Speaker:

what's up, beautiful ladies, Dr.

2

:

Emily Kiberd here with

Thyroid Strong Podcast.

3

:

I wanted to invite on a very special mama.

4

:

She is a mama to two girls, one

toddler, one newborn, and she came

5

:

to me doing 90 minutes of spinning or

a spin class and then high intensity

6

:

interval training six days a week.

7

:

Had full blown Hashimoto's

could not lose weight.

8

:

And she's like, M is this

thyroid strong program?

9

:

This six weeks, really all

that is cracked up to be?

10

:

Is it really gonna change my life?

11

:

And I was like, yes, girl, jump in.

12

:

And so she jumped in, she

lost 12 pounds, she lost 10.2

13

:

inches, and she was still.

14

:

Taking care of her baby girls.

15

:

So I wanted to share her story in

her words because her words are so

16

:

powerful and an amazing transformation

that I wanted to share with you all.

17

:

I also wanted to share it that thyroid

strong is 40% off until this Thursday may.

18

:

22nd.

19

:

It is number 40% off.

20

:

Normally it's like a hundred dollars off.

21

:

Today it's $200 off for

the next three days.

22

:

Little pre Memorial Day flash sale called

Summer Slim Down Thyroid Strong Style.

23

:

It is thyroid friendly workouts, three

workouts a week, PDFs, full videos.

24

:

You just press, play and go, and

then a whole vault of interviews with

25

:

different functional medicine docs on

different root causes of Hashimoto's.

26

:

It is amazing.

27

:

a thousand women have gone through the

program, and if you want in, it will

28

:

never be this low of a price again.

29

:

So jump in.

30

:

I'm gonna put the link in the show notes

https://www.dremilykiberd.com/tssummer/

31

:

and, and I hope to see you inside.

32

:

I worked out up until

the day I had Sienna.

33

:

I'm doing this again.

34

:

Body allowed.

35

:

Before you started Thyroid Strong, can

you share what some of your struggles

36

:

or symptoms or frustrations were?

37

:

Before starting Thyroid Strong,

I did the typical route.

38

:

I, when I was first diagnosed with

Hashimoto's and hypothyroid, I was

39

:

already struggling for a year postpartum.

40

:

I knew something was up and doctors

didn't want to do the lab work.

41

:

They just said, it's

fine, it's postpartum.

42

:

It's postpartum.

43

:

So, I, when I then was diagnosed, I

decided, I'm just going to listen to my

44

:

endocrinologist, let me just take my Levo

and hope for the best, continue what I was

45

:

doing the whole time prior to postpartum.

46

:

After I was diagnosed, I was working out.

47

:

I was eating pretty

clean, like pretty well.

48

:

I knew what, I know what to do.

49

:

I said that to Emily, I know what to do.

50

:

Is this for me?

51

:

And yes, it is for you.

52

:

So if you're like me and you're

thinking like, is thyroid strong for me?

53

:

Yes, it is.

54

:

Um, And I was struggling with hair loss,

fatigue, I had no energy, my joints hurt,

55

:

um, and that was with already working out.

56

:

I was a hit workout junkie, like,

let me just admit it, I was, and

57

:

when I first started Thyroid Strong

day one, I was like, Emily, are

58

:

you sure this is going to work?

59

:

Like, should I add in cardio?

60

:

And she's like, just do the program.

61

:

And I did, and it was amazing, and it's

crazy how, I don't want to, I don't

62

:

want to diminish and say how less, I

felt like I was exerting myself, but

63

:

honestly, yes, I was exerting myself

less, lifting a ton heavier than I was

64

:

prior and just feeling better overall.

65

:

And I remember like two

weeks in, I was like, okay.

66

:

Wow, my back doesn't hurt anymore.

67

:

And I was a chronic, like throwing out

your back and then add on postpartum.

68

:

It's not fun.

69

:

So needless to say, this was very helpful

and it just helped me feel strong again.

70

:

It helped me lower the inflammation,

which for me has always been a struggle.

71

:

I have celiac disease and now

hypothyroid Hashimoto's and I had

72

:

muscle activation in the past.

73

:

So needless to say, inflammation

is not my BFF and I needed to make

74

:

sure that I did something to take

that down because of course, if you.

75

:

have Hashimoto's, you know, your

antibodies are going through the roof and

76

:

you just need to tackle that because you

don't need another situation like that.

77

:

So needless to say, thyroid strong health.

78

:

Yeah.

79

:

What kind of HIIT workouts were you doing?

80

:

What did they look like?

81

:

How long were they originally?

82

:

Oh, you want the long answer?

83

:

Sure.

84

:

So, okay.

85

:

So prior to COVID, my HIIT

workouts I was doing, I did spin.

86

:

I worked at a spin studio

and I did spin 70s a week.

87

:

Multiple double classes, and

you know that's very intense.

88

:

I also did two to three Zumba classes

a week on top of my normal workouts.

89

:

I was like a workout junkie.

90

:

I loved it.

91

:

I was very into fitness at the time.

92

:

Um, looking back, it was probably

not a healthy relationship.

93

:

And it was just It was what I did.

94

:

I felt good.

95

:

I felt strong doing that.

96

:

Was I constantly throwing out my back?

97

:

Yes, I was.

98

:

I was living at my chiropractor's office.

99

:

And she's like, Sarah, like, I think you

need to, like, tone it back a little.

100

:

And I was like, I'm fine.

101

:

Just fix me up.

102

:

And she's like, okay, like,

I don't know about this.

103

:

And it wasn't until COVID hit that I came

to a crashing halt and I was just doing my

104

:

normal home workouts that I've been doing

for years because the studio was closed.

105

:

And so it wasn't too bad.

106

:

So I did that, and it was weird.

107

:

All of a sudden, I was able to lose

weight and the inflammation was

108

:

coming off, and hmm, wonder why.

109

:

Um, probably because my workouts were

dialed back so much, and again, I

110

:

already have a autoimmune background.

111

:

I was already struggling with

autoimmune disease prior to my thyroid,

112

:

and then it wasn't until pregnancy

that I was like, You know what?

113

:

Let's try low impact a bit more, but me

being me, I love a little adrenaline in

114

:

my life, and I And we'll do HIIT workouts

two to three days a week, still while

115

:

pregnant, like, up until I gave birth.

116

:

Um, and then it wasn't until I

was diagnosed with Hashimoto's

117

:

and hypothyroid that I was like,

okay, I need to get serious.

118

:

going through Thyroid Strong, what

kind of shifts did you see afterwards,

119

:

whether they were mental or physical

So needless to say, when I started

120

:

Thyroid Strong, I did notice shifts.

121

:

I love to food journal and just like write

down how I'm feeling, things like that.

122

:

Good old autoimmune.

123

:

You have to write it down sometimes.

124

:

And I noticed I had less

brain fog and that's huge.

125

:

And I always know something's up

with me when I have brain fog.

126

:

I just know I'm a girl from Boston.

127

:

I talk fast.

128

:

And when I'm struggling with words.

129

:

I will say, it happens sometimes right

now I'm pregnant, it happens still, but

130

:

it's, it's different when you're pregnant.

131

:

Needless to say, I was struggling with

the brain fog, I was struggling with the

132

:

fatigue, I was oversleeping, my daughter

was up before me, you know, at the time.

133

:

She just turned two and she was up

before me and I was like, oh shit, like,

134

:

don't have time to do my workout, she's

gonna be with me, the day's ruined.

135

:

It's not ruined.

136

:

And I feel like I was able to

have more of a positive attitude

137

:

because I was feeling good.

138

:

It wasn't like, oh, let me just go through

the motions of life and hope for the best.

139

:

It was like, okay, i'm

finally feeling better.

140

:

Oh, wow.

141

:

I have more energy for stairs.

142

:

We have four flights We have four

floors in our house, so we have,

143

:

what, eight flights of stairs?

144

:

I do a lot of stairs, and it was a

point in time that anytime I have

145

:

autoimmune flare ups, the stairs hurt.

146

:

And I just knew this was going to help me.

147

:

And then on top of it, with the

thyroid strong, I noticed that I

148

:

started feeling less inflamed, and

the scales started moving down.

149

:

And I, I know it's not all about

that, guys, but hear me out.

150

:

When you're struggling

with thyroid issues.

151

:

It feels really nice to see this go down.

152

:

It just does.

153

:

It just does.

154

:

And you're like, okay, the needle's

moving in the right direction.

155

:

You know, something is changing on top

of how you're already feeling better.

156

:

I remember you, DMing me and you're

like, I lost this amount of pounds

157

:

and I lost, this number of inches.

158

:

Do you remember what those numbers were?

159

:

Yeah, Pretty sure when I did my

first round of thyroid strong, I

160

:

think I was just under 10 pounds

down and that's incredible.

161

:

And that was with already

working out prior and.

162

:

Not seeing the scale go down.

163

:

It was honestly just going up and

I think it was about 12 inches.

164

:

And that's, that's insane.

165

:

You guys just doing that with

scaling back my workouts.

166

:

I was like, wait a minute.

167

:

I'm doing three lifts a week

and two, like, active kind

168

:

of recovery days, you know?

169

:

Like, this is incredible.

170

:

That was, when you texted me

that, I was like, yes, girl.

171

:

I remember I was like, okay,

now to find heavier weights.

172

:

Okay.

173

:

And I remember I scored a huge

heavy dumbbell at Marshalls, of

174

:

all places, and I was like, yes!

175

:

And I was like, this isn't

gonna last me forever.

176

:

Mm mm.

177

:

Two weeks later, too light.

178

:

people who are on the fence, who are

like, I don't know, maybe is this for me?

179

:

if you were going to speak to Sarah Pre

Thyroid Strong, what would you tell her if

180

:

she was like, I want to, but I don't know.

181

:

That's exactly me.

182

:

I had this exact conversation with my

mom before signing up for Thyroid Strong.

183

:

We were sitting on the couch

and she's like, just do it.

184

:

And I was, she has Hashimoto's

and hypothyroid as well.

185

:

And she's like, I'll do it with you.

186

:

And I was like, Well,

what if it doesn't work?

187

:

You know, like I've tried everything

and you know, that is my brain.

188

:

I'm a very sassy lady.

189

:

And I was like, you know what?

190

:

F it.

191

:

Let's just, I don't know if I'm so sore.

192

:

I was like, F it.

193

:

Let's just do this.

194

:

And so I did signed up and I

remember the next day I was like,

195

:

wait, where do I find the calendar?

196

:

Cause I was ready to rumble.

197

:

Like I was ready to go.

198

:

if I was talking to my former

self, I would just say like,

199

:

you have nothing to lose.

200

:

Okay.

201

:

The price is very reasonable.

202

:

And just think of like

how much money you blow.

203

:

Like if you shopping or black Friday

or online shopping, whatever it may be,

204

:

your health is worth much more than that.

205

:

It's invaluable.

206

:

Yeah.

207

:

Especially as a mom, it's invaluable.

208

:

when I was first diagnosed, I was

like, my whole goal is to get my

209

:

health back, to have enough energy, to

be with my kiddo, and be present and

210

:

patient, and wake up with them, right?

211

:

what has changed with your,

with your daughter, if anything?

212

:

Yeah.

213

:

So, since finishing Thyroid Strong, I've,

I think I've done it like three times.

214

:

Who are five times now.

215

:

And now I still live during pregnancy.

216

:

I'm 17 weeks and I have more

energy than I did when I started.

217

:

And that's after having a really

rough beginning of this pregnancy.

218

:

I was still able to work out, and I

just dialed it back just a smidge until

219

:

I was feeling better, but having more

energy with her just feels so good.

220

:

I remember it just was so painful

before having, going for a walk

221

:

was painful, playing painful, and

I just wanted to make sure that I

222

:

had more energy, and especially now

I'm gonna have a newborn in March.

223

:

You gotta have that energy, you guys.

224

:

You can't be like, living

off of caffeine like I was.

225

:

I totally cut caffeine as

well, prior to Thyroid Strong.

226

:

It was actually the first thing

I did when I was diagnosed with

227

:

hypothyroid and Hashimoto's.

228

:

I was like, okay, let's

just go cold turkey.

229

:

and I just feel like I have so much more

energy even without caffeine or anything.

230

:

Yeah.

231

:

Tell me about Disney.

232

:

You texted me this.

233

:

This Disney trip compared

to the prior Disney trip.

234

:

Okay, so let's just talk.

235

:

Let's just, elephant in the room,

Disney is a lot of walking, you guys.

236

:

Add on having autoimmune disease.

237

:

Can I take them back a little farther?

238

:

Please do.

239

:

Okay, so 2015 through 2017, I was

going through a ton of health issues.

240

:

It turns out I was living

in a home with black mold.

241

:

It was very traumatic.

242

:

I was diagnosed with Mast

Cell Activation Disorder.

243

:

I was found out I was anaphylactic to

allergies that I had no idea about.

244

:

No idea.

245

:

and it just kept progressing so severely.

246

:

And I had no energy.

247

:

I remember going to Disney.

248

:

I went to Disney with my mom for the first

time after she had knee replacements,

249

:

and she thought she'd never be able

to go back again, and now my mom

250

:

just thought it was wrong, you guys.

251

:

She's amazing.

252

:

She's been working out for, you know, 12

years now, doing incredible, and when she

253

:

first started, she couldn't walk at all.

254

:

Um, and we went to Disney,

and I brought all my food in.

255

:

I have celiac disease as well, and I

didn't know how they would deal with

256

:

food allergies and celiac disease.

257

:

I was struggling so bad.

258

:

I had to stop every time we saw a

seat because I was in so much pain.

259

:

I was going through so much inflammation.

260

:

My joints were a mess.

261

:

I was getting tested for lupus.

262

:

They thought I had lupus

or rheumatoid arthritis.

263

:

Turns out I do not.

264

:

It was severe inflammation.

265

:

So fast forward, let's

,:

266

:

We went to Disney, my whole family.

267

:

My daughter was our first trip.

268

:

It was incredible.

269

:

But I had no energy and I was so inflamed.

270

:

And by the end of the trip,

my clothes felt so tight.

271

:

Obviously it's theme park food,

even if it's gluten free, I

272

:

have to be gluten free for life.

273

:

It's still not quality food.

274

:

It's just not, let's be honest.

275

:

It's theme park.

276

:

Um, they do do the best they can

and you can make amazing options.

277

:

I do it all the time, but my clothes

just were snug and my face was

278

:

inflamed and I'm like, something is up.

279

:

And I felt like anytime I was

carrying my daughter at that

280

:

time, she was a year and a half.

281

:

She felt so heavy.

282

:

And I was like, I'm

lifting, what is going on?

283

:

Fast forward to this May, May 2024.

284

:

I was, I think, I think I was one

round into thyroid strong or two.

285

:

I think I was in the middle of two.

286

:

We were in Disney.

287

:

It was my mom, my daughter, and I,

and my husband stayed back this one.

288

:

It was a girl's trip.

289

:

Let's just say my daughter

had a really hard time.

290

:

She was almost two and a half.

291

:

and she had a really hard time.

292

:

We didn't know she had a double

ear infection, and it was very

293

:

severe, and she refused to walk.

294

:

She refused to sit in the stroller, and

she was very cranky, and that's not her.

295

:

She is a sassy little stinger,

and I held her the entire time.

296

:

And I had no back pain.

297

:

And it was incredible.

298

:

I'm not gonna lie, it was amazing.

299

:

I carried her through Epcot.

300

:

Like, you've been to Epcot.

301

:

It's a lot.

302

:

It's a lot of walking.

303

:

It was also raining the whole trip.

304

:

So I was holding her

with an umbrella in hand.

305

:

And I remember my muscles just burning.

306

:

And I was like, well, this

is my lifting for the week.

307

:

And I was like, what would a

chiropractor say right now?

308

:

Like, Emily, um, switch arms.

309

:

I was trying because I'm very prone

to, like, throwing one hip out.

310

:

Um, you know, mom hip.

311

:

And so needless to say,

I felt so much stronger.

312

:

And I remember texting her and I was

just like, Yeah, this is a big change.

313

:

And I remember my mom was like,

Hey, do you need some help?

314

:

And I'm like, I got this.

315

:

Keep it moving.

316

:

Just keep it moving.

317

:

You push the stroller.

318

:

The empty stroller.

319

:

That, you know, expensive stroller.

320

:

Just keep it moving.

321

:

And it turns out she had a double ear

infection and the poor thing was not well.

322

:

But I'm thankful I was able to carry her.

323

:

Cause normally I would

have relied on my husband.

324

:

He's a much taller, bigger

guy than him, you know?

325

:

And so it felt so good, to do that.

326

:

It really did.

327

:

Yeah, I love that.

328

:

Like, this is why we lift, ladies.

329

:

Yeah, literally, this is why, with

a diaper bag on your back and all.

330

:

Oh yeah, that is why.

331

:

Felt like a pack mule.

332

:

part of the goal of Thyroid Strong is

to remove restrictions in women's lives.

333

:

the example of being able to

carry your daughter, that is

334

:

like removing a restriction.

335

:

Can you think of other things

where, Thyroid Strong has given you

336

:

more freedom, to do certain things

and what would those things be?

337

:

Yeah, so some restrictions that I've

been able to lift since doing Thyroid

338

:

Strong, of course, carrying my daughter.

339

:

She's 35 pounds.

340

:

That's not light when, especially

when they're tired and they

341

:

just throw your dad weight.

342

:

Um, or carrying her,

sleeping through Disney.

343

:

You guys know how that is.

344

:

If you have kids, how much heavier

they are when they're sleeping.

345

:

being able to just bend down

constantly and not throw my back

346

:

out, um, prior to thyroid strong.

347

:

This might be due to terrible form.

348

:

I'm not sure.

349

:

I used to throw my back out every

time I did a deadlift, every time.

350

:

So when I saw that was like

the number one move on thyroid

351

:

strong, I was like, Oh shit.

352

:

I almost texted you and was like,

Hey, I'm a little nervous about this.

353

:

I'm like, Nope, shut up and do it.

354

:

That's just what I told myself.

355

:

I have no issues.

356

:

Thanks.

357

:

Transcribed Even while pregnant now and

my, like, center of gravity has changed.

358

:

Nope, no restrictions.

359

:

And I've been able to just go up in

weight again without throwing my back out.

360

:

I, um, have some issues in my back.

361

:

I fell when I was in high school.

362

:

And I chipped my tailbone.

363

:

And I have some discs that just

like to slip out of place a lot.

364

:

That's been totally great.

365

:

Which is incredible.

366

:

Seriously, like I said before, I was

living in the chiropractor's office prior.

367

:

And, what other restrictions?

368

:

Do you go to your chiropractor less now?

369

:

So, I have to go back because of

pregnancy, but I was going, like, prior

370

:

to COVID, like, I was going all the time.

371

:

Like, three times a week.

372

:

Whoa.

373

:

Which is like, okay, like,

your body is not happy.

374

:

And I was having crazy tension

in my neck and everything.

375

:

Yeah.

376

:

Um, but I love them for, like, prevention.

377

:

how often would you say?

378

:

Oh, just like, as needed,

like once a month or so.

379

:

Oh.

380

:

Yeah.

381

:

Awesome.

382

:

That's amazing.

383

:

But like going up the stairs in our

house and just running around, like, oh,

384

:

I forgot something, let me go grab it.

385

:

In the past I'd be like,

that can wait, can't do that.

386

:

Um, my husband jokes that my energy is

back so much that he can't take it because

387

:

at night my daughter and I just like

have so much energy and we're just wild.

388

:

And.

389

:

That's just how we are as people,

and that for me was gone for a while,

390

:

and I feel like my personality is

back because I'm feeling better.

391

:

Hmm, so good.

392

:

Yeah.

393

:

So good.

394

:

is there anything else

you would want to share?

395

:

Yeah, I will finish it with this, is I

would really recommend Thyroid Strong

396

:

for anyone that just feels like they're

struggling and they've tried everything.

397

:

no progress, you have hypothyroid

398

:

or Hashimoto's, and you just

feel like you need a change,

399

:

you really have nothing to lose.

400

:

And I say that as a friend,

you have nothing to lose.

401

:

if it changes your life, because

402

:

you'll never know until you try.

:

I love that.
