Limoncello recipe:
Ingredients:
- Zest of 8 Lemons
- 2 Vanilla Beans
- Bottle of Vodka
- 4 cups water
- 3 cups of sugar
Directions:
- Start with a 1 gal pickle jar (Imperial or American gallon is fine). Peel
- the zest off of 8 or so lemons and place in the pickle jar. You can maybe peel 10 or so if they are the smaller. Throw in two vanilla beans.
- Pour in a bottle of vodka (or equivalent amount of moonshine) and let that sit in a dark cabinet for 6 months. Important! No plastic bottles as that ruins the flavor of the alcohol.
- Making simple syrup: Boil water and sugar to make the syrup and let it cool to room temperature. Then add to the vodka jar.
- Mix with a clean spoon and then put it away to sit in the dark cabinet for another month or so.
Once it is ready to serve you can pour straight from the main jar or pour it into a prettier jar for serving or gifts. It is great for sipping after a big meal of pasta while all the family and friends sit around talking together.
