Welcome back to another More Yourself Monday episode.

I am Kate Moore Youssef.

Speaker C:

I'm here with you on these shorter episodes.

Speaker B:

A bit more sort of insightful coaching.

Speaker A:

Style and reflective episodes.

Speaker A:

And today's episode, I wanted to share.

Speaker C:

With you part of my talk that I did during the interview ADHD Women's Wellbeing Live event.

Speaker C:

And you've probably been hearing a few of the different sessions.

Speaker C:

I'm sharing them with you.

Speaker C:

And I wanted to share my session because I felt like it was actually something that I really enjoyed writing, but I also really enjoyed delivering it as well.

Speaker C:

You can really feel like you're in the room.

Speaker C:

But today I want to share with you the idea behind post diagnosis growth.

Speaker C:

It's kind of a similar notion to post traumatic growth, where we find ourselves in a challenging situation, a difficult situation, and what we choose to do in that situation.

Speaker C:

And I know that many people after an ADHD diagnosis, they feel quite lost, grieving, sad, resentful, angry.

Speaker C:

We really go through quite a lot of the motions, hence the word emotions.

Speaker C:

That's like energy that's moving and it's not static.

Speaker C:

And we're not sort of staying in this one place.

Speaker C:

We're going through an experience of what it feels like to finally understand ourselves through a completely different narrative.

Speaker C:

And I go through this and I created a bit of a formula and.

Speaker B:

The formula really goes through the letters.

Speaker C:

Between A and G. So we focus on different words.

Speaker B:

And that really bring to me what.

Speaker C:

It feels like to go through this process of getting the diagnosis, finally understanding what is going on and what that brings to us.

Speaker C:

I delivered it through different words and analogies.

Speaker C:

And I really hope that you enjoy this clip from my talk because I wanted it to feel like something that enables you to feel like you're growing, that enables you to feel like you're expanding, that we're not stuck, stuck in this place.

Speaker C:

That we're able to use our diagnosis and use this time as a catapult or a springboard to a new chapter in our lives.

Speaker C:

This is about a positivity.

Speaker C:

It's not diminishing the challenges, it's not diminishing what we have gone through throughout our lives, but using this diagnosis as a moment in time to pause and to breathe and to offer ourselves lots of self, compassion and love, but also find a way that we can move through this with more growth, expansion, more positivity and help us move towards a more constructive and more confident Life as.

Speaker B:

We navigate all of this now, none.

Speaker C:

Of this is linear.

Speaker C:

None of this is plain sailing.

Speaker C:

We have our good days, we have our more difficult days.

Speaker C:

But I truly believe that many of us who have been waiting all our lives for an explanation and understanding away from us being the problem, us having the deficit, us being the reason or the issue as to why we can't do certain things or struggle with certain things.

Speaker C:

I really hope that this helps you, wherever you are right now in your diagnosis journey.

Speaker B:

So here it is.

Speaker C:

I hope that you can help yourself relearn, better understand, and look forward to a life with this new awareness of adhd.

Speaker B:

Today's event for me, when I was visualizing it, I wanted it to be like, okay, so now we've got a diagnosis, we've got an awareness, we've got an understanding, but now what?

Speaker B:

And that I'm not a psychologist, but I know that there's a psychological term of post traumatic growth.

Speaker B:

I'm sure Hannah knows way more about it than I do.

Speaker B:

But I wanted to be able to lean into something that I have seen, and I'm seeing, and perhaps in this room as well, of a post diagnosis, my post ADHD diagnosis gentle growth formula.

Speaker B:

It doesn't roll off the tongue as well as I thought it would, but in my brain I was like, how.

Speaker C:

Can I offer a formula that will.

Speaker B:

Help people acknowledge and see where they are to get to a point where there is hope?

Speaker B:

And that's what I really want to be able to give today.

Speaker B:

Throughout everything that we offer you, I want you to leave today through the challenges and the difficulties that there is always hope.

Speaker B:

This is about, wow, okay, I've understood something about myself that I've.

Speaker C:

I didn't know.

Speaker B:

I didn't know for so long.

Speaker B:

And now I'm able to step forwards with a new lens, a new vision and a new perspective.

Speaker B:

And that's what I hope to offer to you today.

Speaker B:

This formula is probably the most simple thing ever.

Speaker B:

It's no Einstein.

Speaker B:

What I want to be able to share with you today is I've tried to think of different ways of how our ADHD has shown up and does show up, but also what we can take from it.

Speaker B:

I'm very much a believer of everything that hits us in life, and there's so many things that hit us in life are there for us and not to us.

Speaker B:

And we need to take everything as a lesson and a way to grow, because otherwise life feels very, very difficult.

Speaker B:

And it's very hard to move forwards if we're Always thinking, well, why has that happened and how am I going to deal with that?

Speaker B:

And I try so hard because every one of us in this room, I know, has had either some difficult traumatic moments or layering of smaller traumatic moments or just difficulties and challenges.

Speaker B:

So today I want to say to you, the a of the formula is you are getting answers, you are getting this awareness, and the awareness is building and the awareness is so, so important because without any awareness, we would just keep going.

Speaker B:

We just keep hitting these blocks without understanding what those blocks are.

Speaker B:

We're looking for more authenticity now.

Speaker B:

Authenticity.

Speaker B:

The masking is we're able to release that slowly but surely let the mask down and lean into this authentic version of ourselves.

Speaker B:

Just being able to come more into an alignment of who we are, attention, recognizing where our attention has lied, how the difficulties with it and where we really don't struggle.

Speaker B:

You know, we say attention.

Speaker B:

ADHD is not a deficit of attention often it's so much of it because we're so interested in different things and we struggle sometimes to put the attention on the other things.

Speaker B:

But when we are interested, my goodness, we have a lot of attention.

Speaker B:

And then stepping into aligned action, how can we now, with this understanding, step into more aligned action that works for us and learn ways to adapt, learn ways to cope in ways that feel good to us.

Speaker B:

And we do this through the awareness.

Speaker B:

But also this is about self authority.

Speaker B:

This is about self leadership.

Speaker B:

This is about no longer standing for things that don't work for us anymore and bringing what we are knowing and learning and expanding into, into a direction, into a way of living that works for us, that works with us and no longer against us.

Speaker B:

And this is about acceptance and acknowledgement.

Speaker C:

So the acceptance of who we are,.

Speaker B:

But the acknowledgement of everything that we have gone through, everything that, you know, we've struggled with.

Speaker B:

And instead of being in this critical mode and judgment mode, it's like, how can I just lean into softer acceptance?

Speaker B:

So we have had burdens.

Speaker B:

We're on the bee now.

Speaker B:

We've had burdens that I mentioned before that we are, I think, ready to let go of now.

Speaker B:

I think we're ready to release some of these burdens.

Speaker B:

Belief systems that have no longer worked for us, belief systems that maybe have not come from us, you know, conditioning perhaps that has been part of our life, our family, our relationships, our careers.

Speaker B:

How can we change these belief systems now and lean into a different type of belief system that works with us, works with our brains and burnout?

Speaker B:

You know, we don't need to Be sat now in burnout.

Speaker B:

We don't need to.

Speaker B:

We can see the cycles.

Speaker B:

We can see them, we can see the triggers.

Speaker B:

We can understand our nervous system and bring ourselves back into more balance.

Speaker B:

And this is not about feeling balanced every day, every hour.

Speaker B:

This is about balance in a way that you are able to navigate the ups and downs with less extremes, which contributes to the burnout, the lots of big extreme energy and fluctuations that we're able to notice what balances out now, what grounds us.

Speaker B:

And this perhaps is putting some boundaries in place, knowing where our boundaries have been compromised and where we're able to say, no more.

Speaker B:

Be more boundaries, recognize what doesn't work for us, what depletes our energy and what is no longer working for us and hasn't worked for us.

Speaker B:

And then it's leaning into our brilliance.

Speaker B:

Because so, I mean, I'm so interested to hear from so many different women here in this room, but I know for a fact that I would say you're all brilliant in different ways.

Speaker B:

Whatever you do in life, whatever you've achieved and whatever you continue to do in your work, your.

Speaker B:

Your families, whatever that is, know that you're all brilliant.

Speaker B:

And maybe through this we get the breakthroughs.

Speaker B:

This is where we go, oh, okay, so I don't have to do life like this anymore.

Speaker B:

It's okay for me to do things differently.

Speaker B:

It's okay for me to show up differently.

Speaker B:

It's okay for me to work differently and do friendship differently.

Speaker B:

And seeing what those blocks have been seeing what those blocks, those invisible blocks that many of us have recognized, these blocks that have been there and we've just not been able to see them and notice what they are because we've not had the language, the articulation, the awareness.

Speaker B:

And it's counting our blessings.

Speaker B:

It's gratitude.

Speaker B:

It's leaning into the gratitude of all that we have done and all that we.

Speaker B:

Who we are and all that we have achieved and what we do have, and really focusing on that, because that is a fabulous way of wiring our brains for noticing the positive and very much not being in this sort of.

Speaker B:

I know we're going to talk about it with Hannah.

Speaker B:

The Default Mode Network, the DMN that loves to focus on the difficult and the negative and the hard and all the difficult things in life that we need to perhaps rewire our brains to look more for the gratitude without it being toxic positivity.

Speaker B:

So we've had the challenges, but now we're here for the connection.

Speaker B:

We're here in a room.

Speaker B:

We've got 54 women, plus all the other incredible speakers that we've got here and other people.

Speaker B:

We're here for connection.

Speaker B:

Just seeing you all chatting immediately, just talking to each other and the energy and the buzz in the room.

Speaker B:

I was so grateful and that's what I wanted.

Speaker B:

This is about finding connection with like minded women.

Speaker B:

So you can get the calm, you can get that clarity, perhaps lean into creativity as well.

Speaker B:

Finding more creativity in your life and not diminishing that and noticing what the creativity does to your well being.

Speaker B:

And perhaps, maybe you were always a creative person, but that's.

Speaker B:

You've not had that opportunity anymore and giving yourself that compassion, the compassion that so many of us haven't given ourselves.

Speaker B:

And it feels very hard to give ourselves and it feels very perhaps just not something that we've ever considered.

Speaker B:

And it is now time to give ourselves a compassion.

Speaker B:

Something that I really, really want to focus on is the consciousness.

Speaker B:

Because we can work on autopilot the whole time and it's we break things, stop things, we take a beat, we pause, we breathe.

Speaker B:

Instead of reacting, we're able to respond and we're able to recognize we're operating from a different consciousness now through an ADHD diagnosis.

Speaker B:

It's a new lens.

Speaker B:

I see it as a 2.0 chapter.

Speaker B:

It's like reconfiguring, recalibrating your brain, your nervous system, the way you look at life.

Speaker B:

It's genuine.

Speaker B:

I believe it can be a consciousness change.

Speaker B:

I know that we're stepping into a new world right now with everything that's going on.

Speaker B:

And we're in this new Chinese Year of the Fire Horse.

Speaker B:

And I know so much of it is based about, on collective community.

Speaker B:

It's about leaning into each other and not feeling alone anymore and working with your communities as well.

Speaker B:

This is about not doing more.

Speaker B:

I said that it's not about self development, but it's about this understanding that you're able to evolve and expand and.

Speaker C:

Change and that's okay.

Speaker B:

Divinity.

Speaker B:

I am quite spiritual and I do believe that when we are feeling quite unanchored and ungrounded, sometimes we feel that there's a spiritual kind of piece missing.

Speaker B:

And I'm not saying this is not about religion.

Speaker B:

This is about leaning into something bigger, bigger than us, having faith, having trust, having a place to go when life does feel quite out of control again, especially with everything that's going on in this world and having a space to just release, surrender, ask whatever that means to you.

Speaker B:

And I find that very calming to have a bit of faith in something a bit bigger than me.

Speaker B:

And I definitely did a bit of praying before today, before everyone came, just to hopefully make this, make this a day that for everybody to enjoy and to remember.

Speaker B:

And it's leaning into our differences, leaning into who we are.

Speaker B:

We're all neurodivergent women in one room and I can assure you that we're all very, very different.

Speaker B:

There's, you know, that famous saying of you'll meet one person with ADHD or DHD or autism and you'll never meet the same person.

Speaker B:

It shows up so differently.

Speaker B:

It shows up with different traits, it shows up in different spectrums and volumes and it can show up differently in different times of our life with hormones and everything.

Speaker B:

So please know that you may feel different to the people next to you, and that's okay.

Speaker B:

But we do have a common thread.

Speaker B:

We do have that common thread.

Speaker B:

And I would probably say that there's been quite a lot of determination in your lives that you've used and that drive to push yourselves to learn more and to evolve.

Speaker B:

So there's a lot of self celebration here, I hope.

Speaker A:
