The Great Foundation of Failure – Wisdom Unplugged

Unplugged1-1024x609

Wisdom – the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1215 of our trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today’s quote is from Og Mandino, and it is, “I will not allow yesterday’s success to lull me into today’s complacency, for this is the great foundation of failure.”

The Great Foundation Of Failure

One of the easiest paths to failure is to rest on the laurels of yesterday’s successes so that you become complacent in your current season of life. You may have heard that success fosters more success, but even more easily success will degrade to failure because we take our attention off of those minute practices and habits that allowed us to reach success in the first place.

I have seen it and read about it time and time again when a person who has reached a certain level of success then jeopardizes it unconsciously either for fear of more success or because they have taken their eyes off the steps that will allow them to gain a higher level of success.  The trail that brought us to our station in life today may not be the same trail that will allow us to continue on up the mountain of success.

Think about some of these examples…How many sports players, actors, politicians, or business executives who are paid millions of dollars over their career end up poor and destitute because they did not follow the same dedicated practices and daily habits that brought them success to begin with?

This could happen to any of us. Therefore, we must not allow yesterday’s successes to lull us into complacency today. Yes, there should be a short time for rest and celebration, to enjoy the fruit of your hard-won labors, but then get back on the trail, and continue that climb to the summit. In this life, we never reach the summit, until God calls us home to be with Him. So persevere, work hard, rest when you need to, and then continue on.

Philippians [3:13]-14

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,  I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
