:53] Scott: you can't be a dick in a science fiction universe. Or you're done for. Like, that is rule number one.

[:

February.

[:

[00:18:18] Scott: ha ha ha ha.

[:

[00:18:31] Frank: it up. I first watched this while working as a security guard during a daytime shift behind a desk in the lobby of an office building.

[:

[00:18:37] Scott: a phone?

[:

[00:19:00] Frank: Um, visitor badges, things of that sort. I was by myself a big part of the day on rainy days because it was slower. You know what I mean? So there were times where like I'd sit there help out with like two things just to help in the office because I was that kind of guy. Didn't have to, but I did. I

[:

[00:19:17] Frank: Yeah, I mean I'm the type of person where I can't just fucking sit there and do shit all day. Anyway, um, but no, that first tunnel reveal really got me. And then. Did you think it was creepy? Like, at all? There was

[:

[00:19:39] Scott: Uh, I didn't like the flashing camera effect when they were, like, nearby. Oh, the ripple? Yeah, there was a lot of decent filmmaking that actually happened. It's not poorly made. No. I wouldn't say it is. Dad is, is a terrible actor. Mom cannot do the fake one sided conversation on the phone thing. Which I, granted, that's gotta be hard.

[:

[00:20:21] Frank: It's fine. That's what Scott's gonna say at this point in the way he feels about this And once I, once I felt you out a little right there, I could tell it was going to be fine.

[:

[00:20:35] Frank: So about the family, you think dad's the weakest

[:

[00:20:50] Frank: everyone. If this was a riding lawnmower, he went from the turtle to the rabbit.

[:

[00:20:55] Scott: was like, just short of slapping his autistic child around.

[:

[00:21:11] Frank: That was a abrupt. To say the least. Yes. And, uh, man, and like you're saying, they let you know it was an autistic son, and the fact that he snaps on him of all people, and the way that he went hardest on him? He's gone, man.

[:

[00:21:34] Scott: Until the cabin when she's,

[:

[00:21:35] Scott: trying to ease. And do you think it was because he's also not a good actor? And they were like, let's make him autistic.

[:

[00:21:52] Frank: And when he was talking sometimes, I didn't realize it was him, and I'm like, Oh fuck, that was Riley. I don't know, it was just kind of, he wasn't hard, not hardly there.

[:

[00:22:07] Frank: I think he did better than that one brother from Home Improvement.

[:

[00:22:13] Frank: And we just, he's the middle one? He's the youngest,

[:

[00:22:18] Frank: JTT was the middle, so that kid was the youngest one? Yeah, Mark.

[:

[00:22:27] Frank: there's, there's, let's not get into the child actors that I didn't think were good.

[:

[00:22:33] Scott: did more than I did. You were the same fucking age as them

[:

[00:22:42] Scott: You'll never make it on the Disney Channel, boy. But

[:

[00:22:51] Scott: Well, I mean, he brought that chemical log to light the fire, just a bunch of sticks.

[:

[00:23:12] Frank: there.

[:

[00:23:15] Scott: And then it was a bunch of, like, sticks he hadn't even thrown, like, it's a starter log, man. Put the big logs on. You don't need kindling.

[:

[00:23:28] Scott: what the fuck? Why did he choose to shoot there? You know what? We're camping out in the middle of nature.

[:

[00:23:41] Frank: you go out like in uh, deep country You might see a little bit of graffiti, but it's very rare to see that much, you know, like people were going there. Yeah, which makes me feel like, okay, this is kind of like a bad film location because you're almost telling me this is this close to a major city.

[:

[00:23:57] Scott: know what I mean? Yeah, their campsite was also, you could see the road in the background. Yeah. And I was like, really?

[:

[00:24:14] Scott: I've been in desert.

[:

[00:24:24] Frank: I know, somebody even said it, and then, you know, the typical 31 31, he went to repeater mode. It's like, saw that coming, Riley.

[:

[00:24:35] Scott: I don't like the red room. I,

[:

[00:24:46] Scott: The people from, uh, making water? The Na'vi? The Navi? Yeah. Is

[:

[00:24:58] Scott: shape of water or

[:

[00:25:02] Frank: I think it's the way of water. I don't know. I liked one

[:

[00:25:08] Frank: Look, I've been on that Avatar game. That shit is That's deep. It's a lot of ground to cover, but I have tamed my own Ikran, and I'm slowly upping all my stats. You're like, interesting.

[:

[00:25:26] Scott: The perfectly spaced crows that fell from the sky. You thought they were

[:

[00:25:32] Scott: were pretty evenly spaced. Let me just say, pretty evenly

[:

[00:25:43] Scott: mean, crows are big. They could have been ravens, I guess.

[:

[00:25:47] Frank: crows. No, but did you see the coloring of the legs? And like the, like the underbelly? Like the chest? Like the breast area on those fuckers? Oh, no. I swear to fuck there were turkeys in the fucking crow piles. Maybe it

[:

[00:26:05] Scott: Like, yeah, like a turkey vulture. They're like, well,

[:

[00:26:15] Scott: prey over here. Turkey vulture.

[:

[00:26:22] Scott: are real. It is real, right?

[:

[00:26:29] Frank: Have you ever gotten stung by a tarantula hawk? No, that's an insect. It's not a bird,

[:

[00:26:40] Frank: The tunnel did make me jump the first time you get the reveal dad's gone Did you get what did it look freaky to you when the dad was getting?

[:

[00:26:48] Scott: alien. You know, I didn't, I wasn't phased by it that time. I think I was just like, I, that was when I was a little upset with the distortions in the camera was, I was like, just do it. Just do it. Yeah. Don't don't hide it from me. I appreciate the little snippets of alien. It didn't get me any of the times.

[:

[00:27:10] Frank: you didn't have a single jump scare No, I didn't this watch but the first time I know I had at least the one in the tunnel and I might have had one too Just cuz like the pop up scenes like you know Like when it's just there and most of the time in this one, you can you know when it's coming This one didn't really have hidden jump scares.

[:

[00:27:40] Frank: And I was like, okay, I'll run those pens. They're going to be like, ah, it's behind them all of a sudden, you know, or like, there's gonna be a hand

[:

[00:27:49] Frank: You were like, this is gonna

[:

[00:27:58] Scott: And then he was throwing retard around at the kid. I had a

[:

[00:28:16] Scott: I thought he should have been way more concerned about his dog.

[:

[00:28:22] Scott: let that dog go a little fast. Real quick.

[:

[00:28:37] Scott: Nah, I don't know. I don't know. I don't think so. No. I think I'd still be Really concerned about

no

[:

[00:28:46] Frank: There was some sacrifice

[:

[00:28:51] Frank: Dad was gonna take one for the team as much as we disliked him as much as you know I don't think

[:

[00:29:01] Frank: that's like to go ahead to move forward big bro big bro steps up in the cabin

[:

[00:29:06] Scott: Could he had gone downstairs with

[:

[00:29:13] Scott: like pulled the couch over them And like, trap them in the basement, essentially. They could have just died in there. If like, nobody ever found

[:

[00:29:25] Frank: Are you telling me that this advanced alien technology couldn't scan through the couch over the fucking trap door

[:

[00:29:33] Frank: can't see through furniture!

[:

[00:29:38] Frank: Yeah! I mean, this turns into a world where the humans are hiding behind like, bookshelves.

[:

[00:29:51] Scott: They won't

[:

[00:30:01] Scott: up.

[:

[00:30:04] Frank: that high up. And then when it gets real bright, that's, that's supposed to be atmosphere. I'd imagine.

[:

[00:30:14] Frank: even if it makes it through the burn up somehow, somehow, because maybe it didn't have the velocity, you know, maybe it was traveling at the right speed.

[:

[00:30:34] Scott: meow. Come on meow. What I did find impressive, what I'm calling Mom and Shaw getting sucked off. Oh, how'd you like the crackle?

[:

[00:30:58] Frank: white. Yeah. Well, like that, that's what I'm saying.

[:

[00:31:05] Scott: you know, way to, for sure. It's not a bad movie as far as special effects go to be honest, which is why I thought the. Messing up the camera thing was

[:

[00:31:20] Frank: Is there like, do you like the character? Can you relate to the

[:

[00:31:38] Frank: Well, whether it's like an alien abduction, an alien invasion, a zombie outbreak, you know, zombie outbreak, there's the weak and the strong. Like, are you gonna survive? Look, take note, people. Shut the fuck up when you need to be quiet. And I know that this is for the effect of the movie, but I had a real disliking for these characters because I'm like, you need to be stealth.

[:

[00:32:08] Scott: decisions. Mom, when she tries to run out of the fucking cabin. That really bothered me. Cause I was like, she's been pretty level headed moving him along until just now.

[:

[00:32:24] Frank: me? Yeah. Did that one almost

[:

[00:32:34] Frank: Hey, when they were in the tunnel, did you see the one in the mirror?

[:

[00:32:37] Scott: I don't think I did. The

[:

[00:32:59] Scott: in the mirror.

[:

[00:33:24] Scott: Dad was really, really bad. But they kind of, other than the brother going, which was just storytelling wise, that was when he needed to go. He'd done his part, he cried. Get out of

[:

[00:33:43] Frank: Like, do you go to like, movie knowledge, or like,

[:

[00:34:09] Scott: It's kind of like you can see a long, a long way here, no matter where you are. You, you could see pretty far in places like that, it's easy to get turned around because you can't just like turn around and be like, that's the same mountain I saw before, you know,

[:

[00:34:26] Scott: do you remember in the movie when they see the town and then they've been going down the hill for a really long time?

[:

[00:34:53] Scott: Like the dis

[:

[00:34:57] Scott: I was like, is this a time loop? I wanted it to be a time loop, I'm not gonna lie. Yeah, of course you did.

[:

[00:35:04] Scott: oh god, it's gonna be a dimensional thing. I was like, oh shit, time loop. Yeah. Like they Are the first one.

[:

[00:35:13] Frank: ha ha. There's a found footage that has a twist that's kind

[:

[00:35:22] Frank: Dude, this is one that I looked for for possibly doing. Something was very creepy about it. It pops up on lists of like found footage movies.

[:

[00:35:34] Scott: it's not there. Oh, like you can't even look it up?

[:

[00:35:41] Scott: streaming services then

[:

[00:35:48] Scott: IMDb?

[:

[00:35:52] Frank: IMDb Um, wasn't it? Well, I don't even, weird shit was happening when I was looking up the one that has a sort of twist like that. It freaked me the fuck out. Cause you know, I get weird, I don't fuck with it. If you don't know by now, I don't fuck

[:

[00:36:06] Scott: Well, I try not to. Have you seen that video where, uh, I probably not. The girl calls you and she's like, Seven day. No, shh, no, none of

[:

[00:36:27] Frank: Um, but that's good to know.

[:

[00:36:31] Frank: No, he did not get sucked off. He got the stare down. But, uh, most likely got sucked off after the stare down. But they only showed the It's a creepy way to get abducted. 27

[:

[00:36:44] Frank: 27? And this is 2011, man. This wasn't that long ago.

[:

[00:37:02] Frank: It was like a good moment. I liked his

[:

[00:37:05] Frank: know, but yeah, I like I just touch on the hiding I know you hate it when I touch back kind of I feel you do

[:
