Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1019 of our trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday.
Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy. For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection. You may utilize structured meditation practices. In my life meditation includes reading and reflecting on God’s Word and praying. It is a time, to renew my mind, refocus on what is most important, and make sure that I am nurturing my soul, mind, and body. As you come along with me on our trek each Meditation Monday, it is my hope and prayer that you too will experience a time for reflection and renewing of your mind.
When I ponder the vastness of space with its millions of galaxies in all their beauty in a universe that seems to go on forever, I am left with so many questions that no one has answers to. Is it really possible that we as humans could have possibly evolved over eons of time? Our Meditation Monday today I want us to reflect on…
Evidence of Things We Cannot See
We are told in Psalms 19:1, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.”
Not so long ago a school district here in the United States was ordered by a judge to remove stickers from biology textbooks that said that evolution was a theory, not a fact.
How interesting is this so-called day of diversity that we allow evolution to be taught as fact but are not allowed to teach that there might be another way to look at life—including Intelligent Design—even if not God!
Even Charles Darwin, considered the father of evolution, said over 150 years ago, “To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.”
We have made so many advances in understanding the human body since then. Darwin didn’t know nearly as much as we do about the sophistication of the signal processing from the eye and the nose. Not to mention the miracle of birth and millions of other miracles that we live with every day of our life.
There is so much noise and confusion in the world today that it is no wonder why so many people don’t understand the miracles of the smallest of atoms, or the vastness of our universe. How could it possibly have happened by random chance out of an empty void? The fact is that each one of us, for the most part, hears what we want to hear and turns a deaf ear to what we don’t want to hear. We also see what we want to see and turn a blind eye to what we don’t want to see. Belief is basically the same and not based on rational thinking. It’s based on choice. Generally speaking, we believe what we want to believe, what we are most comfortable with, and what we choose to believe.
True, none of us has ever seen God, and many use this as an excuse not to believe in him. I can’t see electrons either, but every time I turn on my light switch, I see the evidence of electrons in action. I can’t see cell signals, radio waves, or TV signals that come from satellites, or the wind, but I see and hear the evidence of their existence continually.
The fact is if we want to “see” God, we will because the evidence of his existence is everywhere we look. But if we don’t want to see him, we won’t.
Again, it is choice, not chance, that not only determines our belief in God but also our eternal destiny. So choose wisely. Your life depends on it. Eternity awaits us all. It all boils down to what we put our faith in.
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”
