Shownotes

We have to keep our phones powered up or we can’t function like normal. We have to keep our cars full of gas or electric charge, or they become useless. Our goals work similarly. We have to fuel our goals the right way or they are just another dream that we have with nothing motivating their completion.

Today on the show we discuss the main fuel each of us should have behind our goals: purpose. Purpose is the why behind our goals and without it we will often fail to stay motivated and push through the hard part of our goals. We discuss how purpose fuels our goals and how to make sure you have the right kind of purpose in your life.

Purpose Starts with Self-Leadership/Ownership/Saying no to yourself/Self Discipline

  • We must choose to take responsibility for ourselves.
  • We cannot live on purpose unless we can lead ourselves
  • Our intentions won’t get past our appetites unless we lead ourselves

Purpose Lives Outside the Ordinary

  • Ordinary is part of a healthy life, but we have to make sure our purpose rises above the ordinary
  • Too often men make the ordinary parts of life become their purpose.
  • Making our purpose the ordinary things of life can distract us from living with a purpose that impacts our world
  • The biggest example is provision

Purpose is Sabotaged by Insecurity

  • Insecurity: Someone who is trying to prove themselves to others and themselves.
  • An insecure man cannot live on purpose because he is living to fulfill the security that is missing inside of himself.
  • Some men live their whole lives seeking affirmation they didn’t get as a child and it sabotages their life and their ability to pass on a positive legacy to their children
  • Their insecurity is never dealt with so they pass it on to the next generation

CHALLENGE:

  • Take some time to dig through your life and look at what is your purpose
  • Is your purpose survival? Is your purpose money?
  • What are you living for?
  • Don’t just accept what other people say a purpose is
  • Find the purpose God has designed you for and the motivation for your goals will flow from that
