SCRIPTURE: James 4:1-17
SHOW NOTES: James continues to share practical instruction with brothers and sisters in the early Church. How should they live in a way pleasing to God? As Jews, they listened to the teaching of the Law, celebrated the Annual Feasts, and brought their sacrifices to the Temple. James presents this basic choice for all believers. Will we live according to our fleshly desires, or will we humble ourselves and submit to God?
James cares for these people and he desires to see them live in a way that will please the Lord and result in God’s generous gift of grace. This chapter calls us to consider our position before the Lord with these imperative commands – Submit and draw near to God. Turn away from the devil. Present clean hands and a pure heart. Mourn and weep with true sorrow and regret for my sin. Humbly submit to the Lord.
