Transcripts

Bobby Stone:

Um, mic check. Is this thing on? Are we talking?

Bobby Stone:

Is this happening? Is this? Oh? Is this dynasty logics? Oh, I'm

Bobby Stone:

dusting off my mind here. Wow. Can you hear me? Can you see me?

Bobby Stone:

Oh, they you I must this is actually happening your title.

Bobby Stone:

Holy shit. What's it how many weeks it has been? It's the

Bobby Stone:

quiet time we disappeared in the middle of the season fade into

Bobby Stone:

the night. Nice. I went on some vacation we just you know had a

Bobby Stone:

little Thanksgiving you know Happy belated Thanksgiving to

Bobby Stone:

you. I know I talked to you but you know, tells me over the over

Bobby Stone:

the airwaves now we

Bobby Stone:

should Alright, so Tommy? I know. Yeah, well, I was on

Bobby Stone:

vacation. Fantasy Football wasn't but the way my team's

Bobby Stone:

look. For the players that are alive, I'm happy about most of

Bobby Stone:

them are dead. So not surprised. And and I have I have two teams

Bobby Stone:

that are playoff that are in playoff contention. And I have

Bobby Stone:

one that is probably the worst record I've ever seen. From my

Bobby Stone:

own standpoint, but I'm okay with that. I am okay with that.

Bobby Stone:

Because it's it's the process of staying true to it. You rebuild,

Bobby Stone:

you're rebuilding. They're all on rebuilding. So the fact that

Bobby Stone:

they're even in I have two teams that shouldn't even be in the

Bobby Stone:

run for playoff contention yet. So I'm happy with that. But, you

Bobby Stone:

know, December, December, you and I have talked for the

Bobby Stone:

listeners who are listening to us again. You know, December,

Bobby Stone:

December has been an important month that you and I both talked

Bobby Stone:

about. And we're just getting started with December so you're

Bobby Stone:

gonna probably be playing some playoff football, right? I gotta

Bobby Stone:

imagine, how are you looking?

Tommy D.:

Let's let's start with this. Right. And this was a

Tommy D.:

perfect conversation I had with someone really good teams in

Tommy D.:

your league, those consistent championship contenders right,

Tommy D.:

which my roster has happened to be right now. A really good

Tommy D.:

early, kind of quiet in the middle. Yeah, took a couple of

Tommy D.:

losses in the middle of the season.

Tommy D.:

And then the last five, six weeks, my team has clicked

Tommy D.:

right. That's what's important. Middle of the season isn't as

Tommy D.:

important, right? As you think it is. You're going to get in

Tommy D.:

position. But you want to tweak that you want to be the guy

Tommy D.:

makes a statement early, comes out makes a statement at the

Tommy D.:

end. Speaking of dead rosters? Yes, I have a band aid job just

Tommy D.:

like everyone else. And amazingly, I've locked up all my

Tommy D.:

diversity playoff spots, locked up a couple buys. But still,

Tommy D.:

right. And this is what we're going to talk about. In this

Tommy D.:

show. We're going to talk about more strategy of what I'm

Tommy D.:

looking to do as a championship contender coming up in the next

Tommy D.:

couple of weeks. And what a team who's rebuilding like Bobby,

Tommy D.:

like what he's looking to possibly do in the next couple

Tommy D.:

of weeks because this is dynasty. You should always be

Tommy D.:

looking somewhere else. And there's two sides of it like

Tommy D.:

yeah, I'm obviously looking a little bit ahead. I'm trying to

Tommy D.:

tighten on my roster, get some depth. You know, we played a two

Tommy D.:

quarterback you know, three running backs for wide receivers

Tommy D.:

to tight ends kicker, full IDP, which is to DNS to D tackles.

Tommy D.:

Four linebackers, two corners and two safeties. So I've

Tommy D.:

already started that process of trying to back up my

Tommy D.:

quarterbacks.

Tommy D.:

I have Kyler Murray. I made sure I acquired Colt McCoy, obviously

Tommy D.:

a couple weeks ago. Little things like that you can look

Tommy D.:

ahead at longshot add routes, and add I made this week it was

Tommy D.:

a guy Josh Johnson, who we liked in the offseason, rookie

Tommy D.:

Lafayette I think, right, Louisiana Monroe. You know, he's

Tommy D.:

a long shot in Seattle, but those are the dark throws that

Tommy D.:

you might be able to dig into deep because listen, let's be

Tommy D.:

honest, there is no backs available like em but your band

Tommy D.:

aid and straws about let's play at Tevin Coleman. Mike Davis. I

Tommy D.:

mean, even a guy like Alex Collins, who's starting it's

Tommy D.:

eight nine points. It Listen, we all know the struggles real out

Tommy D.:

there. I have teams in college spots that, you know, no, Henry,

Tommy D.:

no McCaffrey. But if I have enough around it, and mean but

Tommy D.:

we talked about this a couple of times. I have a seat floor wide

Tommy D.:

receiver, right. So, you know from a championship point of

Tommy D.:

view, I'm trying to see if I can acquire a couple of people To

Tommy D.:

help me to run, am I going to be able to buy expensive running

Tommy D.:

backs? No, nobody's going to give them up. But I'm looking at

Tommy D.:

those teams who maybe are out, right and seeing where I can

Tommy D.:

acquire from that point of view, if I can get a backup, you know,

Tommy D.:

kind of, I'm trying to backup my running backs, I don't usually

Tommy D.:

do it. But at this point in the stretch, my advice to people is

Tommy D.:

backup your running backs, it's cheaper than trying to go buy a

Tommy D.:

starter of someone because no one has been nobody's you Mo.

Tommy D.:

Right?

Bobby Stone:

Get I think that's that that's more than fair. It's

Bobby Stone:

actually funny, because you and I were, were talking offline.

Bobby Stone:

But I have a lot of those guys, the younger guys that I'm

Bobby Stone:

watching and trying to let develop. And the other side of

Bobby Stone:

the foot is that I have a lot of guys who've died. So I just need

Bobby Stone:

guys who are playing now, because some of my projects are

Bobby Stone:

just that they're still projects. So, um,

Tommy D.:

and you're and you're right, and that's what that's

Tommy D.:

what projects are, there's different types of projects,

Tommy D.:

right, there's the project you have, that you hope will pan out

Tommy D.:

that year, there's a project that you know, isn't going to

Tommy D.:

hit till next year. And then there's a project that you can

Tommy D.:

acquire during the season and and see what happens. And I'm

Tommy D.:

glad you brought that up. Because this is the those are

Tommy D.:

the kind of guys that I'm looking for. And that's where,

Tommy D.:

you know, Josh Johnson comes into play. I'm looking at my

Tommy D.:

watch list. And looking what rookie did I add in my watch

Tommy D.:

list in July in June, that maybe was cut, maybe he's on. He's on

Tommy D.:

a practice squad and some of these team and he's a free

Tommy D.:

agent, you League? Those guys right now? Go look for that

Tommy D.:

third, fourth, run them backwards, because I'm not

Tommy D.:

trying to buy the backup like it's it's too pricey, because

Tommy D.:

nobody is running backs. They're all down. So you know, what is?

Tommy D.:

Is it a longshot? Yeah, but again, I'm I'm looking at him,

Tommy D.:

maybe I can use him in three weeks or two weeks, you know,

Tommy D.:

I'm looking at a little bit longer term play. We're on the

Tommy D.:

flip side, you're a guy or if you're building, you're looking

Tommy D.:

more to buy from my point of view. And so you're in the more

Tommy D.:

funner position than I am.

Bobby Stone:

Probably, except, you know, it's a matter of just

Bobby Stone:

doing that and making it fun. Because there are times where

Bobby Stone:

sometimes it's daunting, because you've got pieces that you

Tommy D.:

you're going to get gooses dance cards or roses.

Tommy D.:

Yeah, we

Bobby Stone:

got to get that partner. Yeah, yep. So you know,

Bobby Stone:

that's where that's where, you know, I think one of the things

Bobby Stone:

that we were just talking about a couple minutes ago, that I

Bobby Stone:

wanted to make sure that we hit on a little bit closer is a

Bobby Stone:

consistency component, what we were talking about, in January,

Bobby Stone:

February, March, going through the draft, we were talking about

Bobby Stone:

watch lists. Hey, we are in December, talking about watch

Bobby Stone:

lists again. So this is where it's starting to creep up. Back

Bobby Stone:

in the beginning of the show, I was saying you know, in

Bobby Stone:

December, this is where the guys that I am starting to really

Bobby Stone:

focus on and watch like, are they I'll give you a guy right

Bobby Stone:

now. JaJuan Johnson you know, New Orleans Saints. Tight End

Bobby Stone:

have Adam Trotman kind of in front of them. But honestly,

Bobby Stone:

they were

Tommy D.:

Hills your only hope with him. Hills, your old

Bobby Stone:

hill is my hope, because Winston would never

Bobby Stone:

throw to a tight end. But you know, long the bigger stride

Bobby Stone:

there is I'm trying to see which one was actually going to win.

Bobby Stone:

And now I have the ability in December to watch if he's either

Bobby Stone:

ain't going to develop or be Can I drop and go. So you know,

Tommy D.:

I would go and see he's a hold of staff. I think

Tommy D.:

it's Nick Barnett and they find out well I'll play him he's a

Tommy D.:

pure Titan and I like Johnson but Johnson is one of those guys

Tommy D.:

that we are in a van that oh van at sorry, van.

Bobby Stone:

I just thought we were talking barns as well and

Bobby Stone:

we were going into a defensive conversation already and I

Bobby Stone:

wasn't ready for it.

Tommy D.:

I was going back to the 90s a dive Barnett company

Tommy D.:

that French company pastel color, sorry, who's a little

Tommy D.:

retro. But anyways, Johnson's a hole for me because again, he's

Tommy D.:

a guy that we talk about we like he's an athletic tight end but

Tommy D.:

he's not a true tie that or he's not he hasn't honed those

Tommy D.:

skills. So when you see him that's why he's goal line. He's

Tommy D.:

very simple route CEO chip lock on the edge. So he's definitely

Tommy D.:

a hole to I expect a lot from now. I think He's a touchdown

Tommy D.:

dependent they don't throw them a lot in the middle of the field

Tommy D.:

you know because again he still learned that position and you

Tommy D.:

know that teams in flux anyways but you know nothing to do with

Tommy D.:

Nikki V is a solid reliable tight end and I like him he's

Tommy D.:

actually was a good pickup you know in that situation and

Tommy D.:

there's a lot of those guys that you can you can find out there

Tommy D.:

but yeah, I mean that's the patient's game you run dicey to

Tommy D.:

like Don't be so isn't a drop guys type. You know, we know

Tommy D.:

about this Titan save a couple years. I mean, I've had knocks

Tommy D.:

as a dad drafted him, you know? So I mean, it takes three years

Tommy D.:

you gotta wait three years sometimes when the payoff is the

Tommy D.:

payoffs worth it.

Bobby Stone:

I hate I still have OJ Howard on my, on my roster.

Bobby Stone:

Um, I don't know what to do with them after after the season. But

Tommy D.:

we'll get we'll get to that. I'm sure we'll have that

Tommy D.:

discussion many times in the offseason. So I'm gonna bring it

Tommy D.:

back. I'm gonna bring it back to that watchlist. Right that we

Tommy D.:

talked about that you brought up again, right? And the reason why

Tommy D.:

I see a guy like Josh Johnson who I attract you know, there's

Tommy D.:

not a lot of news out there and you know, sometimes you don't

Tommy D.:

see it because the guys on the practice squad or the name

Tommy D.:

doesn't popped up. But again, those guys that I'm talking

Tommy D.:

about, this is a time of year they come up right because this

Tommy D.:

is the time of year teams either are that injured and broken down

Tommy D.:

and or their season's over. So they're kind of getting a let's

Tommy D.:

see, we got let's see what this young kids got. What the hell?

Tommy D.:

That's important in the stretch, right? I mean, we laugh but I've

Tommy D.:

been I can't tell you that the number of championship runs I've

Tommy D.:

made and one with backup running backs. Right was with backups. I

Tommy D.:

mean, Mike Davis last year right backup running backs would come

Tommy D.:

in especially like later right? The Niners always have one

Tommy D.:

right? Just get big deniers always have a back who shows up?

Tommy D.:

All right, that's what Wilson was a couple years ago. Again,

Tommy D.:

you know, you can hold it and you know, those are what I'm

Tommy D.:

looking for like that long shot coming up on a team Seattle. So

Tommy D.:

perfect shit show of a backfield. What the hell of

Tommy D.:

like, I'd rather have Johnson than Adrian Peterson. I know

Tommy D.:

what a VPS is, it? Is Seattle's out why they're gonna play

Tommy D.:

Adrian Peterson. I don't think it gives me anything. But

Tommy D.:

listen, they could give jobs on the ball. And he could play

Tommy D.:

great sacks, you just drop them. But those are the guys you're

Tommy D.:

going to revert to. And you can, you know, outsmart your league,

Tommy D.:

right? You can you can get those guys before the new story comes

Tommy D.:

out, because you already know about it. Because you already

Tommy D.:

you know, you are attractive. I like that. And you know the

Tommy D.:

name. So I mean, there's certain this is a part of the season

Tommy D.:

where you're looking to, you know, clean up that research you

Tommy D.:

did in the offseason, does any of those guys gonna pan out or

Tommy D.:

any of those, you know, practice swag guys is gonna come up. And

Tommy D.:

now I can add them, you know, and you're looking to tighten

Tommy D.:

the ship. Right, and you're looking to rebuild, right?

Tommy D.:

You're also looking to take advantage of trade situations.

Tommy D.:

And from a point of view of a rebuilding franchise like Bobby,

Tommy D.:

right? If I'm, if I'm somebody like that, and I actually do it

Tommy D.:

as a winning franchise, I'm looking at teams who are making

Tommy D.:

a run and have needs, and maybe you can get a cheaper guy, maybe

Tommy D.:

you can get an IR guy, right. We thought we talked off air about

Tommy D.:

this, like a Travis, etc. On what maybe I can give the guy a

Tommy D.:

couple of starters for Travis ETR. At a decent price, right?

Tommy D.:

Or Michael Thomas, right? If I'm rebuilding, I'm seeing if I can

Tommy D.:

require somebody who's had a headache with somebody who's

Tommy D.:

injured a couple of times, maybe I can get them at, at least as

Tommy D.:

cheap as you can probably get them and get value that way,

Tommy D.:

because some guys don't have draft picks. But those are the

Tommy D.:

guys that I'm looking to go get, especially if you can find them

Tommy D.:

on a championship contender who's got holes. I mean, if you

Tommy D.:

happen to have run backs and fill a hole, and make a run,

Tommy D.:

that's that's great, but you know, it's worth a shot. And

Tommy D.:

that's the fun time of year. You can do stuff like that.

Bobby Stone:

If you're the rebuilding franchise, though. I,

Bobby Stone:

you know, just meet you. I've got to, I've got to assume that

Bobby Stone:

we are. We're holding, we're in a holding pattern on moving in

Bobby Stone:

draft picks at this point, if anything we're trying to acquire

Bobby Stone:

more. Is that fair to say? I

Tommy D.:

agree. I'm moving players. Oh, no. Yeah,

Tommy D.:

wholeheartedly, wholeheartedly. I mean, if you had to give up

Tommy D.:

maybe maybe a, you know, a lesser pick a major round pick

Tommy D.:

or something like that. You know, for a big upside play. And

Tommy D.:

this is something I've done and experienced, like, I can go back

Tommy D.:

to Jamaal Charles I bought him when he was injured and he was

Tommy D.:

he was injured on and off for like two and a half years.

Tommy D.:

Right. And then he straightened it out.

Bobby Stone:

Look through that list real quick because that's

Bobby Stone:

not the first one. That's not the first one or is that the

Bobby Stone:

last one that you've purchased or acquired while they've been

Bobby Stone:

injured? Yeah. That list real quick.

Tommy D.:

Why? It's often on huge McKean and Allen's another

Tommy D.:

one we talked about. You know, I bought him when he when he was

Tommy D.:

injured. Trying to think who else anyways, that's the example

Tommy D.:

you can get value in a guy and when Keenan Allen was in people

Tommy D.:

remember for like two and a half three years he was often on

Tommy D.:

injured and then he had the injury people thought he was

Tommy D.:

stuck again. I had to pay what he was worth then I didn't get

Tommy D.:

him to steal them but now I did. Because if I waited a year I

Tommy D.:

would have to pay twice as much. So those are the guys that you

Tommy D.:

might be able to get. You know if I gotta give up me a mid

Tommy D.:

round pick for a guy was a first round value and a potential you

Tommy D.:

know lock solid dynasty guy from me for six seven years. Yeah,

Tommy D.:

um, I'm looking at that to kick the tires on it's like getting

Tommy D.:

an extra graphic from last year.

Bobby Stone:

I think that's pretty fair. Honestly, I didn't

Bobby Stone:

even put you on the spot there but I totally thought you had

Bobby Stone:

more guys off the top yet.

Tommy D.:

I definitely do I just couldn't take a while definitely

Tommy D.:

is I mean, the opposite side works to like I traded Devonta

Tommy D.:

Freeman you know any only had one more year left in the clip

Tommy D.:

fell off. So it's like it's it's treat your own I look at it and

Tommy D.:

play it but again, it's worth the risk if especially guys who

Tommy D.:

are contenders. And I mean the bigger differences you know,

Tommy D.:

guys in my situation who've been contenders and consistency in

Tommy D.:

the playoffs. I'm probably not going to make the desperate buy.

Tommy D.:

But the guys who haven't won and are in that position do a shot

Tommy D.:

and I tell people absolutely worth the buy sell out to win a

Tommy D.:

title Absolutely. Do I do it? No, but I don't have to. But

Tommy D.:

your first one I don't blame you. Titles worth everything

Tommy D.:

right dynasties. Legendary. You go down to the books, you win a

Tommy D.:

title. So you should try to capitalize if I'm rebuilding,

Tommy D.:

I'm capitalizing I'm hitting that gap going, Hey, you might

Tommy D.:

look like you need a linebacker probably a tight end. I'm like,

Tommy D.:

I got a couple. What do you think in here, like maybe I can

Tommy D.:

get a prospect he's not happy with like, maybe you can get a

Tommy D.:

clip or because he's been a headache. So you can get him

Tommy D.:

cheaper, right? You can go by somebody like that. A little

Tommy D.:

lesser value. Those are the guys you kick the tires on. That's

Tommy D.:

why December is fun, because there's so many different sides

Tommy D.:

of the ball and dynasty that you can look at. You can look at

Tommy D.:

buying pieces for now, later, years down the line.

Bobby Stone:

December is fun. And I can I can tell you offhand

Bobby Stone:

that I've personally attempted to sell out a couple of times

Bobby Stone:

over the years. And it it put me in a position where I was in the

Bobby Stone:

middle of the hunt. Got myself to a couple of championships.

Bobby Stone:

And you know, nobody remembers second place winner except the

Bobby Stone:

second place winner and I was second place winner. So

Tommy D.:

I remember I'll use don't worry about it. Right.

Bobby Stone:

Well, well, again, you're the anomaly. But

Tommy D.:

you and you alluded to and I thought you were actually

Tommy D.:

gonna say it but the part that hurts about when you sell out,

Tommy D.:

is it Cliff drop afterwards. And I am in it. Yep. And this goes

Tommy D.:

to people who want it and and lost it right and I've seen both

Tommy D.:

sides of it. And you're right I am the anomaly right and this is

Tommy D.:

why I teach people I'm a big save save for component and

Tommy D.:

dynasty right big save for because I've made the playoffs.

Tommy D.:

I mean one year you know, last week I was posting stuff in the

Tommy D.:

league and it was like 15 straight years have made the

Tommy D.:

playoffs right there's a reason why right there's a reason where

Tommy D.:

the guy who you know want to Title Three years ago has missed

Tommy D.:

the playoffs two or three years right Oh, the guy was in the

Tommy D.:

finals last year. You know now he's maybe out of the playoff

Tommy D.:

picture right that drop off is massive. So yeah, you know this

Tommy D.:

time of year is the time that helps your dynasty team like

Tommy D.:

this. This is another important part like we talked about like

Tommy D.:

the middle of season Yeah, it is important but it's not as like

Tommy D.:

this is a time of a season where you should be looking at

Tommy D.:

everything like on and off you know, value trying to buy guys

Tommy D.:

does runs just like in a draft we see a run on draft pick. This

Tommy D.:

is a run of people trying to get their way in these last two

Tommy D.:

weeks. Let's go dynasty. You know, bring it on. Let's make

Tommy D.:

some trades. Let's make some moves.
