Ageism is often called the last acceptable form of discrimination. The definition of ageism is ‘stereotyping prejudice and discrimination against people based on their age.’ In this episode of Caregiver Camp Podcast, we discuss what ageism is and how it contributes to psycho-social challenges in the workplace as well as economic losses for organizations and individuals. Kris Geerken and Dr Amy Dore are joining us in this discussion with examples of ageism from the recent Coronavirus pandemic.

About Amy:

Dr. Amy Dore is a Professor teaching in the undergraduate Health Care Management and graduate Master of Health Administration programs at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver). She is a graduate of MSU Denver, has a Master of Health Systems (MHS) from the University of Denver as well as a Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) from Central Michigan University.  

For more than 19 years, Dr Dore has taught courses in human resources, long-term care, organizational behavior, practice management, and research methods.  

She also enjoys partnering with Kris on anti-ageism efforts.

About Kris:

Kris holds a B.S. in Human Development with concentrations in aging, grief and loss from the State University of New York. She also holds a Master of Health Administration degree from MSU Denver. 

She is focused on improving and increasing community awareness about healthcare programs to enhance well-being for all people. Her work centers on public health issues involving equity, well-being and improving legislation.  

Working with Changing the Narrative, she was an Executive Producer for a PBS12 series titled On the same pAGE - bringing multi-generations of Colorado community representatives together to discuss ageism.  She currently manages an intergenerational ageism campaign by facilitating and organizing virtual discussion groups.  Recently, she has developed an Ageism in Healthcare campaign consisting of a fact sheet, a presentation and a short film.
