Returning your grocery cart isn't a law, and there's definitely no shopping cart police patrolling the parking lot. Yet, I still make it a point to return mine almost every time, not because I’m aiming for a gold star in good citizenship but because it literally takes just 30 seconds to make someone else’s day a little easier. It's all about sharing our public space and doing the right thing—even when no one's watching. Returning your cart isn't required by law.

Nobody gets fined, and there's no shopping cart police.

I hope it's just the right thing to do for the next person, for the workers, for the idea that we share a public space.

There's no reward.

You just didn't make someone else's day harder.

I return my cart almost every time, not because I'm a great person, but because I can spare 30 seconds for a stranger.

And if we can't handle returning a grocery cart, how do we handle the bigger tests of living together?
