The Puritans fashioned Thanksgiving after the Biblical holiday of Sukkot (the Festival of Booths). The Jewish people have been observing Sukkot for thousands of years. Let’s spend Thanksgiving being grateful for our freedoms and bounty. This is the perfect holiday to acknowledge that America was not an empty land when it was colonized by Europeans.
