Shownotes

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas get called to jury duty once again, this time in the state of Alabama, where a white lawyer is set to defend an innocent African American man in a rape trial.

It's week 2 of the Courtroom section of our BREAKING THE LAW, BREAKING THE LAW arc, and we of course of are talking the famous 1962 adaptation of Harper Lee's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, starring Gregory Peck as the revered hero, Atticus Finch.

It's a classic film, based on an even more so classic book, that has us diving in to the author's real life connection to these characters, her much different original version that was released as a sequel near the end of her life, her friendship with Truman Capote, and having us question the meaning of the book and its title. We also dive into the stage play adaptations, debate if Atticus Finch should be revered, and more of our favourite courtroom films.

Please forgive us, for this episode gets a bit silly at times, but we were both very sick and delirious while recording it.

“Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ’em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
