In this happiness hack I am encouraging you to engage in random acts of kindness at work.

Why? Wider networks of our communities are crucial for our wellbeing. This is because our happiness does not only depend on the quality of close relationships we have but also on the happiness of those around us [2]. Happiness is contagious and having diverse, broad, and happy environment around us means that we feel safe and secure [3].

And kindness is a superpower that we all can tap into to influence the happiness of others, creating a ripple effect across our social network and ultimately contributing to building a happier society.

The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation defines kindness is “any positive action, no matter how small, that leaves someone in a better situation than before”

So how can I be kinder at work? I have 3 quick ideas for you:

Write a thank you email to one of your colleagues who support you at work but make it a thoughtful thank you, specifically write how their help impacted you in a positive way.

Share a skill with others, that is, if you are getting asked to help out with the same thing over and over again in the workplace, why don’t you host a webinar or create a how-to guide so that people can learn from you and crack on on their own?

Give someone strength based feedback. That is, share with your colleague a positive comment on their specific skill. For example; during this meeting I was impressed by…., I really appreciate when you…. I think you have the greatest impact when….

Hope you like those ideas. I heard it from yoga teacher; Remember, we are not only human beings but also humankind so let’s be kind!

Thank you for listening to the Happiness Reset Campaign, I hope this happiness hack is useful and impactful. Learn more about resilience. If you are up for learning, listen to episode 11: Is kindness the new cool?
