Today’s passage marks a turning point and sets the tone for the rest of the Gospel account of John. From this point on, he will be explaining why the Jewish leaders hated Jesus. After healing the lame man by the pool, Jesus tells him to take up his bed and walk. According to the Law of the Pharisees, moving your mat was a disgrace and a sin against God and the Sabbath. Did Jesus have the man commit a crime? And what was the man’s response when the Pharisees questioned him? Did he defend Jesus and stand up for Him? Or did he stand up for the world? When someone confronts you about your faith what do you do?

My goal is that their hearts, having been knit together in love, may be encouraged, and that they may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. - Colossians 2:2-3
