Shownotes

David Tomen’s journey with nootropic supplements began when he was diagnosed with Adult ADD. After years of buying self-help books, being passed over for promotions, and even suffering depression over his inability to focus, Ritalin helped turn his life and career around.

But a few short years later, David was in the ER with a laundry list of symptoms. Not only was David struggling to focus again but now he was suffering from complete memory loss, chronic fatigue, and depression — and his business and marriage were in deep trouble. Fighting for his life, David again turned to nootropic supplements.

With a methodically researched regimen of supplements and lifestyle changes, he was able to not only recover but get his brain working better than ever before.

After experiencing firsthand what nootropic supplements were capable of, David founded NootropicsExpert.com and wrote two books — "Secrets of the Optimized Brain" and "Head First” — all with the intent of helping others achieve the same transformational success that he had. David also has a knack for explaining this cutting-edge neuroscience in a digestible and engaging way that cuts through the marketing and scientific jargon that so often surrounds the supplement industry, and that’s why I brought him onto the show today.

Nootropics & Nootropic Stacks

In David’s book Head First - The Complete Guide to Healing & Optimizing Your Brain with Nootropic Supplements, he offers detailed information on various nootropics, dosage information, side effects, drug interactions, how your brain works, and detailed “recipes” for nootropic stacks.

While nootropics can help you optimize your brain health and overcome a long list of cognitive problems — ADHD, Anxiety, Concentration/attention, Creativity, Depression, Focus, Longevity, Mental clarity, Sociability, Mental/chronic fatigue, Memory, Motivation, Stress — there is no magic panacea.

You will likely need to address multiple parts of your brain through multiple nootropics — called a Nootropic Stack — in addition to implementing lifestyle changes that contribute to your overall cognitive and physical health.

Here are a few of the most popular Nootropic Stacks, which David shared on a recent blog post:

  • Energy – using Rhodiola Rosea and Phosphatidylserine (PS) (as Sharp PS® Green) which reduces fatigue and boosts reaction time and mental clarity. And the Citicoline (as Cognizin®) works with Rhodiola Rosea in this stack for more brain ATP synthesis and limiting stress-induced cortisol

  • Mood – using L-Theanine (as Suntheanine®) and B-Vitamins which enhances catecholamine synthesis and alpha brain waves for an anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effect for better mood and emotional control

Note: if you want to start tackling one of these problems with a nootropic stack, don’t just start taking them all at once. Start with just one nootropic, dial in the dosage and make sure it agrees with your body, and then add one more — and continue this methodical process until you are seeing the benefits that you want.
