As our children develop their own identities, it’s up to parents to teach them how to interact with other cultures, beliefs and backgrounds. It all starts with self-reflection, developing an understanding of our own cultural beliefs and biases. From there, we can acknowledge the history of systemic oppression against minority cultures, developing compassion and empathy along the way. Finally, and with humility, we can begin to challenge our conscious and unconscious biases. In this podcast episode, Tony Cepeda, LMFT, teaches us how to encourage our children’s curiosity at home, in order to foster respect and understanding of the world at-large.
