Transcripts

Laura:

Hello, and welcome to who are you?

Laura:

It's a Babylon five watch cast by a couple of former strangers.

Laura:

Now friends who are continuing to get to know each other.

Laura:

Over one of their favorite shows from their childhood Babylon five.

Laura:

I'm Laura.

Xhafer:

And I'm fair.

Laura:

And today I get to ask Joe fare.

Laura:

What do you want?

Xhafer:

So I feel like we've both done this one now, right before vacations,

Xhafer:

where we talk about our pending vacation.

Xhafer:

So I, but it's a different vacation.

Xhafer:

And I am very excited

Laura:

I want to know your itineraries.

Laura:

That's what I was hoping you were going to get into.

Xhafer:

Oh, I, I actually, so when I do a vacation, I'm like

Xhafer:

kind of like fast and blue swell, like leaving lots of free time.

Xhafer:

I like, like, oh, I'll figure out what I'll do in this city.

Xhafer:

When I get there, I'll find something fun.

Xhafer:

I'll Yelp.

Xhafer:

I'll Google.

Xhafer:

I'll.

Xhafer:

Look on Facebook events, I'll find something right.

Xhafer:

And I think part of that is just from all of my years of work travel and

Xhafer:

just like kind of ad hoc, throwing.

Xhafer:

Things together when I had the energy to throw them together.

Xhafer:

Uh, my sister is not that

Laura:

Oh boy.

Xhafer:

is a family trip.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So it's, it's yourself, your sister and your mom, right?

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

And then my sister's boyfriend.

Xhafer:

Is meeting us over there.

Xhafer:

Into the trip and he'll be with us through Christmas.

Xhafer:

Which is exciting.

Xhafer:

I.

Xhafer:

I mean, I've known my sister's boyfriend longer than she has.

Xhafer:

He's one of my old roommates in college.

Laura:

Nice.

Xhafer:

I've considered him family for a decade on, at this point.

Xhafer:

So not really like oh, it'll like listener.

Xhafer:

If you're thinking about yourself in this situation, understand

Xhafer:

that it's a bit different.

Xhafer:

And if you were not pleased, when I mentioned.

Xhafer:

The uh, significant others writing us.

Xhafer:

So.

Xhafer:

We are.

Xhafer:

Flying out to London.

Xhafer:

. In three days

Laura:

so excited.

Xhafer:

When this airs, I will have been home for two weeks.

Xhafer:

Because we've been working quite a bit ahead.

Xhafer:

I think, yeah, because like two weeks ago on air, I mentioned, oh, when

Xhafer:

you're listening to this, I'll be flying

Laura:

Right.

Xhafer:

This is from that trip and I'm going for two weeks.

Xhafer:

So it's not even like it's a little bit.

Xhafer:

So.

Xhafer:

Yes, the itinerary.

Xhafer:

I actually have it

Laura:

Yeah, London first, obviously.

Xhafer:

Yeah, we're getting in London for a day.

Xhafer:

We'll just to the time zone.

Xhafer:

We'll hang out a little bit.

Xhafer:

We're staying at the same hotel in London the first day that we

Xhafer:

will be for the back half of the

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

So we're planning on leaving a lot of our luggage

Laura:

Hey.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

That's cool.

Xhafer:

And then we hop on a train to Salisbury.

Xhafer:

And from Solsbury we get on a bus and we're going to go see Stonehenge.

Laura:

that'll be fun.

Xhafer:

And do the Salzburg, cathedral and other Solsbury things.

Xhafer:

I presume have a steak.

Xhafer:

And then after all of that spend the night

Xhafer:

There in Bath.

Xhafer:

Uh, We've got an Airbnb.

Xhafer:

That's like.

Xhafer:

Meandering distance from the Roman baths.

Laura:

Oh, that's cool.

Xhafer:

that.

Xhafer:

Get up.

Xhafer:

Get on a train to Cardiff, go to Carta for a day.

Xhafer:

Go see Torchwood find Jack Harkness yell, Gwen Cooper, a couple of times.

Laura:

As windows.

Xhafer:

As one does when one is in Cardiff.

Xhafer:

I think I found a scissor sisters cover band that's plaguing Cardiff that night.

Xhafer:

So I'll probably go see them.

Xhafer:

But I have not been able to.

Xhafer:

I found it once and I've been able to find it since I, they

Xhafer:

might've canceled the event.

Xhafer:

Get on a train in Cardiff the next morning, go up to Liverpool.

Xhafer:

Go to the cavern club, which is where the Beatles kind of got their start.

Laura:

Cool.

Xhafer:

And there is a uh, Paul McCartney tribute act who works with one of the

Xhafer:

like sound engineers from the Beatles.

Xhafer:

Like who's like, this is the guy.

Xhafer:

He's done tours and stuff.

Xhafer:

Like he is.

Xhafer:

I've listened to me.

Xhafer:

Sounds just like Paul.

Xhafer:

Who's playing at the cavern club that night.

Laura:

That'll be fun.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

so we're going to go do that.

Xhafer:

Get on a train to Edinburgh.

Xhafer:

And then spend four days there.

Xhafer:

We have, we're going to a cocktail geeks there in back again.

Xhafer:

Which is a Lord of the rings themed cocktail

Laura:

Oh man.

Xhafer:

changed their theme.

Xhafer:

Every couple of weeks.

Xhafer:

Uh, We have a day tour of the Highlands distilleries the next day.

Xhafer:

We have a.

Xhafer:

Cheesecake place we're going to in a tea room all this stuff.

Xhafer:

And then.

Xhafer:

After that on the 23rd, get on a bullet train, go down to London.

Xhafer:

See Westminster Abbey.

Xhafer:

The 24th, we're going to go to like Piccadilly circus and all that stuff.

Xhafer:

And Dougal at Christmas shopping.

Xhafer:

And then Christmas day, we've got reservations at a fancy restaurant.

Xhafer:

Uh, The 26th, we're going to go to Oxford.

Xhafer:

And check out the university and do stuff there.

Xhafer:

The 27th, we still have open.

Xhafer:

We don't know what we're going to do yet.

Xhafer:

And then the 28th.

Xhafer:

We get on a plane at nine 40 in the morning and land at 2:00 PM.

Laura:

That's crazy, but time, time jump is wild.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Laura:

we wish you an easier time.

Laura:

Reacclimating on your way back.

Xhafer:

I'm very excited to drink a bunch of scotch.

Xhafer:

I don't drink scotch.

Xhafer:

Normally I'm not a scotch person, but.

Xhafer:

I'm not going to Scotland without drinking

Laura:

sure.

Xhafer:

I know exactly how much I can bring home too.

Xhafer:

So.

Xhafer:

There's that.

Laura:

You've got the right to

Laura:

case.

Xhafer:

Yeah, I've got the right suitcase for it.

Xhafer:

And I think I might.

Xhafer:

I spent most of my day looking at kilts.

Xhafer:

I think I might buy a kilt while I'm

Laura:

I mean, you absolutely should.

Laura:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I do have a Scottish family.

Xhafer:

On my mother's side.

Laura:

And kind of trace it back there.

Xhafer:

up my tart and everything and the clan and.

Xhafer:

All that stuff.

Xhafer:

So.

Laura:

Yeah, that'll be fun.

Laura:

Well, it sounds like you have it all planned out or your

Laura:

sister helped plan it all out.

Xhafer:

I back seated and to let her do everything until she was exhausted.

Xhafer:

And then it's, oh, we don't have these train tickets for these days.

Xhafer:

Got it all

Xhafer:

booked.

Xhafer:

In about an hour and a

Laura:

That's teamwork right there.

Xhafer:

so.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it's I wasn't going to step on toes.

Xhafer:

Uh, And that was definitely, I was trying to avoid that.

Xhafer:

I know how that goes.

Xhafer:

Uh, so once it, once I got the, all clear that, my help

Xhafer:

was appreciated and required.

Xhafer:

And then I, then I jumped in, but for the most part, I just got to let it

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah, well, you know, if it's important to someone else, it's the

Laura:

nice thing to do to let them drive.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I mean, I'm just looking forward to.

Xhafer:

Doing a bunch of stuff.

Xhafer:

It's going to be a good

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

It will.

Laura:

We can't wait to hear all about it.

Xhafer:

well, my trip might be very thoroughly planned.

Xhafer:

What's not planned is the response to the events of this week's episode.

Xhafer:

W we've got season three, episode nine, the point of no return.

Xhafer:

And Hey, it's our season title episode.

Xhafer:

We get

Laura:

Oh, yeah.

Laura:

I hadn't thought about the season three title.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

That's that's where we're at.

Laura:

Point of no return.

Xhafer:

The point of no return.

Xhafer:

actually, I'm adding a thought.

Xhafer:

It's just the point of no

Laura:

No.

Xhafer:

But whatever.

Xhafer:

I'm taking the the, from there all the honor lies.

Xhafer:

And changing it into being the point of no return.

Laura:

We'll just take the extra here and move it here.

Xhafer:

Exactly.

Xhafer:

No one will notice and my OCD will be happier.

Laura:

So we opened this episode with Londo.

Laura:

I think once again, reviewing a report about minbar.

Laura:

We've had this come up

Xhafer:

is the same bit.

Xhafer:

Three episodes ago.

Xhafer:

I had to go back through my notes and see what I had written down to be

Xhafer:

like, this is different enough, right?

Xhafer:

And the answer is yes, it is.

Xhafer:

It is different enough.

Xhafer:

He makes kind of the same jokes, but in different places and

Xhafer:

slightly different wording.

Xhafer:

So just like dealing with any father

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

True facts.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Same song, different verse.

Laura:

You know, we're trying to.

Laura:

Basically neg on the men Bari here.

Laura:

And, you know, just paint them as inferior to the Centauri when us, as

Laura:

viewers of the show can obviously tell which race seems to be a little bit

Laura:

ahead of the other at this moment.

Xhafer:

For sure.

Xhafer:

I do think this doesn't hold up as.

Xhafer:

in the streaming era compared to the weekly TV

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I think if you had three or four, like it, well, we did have three

Xhafer:

or four weeks between episodes because we're watching them weekly as we

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So, yeah, we would've cut one week out of that weekly episode rotation,

Xhafer:

just based off the recording cadence.

Xhafer:

But.

Xhafer:

I think watching them back to back streaming this probably

Xhafer:

confused a lot of people.

Xhafer:

'cause they probably like didn't I just see this

Xhafer:

scene because I had to stop pause, go back, check my notes, find out

Xhafer:

what episode and go back and watch that scene in the other episode.

Xhafer:

So I can

Xhafer:

only imagine.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I, I didn't have to go back and watch it, but I definitely felt it.

Laura:

I was like, nah, we just did this

Laura:

. Xhafer: We get one new line in

Laura:

nothing to do with politics.

Laura:

That's fun.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

. And prescient.

Laura:

Veer wants to take a nap.

Laura:

When Linda gets a call saying lady Morella has agreed to stop

Laura:

in at Babylon five, when she's on her tour, she's going to refresh.

Laura:

Londo opens his door and there's just a cacophony of chaos outside.

Laura:

He's just like, what is going on?

Laura:

It's the point where he

Laura:

grabs a random imbar passerby.

Laura:

it's just like what is going on?

Laura:

And he's all like the earthers declared martial law.

Laura:

Yeah, it it's sure.

Laura:

Sure set off some feelings on this station.

Laura:

Amongst the populace.

Laura:

Meanwhile, Sheridan and Ivana are talking about that.

Laura:

They are.

Laura:

In discussion with earth force.

Laura:

They're there talking to this general who says, yes, Clark has signed an

Laura:

executive order, dissolving the Senate.

Laura:

And boy um, that feels a little familiar too.

Laura:

Did you follow the news this week?

Xhafer:

I did hear about that actually.

Xhafer:

Yeah, this just happened this last week in.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

As I was reading news about that, I was like Uh, I feel like

Laura:

I just watched this on a show.

Xhafer:

You did.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

It seems like the real life situation is turning out a little

Laura:

better and that the Congress or.

Laura:

I don't think they called themselves Senate.

Laura:

I think it was Congress.

Laura:

Didn't allow themselves to be dissolved.

Xhafer:

Yeah, they just impeached the president instead in the military, back

Xhafer:

to Congress instead of the president.

Xhafer:

So Congress one.

Laura:

So you got not, not happening on Babylon five, unfortunately.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So we know that Clark was going to meet the Senate and offer them a

Xhafer:

explanation as to why he declared martial law behind closed doors.

Xhafer:

He's like if the closed session, the Senate.

Xhafer:

And so his explanation was I'm dissolving the Senate.

Xhafer:

It's why martial law was declared.

Xhafer:

And it does appear he needs a quake literal dissolving of the Senate.

Xhafer:

As we see soldiers stormed the Senate building.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

But yeah, so they're talking to a general and what's up with this guy.

Xhafer:

He's got four monitors behind

Xhafer:

him with his zoom call on it.

Xhafer:

Can you imagine being on a call and having someone's background, be you on the call.

Laura:

Oh, man, that'd be horrible.

Laura:

I mean, I'm sure someone's done it right now that we live in the zoom era.

Xhafer:

I was about to set up OBS and do it shit.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I saw a very clever one the other day, that was a, they made their zoom

Laura:

background, a video of themselves getting themselves a cup of tea.

Laura:

So.

Laura:

The video that you see.

Laura:

This person sitting there getting themselves a cup of tea.

Laura:

It was very good.

Laura:

That was good.

Laura:

But yeah, we find out general Haig is missing.

Laura:

He uh, he and the

Xhafer:

We'll find out what's going on there soon.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

The Alexander is on the run along with a couple other ships.

Xhafer:

And we get a God help us.

Xhafer:

You're all alone out there.

Xhafer:

To theme.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

When we come back, we're in CNC, we get about, about

Xhafer:

maintaining the status quo.

Xhafer:

And Corwin is just like, how did we get to this point?

Xhafer:

What did we do wrong and shared and just thought like, Fuck fine.

Xhafer:

I know.

Laura:

That's that's a real mood though.

Laura:

I felt that man.

Xhafer:

I dunno, we elected one idiot 40 years ago and it somehow spiraled

Xhafer:

into electing an idiot this time.

Xhafer:

And I don't even know.

Laura:

Yeah, this is the cycle.

Laura:

If you made a day, I guess.

Xhafer:

We get a bit about general.

Xhafer:

Heck, here he is organizing a counter strike.

Xhafer:

Uh, There's a

Xhafer:

Night watch.

Xhafer:

meeting soon.

Xhafer:

And Jakarta Singh and got worse.

Xhafer:

I was actually disappointed that they leaned into the bit

Xhafer:

that they were trying to do.

Xhafer:

I think it would have been funnier if his singing was really good.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

They, they may get a little more like a cling on opera E instead of What

Laura:

the singing of the he did for us.

Laura:

And what was that season one where he's singing about all

Laura:

the little fishes in the sea.

Laura:

Yeah, so he definitely did degrade a little bit.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he gets set free three weeks early because of everything going.

Xhafer:

I wonder, I wonder if that will come back.

Xhafer:

That's three weeks of missing punishment.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Over at space TSA, Lando and veer are waiting.

Xhafer:

As, uh, we learned that lady more is a prophete, uh, a Sr.

Xhafer:

Right before she arrives and y'all, it's Major Barrett.

Laura:

Such a good get, I love it.

Laura:

I was sitting there poking my husband the entire time.

Laura:

She's like walking onto the, into the scene.

Laura:

I'm like, look like.

Xhafer:

Yeah, I had to pause because Beth west Russell, and then I was

Xhafer:

just like, You recognize that voice?

Xhafer:

She's all like, yeah.

Xhafer:

And like just waiting and watching it like wash over her face and she's

Xhafer:

like, holy shit, it's Rachel Barrett.

Xhafer:

I'm like, yes.

Xhafer:

There's a fun story about how this happened.

Laura:

Hmm, do tell.

Xhafer:

So Major Barrett on the convention scene got asked a question about like,

Xhafer:

Hey, how do you feel about, you know, all this Babylon five stuff ripping

Xhafer:

off star Trek, and she's all like, have you watched the show because

Xhafer:

Babylon five is actually a good show.

Xhafer:

And if you like intelligent science fiction, you should

Xhafer:

probably watch Babylon five.

Xhafer:

Uh, If you haven't given it a chance because it's actually a good show,

Xhafer:

so don't buy into any of that.

Xhafer:

If you like scifi, if you like star Trek, you'll probably like Babylon five.

Xhafer:

Said that out of convention.

Xhafer:

Or it gets back to JMS,

Xhafer:

JMS reaches out through proper channels.

Xhafer:

Hey, would you be interested in doing a guest spot?

Xhafer:

I'd be

Xhafer:

delighted.

Xhafer:

So he wrote the role of lady Marella for major Barrett.

Laura:

Oh, that's

Xhafer:

Just like wrote her into an episode.

Xhafer:

We're doing

Laura:

She's such a class act.

Laura:

That was the classiest response.

Laura:

You could have to that question in that venue, like.

Xhafer:

sure.

Xhafer:

And even then some of the dialogue in here is admittedly about gene Roddenberry.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Like there's a bit with Lando talking about how great her husband was and

Xhafer:

her talking about how people are never appreciated in their time.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

, and only in their, you know, when they're young and they're

Xhafer:

great, they're like, oh, it's ego.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

. And then when you're old and you're great, it's, you know, forgotten.

Xhafer:

Or you know, no one gives a shit anymore because you're old.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And only in death is greatness really imparted to someone who is.

Xhafer:

100% just talking about gene Roddenberry confirmed by JMS.

Laura:

that's very sweet.

Laura:

That is very sweet.

Laura:

I like that context on that.

Laura:

Hm.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it opens it up.

Xhafer:

It changes the dialogue a little bit.

Xhafer:

When you view through that real-world

Laura:

I do think it's very fun and her dialogue too, that she refers to herself

Laura:

in the we, and they explained that as.

Laura:

Her husband's spirit is said to be with her now, since, since he is passed on.

Laura:

And so she gets to use, you know, the Royal we for everything,

Laura:

I think it is delightful.

Laura:

It adds a lot to the.

Laura:

The mystique of this Centauri woman.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

It's great.

Xhafer:

We get two simultaneous scenes right after this, we get the Nightwatch

Xhafer:

meeting and Sheridan's office.

Xhafer:

We learned that all off world security is going to be handled by Nightwatch only.

Xhafer:

Uh, the general is very like specific and kind of like steri with his words.

Xhafer:

And we find out why later.

Xhafer:

In the episode, but I'm all like, he's just telling him what to do.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Like, I don't know if I was just because I've seen this and it was

Xhafer:

just living in the back of my mind.

Xhafer:

This is, this will be a fun one to go back and listen to some of those

Xhafer:

Babylon five first-timer podcasts for, I

Laura:

Oh, sure.

Xhafer:

Because I knew what was going to happen and I can't separate

Xhafer:

knowing what was gonna happen from.

Xhafer:

Watching it at this point.

Xhafer:

So, I don't know if it just stood out to me as obvious because I was waiting for

Xhafer:

it, even if I didn't remember it directly.

Xhafer:

Or if it's just super blatant.

Laura:

Yeah, no, I remember this as being something that went

Laura:

over my head when I was a kid.

Laura:

And then.

Laura:

When he turns it at the end of the episode, being like,

Laura:

Oh, he's so smart.

Laura:

. but yeah.

Xhafer:

I doubt I got it as a kid.

Xhafer:

I don't recall, but on my watch through that I started in 2020.

Xhafer:

Definitely was just like, I was obvious.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I wonder for

Xhafer:

Because they've done this before.

Xhafer:

They've done this thing where the general gets orders and they use the

Xhafer:

exact language or the Senator gives orders and it's all like, they use the

Xhafer:

exact language to turn it against them.

Xhafer:

And like for them to like zoom in or like, just focus on like, he'd say

Xhafer:

something and he'd just like sit there and be like, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Xhafer:

It's just like, it felt like a bit much.

Xhafer:

We get a Nightwatch runs Babylon five.

Xhafer:

Now from officer Alex Jones to commercial.

Laura:

Garibaldi is going to love that.

Xhafer:

Yup.

Xhafer:

So I wanted to talk a bit about Nightwatch and this seems like a good time.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Thick as

Laura:

thieves this last

Laura:

episode.

. Xhafer:

So Nightwatch comes from a quote from a famous.

. Xhafer:

We'll go through term politician.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

I'm going to read you the quote.

Xhafer:

And I want you to guess if you can tell me who said this quote.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

I don't believe a conservative Nightwatch would be tolerated either.

Xhafer:

This is the Genesis of the term.

Xhafer:

Nightwatch.

Xhafer:

From JMS Bringing up this quote.

Xhafer:

Who do you think said this?

Laura:

Is it an American.

Laura:

I guess you

Laura:

don't

Xhafer:

don't want to

Xhafer:

give hints.

Xhafer:

because it could give it away.

Xhafer:

But think, think about.

Xhafer:

Thinking about what Nightwatch is and what Nightwatch does, and someone in history.

Xhafer:

Who might be aligned with that kind of organization?

Laura:

I mean.

Laura:

The.

Laura:

Obvious thought is Hitler.

Laura:

Is

Laura:

it that.

Laura:

But it is an American.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

It is Joseph

Laura:

That was my next guest.

Xhafer:

Yup.

Laura:

Cause that was kind of his whole thing too.

Laura:

Watching people.

Xhafer:

Yeah, this was directly in response to being all like, well, Hey,

Xhafer:

you're just like creating a conservative version of the Gestapo to root out

Xhafer:

liberals and calling them communists.

Xhafer:

And he's all like, no, no one would tolerate a conservative Nightwatch.

Xhafer:

Like co coining the term almost.

Xhafer:

And so that's where this comes from.

Xhafer:

And this is directly in response to his feelings about a lot of

Xhafer:

people who would watch the news in the early and mid nineties.

Xhafer:

And be all like this kind of thing can happen in other countries,

Xhafer:

but it can't happen here.

Laura:

Uh, Huh.

Xhafer:

Because he thought it was absurd to think that given it has happened here.

Laura:

Right.

Xhafer:

than once.

Xhafer:

And so a lot of how the Nightwatch storyline is organized is to kind

Xhafer:

of lead you into a, this is how.

Xhafer:

A democracy can become a police state from the view of people in that democracy.

Laura:

Yeah, I remember.

Laura:

Too, you know, in the . Early two thousands, when you and I were

Laura:

still, you know, children, right.

Laura:

Teenagers.

Laura:

The, when we formulated the department of Homeland security.

Laura:

And hearing, you know, in my circles and from the adults in my life, like how.

Laura:

Uh, Sort of horrifying that was in that, you know,

Laura:

The, the words Homeland specifically.

Laura:

Kind of hearkening to some right-wing.

Laura:

Connotations.

Laura:

And especially from other countries, like.

Laura:

You know, Germany have a certain time and such, so, but it was well

Laura:

received in other parts of the country.

Laura:

So.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Uh, For sure.

Xhafer:

I mean, I admittedly have a very unique experience in my Where I was living

Xhafer:

in what I was not really doing, but definitely where I was living in.

Xhafer:

I was a student at and during nine 11.

Xhafer:

And I mean, I've talked about my father before.

Xhafer:

On pod.

Xhafer:

He's a very conservative dude.

Xhafer:

That's not news for listeners.

Xhafer:

Him being a Muslim probably is news for most listeners.

Laura:

An odd combination sometimes.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah, especially given some stuff he said, I think I've

Xhafer:

actually, I might've mentioned on,

Laura:

I know we have talked about it.

Laura:

I'm not sure if it made it to pod.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Some mental Dissonance he's had had but having that the

Xhafer:

high school that I went to was not a white majority high school.

Xhafer:

I went to a white plurality high school that had a lot of People

Xhafer:

of middle Eastern, ethnic descent.

Xhafer:

Most of them were actually Christians.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

That's it was a group that was displaced during the first.

Xhafer:

Gulf war.

Xhafer:

Bye.

Xhafer:

Said I'm saying, and then ended up being brought over.

Xhafer:

In mass has cultural refugees and settled into the trade area, right by

Laura:

sounds eerily familiar?

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

So

Xhafer:

That.

Xhafer:

being a whole thing too, you know, like, Having that being my peers in high school.

Xhafer:

And then having something like nine 11 happened in assignment that Aladdin and

Xhafer:

the wars, and just like, it's a very.

Xhafer:

Interesting experience.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Reflective I'm sure.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Especially as I've gotten older and learned to both process things

Xhafer:

and be a bit more introspective.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So we come back from commercial to find your car going to his quarters.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And if.

Laura:

Uh, familiar Nard and standing around.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

It's Talan.

Laura:

He's back.

Xhafer:

Whose name in the subtitles with Smith's spelled as TALEN.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

Thought that was fun.

Laura:

You can't win them all in the subtitles.

Xhafer:

They do such a good job.

Xhafer:

Most of the time, I'm not even going to be upset about this

Laura:

Nah, no, it's a weird name.

Laura:

And he's been

Laura:

waiting.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

This whole time.

Laura:

Yup.

Xhafer:

He takes a break every five days to sleep, but otherwise

Xhafer:

decides that he's been standing in front of Dzhokhar's room for weeks.

Laura:

Not weird for anybody else.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he just didn't want to miss him.

Laura:

Yeah, but Chicago is really glad he's here because

Laura:

you know, he's, he's had his.

Laura:

days in jail and has plans for the NARKN and he can start with this

Laura:

contingent that's on Babylon five.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

We cut over to security and we see the ceremonial.

Xhafer:

I was just following orders, handing out of the armbands.

Laura:

So uncomfortable.

Xhafer:

it should be.

Xhafer:

And Garibaldi knows this is going on.

Xhafer:

He's up in Sheridan's office and he's livid.

Xhafer:

Garibaldi can't stand fascism when he's not being the

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

You know, we see You know, notably, we see at least one person except the armband.

Laura:

We see another person choose to give up his badge and his gun.

Laura:

Before we're going to see Garibaldi lose his mind.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We got a little bit in Linda's quarters where he comes clean to lady Marella.

Xhafer:

Asking the lady for a reading.

Xhafer:

She gives them the hard truth.

Xhafer:

There's always a choice.

Xhafer:

We only say that there's not a choice to comfort ourselves

Xhafer:

with the decisions we've already

Laura:

Wait a freak and call it out lady.

Laura:

Morella like.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

For sure.

Xhafer:

And this is something Londo has said to himself, a ton.

Xhafer:

Like, this is something that he is, he has been all like, well,

Xhafer:

there's, there's no choice.

Xhafer:

This is the only path forward.

Laura:

And he said it to

Laura:

veer.

Xhafer:

we have to do now.

Xhafer:

You said it to veer.

Xhafer:

He said it to REFA.

Xhafer:

He said it to.

Xhafer:

Everyone.

Xhafer:

He says it to himself all the time.

Xhafer:

I'm curious if he continues to after this point.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I don't know.

Xhafer:

I don't remember.

Laura:

We've got to watch for that because she called it out.

Laura:

Spade is a spade Alondo Mallari.

Laura:

You've made these choices.

Laura:

You just want to feel better about them.

Laura:

So you tell yourself you have nothing.

Laura:

Yeah, what a smart lady.

Xhafer:

Right, Zach intercepts Garibaldi on his way to punch some fascists.

Xhafer:

Which we are capable of appreciating, but still recognizing he's the fucking worst.

Xhafer:

And Zack gets told it's time to get his shit together.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We get a bit, or he's all like, Hey, I gave you a chance when no one else

Xhafer:

would, Hey, I introduced you to your wife.

Xhafer:

And I really wanted to pause at

Xhafer:

that moment because I really, really, really want the Jerry Doyle matchmaker

Xhafer:

series on great American network.

Xhafer:

I don't want to watch it ever.

Xhafer:

I just want the pleasure of knowing it existed.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Unfortunately for a number of reasons, it can't and won't, but can

Xhafer:

you imagine like Garibaldi matchmaker.

Laura:

I, this was one of those moments in the, in Babylon five, writing that I was

Laura:

like, this would be a little bit stronger.

Laura:

If you had peppered something in.

Laura:

Earlier, somewhere else in the show.

Laura:

With, with these moments, like I can, I can buy off on the, I gave you a

Laura:

chance when no one else would that one.

Laura:

I'm like, okay.

Laura:

You know, we've seen that in his character, the matchmaker part.

Laura:

I haven't seen anything like that.

Laura:

That's a little harder.

Laura:

That's a bit of a stretch.

Xhafer:

So he gives a big speech is all like, Hey.

Xhafer:

We're the team.

Xhafer:

We're us.

Xhafer:

What's going on?

Xhafer:

Knock it the fuck off.

Xhafer:

But a bunch of fascists end up being a bunch of fascists.

Xhafer:

Surprise, surprise.

Laura:

figure.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Who would have thought.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Back from commercial Jakarta tells Talan.

Xhafer:

About his experience in dust to dust a couple episodes ago.

Xhafer:

He hands him, his book.

Xhafer:

He's like this will help, but the words are difficult.

Xhafer:

I could spend the rest of my life trying to describe a moment.

Laura:

Yeah, he's definitely, he was touched by a VAR lawn and

Laura:

he's turned into something else.

Laura:

So.

Xhafer:

That's the CBS series we should've had.

Laura:

So that was another time period, appropriate reference.

Laura:

I'm very proud of myself.

Xhafer:

He says they have in order for their species to survive,

Xhafer:

they're going to have to give up.

Xhafer:

Their species.

Xhafer:

But he doesn't mean it and kind of all like we're so based in anger.

Xhafer:

So based in revenge, these are the things we'll have to give up.

Xhafer:

We have to harmonize with the universe.

Xhafer:

And starts with the humans.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I think that's the biggest thing about Jakarta.

Laura:

Since dust to dust, right.

Laura:

That he.

Laura:

Is no longer motivated by revenge.

Laura:

Like he's still kind of wants the same things, but he is not out

Laura:

to get this entire tree anymore.

Laura:

He is out to do the right thing for.

Laura:

For the NARKN and also the universe.

Laura:

And you know, what.

Laura:

He wants it for the universe so much that.

Laura:

If he winds up having to sacrifice all of the non.

Laura:

So be it, you know So

Xhafer:

Because the universe is more important.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He believes in

Laura:

something

Xhafer:

the very least he gets what Kosh was, brainwashing him to get.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Well, you know, he believed in something bigger than himself, always

Laura:

through this series, I think because he believed in the non people, right.

Laura:

Now he believes in something even bigger than the non people, which is interesting.

Laura:

But also manipulated by the Orlon.

Laura:

So kind of weird.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

After this, the martial law order finally makes it to be five.

Xhafer:

On the tour of the station, ISN reports, that general Haig is fighting

Xhafer:

against the president's police state.

Xhafer:

And then the crowd cheers.

Xhafer:

When he escapes.

Xhafer:

Riot breaks out after some Nightwatch aggression.

Xhafer:

Like, they're just like, Hey.

Xhafer:

You're going to riot and starts hitting people.

Xhafer:

And it's just like, oh, oh, I see what's happening here.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Hm.

Laura:

This doesn't look familiar at all.

Xhafer:

Yeah, veer totally takes a bottle to the back of a head to protect lady.

Xhafer:

Morella.

Xhafer:

While the martial law order gets read.

Xhafer:

And then Franklin comes in.

Xhafer:

We haven't seen much of him in.

Xhafer:

This three-part or to be perfectly honest.

Xhafer:

He comes into Sheraton's office.

Xhafer:

And they talk about stuff and shared and figures out the message from earlier.

Xhafer:

At the same time, Dzhokhar pops into CNC with an idea.

Xhafer:

And then Zach gets jumped outside of his quarters.

Xhafer:

Dzhokhar's idea was to give Zach the boots medium style.

Xhafer:

.

Xhafer:

When she has a vision, she sees old man emperor, Londo, coughing on the throne.

Laura:

We've seen this.

Xhafer:

And then Zach tells officer Alex Jones, the plan.

Xhafer:

A bunch of NARKN are going to be coming in to take over the security duties.

Xhafer:

He's all like, Hey, the arriving on this ship at this time.

Xhafer:

The Nightwatch is like, ah, yeah, we're gonna, we're gonna

Xhafer:

counter this and keep the station.

Xhafer:

You did the right things.

Xhafer:

ACC.

Xhafer:

And he's just all like, yup.

Laura:

Let's send all our

Laura:

people.

Laura:

All at once to this

Laura:

docking bay.

Xhafer:

one.

Laura:

Yes,

Xhafer:

one with the doors that can close on both sides.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Laura:

Yeah, do that.

Laura:

Stop those Nard.

Xhafer:

Excellent plan.

Laura:

Exactly.

Xhafer:

We get a scene with your car, asking the non for help.

Xhafer:

We get shared in prepping and loading his sidearm.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

some dramatic hallway walking.

Xhafer:

And officer Alex Jones gathering up his group all in one place.

Xhafer:

Zac gives the signal.

Xhafer:

He rips off his armband when he dives out of there.

Laura:

Love the dramatic

Xhafer:

All of Nightwatch.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

In the bay.

Xhafer:

Sheridan tells them how it's going to be in a way that makes red form and proud.

Xhafer:

All the nineties jokes today.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Where are we?

Laura:

What time is it?

Laura:

What year is it?

Laura:

Yeah, I will.

Laura:

I love when we're like, just as we're aiming our guns at the locks shared and

Laura:

reminds them what the station is made of.

Laura:

And maybe don't do that because you'll all die.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Yeah, so this is how it is.

Xhafer:

They know that they're just buying time.

Xhafer:

But Sheridan's like, Hey, if we've got enough time to buy general Haig a

Xhafer:

couple of days to take Clark out, then.

Xhafer:

It's worth it, you know?

Xhafer:

And then we can end this thing quickly.

Xhafer:

Oh, I've got some bad news.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

But that's for next step.

Laura:

We're still optimistic at this point that we can we're far enough away.

Laura:

Right?

Laura:

We can stay out of it.

Laura:

Just long enough for them to sort their own shit out.

Laura:

Like.

Laura:

I think every, you know, Sort of colony has felt this at some point

Laura:

when a major power gets into you know, They're major power gets into a war.

Laura:

Like maybe if we just stay back.

Laura:

They'll sort

Xhafer:

yeah, we can send troops in six months.

Xhafer:

NA.

Laura:

So that's where we're still at in this episode of Babylon five.

Laura:

Playing for time.

Xhafer:

So after this Londo gets his taro card reading.

Xhafer:

And.

Xhafer:

And we get three things

Xhafer:

and I

Xhafer:

just want to read them.

Xhafer:

And I want to.

Xhafer:

I want to talk about them.

Xhafer:

A lot.

Xhafer:

But I want to, I want to go into super spoiler town.

Xhafer:

Um, So rather than asking someone to skip an indeterminate amount

Xhafer:

of time, because they don't know how long this one's going to take.

Xhafer:

I think what we should do is we should, after our end credits play.

Xhafer:

Jump into spoiler town and talk about these threes with super spoilers.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

Listen, I hope this is a good compromise for you and your

Xhafer:

inner completionist is an upset..

Laura:

Sure.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So

Laura:

after in credits, yeah.

Xhafer:

After end credits, we're going to have a bit more

Xhafer:

talking about these three things.

Xhafer:

The first is save the eye that cannot see.

Xhafer:

The second is, do not kill who is already dead.

Xhafer:

And the third is surrender yourself to your greatest fear,

Xhafer:

knowing it will destroy you.

Laura:

Yeah, those are his three chances at

Laura:

redemption.

Xhafer:

Linda was like, I don't get this cryptic bullshit.

Xhafer:

He's told he will be emperor.

Xhafer:

And so we'll veer.

Xhafer:

But only one after the other dies.

Xhafer:

And this bit in particular seems to set them both off, not veer being

Xhafer:

emperor, which really seems unlikely.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

It's very interesting because also, you know, Veer is we're we're led to

Laura:

believe significantly younger than Londo.

Laura:

So it's like,

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Of course, he's going to outlive you.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Like he should, it would be normal for veered, outlive you by decades.

Xhafer:

Londo.

Xhafer:

You're much older than him.

Laura:

Yeah, so it doesn't seem that weird.

Laura:

They're focusing on the wrong thing.

Laura:

They're focusing on the, the weirdness of one of us to die first, rather than.

Laura:

Y veer.

Xhafer:

Right, exactly.

Xhafer:

This, this upset me a little, cause it seems very logical to me that

Xhafer:

veer is going to outlive lado.

Laura:

it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Jakarta tells Sheridan.

Xhafer:

He wants it in the new Alliance in exchange for all of his help.

Xhafer:

With security, Sheridan says he'll discuss with the others.

Xhafer:

And then we get a bit with VIR and Londo on the sofa sitting

Xhafer:

as far apart as possible.

Laura:

Yeah, some

Xhafer:

they do a little bit of comedy here.

Xhafer:

In the season guide uh, Peter Jurassic.

Xhafer:

Says this scene made me want to do a two hour comedy with Stephen first.

Xhafer:

Like find a movie for us, please.

Laura:

Yeah, I would love that I would have loved to have gotten

Laura:

that before Steven first passed

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

For sure.

Xhafer:

Back in Sheridan's office.

Xhafer:

Higgs rebellion looks grim.

Xhafer:

But Dylan has made it back on whatever was keeping her away.

Xhafer:

We get quiet, contemplation out the window to credits.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

That's the episode.

Laura:

This is Kind of the second of three

Laura:

Big long acts.

Laura:

if you think about it.

Laura:

I know every episode has its own acts within it, but.

Laura:

This is a long, longer arc.

Xhafer:

This is a trilogy.

Xhafer:

This is a three-part episode that for distributions reasons was not

Xhafer:

titled part one part two part three.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

JMS even says that like they pick up literally the next scene.

Xhafer:

You can put them together and watch them as one cohesive piece.

Xhafer:

They are designed for that.

Laura:

Yeah, it's, it's beautiful.

Laura:

And of course, in that, the end of the second act, you're not going

Laura:

to have any satisfying resolution.

Laura:

So before we decide.

Laura:

How we rate this episode, I'm going to ask you a question.

Xhafer:

Go for it.

Laura:

The turn that Zack takes.

Laura:

How did you find it?

Laura:

Did you find it?

Laura:

Satisfying believable.

Laura:

What's your, what's your thoughts?

Xhafer:

He.

Xhafer:

I mean, his motives for joining Nightwatch were always, oh, well I get

Xhafer:

an extra $5 an hour or whatever you.

Xhafer:

Like it was never about Nightwatch and their ideals.

Xhafer:

I think the thing that is the least believable about Zach's arc.

Xhafer:

Is that he's effectively second in command of Nightwatch on the station.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

The reluctant

Laura:

guy.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he's the reluctant guy.

Xhafer:

He's the guy who questioned shit all the time.

Xhafer:

Like when there's the ministry of peace people, he's just

Xhafer:

like, why are we doing this?

Xhafer:

When he finds out any of the big news before it happens,

Xhafer:

he's all like that's absurd.

Xhafer:

Like he is not the dude who's out there raising your banner,

Xhafer:

committed to the cause.

Xhafer:

Why is he number two?

Xhafer:

Did he just, is it just seniority?

Xhafer:

Did he just sign up early enough?

Xhafer:

That seems very poorly organized to me.

Xhafer:

And so.

Xhafer:

That's my

Xhafer:

biggest issue with the whole thing,

Laura:

It seems like

Laura:

maybe it's his

Xhafer:

maybe.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he is.

Xhafer:

I think he's

Xhafer:

the highest ranked person.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He definitely outranks

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah, but it's not

Laura:

very clear.

Laura:

Where, where that came from considering he is so reluctant.

Laura:

But I remember feeling.

Laura:

Watching him reporting to officer Alex Jones.

Laura:

The whole.

Laura:

Plot, you know, The Narins are coming.

Laura:

And really feeling like.

Laura:

Oh, man.

Laura:

He really has.

Laura:

He really had he sold it to me.

Laura:

Like he really has decided to go ahead inside with Nightwatch he's

Laura:

he's too freaked out because they did S they did sell to his doubt

Laura:

with Garibaldi, you know, Why won't you tell me what code seminar is?

Laura:

And, he knows they're up to something.

Laura:

We see it in his face all the time.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he knows something's going on and he knows he's not trusted.

Xhafer:

And that hurts him.

Xhafer:

And that's definitely something that pushes him towards this.

Xhafer:

But the second he is trusted.

Xhafer:

And the second he's brought into the circle.

Xhafer:

It's done for him, you know, he, he's not, he's not interested.

Xhafer:

Because that's all we really wanted to do is he didn't.

Xhafer:

And it wasn't about being in the room where it happens.

Xhafer:

It was about being with your friends and with the people that

Xhafer:

you trust, you know, your comrades.

Laura:

Especially

Xhafer:

he felt like he, someone who deserved trust and he was not someone who

Xhafer:

was offered trust and that wounded him.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So I obviously we're watching it again a second time.

Laura:

Right?

Laura:

So.

Laura:

The.

Laura:

That moment where you're supposed to feel like, oh God, no, he's really turning.

Laura:

On Garibaldi didn't have the same hit the second time, but I remember.

Laura:

The first time feeling like, oh man, no, really.

Laura:

He's going to make it worse, you know?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

So I think a lot hinges on Zach and these three episodes.

Laura:

And especially this episode, do you believe.

Laura:

He could turn on them.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

For dramatic tension.

Laura:

well, how do you feel about it GFS?

Laura:

Affair.

Xhafer:

Ah, this is it.

Xhafer:

Five out of five.

Xhafer:

Let's go.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We're going to give this one, five out of five fascist punched in the face.

Xhafer:

In addition to Babylon five out of five.

Xhafer:

Um, yeah, this is it.

Xhafer:

This is a great episode.

Xhafer:

Here for it.

Xhafer:

I will say, this is the best of the three, in my opinion, not to spoil my

Xhafer:

rating on last one and or next one.

Xhafer:

Uh, but I think the pacing in this episode is just fucking perfect.

Laura:

It is very good.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I love

Laura:

Majorelle Barrett.

Xhafer:

oh, she's, she's a fucking gem in this episode, her character is.

Xhafer:

Perfect.

Xhafer:

She's great.

Xhafer:

She does a great job acting.

Xhafer:

Her interactions with Londo and veer are excellent.

Xhafer:

It's the whole thing.

Xhafer:

This is the package.

Xhafer:

This is, this is it.

Xhafer:

This is complete Babylon five.

Xhafer:

If you.

Xhafer:

Watch this episode and you didn't like it.

Xhafer:

What are you doing?

Xhafer:

Watching this show?

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I do feel very five out of five for this episode.

Laura:

Two.

Xhafer:

Which is fine for the record, but what are you doing?

Xhafer:

Listen to this podcast then to, I don't get

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Why are you here?

Laura:

Why do you hate

Xhafer:

your Yum's.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Hated this episode.

Xhafer:

I mean, maybe, I don't know if they hate themselves that much, then the, probably.

Xhafer:

And they're still watching a show and listening to this podcast,

Xhafer:

then they

Xhafer:

definitely don't agree with me.

Xhafer:

That's there's something in there.

Xhafer:

The politically there's something in there.

Xhafer:

you know, whatever, it's fine.

Xhafer:

So.

Xhafer:

Uh, But yeah, next up we've got season three, episode 10 sever dreams, earth

Xhafer:

force sends destroyers to seize control of Babylon five Sheridan rallies.

Xhafer:

The clue to fight back as the shadows gain allies or colonies defy martial law.

Laura:

Yeah, there's a

Xhafer:

It's part three.

Xhafer:

There's a lot going on there and we're not going to talk a ton about it because

Xhafer:

we're going to talk a bunch after the credits about other stuff that spoils.

Xhafer:

So let's just get right to it and say some thank yous.

Xhafer:

Thank you.

Xhafer:

thank you the last two episodes,

Xhafer:

but so extra.

Xhafer:

Thank you this time.

Xhafer:

You have a lot more passive opportunities to thank him

Xhafer:

than I do.

We'll see you next week or in about 30 seconds.

Laura:

And by.

Xhafer:

Spoiler town population us.

Xhafer:

You me.

Xhafer:

And our listener right now.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

So.

Xhafer:

One.

Xhafer:

Save the eye that cannot see.

Laura:

This is the one I'm not sure about.

Xhafer:

I got three things.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

It could be the eye, the Suntory artifact that Wando saved.

Laura:

Oh, okay.

Laura:

That's already done though.

Laura:

We've done that.

Xhafer:

Yeah, but it could be something with that.

Xhafer:

It is an emblem of the office of the emperor.

Laura:

For sure, for sure.

Xhafer:

It could be a reference to Chicago, his missing eye,

Xhafer:

which he still has right now.

Laura:

Yeah, that was where I went, but it didn't, I don't know.

Laura:

It just didn't make sense to me.

Laura:

It didn't.

Laura:

The headwind didn't sit.

Laura:

So what's the third one.

Xhafer:

Uh, The third one is.

Xhafer:

I hasn't the letter I has in Londo himself.

Xhafer:

Yes to do something.

Xhafer:

Selfless or save himself.

Xhafer:

I don't know.

Xhafer:

We know that he doesn't.

Xhafer:

Get this though, right?

Xhafer:

Like we know how he dies.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

know how he dies.

Xhafer:

We know . He's an old man gets strangled by your car.

Xhafer:

We know this happens because we see the future cut to it happening.

Xhafer:

So he surrenders himself to his greatest fear.

Xhafer:

Death.

Xhafer:

He brings it on willingly.

Xhafer:

He tells Jakarta, kill him when he gets super drunk.

Xhafer:

So the thing controlling him, can't do anything about it.

Xhafer:

Like we know this is how Londo goes out.

Xhafer:

So we know it's number three.

Xhafer:

And I also know what number two is directly.

Laura:

I, . You know, I did not remember when, when lady Marella was saying it in

Laura:

the episode, I was like, I don't remember.

Laura:

Number one.

Laura:

I don't remember.

Laura:

Number two.

Laura:

Then when you said it, when you listed it just now, I was like, there it is.

Laura:

I remember.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So I think save the, I that cannot see is saving your car from losing

Xhafer:

his eye, which he fails to do.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He does fail to do

Xhafer:

You know, Dzhokhar getting tortured and going through his,

Xhafer:

I believe it was three weeks of imprisonment on Suntory prime.

Xhafer:

I'm not quite sure how long he's there, but I would be shocked if it wasn't

Xhafer:

the three week symmetry of his missing.

Xhafer:

Punishment from this episode, especially given this comes up and

Xhafer:

in flash forwards that we've had.

Xhafer:

We see Dzhokhar's missing an eye.

Xhafer:

So this was already part of the plan.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So

Xhafer:

Um, so I think that's what that is referenced

Laura:

Sure.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

To don't kill that who was already dead.

Xhafer:

This is obviously Mr.

Xhafer:

Borden.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

I didn't think that.

Xhafer:

me.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

What'd you think it was.

Laura:

I thought it was John Sheridan.

Xhafer:

It could be Sheridan who does die.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

That's that's what, and.

Laura:

Because I think he's in jail with this.

Laura:

The Centauri prime later.

Laura:

So.

Xhafer:

Yes, he is.

Xhafer:

Uh, And he does have a chance to kill Sheridan in the far future.

Xhafer:

But he doesn't kill him.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So that would be him getting out of his destiny,

Xhafer:

which I guess he does right after

Xhafer:

like the scene right after that, it said getting drunk

Xhafer:

and having the getting killed.

Laura:

Okay, but tell me the Mr.

Laura:

Morton thing.

Laura:

Cause that's seems like it would be more likely now that you said it.

Xhafer:

Uh, Well, Mr.

Xhafer:

Morton is dead.

Xhafer:

Like the human that was Mr.

Xhafer:

Morton.

Xhafer:

His dad is inhabited by shadows.

Xhafer:

That's a whole thing.

Xhafer:

Um, and he does kill Morton.

Xhafer:

Like he has Morton's head put on a pike for vere.

Laura:

Now why would, why would not killing him be a chance at redemption?

Laura:

Well, okay.

Laura:

All right.

Laura:

Maybe.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

I think what that chain of events leads to.

Xhafer:

Is the is it the truck or the bad guys that come about towards the

Xhafer:

end of season four, season five that were like the former shadow servants.

Xhafer:

And they're the ones who put the thing on Alondo.

Laura:

Yeah, this is what

Xhafer:

is still around.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it's, it's nuking all of the shadows on Santori prime.

Xhafer:

Like he does.

Xhafer:

Nuking their entire Southern continent to kill all the shadows there and killing Mr.

Xhafer:

Morton are what draw the ire of that race.

Xhafer:

So maybe if he didn't kill.

Xhafer:

Morton at the very least, maybe she knew to shadows, but didn't kill Morton.

Xhafer:

Then maybe Morden would have gotten the drop to do something else.

Xhafer:

And he would have been okay in the long-term.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Hm.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And then number three, we talked about it.

Xhafer:

It's him getting drunk and.

Xhafer:

Effectively killing himself via Dzhokhar.

Laura:

Yeah, he has to just give up and surrender to death, basically.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And surrender to I'd say his most feared enemy.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Not just that he's fearing death, but he also clearly does fear the NARKN.

Laura:

You don't.

Laura:

Ah, go and try to destroy something entirely that doesn't scare you.

Laura:

In some way, so.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So that's my spoily town.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I was thinking, we . We've got to make sure that we keep these in mind and as the

Laura:

things roll up, We we've got a reference back to lady Morella and her talk.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

So keep it in mind.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Well, that's an episode.

Laura:

Yup.

Laura:

See you next
