Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2188 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2188 of our trek. The purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today’s Wisdom Nugget, I’m thrilled to guide you on this journey through the remarkable wisdom of the book of Proverbs. Today, we’re venturing into Proverbs 6:12-19, as translated in the New Living Translation. So lace up your hiking boots, and let’s navigate the treacherous terrain of these insightful verses together. Proverbs 6:12-19 provides us with a clear roadmap to avoid destructive paths and recognize the qualities that can lead us astray. It’s like having a compass that helps us navigate the complexities of life. Verse 12-15: “What are worthless and wicked people like? They are constant liars, signaling their deceit with a wink of the eye, a nudge of the foot, or the wiggle of fingers. Their perverted hearts plot evil, and they constantly stir up trouble. But they will be destroyed suddenly, broken in an instant beyond all hope of healing.” These verses reveal the characteristics of those who engage in dishonest and harmful behavior. The imagery used here, like winking, nudging, and wiggling fingers, portrays their cunning ways of manipulation. The writer warns of their intentions to cause chaos and disturbance. The swift and irreparable consequences of their actions emphasize the urgency of cultivating honesty and integrity. Verse 16-19: “There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.” These verses present a comprehensive list of qualities that the Lord finds detestable. This list encompasses a range of behaviors, from pride and falsehood to violence and division. It serves as a moral compass, guiding us away from paths that lead to destruction and harm. The writer’s intent is to equip us with the wisdom to avoid these destructive qualities and instead embrace virtues that build up and promote harmony. In a world full of distractions and conflicting messages, the wisdom found in Proverbs 6:12-19 acts as a steadfast guide, helping us make choices that align with our values and principles. As we pause to reflect on these verses, I encourage you to consider how they apply to your life. Are there areas where you’ve been tempted to engage in deceit or sow discord? How can you actively cultivate honesty and unity instead? Remember, wisdom is not just theoretical knowledge but a compass for practical, righteous living. Let’s summarize the key takeaways from Proverbs 6:12-19:
  1. Avoid Deceit: Beware of those who manipulate and deceive through gestures and words. Cultivate honesty and authenticity in all your interactions.
  2. Embrace Integrity: Reject the qualities that the Lord detests, such as pride, falsehood, and violence. Instead, pursue a heart that is committed to goodness and righteousness.
  3. Promote Unity: Actively work towards harmony and unity, both in your family and broader relationships. Strive to build bridges rather than sow discord.
