How many legs do you have? If you have two, I imagine you thank God for that from time to time - because not everyone does. And what if I suggested you tied up one leg and got around on just that. And then swapped them over for a few weeks. Makes sense right? Life is easier right? Of course not! Why then do we sometimes place God first and other times place my wife/children/work/anything else we enjoy before God? As Elijah tells us today: “‘How long’ he said ‘do you mean to hobble first on one leg then on the other? If the Lord is God, follow him; if Baal, follow him.’” Let’s today and every day ask God to help us renounce anything else before him, and place him in the first and central place of our life around which everything else revolves. And then we will always be using our two legs. Amen.
