Shownotes

Desires: all those things that make life full, exciting, and full of flavor! A lot of people have shut down their desires because there are things they’ve been hoping for that haven’t come true.

The wanting energy creates struggle, not believing you can have it, and that creates a lot of wobble.

Are you putting constrictions and conditions on money? Are you holding back on desires because you feel they have to happen a certain way? Are you making decisions based on what you truly desire or what you’re conditioned to want?

Fear will come and try to lock you out of the things you’re designed to have.

Your assignment for this episode is to add “and” to the things you desire.  You can have freedom and time. You can have a delicious meal and good health, for example.

Melisa Alaba:

Welcome.

Melisa Alaba:

Welcome to the rich and worthy podcast.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm your host, Melissa Alba.

Melisa Alaba:

And I am so excited to be with you today.

Melisa Alaba:

Today.

Melisa Alaba:

We're talking about desires.

Melisa Alaba:

Yes.

Melisa Alaba:

All of those things that make life full, make life exciting, all of those rich

Melisa Alaba:

experiences that gives your life flavor.

Melisa Alaba:

So I just came off the cuffs of doing a five day Facebook live and which I share.

Melisa Alaba:

How to see your manifestations come true, even faster and quicker

Melisa Alaba:

through your vision boards.

Melisa Alaba:

I know people are always, you know, vision boarding.

Melisa Alaba:

It's a big thing.

Melisa Alaba:

I started vision boarding and 2003 was my first vision board.

Melisa Alaba:

And it was just amazing for me to put those thoughts on to paper and then

Melisa Alaba:

use my thoughts and create, you know, grab the great pictures and put them

Melisa Alaba:

on a board and create these boards.

Melisa Alaba:

I also would create little photo albums.

Melisa Alaba:

I also create, cause I just went crazy with this.

Melisa Alaba:

I just thought it was amazing.

Melisa Alaba:

I remember taking a picture of her home.

Melisa Alaba:

Cutting it out and putting like a magnet on it and put it on my refrigerator.

Melisa Alaba:

And I wound up living in at home by the way, like two years later,

Melisa Alaba:

I had that home for 10 years.

Melisa Alaba:

In Bolingbrook, Illinois, and it was my dream home.

Melisa Alaba:

So I want to talk to you about desires, right?

Melisa Alaba:

Opening up desires, having more, you know, we recently we

Melisa Alaba:

talked about, uh, letting go.

Melisa Alaba:

We also talked about being in a space of expansion rather

Melisa Alaba:

than a space of constriction.

Melisa Alaba:

And so in this space of desire, A lot of times, I see folks who shut

Melisa Alaba:

down your desires because there are things that you've been hoping for,

Melisa Alaba:

wishing for that have not come true.

Melisa Alaba:

And so you've just decided, well, that is not for me, you know, uh,

Melisa Alaba:

traveling across the world in a jet.

Melisa Alaba:

Or even first class, or even just getting out this country, right.

Melisa Alaba:

Like going, traveling on his country for the first time in going to one

Melisa Alaba:

of my favorite places, France and Italy, which I'll actually, you

Melisa Alaba:

know, be traveling to this year.

Melisa Alaba:

It seems like that's for someone else.

Melisa Alaba:

Right?

Melisa Alaba:

You've dreamed it, but it hasn't manifested.

Melisa Alaba:

And I want to share with you that it's not for someone else desires are

Melisa Alaba:

something that we are designed to make.

Melisa Alaba:

Literally the Bible even tells you, God says, I'll give you

Melisa Alaba:

the desires of your heart.

Melisa Alaba:

Right?

Melisa Alaba:

So here is the keys to that.

Melisa Alaba:

The desires of your heart.

Melisa Alaba:

What are you desiring?

Melisa Alaba:

We should have so many desires.

Melisa Alaba:

Like every day when you wake up, you have these desires and

Melisa Alaba:

these desires keep us going.

Melisa Alaba:

And they bless us.

Melisa Alaba:

And we see these desires manifesting all the time.

Melisa Alaba:

Now desires are very different from wants.

Melisa Alaba:

By the time it gets into a state of want,

Melisa Alaba:

it's a different type of energy.

Melisa Alaba:

It's almost an energy of struggle.

Melisa Alaba:

And it's also an energy of, I don't know if I can have.

Melisa Alaba:

That's what creates a lot of wobble wood folks.

Melisa Alaba:

I don't know if I'm going to be able to have this thing.

Melisa Alaba:

And so I want it, I want it, but I don't know if it's going to come true.

Melisa Alaba:

Whereas when we stay in a state of desires, we're just putting it out there.

Melisa Alaba:

You know what I'm saying?

Melisa Alaba:

I desire a fine looking man who is emotionally together and can, um, share

Melisa Alaba:

with me some rich life experiences.

Melisa Alaba:

That's a desire.

Melisa Alaba:

Right?

Melisa Alaba:

And so now when that comes.

Melisa Alaba:

Right.

Melisa Alaba:

I can literally sit in that and recognize it because I put it out as a desire.

Melisa Alaba:

So when I see it, I recognize it.

Melisa Alaba:

When I see the G five wagon, this is just something I love guys.

Melisa Alaba:

I've loved GFI wagon since I don't know, early 2003.

Melisa Alaba:

I remember putting it on my board and it was like my totem car.

Melisa Alaba:

And I remember having this tussle between desire and want all of a sudden.

Melisa Alaba:

And it happened because it was like, this was on my board and I

Melisa Alaba:

don't see why this hasn't come true.

Melisa Alaba:

Now

Melisa Alaba:

meanwhile, I wasn't doing any active work to see it happen.

Melisa Alaba:

And we'll talk about that.

Melisa Alaba:

w What ended up happening with that particular desire?

Melisa Alaba:

So I didn't realize, okay.

Melisa Alaba:

I think the G wagon is just atotem for me, meaning like as a symbol

Melisa Alaba:

to say that I'm on the right track.

Melisa Alaba:

So years later, you know, I'm going through this divorce, which talk about.

Melisa Alaba:

Um, found out I have cancer and I decided, Hey, I'm going to go for it.

Melisa Alaba:

Look, if I'm going to go out, I'm going to go out with a bang.

Melisa Alaba:

So I had some money that I had invested and I took some money out and I was

Melisa Alaba:

like, me and my kids, me and my three girls were going to travel the world.

Melisa Alaba:

I had always wanted to travel internationally.

Melisa Alaba:

And my ex-husband.

Melisa Alaba:

You know, w he would always say we were going to do this,

Melisa Alaba:

that, but it never manifested.

Melisa Alaba:

And I didn't do it.

Melisa Alaba:

I still was a traveler.

Melisa Alaba:

I traveled a lot domestically, but I didn't go into nationally because

Melisa Alaba:

I was saving this experience.

Melisa Alaba:

I really wanted to experience this with him.

Melisa Alaba:

And therefore I was holding back on that experience because I wanted to have.

Melisa Alaba:

With my partner.

Melisa Alaba:

So long story short, I'm divorced now.

Melisa Alaba:

And the first thing I thought of was I am going to travel the world.

Melisa Alaba:

So 2015 is when I started my journey of traveling and my first international

Melisa Alaba:

trip, I took my three girls.

Melisa Alaba:

And when I say we went all over for several weeks, we went all over.

Melisa Alaba:

We had opportunity to go to Paris.

Melisa Alaba:

We stayed in Paris.

Melisa Alaba:

We went to London.

Melisa Alaba:

Um, We, we went to Italy four day trip.

Melisa Alaba:

We just really enjoyed.

Melisa Alaba:

And since then we have, uh, travel international several times.

Melisa Alaba:

We've had the opportunity to go to, uh, Sweden, uh, Iceland.

Melisa Alaba:

Uh, and of course London is one of our favorite spots and going there and

Melisa Alaba:

then me, myself, you know, I've been.

Melisa Alaba:

To ABI Dhabi and Dubai and, uh, Amsterdam.

Melisa Alaba:

I was just trying to think of all the places that I've been.

Melisa Alaba:

Uh, I've been a lot of places and they've all just been fun.

Melisa Alaba:

So I say all that to say, one of the things that I realize is that with

Melisa Alaba:

that desire, I was holding myself back from experiencing it because

Melisa Alaba:

I had attached something to it.

Melisa Alaba:

I had attached to that desire.

Melisa Alaba:

I must being relationship and how my partner go with me.

Melisa Alaba:

So when the opportunities came to travel abroad, I did not do it because

Melisa Alaba:

I wanted to do it with my partner.

Melisa Alaba:

So I see that a lot with folks too, is another way in which they,

Melisa Alaba:

they tampered down a desires or they put a condition around it.

Melisa Alaba:

So again, desires are here for us and they awaken us and they also

Melisa Alaba:

help us to give money a direction.

Melisa Alaba:

So many times I meet folks and it's like, well, how much would

Melisa Alaba:

you want to make this year?

Melisa Alaba:

Cause that's always a question for me because whatever you desire,

Melisa Alaba:

it has to come in the past.

Melisa Alaba:

We just embody it and then we allow that flow to happen.

Melisa Alaba:

Right.

Melisa Alaba:

So how much do you want to make this year?

Melisa Alaba:

300,000.

Melisa Alaba:

Okay.

Melisa Alaba:

Well what would you spend it?

Melisa Alaba:

And some folks will, you know, immediately say I'm going to save 150,000

Melisa Alaba:

of it and then I'll spend the rest.

Melisa Alaba:

Well, why aren't you saving 150,000?

Melisa Alaba:

I don't know.

Melisa Alaba:

It felt like the right thing to say.

Melisa Alaba:

I've been programmed to believe that's the number I should have.

Melisa Alaba:

And so what I'll ask you to do is lose constriction around.

Melisa Alaba:

Yup.

Melisa Alaba:

Lose constrictions around money, lose this thought in this process of how

Melisa Alaba:

you're supposed to do life and really get into what do you desire to have and why?

Melisa Alaba:

Like, why, why is that important?

Melisa Alaba:

So for me, having money stocked up is important because I want to

Melisa Alaba:

leave a legacy for my daughter.

Melisa Alaba:

Having money stocked up is because I'm a mode.

Melisa Alaba:

Now you guys know that not a grandmother, but a Mo Momo.

Melisa Alaba:

And I came up with that cause Mo money, grandma should grandmas should always

Melisa Alaba:

have it when their grandkids desire it.

Melisa Alaba:

And that is what my grandparents did for me.

Melisa Alaba:

They had a home that I could always go to and warm food that I could always have.

Melisa Alaba:

And if it was anything that I needed from a new dress to get my hair done.

Melisa Alaba:

One of my grandmothers were going to take care of that.

Melisa Alaba:

And so I knew when I became a grandmother, that was the thing I wanted them to always

Melisa Alaba:

know that Moe has it, whatever you need.

Melisa Alaba:

I got you.

Melisa Alaba:

So money for me has that purpose of lineage of legacy of I was put

Melisa Alaba:

here on earth and I want to be able to leave something special.

Melisa Alaba:

And I say for a lot of my clients is something special, could be a property.

Melisa Alaba:

The something special could be insurance policy, that something

Melisa Alaba:

special could be your Gucci collection.

Melisa Alaba:

I mean, it is valuable.

Melisa Alaba:

You guys do know that, right.

Melisa Alaba:

So, um, but it goes back to, again, just this whole idea

Melisa Alaba:

of, you know, desires, right.

Melisa Alaba:

This whole idea of, what do you want your money to do?

Melisa Alaba:

And why do you have the desires that you have?

Melisa Alaba:

So in desiring, whatever it is, is so important, not to have attachment

Melisa Alaba:

to it coming true, but just to make the list of the desires, you know.

Melisa Alaba:

The other day we were out, we went to a Hawks game and my youngest desire

Melisa Alaba:

that we have floor seat tickets.

Melisa Alaba:

She said it, we had 200 level seat tickets, but I said, well, you know what

Melisa Alaba:

to do, which means you have the desire.

Melisa Alaba:

You give it gratitude and you just allow it to be, she said, okay.

Melisa Alaba:

We didn't talk about it anymore.

Melisa Alaba:

The game was probably like the next week or the week after.

Melisa Alaba:

Soon as we get into the stadium that was state farm arena, we,

Melisa Alaba:

you know, scan our tickets.

Melisa Alaba:

We're on our way up to our seats.

Melisa Alaba:

This nice looking gentleman comes over to me as I'm headed upstairs.

Melisa Alaba:

And he said, are you going upstairs?

Melisa Alaba:

And I said, yeah, I'm going upstairs.

Melisa Alaba:

And then he says, uh, are you seated up there?

Melisa Alaba:

And I said, yeah, we're seated up there.

Melisa Alaba:

You know, like, okay.

Melisa Alaba:

And he said, would you like to join me

Melisa Alaba:

in the player's club?

Melisa Alaba:

And I'm like the player's club.

Melisa Alaba:

He said, oh yeah, I'm a season ticket holder.

Melisa Alaba:

And three of my family members are not going to be able to make it.

Melisa Alaba:

Um, you guys look like a fun group and I wanted to just bless you with that.

Melisa Alaba:

Is that okay.

Melisa Alaba:

Okay.

Melisa Alaba:

Of course.

Melisa Alaba:

It's okay.

Melisa Alaba:

We love upgrades.

Melisa Alaba:

We all were like, you know, for my, my middle daughter to my youngest.

Melisa Alaba:

Yes.

Melisa Alaba:

Yes.

Melisa Alaba:

And so he, you know, gave us the tickets, which were digital.

Melisa Alaba:

So he got us, our emails sent us over to tickets.

Melisa Alaba:

We went and got our wristband.

Melisa Alaba:

And next thing, you know, like I said, we're, we're

Melisa Alaba:

floorside, enjoying everything.

Melisa Alaba:

And my youngest and my middle are like, we always manifest

Melisa Alaba:

cool ass ish when we're together.

Melisa Alaba:

Now they didn't say it quite like that, but they were like cool stuff.

Melisa Alaba:

And I said, we do, because I've taught them the secret of having the

Melisa Alaba:

desire and then just letting it go.

Melisa Alaba:

Like you don't have to hold on tightly to it.

Melisa Alaba:

So I want you guys just to think about what desires do you have, what

Melisa Alaba:

are some things that you've really wanted to manifests in your business?

Melisa Alaba:

Maybe last year you made a hundred thousand and this year you really would

Melisa Alaba:

desire that to be 200 K maybe having that additional money will allow you

Melisa Alaba:

to save more for your retirement, maybe because you've been behind and

Melisa Alaba:

you know, who knows life happened.

Melisa Alaba:

I know for me, cancer happened, a divorce happened.

Melisa Alaba:

The economy failed in 2008, a whole host of things happen, but I decided

Melisa Alaba:

that I wasn't going to say stuck.

Melisa Alaba:

I decided that life continues because it does, I don't care if you're

Melisa Alaba:

sick or healthy life continues.

Melisa Alaba:

And I decided that I was going to create a new bounty on life.

Melisa Alaba:

I would not sit by and just allow life to pass me by, but I was going

Melisa Alaba:

to experience it in its fullness.

Melisa Alaba:

I was going to take some calculated risk in my business, like work

Melisa Alaba:

with the best people, do the best, work, challenged myself.

Melisa Alaba:

To be a business owner and to make more money each and every year.

Melisa Alaba:

I was going to challenge myself to have property again, after my divorce.

Melisa Alaba:

I was going to challenge myself to have investments again.

Melisa Alaba:

And I knew I didn't have a lot of time to make this up.

Melisa Alaba:

You know, I'm in my forties now.

Melisa Alaba:

So the money at accumulated in my twenties was gone.

Melisa Alaba:

Cancer treatment and going through that process and getting well and getting

Melisa Alaba:

healed had taken a lot, which I'm grateful and thankful for the money I

Melisa Alaba:

had accumulated to be able to go through that experience with the ease that I had.

Melisa Alaba:

So now I'm in this space where I'm like healed and I it's time

Melisa Alaba:

for me to go back out and fishing.

Melisa Alaba:

And so I had to think about what was the quickest and the

Melisa Alaba:

fastest way for me to get there.

Melisa Alaba:

And that required me to shift my mind in a lot of different ways and to

Melisa Alaba:

really work on some money mindset, but it also required me to open up

Melisa Alaba:

my idea and my mind to new ideas.

Melisa Alaba:

And two new desires.

Melisa Alaba:

Like I had to shift this old thinking of shutting down because

Melisa Alaba:

that's what our mind wants to do.

Melisa Alaba:

When you've had bad experiences, it wants to shut down desires.

Melisa Alaba:

It wants to say, don't go for that purse girl.

Melisa Alaba:

You should be saving and putting it over here.

Melisa Alaba:

Don't get that bins this year.

Melisa Alaba:

You should be doing so-and-so so-and-so.

Melisa Alaba:

And I was like, no, I'm going to get the bins and I'm going to

Melisa Alaba:

make another 50 K in my business.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm going to get the bag and then I'm going to bring in

Melisa Alaba:

another client this week.

Melisa Alaba:

I am going to do all of the things because life is not about ifs

Melisa Alaba:

for me, you know, or one offs.

Melisa Alaba:

It's about ands.

Melisa Alaba:

I get to have money and time.

Melisa Alaba:

I get to work in my purpose, and then I'll also get to take time off right.

Melisa Alaba:

And relax and enjoy it.

Melisa Alaba:

So a lot of us have been conditioned that, you know, we see things that we

Melisa Alaba:

want, but then it's like, how do we do it?

Melisa Alaba:

How do we take the vacation when I need to keep working?

Melisa Alaba:

Because again, the conditioning says, okay, you have that desire.

Melisa Alaba:

That's great.

Melisa Alaba:

But my conditioning says I'm always supposed to be working.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm not supposed to relax or enjoy, or my conditioning could be, I'm

Melisa Alaba:

always relaxing and enjoying, and I never actually do the work out

Melisa Alaba:

of fear that it may actually work.

Melisa Alaba:

I see people doing that as well.

Melisa Alaba:

Right.

Melisa Alaba:

The opposite.

Melisa Alaba:

The business plan may actually work.

Melisa Alaba:

If I literally actualize it and go for it, but I'm scared.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm like, I'm holy shit.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm scared.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm, I'm scared of what this could mean.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm scared of actually getting what I desire.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm scared that once I have the money.

Melisa Alaba:

Oh, my God, it's nothing holding me back.

Melisa Alaba:

Now, I have to get on a flight and go out of the country and I have

Melisa Alaba:

never been out of the country.

Melisa Alaba:

I don't even know what that looks like.

Melisa Alaba:

I don't even speak the language, whatever the case, right.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm scared if I buy the car.

Melisa Alaba:

I remember my first Car and just being scared.

Melisa Alaba:

Like, can I keep up the maintenance?

Melisa Alaba:

What if something happens?

Melisa Alaba:

I heard this is really expensive to take care of it.

Melisa Alaba:

It's like, what if something happens?

Melisa Alaba:

Like maybe this shouldn't be something I do, right.

Melisa Alaba:

So fear will come in and try to lock you out of all the good things

Melisa Alaba:

that you are designed to have.

Melisa Alaba:

It happens for people to and relationships, right?

Melisa Alaba:

You meet this guy or, you know, meet the person and you're like,

Melisa Alaba:

oh my God, there it, now you start over analyzing every aspect.

Melisa Alaba:

It's everything.

Melisa Alaba:

You've always desired, but now all of a sudden it's like, well,

Melisa Alaba:

what if they do this or that?

Melisa Alaba:

Cause you remember the old thing.

Melisa Alaba:

So I just kind of want to share with you is that this is the

Melisa Alaba:

season to open up the desires.

Melisa Alaba:

And to go for it and to walk past any of those limiting beliefs and

Melisa Alaba:

start creating new beliefs of ans.

Melisa Alaba:

So that's your assignment this week.

Melisa Alaba:

I want you just to say, and every time that you desire something and

Melisa Alaba:

you come up with a reason, why not?

Melisa Alaba:

I want you to play with the, and I can have this and that also.

Melisa Alaba:

I can have a very successful career,

Melisa Alaba:

and a man who gets it, I can have freedom and time.

Melisa Alaba:

Yeah.

Melisa Alaba:

I can have a delicious meal and good health, you know, so yeah, until next time

Melisa Alaba:

I love you guys go out and continue to be the rich and worthy woman that you are.
