We are going to talk about statistics…
Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics people are used to say…
Statistics is about collection, processing and analysis. It’s both a method and information for your presentation. Carina and Martin talk about how you can use statistics.

Welcome to Presentation Skills Q and A. I am Martin Lindeskook.
Martin:Hi Karina.
Carina:Hi Martin.
Carina:The usual question how are you today?
Martin:I'm fine, and yourself?
Carina:I'm really fine, I can tell you.
Carina:I visited a website the other day about
Carina:statistics and diseases.
Carina:We shouldn't talk about that of course.
Martin:But the pandemic is officially over now.
Carina:Yes, but when I looked at that page I found myself very healthy and I feel great.
Martin:Good for you.
Martin:I feel the same.
Martin:Also I'm using good products and right now I'm drinking yarabamat there that has some good
Martin:effects on your body and giving you a boost here.
Martin:So I will manage to do this recording together with you.
Martin:So yeah stats, stats and damn stats as you say in English and in expression.
Martin:You had these stats, lies and something else and you sent me a nice music video there about
Martin:small little lies that maybe will be the title of an episode.
Carina:Yeah, I don't know who has mentioned this before.
Carina:Both Mark Twain and the other guy, Thomas Henry Huxley I think catch this phrase lies,
Carina:damned lies and statistics.
Carina:We are going to talk about statistics today.
Martin:Yeah, so we will do it several episode as the robot thing.
Martin:Also that you could take it from different ways as you have a model about the pie chart
Martin:with different skills and so on in presentation that we have talked about
Martin:earlier.
Martin:So here you could also use pie charts and
Martin:different diagrams and whatnot and of course it's important to know what data in and data
Martin:out and so on.
Carina:Exactly.
Martin:Also we are curious and interested what the listeners are thinking about that.
Martin:But today we will do this maybe a general introduction and also talking specific about
Martin:podcasting with Statistics when it comes to audio.
Carina:Yeah, because it's really important because statistics is a platform, it's both
Carina:for collection and processing and analyzes and you can use it as a method and it also is
Carina:information and it's a big part of the information that you use when you are going to
Carina:present something.
Carina:So that's why Statistic is very interesting
Carina:for us.
Martin:Yeah, it is and you could use that as a podcast depending on what called podcast
Martin:Hotel or podcast host you have hosting company and in our case it's Captivate Captivate FM.
Martin:So I will include the affiliate link there also because it's very great service and one
Martin:of the things that they want to help a podcast is to grow their podcast and get data.
Martin:So you could for example present it to an advertiser or sponsor or partner.
Martin:Again, I will say as a new media advisor, to be realistic, to take the trend is your friend
Martin:and take time.
Martin:And also explain to potential sponsors how
Martin:audio is compared to maybe mainstream media, regular radio or regular newspapers and the
Martin:reach you could have.
Martin:Or how, in our case, that people voluntarily
Martin:or freely choose to tune in to us, to listen, to follow us to so called subscribe and to
Martin:press the Play button.
Carina:You really use statistics?
Martin:Yeah, I do that.
Martin:And again, I said it has to take some time.
Martin:Maybe if you start a podcast or let it be like three months or something like that, and then
Martin:you have a rolling statistics like every 28 days for every month.
Martin:Then in our case we publish it every two weeks.
Martin:So then you could see the so called peaks when we are publishing because now listeners are
Martin:following us or subscribing so they get a notification when it's published.
Martin:But then you have this long tail also that you get new listeners that listen to old episodes.
Martin:So in another separate episode we could be very open and transparent and talk about our
Martin:figures and stats and what we make out of them and get input of it.
Carina:This is for all podcasts?
Martin:Yeah, it is, yes.
Martin:And then of course, it could be that maybe
Martin:it's more encapsulated and maybe you don't get so much data depending on the podcast host you
Martin:have.
Martin:And we will also talk about this.
Martin:I could mention that they called a new project called Up Free Project that is an open
Martin:podcasting please in the.
Carina:Show notes because we are soon going to end this little small introduction.
Carina:But this is very important for you.
Carina:When you want to have new customers and keep
Carina:your customers, you can use it in many ways.
Martin:Should we say that's data that you could use as a gold mine.
Martin:And so at the end we can have this call to action to again download a new podcast app so
Martin:we could see that in the statistics that you are using new podcast apps.
Martin:And also again they send an note or send an email to you and contact us on LinkedIn and
Martin:tell us their stories and their thoughts about statistics.
Carina:Yes, that will be fine.
Carina:Should I say?
Carina:Really fine.
Martin:Great.
Carina:Nice to talk to you today, Martin.
Martin:Same, Karina.
Carina:And next time we continue in this.
Martin:Subject, we will do it.
Martin:So cheerio and bye for now.
Carina:Cheerio bye.
