Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Luke. Luke 22:43-44. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 26 of 30 Days in the Gospels. Maybe you should stop what you’re doing, and really pay attention for just a moment. [PAUSE] We’re thinking about Jesus’ in Gethsemane. He is praying a stones-throw from his closest disciples. The darkness presses low around him. Terror is building, as his heart gazes wide-eyed at the immensity of evil he has chosen to embrace. His physical heart is pounding, faltering. Will he survive? No. He is dying. In the garden. So Luke says an Angel came to strengthen him. Jesus would never have survived the burden of our guilt, had an angel not come to give him a shot of divine strength. Our sins were tearing him apart—psychologically and physically. The trauma is so intense that his body is collapsing beneath its weight, as bloody fluid begins to leak from his failing system. The cost of our guilt, was unimaginably immense.
