The people of Israel have sinned against the LORD. What will God do? Will He abandon His promises to the Patriarchs? You already know the answer--He won't. He was faithful to His Word then, and He is faithful to His Word today. And, just as the Israelites have a choice to walk in obedience to a God that longs to dwell with them, we have the opportunity to draw near to the God of all grace. And you are... because you're here.

Scripture Read or Referenced:
John 14:6
Various verses throughout Exodus 39 and 40
The Life Application Study Bible from Zondervan was quoted.
This is the Dwelling Place
from Entrusted Ministries.
2
:I'm Stephanie Hickox, and today
we're concluding the Book of Exodus.
3
:That means you've already walked
through 132 chapters of scripture.
4
:If you're wondering why we're going
at this fast pace, it's because.
5
:It could not be more clear that God
is the main character of scripture.
6
:When I read these pages of Exodus
37 through 40 and I think about how
7
:Bealle Was filled with the spirit
of God to do everything that he did,
8
:and then he did it exactly according
to how the Lord commanded him.
9
:we know from Galatians that the
fruit of the spirit is faithfulness.
10
:And self-control, and I can see be allele
being led in consistency by the spirit of
11
:God and it just challenges me that when
I think of being filled with the spirit,
12
:that I don't necessarily connect it to a
loose goosey, go with the flow attitude.
13
:The Zondervan Life Application Study
Bible provides a really simple overview
14
:of the Tabernacle pieces, and I like how
they explain what each one symbolized.
15
:Jesus declared, I'm the
way, the truth and the life.
16
:No one comes to the
Father, except through me.
17
:And in the same way, there was only
one entrance into the tabernacle.
18
:The first piece you'd approach.
19
:Would be the large wash basin, and
this was used by the priest to cleanse
20
:themselves before their duties.
21
:It symbolized the need
for spiritual cleansing.
22
:Then there was a large
altar for burnt offerings.
23
:And this symbolized how sacrifice
restored their relationship to God.
24
:A special oil was used to
anoint the priests and all
25
:of the pieces of furniture.
26
:This fragrance represented
being set apart for God,
27
:and then there was the altar of incense.
28
:It was in the holy place in front
of the curtain, and it was used for
29
:using this special recipe of incense,
and it symbolizes our prayers.
30
:Then you'd see the lamp stands.
31
:There was a golden
lampstand in the holy place.
32
:It had seven oil burning lamps.
33
:It lit the holy place for
the priest to serve in.
34
:Then on the table
35
:was the bread of the presence.
36
:And there were 12 loaves of baked
bread, one for every tribe, and it
37
:symbolized the spiritual nourishment
that God was providing for the people.
38
:inside the holy of Holies
was the arc of the covenant.
39
:It represented God's covenant with his
people and atop it was the mercy seat.
40
:This lid that held two cherubim with
their wings raised symbolize the
41
:presence of God among the people.
42
:God wanted blue, purple, and
scarlet thread to be woven
43
:into the textiles and fabrics.
44
:I thought it was interesting to learn
how they would've created these colors.
45
:Blue would've been from a shellfish
purple from the secretion of a meric
46
:snail and the crimson was from powdering
eggs and the bodies of worms which had
47
:attached themselves to Holly Plants.
48
:I think it's amazing.
49
:How these things were discovered.
50
:And Egypt had a reputation for
producing really excellent, fine linen.
51
:And I promise I didn't plan this,
but today on the Again podcast,
52
:Betsy and I talk about how color
coding our Bibles has absolutely
53
:transformed our view of scripture.
54
:Someone could read today's
reading and just think, wow,
55
:there is a lot of repetition.
56
:Lord, why did you put this in your word?
57
:But when I think about the context.
58
:I can understand why their obedience
would've blessed the heart of God.
59
:This section of scripture is surely
in the Israelites highlight reel.
60
:Think about it.
61
:God rescues them in a mighty powerful way.
62
:within days they're complaining
about their source of water,
63
:wishing they would've died in Egypt.
64
:Then they're complaining
about their lack of food.
65
:And then water again, and all the
time God is providing for them
66
:then they get to Mount Sinai.
67
:70 of the elders go up and Moses,
68
:but then Moses gets to go to
the tap and as the people are
69
:waiting, they're wondering.
70
:What happened to this man?
71
:Maybe he's dead.
72
:But you know what I thought about today?
73
:We know that God was still
reigning down the manna every day.
74
:Every single day.
75
:He reigned it down for 40
years except on the Sabbath.
76
:So while Moses was up there and
they were wondering what happened,
77
:they were still being provided for.
78
:How did they fall into idolatry?
79
:But it's convicting.
80
:When I think about, every single
day, God is providing for me.
81
:I live in a warm house
with a comfortable bed,
82
:and then there'll be a hiccup in the road.
83
:And I can wonder, God, are
you gonna provide for this?
84
:God, are you gonna bless us here?
85
:God tells Moses, this is a stiff necked
people, and I'm still gonna bless
86
:you, but I'm pretty done with them.
87
:God's heart is grieved.
88
:He has performed some of the most
incredible miracles in history
89
:for these people, but it doesn't
seem they return his affection.
90
:Moses intercedes for them and begs
God to continue to go with them.
91
:And next we're told that the
Israelites bring all of the offerings
92
:that God had requested before him
and that they bring so much that
93
:they actually have to be stopped.
94
:And then we have chapter after chapter
saying they followed the directions
95
:exactly as God had commanded.
96
:It almost makes me think of a
wife who's been betrayed and
97
:she lays out a path to say.
98
:Here's what I need you to do If
you're really serious about restoring
99
:our marriage, and if her husband
were to do every single thing on
100
:the list, can you imagine how that
would bless her heart to know, wow,
101
:he's really taking this seriously?
102
:Or think about a prodigal who
has deeply hurt his parents.
103
:And he comes back and he says, mom
and dad, I'm willing to completely
104
:restore their relationship.
105
:I will do whatever you say.
106
:I am a changed man.
107
:Can you imagine their joy?
108
:So when I look at these chapters
of scripture, that at first
109
:glance might seem like complete
repetition of God's directions.
110
:I want you to think
about how their obedience
111
:after their lack of faithfulness
would've blessed the heart of God.
112
:And I'm gonna focus on
those verses today.
113
:In 39, 1 from the blue and
purple and scarlet yarns, they
114
:made finely woven garments for
ministering in the holy place.
115
:They made the holy garments for Aaron as
the Lord had commanded Moses in 39 5.
116
:And the skillfully woven band on it was
of one piece with it and made like it
117
:of gold, blue and purple and scarlet
yarns, and finally, twined linen as the
118
:Lord had commanded Moses in verse seven.
119
:And he set them on the shoulder
pieces of the EOD to be stones of
120
:remembrance for the sons of Israel
as the Lord had commanded Moses.
121
:Verse 21.
122
:And they bound the breast piece by
its rings to the rings of the ephod
123
:with a lace of blue, so that it
should lie on the skillfully woven
124
:band of the ephod and that the breast
peace should not come loose from the
125
:ephod as the Lord had commanded Moses.
126
:Verse 26, a bell and a pomegranate, a
bell and a pomegranate around the hem
127
:of the robe for ministering as the
Lord had commanded Moses in verse
128
:29 and the sash of fine twined linen
and of blue and purple and scarlet
129
:yarns embroidered with needlework
as the Lord had commanded Moses.
130
:In verse 31, and they tied to it a
cord of blue to fasten on the turban
131
:above, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
132
:Verse 32.
133
:Thus, all the work of the tabernacle of
the tent of meaning was finished and
134
:the people of Israel did, according
to all that the Lord had commanded
135
:Moses, so they did in verse 42.
136
:According to all that the
Lord had commanded Moses.
137
:So the people of Israel had done all the
work in verse 43, and Moses saw all the
138
:work, and behold they had done it as the
Lord had commanded, so they had done it.
139
:Then Moses blessed them
140
:in 40 verse 19.
141
:And he spread the tent over the
tabernacle and put the covering
142
:of the tent over it, as the Lord
had commanded Moses, verse 21.
143
:And he brought the ark into the tabernacle
and set up the veil of the screen and
144
:screened the ark of the testimony as the
Lord had commanded Moses in verse 23 and
145
:arranged the bread on it before the Lord.
146
:As the Lord had commanded Moses.
147
:Verse 25 and set up the
lamps before the Lord.
148
:As the Lord had commanded Moses in verse
27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as
149
:the Lord had commanded Moses, verse 29,
and he set the altar of burnt offering
150
:at the entrance of the tabernacle of the
tent of meeting and offered on it the
151
:burnt offering and the grain offering.
152
:As the Lord had commanded Moses and verse
32 when they went into the tent of meeting
153
:and when they approached the altar, they
washed as the Lord commanded Moses.
154
:And he erected the court around the
tabernacle and the altar and set up
155
:the screen of the gate of the court.
156
:So Moses finished the work,
157
:Let's read how God responds.
158
:Then the cloud covered the tent
of meeting and the glory of
159
:the Lord filled the tabernacle.
160
:And Moses was not able to enter
the tent of meeting because
161
:the cloud settled on it.
162
:And the glory of the Lord filled the
tabernacle throughout all their journeys.
163
:Whenever the cloud was taken
up from over the tabernacle.
164
:The people of Israel would set
out, but if the cloud was not taken
165
:up, then they did not set out till
the day that it was taken up for.
166
:The cloud of the Lord was on the
tabernacle by day, and fire was ended by
167
:night in the sight of all the House of
Israel throughout all their journeys.
168
:It is abundantly evident that
this is a God who longs to be
169
:restored to us, to dwell with us.
170
:He is a God of forgiveness,
and he relentlessly makes a
171
:way for us to come back to him.
172
:Heavenly Father, as we read about how this
obedience blessed your heart, we pray that
173
:we would also walk in obedience, the kind
that stems from love and worship of you.
174
:I pray that whatever you are calling us
to, that we would do it for your glory.
175
:When we evaluate our own hearts,
we know we are also a stiff neck
176
:people and we know our children
have that tendency as well.
177
:Even when that awareness is painful.
178
:God, I pray it would bring us to our
knees in repentance and in gratitude,
179
:but that by your spirit You would help
us walk in faithfulness toward you.
180
:Thank you for allowing
us to dwell with you.
181
:It is our greatest treasure.
182
:In the name of the way,
the Truth and the Life.
183
:Jesus Christ, we pray.
184
:Amen.
