Speaker A:
Welcome to Second Act Travels.
Speaker A:
I'm your host, Elizabeth, and this is the
Speaker A:
podcast providing travel information and inspiration for those in their second act of
Speaker A:
life.
Speaker A:
Thanks for joining us.
Speaker B:
Well, you're probably wondering why I started the podcast Second Act Travels in
Speaker B:
the first place.
Speaker B:
Why have a podcast for people over 50?
Speaker B:
You know, time is such a funny thing.
Speaker B:
It starts off really slowly when you're younger.
Speaker B:
I mean, when you're 10, doesn't school day feel like it lasts forever?
Speaker B:
And doesn't it feel like it takes forever to get to your birthday?
Speaker B:
But then as you get older, it seems like your birthday comes around a lot quicker each year.
Speaker B:
Every trip around the sun feels just a little bit faster.
Speaker B:
And you realize that time is not a limitless resource.
Speaker B:
It's a really precious resource.
Speaker B:
So I want to make the most of it.
Speaker B:
I think we all do as we get older.
Speaker B:
We just want to make the most of time.
Speaker B:
For me, it's about focusing on your passions.
Speaker B:
My passion has always been traveling.
Speaker B:
I started traveling when I was 18 years old as
Speaker B:
part of an exchange program.
Speaker B:
Since then, I've traveled with my friends,
Speaker B:
I've traveled with my husband, I've traveled with my children, and I've even traveled
Speaker B:
alone.
Speaker B:
All of the experiences with people have been wonderful.
Speaker B:
And over the course of the years, I've traveled to 15 countries.
Speaker A:
The other reason I began this podcast is is because when I began researching
Speaker A:
my trips, I noticed that other podcasts and blogs seemed to be written by 20 or 30
Speaker A:
something year olds.
Speaker A:
Not all of them, but definitely the majority.
Speaker A:
And that's great.
Speaker A:
But I think younger people have a different perspective than someone in their second act.
Speaker A:
And I felt like we were a bit of an underrepresented community in the travel
Speaker A:
podcast world.
Speaker A:
So I created this podcast specifically for us.
Speaker A:
Being retired or an empty nester can mean an enormous amount of freedom when it comes to
Speaker A:
travel.
Speaker A:
I mean, think about it.
Speaker A:
When you're raising your children, you're really tied to the school schedule.
Speaker A:
You can only travel during school breaks or summer vacation.
Speaker A:
But now that my kids have grown, I can travel anytime I want.
Speaker A:
And that has enormous benefits when it comes down to travel options.
Speaker A:
So there's plenty of life left within us, and I want to make the most of it by dreaming
Speaker A:
about and planning travel adventures and then giving you the inspiration and information to
Speaker A:
do the same.
Speaker A:
Over the past few years, I found tons of online and print resources for planning
Speaker A:
travel, and I'll be sharing these with you.
Speaker A:
Don't worry, every resource I reference will
Speaker A:
be written in the show notes so you can explore them at your convenience.
Speaker A:
You My next podcast will be in two weeks and it will discuss the benefits of off season
Speaker A:
travel, which is becoming more and more popular and a lot of people don't realize the
Speaker A:
benefits of it.
Speaker A:
So I want to discuss it in some detail.
Speaker A:
Again, not more than 10 minutes.
Speaker A:
