Happy New Year.
2
:I've realized this episode is going
to go out on New Year's Day, so
3
:what better than you version 2.0.
4
:This is the work.
5
:I am gonna be really going big on
this year because I have spent a long
6
:time working on business stuff, and
now I want to bring it back to my
7
:own personal development because your
business success will never exceed
8
:your level of personal development.
9
:If 2026 is going to be different, it
won't be because you wanted it more.
10
:I know you want it a lot already.
11
:It will be because you behaved
differently when no one was watching.
12
:Different mornings.
13
:This is something I really want to embody.
14
:I used to do The Miracle Morning, if
you have read that book, it was amazing
15
:and I had a great routine for a while.
16
:Savers was the acronym.
17
:So silence, in other words, meditation.
18
:Affirmations.
19
:Visualization, exercise, reading.
20
:And scribing.
21
:So it was quite a lot.
22
:Hence why probably I'm not
doing it anymore because it
23
:used to take quite a long time.
24
:But I really do want to bring
much more of that into my life.
25
:I'd recommend monitoring your
time for a week and jotting
26
:down what you're doing with it.
27
:Is that social media post
taking you two hours?
28
:If so, is it a valid use of
your time and is that version
29
:of you gonna grow your business?
30
:Maybe it's different standards for
yourself in terms of behaviors that are
31
:slowing you down, I will never get you
to the next version that you want to be.
32
:Today.
33
:Let's walk through what you 2.0
34
:actually looks like in practice.
35
:Not just a vague idea, but as something
you can really start embodying this week
36
:. I am Jo Lott, and this is
Women in the Coaching Arena.
37
:I help qualify coaches grow
businesses with honesty, not hype.
38
:If you are serious about being in
a year that genuinely shifts you,
39
:not just feels hopeful in January,
then this is the episode for you.
40
:Most New Year energy fades because
people aim it just at outcomes.
41
:Rather than thinking about the
identity it's gonna require
42
:to reach those outcomes.
43
:Maybe we set goals, but
we keep the same routines.
44
:We want change, but we want the same
level of comfort that we've always had.
45
:Maybe we expect growth, but don't
expect it to feel uncomfortable.
46
:And the very thing about growth, if we
are thinking about going to the gym or
47
:something, is that it only comes at that
point where you feel like, no, please
48
:don't make me lift another weight.
49
:And it's those moments of pushing through
them that actually grow our bodies.
50
:So it's the same with our
identity and our minds.
51
:You don't move into a
new chapter by accident.
52
:You move into it by noticing
where your current habits are
53
:loyal to an old version of you.
54
:So before we talk about doing anything
new, let's do something really simple.
55
:Take a piece of paper now and write
down 'the version of me that ran
56
:2025' and finish these sentences.
57
:Honestly
58
:makes decisions by prioritizing.
59
:Dot, dot, dot.
60
:Avoids discomfort by.do
61
:dot
62
:spends time, mainly on dot, do dot,
63
:and feels most confident when dot.
64
:So the version of me that ran 2025 makes
decisions by prioritizing comfort, maybe.
65
:The version of me that ran 2025
avoids discomfort by people pleasing
66
:the version of me that ran 2025
spends time mainly on my phone.
67
:The version of me that ran 2025
feels most confident when I'm
68
:doing a great job with my clients.
69
:So you complete those for you now
in your head or on paper, depending
70
:on where you're listening to this.
71
:No judgment at all.
72
:Just information that we can work
with because that is you 1.0.
73
:And as you 2.0
74
:starts to grow by noticing what
version of you is quietly limiting you.
75
:Something I'm working on for the
first session of The Practice.
76
:My new program starting in January
is understanding how we use our time.
77
:I'm intending to do an ideal week
exercise so you really block out
78
:what is a realistic amount of time
you spend on your business and
79
:other elements of your life as well.
80
:If, for example, we need to write one
social post or one email a week, that
81
:should be more than possible, but
people often don't think it is, and
82
:that's usually back to part one of
this episode, which might be taking
83
:time to go out for coffees with their
friends and lovely things that I used
84
:to do when I started my business.
85
:And now I look back and think like, I
didn't realize that I actually had a
86
:job to do because the time was my own.
87
:So if someone said, fancy
meeting up this Friday morning.
88
:I would've said yes without
even thinking, well, actually
89
:I've got business tasks to do.
90
:I'm not saying don't enjoy your life,
and now I can prioritize those things.
91
:But make sure you get your non-negotiables
in your business done just like
92
:you would if you were an employed
role before you say yes to coffee.
93
:So here is our second practical exercise.
94
:Track your real time for one average week.
95
:Not your ideal week, not what a
good week might look like, but
96
:just a normal average week for you.
97
:Really note down how much
time goes into delivery.
98
:How much time goes into thinking,
planning, making decisions?
99
:How much scrolling, or reacting
are you doing, and how much
100
:time are you spending on rest?
101
:You will definitely be shocked
if you do this exercise.
102
:Because everything takes so
much longer than we think.
103
:I've recently downloaded an app called
Opal, it restricts my phone use because
104
:I think it was above four hours a day,
which I don't actually think is that bad
105
:in terms of the average population, I
think we're at generally four or four plus
106
:hours a day, but isn't that just insane
of what we could be doing in those four
107
:hours every single day when we say we are
too busy to do really important things
108
:that will completely transform our lives?
109
:So the version of you that you maybe want
to be in:
110
:like someone who's still in maintenance
mode or overthinking for hours.
111
:The You 2.0
112
:doesn't magically get more
hours in their calendar.
113
:They choose to allocate those hours
differently, maybe choosing to say goodbye
114
:to really hard habits like perfectionism,
and taking a really long time over things
115
:that really don't need a really long time.
116
:So you 2.0
117
:maybe relates to time differently.
118
:Maybe you protect it
more, protect your energy.
119
:Maybe you plan and ensure that
everything you're doing is really
120
:aligned with those goals and that
version of you that you want to be.
121
:Maybe you stop leaking your time through
indecision and over responsibility
122
:for things that aren't yours to carry.
123
:Let's talk about mornings now, I mentioned
earlier about the miracle mourning because
124
:this is where your identity shows up fast.
125
:This is not talking about getting in cold
tubs every day, although I am in complete
126
:admiration for people that can do that.
127
:It's just about being a tiny
bit more mindful about what we
128
:do first thing in the morning.
129
:I love having my coffee in bed, but
what that means is usually that the
130
:nearest thing to me is my phone.
131
:So I end up maybe checking emails
first thing in the morning , and
132
:often that brings you into reacting
to other people's needs versus your
133
:own goals and your own thinking.
134
:I loved the Miracle Morning as
I really prioritized visualizing
135
:what I wanted in life.
136
:Creating affirmations to
really help me get there.
137
:And one thing I'll be doing this Christmas
is writing up a new identity statement
138
:that I read each and every morning.
139
:If you saw my annual review last week,
then you know that I used to do this,
140
:and I have photos of the goals I've
written up, which I used to read every
141
:single morning and every single night.
142
:And at the time, I felt frustrated
that they were never gonna happen, and
143
:it was always slower than I expected.
144
:But now I look back and think, my
goodness, all of that work that I did,
145
:all of those seeds that I planted in
my mind to show me what was possible
146
:for me have actually flourished.
147
:So now is the time for me to upgrade
that version who has already been
148
:upgraded into that next level version.
149
:Because whatever got us here will not
get us there unless we make some changes.
150
:So let's redesign your
first 30 minutes of the day.
151
:Write down now what you currently do
in the first 30 minutes of a work day.
152
:Be specific.
153
:If you really read how bad it
may be sounds, then it might
154
:help you do something about it.
155
:And now ask yourself, what would the first
30 minutes look like if I was version 2.0
156
:and I trusted and valued myself more.
157
:Maybe you 2.0
158
:starts with deciding priorities before
consuming other people's requirements.
159
:Maybe it's choosing intention
over urgency and thinking you
160
:need to do something right away.
161
:That's not just productivity,
it's actually leadership.
162
:And here is the really
uncomfortable part that matters.
163
:Growth is not just about adding
new skills and learning new things.
164
:It's about loosening your grip
on traits that once helped
165
:you and now hold you back.
166
:So we all have these habits
that maybe helped us create
167
:the success that we have now.
168
:Maybe it's over explaining,
rescuing others.
169
:People pleasing and making
sure that everybody thinks
170
:you are an amazing person.
171
:Therefore, your own needs go
to the bottom of the list.
172
:Maybe waiting until you feel ready,
protected you in employment perhaps
173
:where you didn't make any mistakes.
174
:Therefore, you managed
to go under the radar.
175
:These aren't flaws.
176
:They're just outdated strategies,
which got you to the place you are
177
:at right now, but usually might not
get you to the next version of you
178
:that you know is ready to be born.
179
:So let's name what you are
letting go of right now.
180
:So write this sentence and
complete it now "in:
181
:longer lead from dot, dot dot".
182
:That might be in 2026.
183
:I no longer lead from people pleasing.
184
:It might be in 2026 I no
longer lead from perfectionism.
185
:Maybe it's in 2026 I no longer
lead from procrastination.
186
:But now the important part, write down
what that trait protected you from
187
:and what that trait now costs you.
188
:So people pleasing, protects
you from people not liking you.
189
:And what does it cost you?
190
:It costs you alignment sometimes
with maybe what you really think,
191
:maybe what you really want to
share, what's really on your heart.
192
:It also costs you time because
all of the time you are spending
193
:trying to please others, you are
usually not pleasing yourself.
194
:So really think about what it is for you.
195
:What did that trait protect you
from, and what does it cost you now?
196
:Expect this to feel
hard and uncomfortable.
197
:You're not meant to feel comfortable here.
198
:So if you feel uncomfortable doing these
exercises, just know that this means
199
:that you are stepping in unfamiliar
territory right now, and you are in
200
:this moment developing into you 2.0.
201
:One final thing I want you to expect
is if you start operating as you 2.0,
202
:there will be a wobble.
203
:There will be moments where you
miss the old certainty, you question
204
:your decisions, you feel exposed and
like this is totally uncomfortable.
205
:And that doesn't mean you're failing.
206
:It just means your nervous
system is recalibrating.
207
:Your body will always try to pull
you back to the comfort zone.
208
:So the work we do each and every
day, which is why being a business
209
:owner is the best personal
development growth you can ever do.
210
:Is trying to move away into that
growth zone from the comfort zone.
211
:And this is why business building is
so brilliant because your business
212
:is your full responsibility.
213
:So if something isn't working, it's
to do with decisions you've made.
214
:Old habits, something to do with what you
are deciding upon, and that may be your
215
:niche, your offer, all of those things.
216
:Small decisions maybe not to prioritize
business development, learning how
217
:to use social media or choosing
to go to that networking meeting.
218
:Every single thing in your
business is a mirror of you
219
:and who you are in this moment.
220
:So if that is uncomfortable, then it's
time to keep making these small changes.
221
:You want to go back to employment where
someone tells you you're doing a good job,
222
:where it's not all your responsibility.
223
:But in fact, how cool would it be if you
really stepped into this and thought, I
224
:will make this work and I will do what
it takes to start seeing the results in
225
:my business that reflect the personal
development and all of the discomfort
226
:that you are feeling in the moment.
227
:So instead of going back to old patterns
when it will feel uncomfortable, name it.
228
:So this feels uncomfortable
because I'm leading differently.
229
:This feels uncomfortable because I'm
choosing to be a new version of me.
230
:This feels uncomfortable because
I no longer will bow down to
231
:bad habits and perfectionism and
procrastination and things that
232
:feel like they're keeping me safe.
233
:So write down that sentence and read it.
234
:When you get to that
tipping point where 2.0
235
:starts to wear off and you start to think,
oh my goodness, let me get back to my old
236
:version of me 'cause it felt comfortable.
237
:So you 2.0
238
:is not built in a day.
239
:It's built through
repeated, brave choices.
240
:How you start your day, how
you use your time, what you
241
:stop tolerating in yourself.
242
:If you want 2026 to be different,
easeful, spacious, successful, whatever
243
:the word is for you that you'd like
to choose, then let's begin there.
244
:I will be doing this work because
my word of the year is going to be
245
:spacious, so I'm gonna have to make
different choices to bring that into
246
:my life and really design what does
spacious mean to me in tangible terms.
247
:It means working from my gym once a week.
248
:Maybe not working from my gym once a
week would be an even more spacious goal.
249
:It means leaving my laptop behind when I
go to my mother-in-law's for Christmas.
250
:It means communicating my ideas cleanly
and quickly so I don't let procrastination
251
:slip into my thoughts because I
have communicated what's on my mind.
252
:I hope today's episode was helpful in
elping you to have an amazing:
253
:This is the work that you are here to do.
254
:To essentially work on yourself.
255
:And that is why I love business building
because you will start, you feel all the
256
:resistance, and if you stop at any point
or your bad habits slip in, then your
257
:business will reflect that back at you.
258
:I messaged my previous coach, who I
started working with in:
259
:day, saying the change that's happened
within me since I started working with
260
:him in 2019 is indescribable really.
261
:I said that I feel like i'd been
walking around most of my life with
262
:a curtain over my head having no
idea that I had so much power and
263
:that so much was within my control.
264
:So take this work.
265
:Re listen to the episode with a notepad.
266
:Write up that new version of you.
267
:Read it every morning.
268
:I promise you this will
be worth your time.
269
:And at the end of 2026, you'll
be so grateful of you 1.0
270
:doing this work now.
271
:Remind yourself what is
possible with small steps.
272
:So final a reminder.
273
:Get in the show notes.
274
:Join The Practice.
275
:My 12 month program.
276
:You will build an amazing
business without information
277
:overload, noise or distraction.
278
:Just tuning into what you need each month.
279
:And like I say at the end of
every episode, trust yourself.
280
:Believe in yourself, and be the wise
gardener who keeps on watering the seeds.
281
:Microphone (Samson Q2U Microphone):
Thank you so much for listening to this
282
:episode of Women in the Coaching Arena.
283
:I have a mess of free resources on
my website joannalottcoaching.com.
284
:That's Joanna with an A
and Lott with two T's.
285
:joannalottcoaching.com.
286
:And I'll also put links in the show notes.
287
:Let me know if you found
this episode useful.
288
:Share it with a friend and
leave me a review, and I will
289
:personally thank you for that.
290
:Remember to trust yourself, believe
in yourself and be the wise Gardner
291
:who keeps on watering the seed.
292
:Get into the arena dare, greatly and try.
