Transcripts

Speaker:

Welcome home, everybody.

Speaker:

That is to the Conscious Home podcast.

Speaker:

My name is Blanche Garcia and I'm your host.

Speaker:

So, what does it mean to be a soulpreneur?

Speaker:

some of you may be I hear this word.

Speaker:

all the time, and have no idea what that means.

Speaker:

And we all know what it means to be an entrepreneur, right?

Speaker:

it's really interesting, say that a lot, but it is interesting, because I feel

Speaker:

like You're hearing that word much more

Speaker:

often,

Speaker:

people are really following work that sets their soul

Speaker:

on fire.

Speaker:

And Lightworkers, and I say Lightworkers because it's really

Speaker:

those of us on the planet, I consider myself one of them, that

Speaker:

is working, whether

Speaker:

it's in business just

Speaker:

by how they lead their life in alignment with Not only the benefit

Speaker:

of their own soul path, but to benefit the planet and the people around

Speaker:

them

Speaker:

in their own way.

Speaker:

And this could be anybody who just wants to make people happy.

Speaker:

They just want to leave it better than how they got here.

Speaker:

So they may walk around saying, Hope you have a nice day.

Speaker:

It could be that guy on the corner that passes by you and just smiles

Speaker:

where most people aren't even paying attention or have awareness.

Speaker:

He could be a light

Speaker:

worker because just by him

Speaker:

smiling makes you smile and guess what?

Speaker:

That exchange of energy just makes it brighter.

Speaker:

It changes the energy in that space and it's one of those

Speaker:

things that just procreates.

Speaker:

It just keeps going and going.

Speaker:

that could be a lightworker and then also

Speaker:

it could be literally like Gandhi that's like I want to change the

Speaker:

planet or someone for sustainability or someone who's an actor who loves

Speaker:

make people laugh or teachers, It could literally be an artist that just

Speaker:

through their art, they are just so happy and love what they do that the

Speaker:

pieces that they create transform people.

Speaker:

it's really like just anybody that's

Speaker:

working in vibration in alignment with what they want

Speaker:

to do, what brings them joy.

Speaker:

And then that is actually helping other people because believe

Speaker:

it or not, your energy inspires

Speaker:

or activates other

Speaker:

people all the time.

Speaker:

I come across it in what I do.

Speaker:

I'm an interior designer.

Speaker:

I also do conscious home.

Speaker:

So yes, that does help the

Speaker:

planet and people in a lot of ways.

Speaker:

so there's a lot of different things that I do.

Speaker:

But to be honest with you, the biggest way that I see myself as a

Speaker:

lightworker is that I stay really true to who I am and I follow my soul

Speaker:

path, regardless of what that means.

Speaker:

By living that way out loud, by living

Speaker:

with that purpose, I feel like that activates other people to want to

Speaker:

also live their purpose, to want to also be inspired, to

Speaker:

like be their best selves, more so than me being a green designer or, conscious home.

Speaker:

Those are just

Speaker:

of things that I love to create

Speaker:

and it helps people, but in different ways.

Speaker:

I think that since

Speaker:

2020, a lot of people have really been

Speaker:

saying I don't want to do this type of work.

Speaker:

I'm no longer doing what I don't want to do.

Speaker:

I'm going to figure out what I want to do and go

Speaker:

in that direction.

Speaker:

So soulpreneur has been thrown around a lot and it's really somebody

Speaker:

who embodies their business but instead of like saying like I am the

Speaker:

business, male energy warrior and I make decisions

Speaker:

I'm cutthroat and I I want to make the most money I can and forget about you.

Speaker:

It's me first instead of that mentality.

Speaker:

kind of the opposite of it.

Speaker:

It's kind of like the divine feminine in a lot of ways.

Speaker:

And I say that in a way that's not to pit male and female against each other.

Speaker:

It's just that We are now energetically and astrologically in a space that

Speaker:

it really is the rise of the divine feminine, and we're seeing it a

Speaker:

lot with women and this is not just for women, but we're seeing

Speaker:

the rise of the woman entrepreneur.

Speaker:

We're seeing the

Speaker:

divine energy of the feminine Rising

Speaker:

in situations and leading in business

Speaker:

a lot of ways, it's kind of like that intuitive energy.

Speaker:

for instance, how does that manifest in how I run my business and how

Speaker:

does that manifest with a lot

Speaker:

of

Speaker:

solepreneurs?

Speaker:

when you use your and your heart as your guide to make decisions,

Speaker:

it's not like you're making these

Speaker:

decisions in absence of what you, your brain or

Speaker:

what you know to be true physically or what makes sense.

Speaker:

You're just in alignment

Speaker:

that

Speaker:

I make

Speaker:

decisions based on what feels right first.

Speaker:

I check in with myself, my intuition.

Speaker:

I make

Speaker:

sure that The decision that I'm making is in alignment with where I want

Speaker:

my life to go, where I feel like is

Speaker:

my sole

Speaker:

purpose.

Speaker:

It's bigger picture, right?

Speaker:

It's not just what's going to make me the most money.

Speaker:

Now with that, don't get it twisted because we all want abundance.

Speaker:

We can actually have the lives we

Speaker:

want And still make a lot of money.

Speaker:

There's enough money enough abundance to get paid what we deserve.

Speaker:

because there's so much out

Speaker:

there and remember that, you can do what you love and still get paid for it.

Speaker:

And the rule of being a soulpreneur, one of the things that is what I do every day

Speaker:

is that when I'm making a decision or I'm

Speaker:

making an agreement, I want to make sure that the relationship that I'm

Speaker:

having, the agreement that I'm making is not just good

Speaker:

for myself, it's good for the

Speaker:

other party because when

Speaker:

both people are benefiting, everybody

Speaker:

involved in

Speaker:

that is benefiting from the arrangement, from the agreement, from the relationship.

Speaker:

Everybody wins,

Speaker:

the people that work under me,

Speaker:

my staff, I want to make sure that the culture I create, the energy I

Speaker:

create, that They're happy as much

Speaker:

I'm happy.

Speaker:

Now, I still have be the

Speaker:

one charge.

Speaker:

I still have to lead because it's my business.

Speaker:

It's

Speaker:

my

Speaker:

name on the door.

Speaker:

So it's not like I'm some flower child running around me like,

Speaker:

Everybody, whatever choice you want

Speaker:

and I'm just going to go along and love and light.

Speaker:

It's not that.

Speaker:

It's that I'm grounded.

Speaker:

I'm centered.

Speaker:

I know who I am.

Speaker:

and within that I just

Speaker:

ensure that along with me and my happiness, I like to check in

Speaker:

and make sure that everybody's getting what they need out

Speaker:

of this arrangement, right?

Speaker:

And I also make sure is that I'm checking my energy as much

Speaker:

as possible at the door.

Speaker:

So I have bad days just

Speaker:

like anybody

Speaker:

else.

Speaker:

I am.

Speaker:

Human right?

Speaker:

We're all

Speaker:

human and there are days that like literally life gets to me

Speaker:

but when that happens instead of acting out and reacting I

Speaker:

really try to go internal and go, okay, why am I feeling this way?

Speaker:

Let me try to explain to the team, I'm having a crappy day

Speaker:

so they don't think that this is

Speaker:

about them.

Speaker:

If I do have a problem, I do bring it up with them or

Speaker:

even my clients.

Speaker:

So if something's bothering me, I don't let it fester.

Speaker:

And that's one of the things

Speaker:

I activate

Speaker:

soul base.

Speaker:

I make sure I'm coming from my heart.

Speaker:

if there's something that's not.

Speaker:

in alignment something's not right, I'm going to have a

Speaker:

conversation about it and find out from both sides where we can go

Speaker:

from here or explain myself, right?

Speaker:

So again, I'm leading with heart and this comes along with boundaries

Speaker:

too.

Speaker:

I have clients that I like to make sure that I love the people that I work with,

Speaker:

that I love the projects that I work on.

Speaker:

It's not like

Speaker:

a hundred percent we are

Speaker:

Human we have businesses and

Speaker:

sometimes you have to take projects and situations that are okay.

Speaker:

Like you like the

Speaker:

person but you're not going to make a ton of money or you're going to make a

Speaker:

little bit more money and they're nice enough but it's not going to be, it's

Speaker:

going to be like a short project, And sometimes that happens but I really do

Speaker:

try to work with people And on projects that feel good to me, that immediately my

Speaker:

energy's like, yeah, I want to do this,

Speaker:

It doesn't always make sense but yeah, let's do this.

Speaker:

I like

Speaker:

this, right.

Speaker:

when you're in that energy

Speaker:

of running a business, for me

Speaker:

where that

Speaker:

shows up and this doesn't always

Speaker:

make sense for a lot of

Speaker:

other people and I've actually gotten a lot of feedback through

Speaker:

my career even before I started Conscious Home when I was just

Speaker:

doing interior design.

Speaker:

One of the things that everybody

Speaker:

has always told me that

Speaker:

I run my business

Speaker:

very differently than a lot of other people and what that means is that

Speaker:

there are a lot of times that I'll have projects that come to me that I've met

Speaker:

with the client and I looked at

Speaker:

the potential project.

Speaker:

I either had a bad feeling or the

Speaker:

client

Speaker:

was not someone I really felt like I wanted to with.

Speaker:

It didn't feel right.

Speaker:

and I've actually walked away from the project.

Speaker:

I've said no to more projects than actually I've said yes

Speaker:

sometimes.

Speaker:

and there been times that working under me, contractors, architects, you name it.

Speaker:

They've been like, what are you talking about?

Speaker:

bookkeeper, bankers, they're like Blanche.

Speaker:

And

Speaker:

sometimes it's based solely on faith, meaning that I know that

Speaker:

you're looking at this video right.

Speaker:

now and you're saying, but Blanche, you must have so much money in The

Speaker:

bank when you say no to these projects.

Speaker:

No, there are

Speaker:

times.

Speaker:

When literally there is like barely anything in the bank, but I refuse

Speaker:

To fill my energy and my days

Speaker:

with something that's

Speaker:

going

Speaker:

to make me unhappy because that vibration going to bring more of the same

Speaker:

type of project, the same type of energy.

Speaker:

And that's when you're following your own guidance, you're following your intuition.

Speaker:

I take projects that.

Speaker:

Like really, I feel strongly this is a no.

Speaker:

It doesn't leave space for the ones are a yes, because there's

Speaker:

already something in that space.

Speaker:

That's rule.

Speaker:

The rule is two things cannot occupy the

Speaker:

same space.

Speaker:

So you have a choice.

Speaker:

You either want to fill it with crap or things you love.

Speaker:

That's your choice.

Speaker:

And in business, I'm really hyper aware of that.

Speaker:

So I say no to a lot more things than I say yes to The second part

Speaker:

of this is that I've had projects

Speaker:

I'm

Speaker:

literally In the middle of,

Speaker:

you know, there's a lot going on

Speaker:

and then all of a sudden

Speaker:

it's wrong.

Speaker:

It doesn't feel right.

Speaker:

Everything's going wrong.

Speaker:

The client's completely unhappy.

Speaker:

I've had conversations.

Speaker:

There's nothing I do to make them.

Speaker:

happy.

Speaker:

It's just, we're not jiving at that point.

Speaker:

I have

Speaker:

chosen to walk away.

Speaker:

And that

Speaker:

is very interesting

Speaker:

a lot of people.

Speaker:

But when you're in business and you're an entrepreneur and you know, what feels off

Speaker:

when you ignore that, it's like a slow

Speaker:

death.

Speaker:

it

Speaker:

kind of eats away

Speaker:

you every day.

Speaker:

You're

Speaker:

like, Oh, the phone rings.

Speaker:

You're like, Oh, You wake up in the morning,

Speaker:

You're like another day.

Speaker:

That's how people start hating their jobs.

Speaker:

or even hating their lives.

Speaker:

They don't want a deal.

Speaker:

And they end up

Speaker:

saying yes

Speaker:

to these things because

Speaker:

they're like, it's

Speaker:

gonna make them it's going to

Speaker:

get

Speaker:

them.

Speaker:

PR.

Speaker:

It's going to get

Speaker:

them in magazines.

Speaker:

It's going to get them XYZ.

Speaker:

And what they're doing is when they are allowing this to stay in their life,

Speaker:

in their business, they're saying, I

Speaker:

want more of that.

Speaker:

Please send me more

Speaker:

of that.

Speaker:

Please That's what happens.

Speaker:

and What I've also seen in businesses is that you have to be

Speaker:

really hyper aware of

Speaker:

the type of energy

Speaker:

clients,

Speaker:

what you say yes to allow into your because it doesn't only

Speaker:

affect you, it affects the people who work

Speaker:

under you.

Speaker:

So remember that like you're all symbiotic, you're all part of one team.

Speaker:

like, how horrible would it be If I took on clients that I knew

Speaker:

were horrible or projects that I knew were going be like completely horrible,

Speaker:

but I was like, Oh, but I don't have

Speaker:

to deal with them.

Speaker:

I'll just

Speaker:

let my team deal with them.

Speaker:

So now they hate their life.

Speaker:

How long do you think before they're not going to

Speaker:

be around or they're going to not put in the work or they're

Speaker:

not going to put in their

Speaker:

passion?

Speaker:

having a business, being an and going in the direction of not

Speaker:

only following your heart and your intuition and your passion is,

Speaker:

just treating

Speaker:

others and like you would want to be treated, accepting things

Speaker:

that bring you joy and learning

Speaker:

to cut things off and put boundaries up when is out of alignment,

Speaker:

having the tough conversations, being completely transparent.

Speaker:

for instance, my contracts are very transparent.

Speaker:

My clients know exactly What they're getting, how they're getting it.

Speaker:

I spell it all out.

Speaker:

We talk about everything up front.

Speaker:

There is no shadows.

Speaker:

There's no questioning later on.

Speaker:

I do this because I don't want the stress in my life of having

Speaker:

to hide or figure it out later.

Speaker:

That's when it becomes an issue.

Speaker:

communication up front working with integrity.

Speaker:

So if you're going to work with integrity, you want be open and communicative and

Speaker:

make sure everything's out on the table.

Speaker:

Have the tough conversations early

Speaker:

on.

Speaker:

It's when you get married, you don't wait till you're married and

Speaker:

already in it before you discuss

Speaker:

having children or where you're going to live.

Speaker:

you do that before You get married and all those things, even though

Speaker:

some people don't, you know, that's a whole different conversation.

Speaker:

So make sure everything's really, really clear.

Speaker:

I would rather

Speaker:

you know where I stand so that I know what I will

Speaker:

and will not do.

Speaker:

You know what expect from me.

Speaker:

It's really important.

Speaker:

I set up my

Speaker:

business that there is these ahead of time.

Speaker:

Another thing that I do, I realized, and

Speaker:

I went really deep as an entrepreneur, and say this to anybody running their

Speaker:

business, what are the biggest stressors

Speaker:

in my business And how do I get rid

Speaker:

of those So one of the big

Speaker:

stressors in my business as an interior designer, I remember this,

Speaker:

Is, obviously chasing money, right?

Speaker:

So how do I not chase money?

Speaker:

and also, every day have

Speaker:

be in the books?

Speaker:

Cause I hate dealing with numbers.

Speaker:

I'm much more happier and I'm in my happy space when I'm creating and that's

Speaker:

most creative people.

Speaker:

So how do I do more of that and less of the other, right?

Speaker:

and so for

Speaker:

instance, in my

Speaker:

industry, I'll give you an example.

Speaker:

commissions.

Speaker:

like, to buy furniture

Speaker:

through a designer.

Speaker:

Usually it's very commission based.

Speaker:

And if you buy a piece of furniture through them, you have to pay

Speaker:

part

Speaker:

of the

Speaker:

commission.

Speaker:

But with that, there's a deep

Speaker:

discount designer gets and, they pass along some that

Speaker:

discount, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Speaker:

So either way, you're

Speaker:

paying the designer for the use of their discount, but you're

Speaker:

also the designer, the managing of

Speaker:

that product because they are going to be the ones dealing with the ordering,

Speaker:

making sure everything gets to where it needs to be and then having it delivered

Speaker:

and everything should be great, In a perfect world, there's nothing broken,

Speaker:

blah, blah, blah.

Speaker:

So the designer

Speaker:

carries that headache a lot of designers out there in my career when

Speaker:

I started out, they had a range of commissions.

Speaker:

They're like, Oh, well, if it's this, it's going to be that.

Speaker:

If

Speaker:

this it's gonna be that.

Speaker:

There was like a lot of paperwork a lot of ups and downs of commissions.

Speaker:

you were

Speaker:

constantly trying to follow well, do I do this?

Speaker:

And the client would upset if they found out this and bop, bop, bop, bop.

Speaker:

It

Speaker:

was like a lot of that stuff.

Speaker:

And I said early on, I'm not doing that.

Speaker:

It's one

Speaker:

number One commission And if they don't want to buy it

Speaker:

me, I'm okay with that because it's extremely tedious.

Speaker:

So I'm going to be completely open and upfront with them about what I make.

Speaker:

I'm going to be upfront with them about this is one set

Speaker:

commission, take it or leave it.

Speaker:

They don't have to buy it through me.

Speaker:

I'm okay with that.

Speaker:

And I'm going to structure my pricing accordingly so that I can get paid for

Speaker:

What I love to do which is a creative and if they don't buy a product through

Speaker:

me I don't really care because I've made the money on what I love to do so I'm

Speaker:

not chasing and putting my mind and my energy something that I already hate

Speaker:

doing now

Speaker:

that's.

Speaker:

Very controversial, but I did that

Speaker:

for my peace mind, because my peace mind made more

Speaker:

sense

Speaker:

than making as much money as I could squeeze out of every piece of furniture

Speaker:

and every client.

Speaker:

I care less that.

Speaker:

But oddly

Speaker:

enough what happens is, is that when I'm working with a client and

Speaker:

I give them that option and I'm very upfront with them about it, the

Speaker:

majority of the time they usually buy 90 percent of the items through

Speaker:

me.

Speaker:

And I don't care.

Speaker:

I mean, it's great.

Speaker:

It's like

Speaker:

that cherry on top, but I allow my

Speaker:

peace of mind.

Speaker:

That's the guiding light.

Speaker:

I want to be creative.

Speaker:

I want my peace of mind.

Speaker:

I want my team to be happy.

Speaker:

I want to come

Speaker:

to work and be happy.

Speaker:

I don't have to make the most money out there.

Speaker:

Those are the

Speaker:

things that matter to me.

Speaker:

but if I do all of those things right,

Speaker:

then everything else follows.

Speaker:

And I'm a really big believer in that.

Speaker:

So when we

Speaker:

talk about being a soulpreneur, when we talk

Speaker:

about, running

Speaker:

our business with integrity and just following our purpose and having the heart

Speaker:

in it, those are some of the things that, in my opinion, sets those types companies,

Speaker:

my company apart from, the average And I feel like that's more prevalent today.

Speaker:

Maybe some of these things resonate you and there are small steps

Speaker:

that you can take in running your business that you're like, Hey, I

Speaker:

want to be a little bit happier.

Speaker:

I want to resonate more with the type of work I'm doing.

Speaker:

I would like my staff to be happy as well.

Speaker:

I know it's crazy, right?

Speaker:

And then it kind of like all kind of goes together.

Speaker:

One hand washes the other.

Speaker:

I will say since I've been doing

Speaker:

this, it's the only way I know how to run my business.

Speaker:

And sometimes the decisions that I make,

Speaker:

are not the mainstream what everybody would do.

Speaker:

So these are just some of the

Speaker:

things that I have implemented that they've always resonated with me I always

Speaker:

felt like this is the right way to do things what's funny is is that in that

Speaker:

in 2020 a big thing that came out of the pandemic or people working from home

Speaker:

I actually

Speaker:

always had a hybrid type work calendar or schedule

Speaker:

I always have like a hybrid work schedule with my team.

Speaker:

And as we have grown and we have scaled, I still have a hybrid work schedule.

Speaker:

And that is because it always made me happy and there's like a flow to the week.

Speaker:

Like some days you need collaboration and we love getting together.

Speaker:

And then there are some days that I want to work alone.

Speaker:

I don't want to be around anybody and I feel like, well,

Speaker:

they probably feel that way.

Speaker:

So because of that.

Speaker:

With my own personal company and my staff, we have a hybrid work week

Speaker:

where some people work from home, some people come in, it's pretty flexible.

Speaker:

There are days that are like, these are the

Speaker:

days we're in office it's more of a team collaboration and we love that and we kind

Speaker:

of have our own little thing going on.

Speaker:

And I always make sure the culture

Speaker:

too.

Speaker:

You know, as a small business owner, I'm not some big conglomerate

Speaker:

and I can't offer all the

Speaker:

perks that a huge company can offer.

Speaker:

But what I do offer is that I make sure that I check in with everybody.

Speaker:

They love the work that they're doing.

Speaker:

I like to make

Speaker:

sure that, if they need something, to the best of my

Speaker:

ability, I always try to do that.

Speaker:

And I always try to make sure that

Speaker:

we have a little flexibility.

Speaker:

fun.

Speaker:

Like the other day, we had a vision board session, and we were drinking wine.

Speaker:

Some of us like health smoothies, listening to music and we were really

Speaker:

goal setting and vision boarding because I feel like together that

Speaker:

creates a collective energy that really sets us up So I thought that vision

Speaker:

boarding, that's actually not a word.

Speaker:

We had a discussion about that.

Speaker:

It's creating vision boards.

Speaker:

So

Speaker:

you just let me know because I feel like vision boarding is like waterboarding,

Speaker:

which is not what we're talking about.

Speaker:

We're talking about vision boards anyway.

Speaker:

That is a great

Speaker:

team building exercise that I can get behind because it was literally girl

Speaker:

fest and I'm not gonna lie to you.

Speaker:

Like my team is like my family.

Speaker:
