Welcome, listeners! It’s me, Michelle Walters, and my co-host, Cinthia Varkevisser. We’re here with a special Thanksgiving week episode of Mind Power Meets Mystic. And—no surprise—we’re talking about gratitudes, because it’s that time of year when thankfulness is on everyone’s minds... aside from eating too much.
Cinthia Varkevisser:
Absolutely! But we’re turning the concept of gratitude on its head, which is my favorite thing in the world. Usually, we focus on what we’re grateful for—like we did last year, beautifully. This time, we’re diving into how gratitudes can be used as a tool. It’s not just wonderful; it’s useful. That perspective makes me so happy.
Michelle Walters:
Love that. So what’s the first way you’d share with our audience about using gratitudes as a tool?
Cinthia Varkevisser:
I like to think of gratitude as a gateway. Before any intuitive or spiritual work, I start with gratitude. It clears my energy, empties my cup, and refocuses me on what I have rather than what’s bothering me. This creates a build-up of energy, helping me set intentions with generosity and focus on my client. What about you?
Michelle Walters:
For me, gratitude is a fantastic icebreaker. Whether it’s a meeting or a class, asking people what they’re grateful for reveals their hearts. You learn what truly matters to them—and it’s often way more meaningful than standard introductions like “Hi, I’m Joan, and I’m a teacher.”
Cinthia Varkevisser:
That’s brilliant. Gratitude connects people heart-to-heart, bypassing ego and one-upmanship. Even if you’re not grateful for the same things, gratitude fosters understanding.
Michelle Walters:
Cinthia, what’s your next gratitude tool?
Cinthia Varkevisser:
I call it the “1-2-3 Method.” Start with one heartfelt gratitude—something small but meaningful. Then, acknowledge two people sincerely. Finally, reflect on three things that went well in your day. It’s simple, grounding, and keeps gratitude heartfelt.
Michelle Walters:
I love that—especially how it shifts your focus even if your day wasn’t perfect.
Cinthia Varkevisser:
Exactly. Even if the only thing that went well was feeling warm and toasty at bedtime, it’s a meaningful gratitude.
Michelle Walters:
Here’s another approach, inspired by my book, An Alignment of Spirit: Finding Work You Love. One chapter explores expressing gratitude before things manifest. It’s powerful for setting intentions—like saying, “Thank you for [desired outcome],” even if it hasn’t happened yet.
Cinthia Varkevisser:
That’s like combining gratitude with an affirmation. It builds energy and momentum.
Michelle Walters:
Yes! For example, when my husband Bruce needed a lung transplant, I kept affirming, “Thank you, God, for Bruce’s lung transplant.” It anchored my belief and made the possibility feel real.
Cinthia Varkevisser:
I love that. Gratitude creates space for solutions and untangles overwhelming emotions.
Michelle Walters:
Absolutely. Gratitude is grounding, even in anxious or overwhelming situations.
Cinthia Varkevisser:
Lastly, I’m grateful for ass-kickings. Painful lessons can clarify priorities and propel us forward—though, of course, not every day, Source!
Michelle Walters:
Be careful what you wish for!
Cinthia Varkevisser:
True. But ass-kickings remind us what’s important. Gratitude for those moments shifts us from pain to growth.
Michelle Walters:
Beautifully said.
