Speaker:derma to logical treatments that can help us

Speaker:fabulous at any age. So whether you're curious
Speaker:about Botox, fillers, or you just want
Speaker:to up your skincare game with some at home treatments, I've got
Speaker:you covered. So grab your favorite
Speaker:cup of tea. I got my water. Get
Speaker:comfy, and let's get into it. Now
Speaker:I'm not gonna lie. Hitting that half century mark
Speaker:can bring about some changes, and
Speaker:our skin is really no exception. But that
Speaker:doesn't mean that we can't look and feel our absolute
Speaker:best at some point. We've all noticed
Speaker:new lines, age spots, or
Speaker:sagging skin that's staring back at us.
Speaker:I know firsthand that our skin changes
Speaker:as we age. Just the other day, I was looking through some old
Speaker:photos, and I noticed how different my skin looks
Speaker:now compared to my thirties, my forties, and, hey,
Speaker:even my fifties. But guess what? That's completely
Speaker:normal. Our skin tells a story of
Speaker:our lines, every laugh, every worry, every
Speaker:sun soaked adventure. And while we embrace
Speaker:these changes, it's also okay to seek out
Speaker:ways to to maintain and enhance our skin's
Speaker:health and appearance. The good news is there
Speaker:are some amazing treatments and therapies that are
Speaker:available that can help us look and feel our best at
Speaker:every age. So let's kick off things
Speaker:by by talking about some common skincare concerns
Speaker:that many of us face as we get older. As women over
Speaker:50, we tend to experience some
Speaker:skin care changes that can be both frustrating and
Speaker:inevitable. Wrinkles, age spots,
Speaker:and sagging skin are just a few of the changes that we might
Speaker:notice. These changes are influenced
Speaker:by a mix of factors, largely due to decreased
Speaker:collagen and elastin production, cumulative
Speaker:sun damage, hormonal shifts, and genetics.
Speaker:Our skin doesn't bounce back and renew itself as
Speaker:quickly as it once did. For instance, I remember
Speaker:my first noticeable wrinkle in my forehead
Speaker:and those fine lines around my eyes. I was like, woah.
Speaker:Where did that come from? It felt like it just
Speaker:appeared overnight. But, hey, it happens to the best of us.
Speaker:Right? These things are a testament of the joy
Speaker:and the laughter over the years, but let's be real. While we
Speaker:appreciate the stories our skin tells, we might also
Speaker:want to smooth things out of it. The good news
Speaker:is that we have more options than ever
Speaker:before to address these concerns. From fillers and
Speaker:lasers to chemical peels and microneedling, modern
Speaker:derm dermatology has given us a whole toolkit
Speaker:of treatments to help restore a more youthful
Speaker:and radiant complexion. Factors like
Speaker:diet and hydration and even
Speaker:sleep play a big role in how our
Speaker:skin looks and feels. I've noticed
Speaker:that when I drink plenty of water and I get a good night's sleep,
Speaker:then my skin has maybe, I don't know, a healthier
Speaker:glow. And who doesn't want that? Right?
Speaker:So let's dive into some of the most popular
Speaker:dermatological treatments for mature
Speaker:skin that can help address some of our concerns.
Speaker:There are so many options out there. Botox, fillers,
Speaker:laser treatments, chemical pills, and microneedling to name a
Speaker:few. First up on our list today is
Speaker:Botox. It's great for reducing the
Speaker:appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It works by
Speaker:temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause
Speaker:wrinkles, creating a smoother appearance. I actually
Speaker:tried it in my forehead for what, I guess, you
Speaker:might call my frown line. It does work.
Speaker:Initially, I was a bit concerned about trying it because I'm sure
Speaker:we've all seen those people who have
Speaker:absolutely no movement in their skin. Hey. If that works
Speaker:for them, then that's great, but that's definitely not what I wanted.
Speaker:But after talking to my dermatologist, who, by the way,
Speaker:I think is the greatest ever, I learned that he
Speaker:supports a natural look for his patients. Otherwise,
Speaker:I wouldn't have tried it. The results usually last around
Speaker:3 to 4 months. Another popular option
Speaker:is dermal fillers. Now these injectable
Speaker:gels are used to plump up areas that have lost volume
Speaker:like in the cheeks, the lips, or under the
Speaker:eye hollows. I talked to my dermatologist
Speaker:about this because I wanted to know why my
Speaker:skin looked droopy, particularly under the eyes.
Speaker:He said, as we get older, we lose collagen in our skin, which
Speaker:causes it to thin and to lose elasticity.
Speaker:Mine seemed to have gotten worse after I lost weight. So
Speaker:losing fat from your face can cause it to look hollow.
Speaker:Now I try to camouflage it with concealer and highlighter
Speaker:underneath my eyes and to help lighten and
Speaker:brighten them. And I'm also using this product from INBEAUTY
Speaker:that I really like for lightening and brightening it.
Speaker:I'll put it I can't, for whatever reason, think of the name of it right
Speaker:now, but I'll put it in the show notes. And now while
Speaker:I haven't tried fillers yet, I've heard that the effects
Speaker:can last for about 6 to 12 months. And many
Speaker:women, find that it gives them a subtle
Speaker:natural looking lift. For addressing
Speaker:sun damage and even skin tone, laser
Speaker:treatments like IOP, intense pulse lighting, can be
Speaker:incredibly effective. These therapies use
Speaker:controlled light energy to break up discolorations
Speaker:and to stimulate collagen production for
Speaker:tighter, brighter skin. They target age
Speaker:spots and uneven skin tone. I
Speaker:hear that the results can be pretty impressive, but, of
Speaker:course, it's important to find a reputable dermatologist
Speaker:or provider. Then there are, chemical pills,
Speaker:which are an option, especially for tackling skin
Speaker:issues like fine lines, age spots, and
Speaker:rough textures. These help with texture
Speaker:and tone by removing the top layer of the skin.
Speaker:I've read that they can be a bit intense. The
Speaker:treatments use a combination of alpha hydroxy
Speaker:acids to remove outer layer of damaged skin
Speaker:cells, and then they can range from, like, a a a
Speaker:light lunchtime pill to a more intensive
Speaker:procedure with varying degrees of downtime. Again,
Speaker:seek out professional care before you try this.
Speaker:And then finally, there's microneedling, and
Speaker:it's a minimally invasive treatment that uses
Speaker:tiny needles to create micro inner in
Speaker:injuries to the skin. This triggers the
Speaker:body's natural healing response, boosting collagen and
Speaker:elastin production for a firmer, more youthful
Speaker:appearance. Now many women find it effective
Speaker:for reducing the appearance of acne scars and
Speaker:large pores as well. I know it sounds a bit scary,
Speaker:but some say it's quite effective for improving skin
Speaker:texture and firmness. I recently talked to a friend
Speaker:of mine, Linda, who just had decided to try micro
Speaker:microneedling. Now she said she was a bit nervous at
Speaker:first, but after a few sessions, she noticed a significant
Speaker:improvement in her skin's texture and firmness. And she was
Speaker:thrilled with the results. Now I know we're talking about
Speaker:skin, but I actually, about a month or so
Speaker:ago, received microneedling
Speaker:on my scalp as part as my as part of my treatment for
Speaker:thinning hair. I think it has helped, but we'll know more
Speaker:next week after I have my follow-up appointment with my dermatologist.
Speaker:But each treatment has its benefits and its potential
Speaker:risk. For example, Botox and fillers
Speaker:could potentially cause bruising or swelling, while
Speaker:laser treatments might require some downtime.
Speaker:Cost also vary widely, so it's definitely
Speaker:worth doing some research and finding a provider that
Speaker:you trust. Now I know what you're thinking.
Speaker:All these treatments sound expensive, and you're right. Some of
Speaker:them can be, and not everybody is
Speaker:ready to dive into cosmetic procedures. So
Speaker:if you're not quite there yet, then there are plenty
Speaker:of noninvasive and at home options that can make
Speaker:a difference in the health and appearance of mature
Speaker:skin. When it comes to over
Speaker:the counter skin care, look for ingredients like
Speaker:retinol, vitamin c, hyaluronic acid, and
Speaker:peptides. They're known to be effective for mature
Speaker:skin. They can help stimulate cell turnover,
Speaker:even out discoloration, and plump up fine
Speaker:lines and wrinkles. I'm a big fan of serums
Speaker:and moisturizers that contain these compounds.
Speaker:You can also try at home devices like
Speaker:microcurrent tools, LED light therapies, and
Speaker:derma rolling. These techniques work to improve the
Speaker:circulation and stimulate collagen,
Speaker:and gently exfoliate the skin for a smoother, more
Speaker:radiant glow. They're a great supplement, mind
Speaker:you, to your regular skin care routine. I was
Speaker:recently contacted by a company that asked me to try
Speaker:out their product, which is a microcurrent and LED
Speaker:therapy device. I haven't done so yet. I'm
Speaker:thinking about it, but I'm pretty reserved when it comes to what
Speaker:I try on my skin. And
Speaker:then let's not forget the power of a good old
Speaker:fashioned do it yourself. Things
Speaker:like brightening face mask, hydrating overnight
Speaker:treatments, and gentle facial massage can
Speaker:all be incredibly beneficial for mature skin. The key
Speaker:is, though, to be consistent and patient. It
Speaker:may take some trial and error to find out what works best for
Speaker:you. Consistency is key pretty
Speaker:much in any skincare routine. It might take a few weeks
Speaker:or even months to see results, but stick to it. I think your skin
Speaker:will thank you for it. Remember, the
Speaker:the most important thing is to find what
Speaker:works for you. Everyone's skin is different.
Speaker:So what works for your friend or your sister? It might
Speaker:not necessarily work for you, but don't be afraid to
Speaker:experiment. Try different products and see
Speaker:what gives you the best results. So to
Speaker:wrap things up, we've covered a lot today in a
Speaker:very short amount of time. From common skincare
Speaker:concerns to popular treatments, to
Speaker:non invasive options. There are plenty of ways
Speaker:to care for our skin as we age.
Speaker:But the most important thing is to work closely
Speaker:with a qualified dermatologist or a skincare
Speaker:professional to create a customized plan
Speaker:that addresses your unique skin concerns and desired
Speaker:outcomes. If you're considering any treatment,
Speaker:do your research. And don't be afraid to ask lots of
Speaker:questions and to set realistic expectations
Speaker:along the way. Remember, it's all
Speaker:about feeling confident and con comfortable in
Speaker:your own skin. By the way, if you have any
