Noah: The Movement & Pain Specialist

[:

[00:00:04] Noah: Thank you so much. Thank you so much for having me appreciate you.

[:

[00:00:10] , to join us today. All right. So, the, the podcast is called life. Got in the way. So I want you to kind of talk to our listeners a little bit and tell them a little bit about your background and, so they can kind of get a little bit a sense of who you are and what you do.

[:

[00:00:52] That was another really champ challenging thing for me. Um, still, you know, still have to. [00:01:00] Just move through that in different ways. But, um, yeah, it was just me and my mom grew up on an island, um, lots of beach time and fun times with my friends. Um, of course didn't always follow the right roads. Uh, got into some complications with that, just doing things that I shouldn't have done.

[:

[00:01:46] Um, school was challenging for me and there wasn't a lot of. I'm Italian. So I'm, light-skinned there wasn't a lot of light-skinned individuals where I grew up here. So that was kind of, I was kind of a [00:02:00] minority. Um, and that's, uh, you know, that had an effect on me, for sure. Just being teased and kind of bullied and such throughout my life.

[:

[00:02:36] So, so that was kinda what I did a long time worked in the hotels and the restaurants. Um, and then kind of surfed all day. It was like surf a day and work at night, kind of an environment. And a lot of my friends did the same, uh, I went through some, some ups and downs through that. Um, and then I started kind of through that.

[:

[00:03:45] Um, but I was still doing drugs and alcohol and that kind of, it wasn't really working out for me. I got sober and long story short, I got to meet, you know, um, who is my [00:04:00] wife now my best friend. Um, we were both sober at the time. And so it worked out well. She's I started a family. I started a family. I've three kids, 17, eight, and four.

[:

[00:04:33] Nikki C: Awesome. Awesome. So you mentioned you were, as you say, a leaf blowing in the wind.

[:

[00:05:01] Noah: Um, I always kind of, well, I was really insecure. First of all, growing up, I was really skinny and really insecure about my body.

[:

[00:05:36] And, um, I started to not really, uh, care about. People's opinions and things of that nature, but going back to exercise. Yeah, I started doing it because I was insecure that made me feel good. Um, at the time, uh, did that for a long time and different variations of that, and kind of explore different avenues and different techniques and such.

[:

[00:06:19] I shouldn't do that. It was, it was a weird experience. Honestly, I wasn't crippled, but I thought about people that were in worse situations than me, you know? And I'm like, wait a minute here. There's gotta be a different way. And then I started to, uh, um, well, at the time my son, my younger son is 17 now, but at the time he's still playing.

[:

[00:07:06] And, um, and through that, I was like, wow, this is pain-free. This is something that, and I dive deep into that and I stopped. You know, all, all these years and, um, just, just really getting the pain out of my own self first. And then when COVID happened, that it was just another layer of, of, of awareness, of, of how our health system is.

[:

[00:07:51] And it was kinda, that's kinda how I thought of COVID as well, you know, as just being. And exposed a lot and, and, and [00:08:00] it's like, wow problems here. And yeah. And, and even more value injected, tremendous value in my life because of all the things that I've been through. And now I have that experience to share with others, all the pain, all the back pain, neck pain, this pain, that pain, all the trauma, you know, emotional, mental things of that nature.

[:

[00:08:54] Um, it's like

[:

[00:09:04] Noah: been around for years. Absolutely. A quick story off of that story, it says like, it's almost like we, we needed to go back way back to, to move forward. And, and when we went back, you know, we, we did real simple things.

[:

[00:09:44] And. Thinking clearly and things of that nature, um, are important, you know,

[:

[00:09:54] Noah: for sure. And then it's like, okay, now, you know, we have [00:10:00] all these things. That need to be fixing. It's like there's a lot of fixing that needs to be done is what I see

[:

[00:10:14] Can you just kind of, kind of give us a brief idea of what that is and what that entails and how it would have benefited you

[:

[00:10:28] Nikki C: Yeah.

[:

[00:10:38] And I think that's a really important aspect. Of even this conversation is, is to become more of problem solvers, right. And trying to figure things out on our own and, and things of that nature, but really it's just the study of human movement and how it moves through space and how well it moves through space.

[:

[00:11:15] Nikki C: Um, uh, thank you. Thank you for that. So for the, uh, um, not just the biomechanics, but you also, um, I was going through your website and watching some of your videos and you really talk about the importance of. Posture and breathing. I mean, a lot of people we don't, you know, we don't think about posture and how good that can make us feel.

[:

[00:11:52] Noah: Absolutely NICU all, you know, what I tell my clients is like, you know, there's a couple of things that I tell them. One is I [00:12:00] don't, it doesn't matter to me how much. I mean, it doesn't matter really how much money you got.

[:

[00:12:26] Um, things are moving through early. The blood's not flowing through. It's not getting into the capillaries, into the tissues, into the body and circulating, um, uh, and then, and then the poor posture can affect your nervous system, which breaks down your immunity. And so it's all correlated there. Um, we need to have really good posture and we need to be aware as just being aware of.

[:

[00:13:17] And so I think w posture. I said the number one, like I, I help people from the feet up, but, uh, but as soon as we make some subtle adjustments and it's, it's usually, I mean, everyone's different. I don't want to say some are easier than others, but there's some small little things that you can do that can really change the outcome.

[:

[00:13:42] Nikki C: I'm glad you mentioned the small little things that we can do. As a matter of fact, I was like, I felt like I had to sit up a little straighter because like you're right. Um, but what are some things that people could do at home to just kind of get that ball rolling to, to, to.

[:

[00:14:15] Noah: For sure that I never went into the breath, but I wanted to just go into that real quick.

[:

[00:14:43] And so breathing through our nose is going to bring more oxygen into our bodies, into our brains. We're going to be less reactive. Um, we're not going to, you know, the needle. I, I look at it like a needle on the, on the Richter scale. [00:15:00] the news comes on, it spikes up, you know, Um, we buy something, it spikes down, whatever it is, it's happening around us at all times.

[:

[00:15:28] And then if you're at home, what you can do is, is, is get your couch and throw it away,

[:

[00:15:43] Noah: You can just become like, um, well, you can first start just by breathing through your nose and that itself will bring a different type of awareness to you. And once you have an awareness, you can kind of make subtle changes, whether it be, you know, a good one for a lot of the girls that I [00:16:00] see, this is really common.

[:

[00:16:30] Pull your belly button in and push it in. And that. Bring your body up a little bit. Um, and then posturally like the breath work. It helps with the posture. A lot of us have, uh, different torsos. So our, our ribs may be, you know, um, they may be not open as well as they could be. And through breath exercises, those ribs become like a, like a, like a, like a, uh, just a, just open.[00:17:00]

[:

[00:17:22] So little things, but the little things ask all the athletes, all the best athletes in the world. They'll tell you, it's the little, little things that they do. Cause then once they get to the level, it's, it's, what's going to separate them from the other guys. It's just those nuances, those little tiny things that you need to do all the time consecutively consistently.

[:

[00:17:51] Nikki C: Nice. Nice. That's those are that's. I never, you know, you don't even really think about the, you know, the breathing and, and the fact that your, [00:18:00] you know, your lungs can expand or your rib cage can expand in that way. So that's good food for thought in a way.

[:

[00:18:35] Noah: That's a great question. I have chicken skin right now, which, which we call goosebumps in Hawaii. It's called chicken. That's a good thing. I think, you know, it just the way and some of the things that I've been through in my life, um,

[:

[00:19:17] I feel emotional about it a little bit because there are so many people that need something, you know, whatever it is. Um, I don't know, but. There's people that are they're hurting inside. You know, there's people that need to talk to somebody there's people that need to be loved and hugged and helped and just everything.

[:

[00:19:55] Nikki C: I mean, the fact that you can even put it in that words, I'm sure just [00:20:00] that alone shows that you you're very untapped to your, this, this connection, this oneness with self and, and understanding the importance of having that mind, body and spirit aligned and connected.

[:

[00:20:33] You just didn't know where you were going to go or you know, where life was leading. You, you didn't have a plan. You weren't sure. No one ever asked you and for you to, to get to this place now where you're taking that talent, that you know, that, that starting with, you know, your, your studies, your personal, just for your own personal growth.

[:

[00:21:16] Noah: time.

[:

[00:21:19] Nikki C: So now you're in a place where, you know, you have had these experiences, life experiences that have changed you, you know, there are less than. Um, surrounding us in everyone that we encounter or come across for you, um, who has been that catalyst of those lessons?

[:

[00:21:43] Um, I mean,

[:

[00:22:19] Um, and, and not being too hard, you know, like soften up grace understanding. But, uh, but the biggest thing I think with working with the elderly is listening to what they have to say,

[:

[00:22:55] Um, and when she was young, her name's Bethany. Yeah. And it was a long time ago. [00:23:00] Yeah, she's she has one arm. And so I've, I've done some work with her. She's a professional surfer, um, by just, and then some other, some other individuals that were in her circle. And that really put, cause I went to a camp that she had with like 20 quadriplegic and different, you know, women that had different accidents and such, and some of them had, you know, one leg to leg, one arm, no arms, no leg.

[:

[00:23:55] Compassion. Those are the two pillars that I get from work. I [00:24:00] mean, you know, just the people that I've worked with, but really anyone really, if you tap in, that's kind of important. I would say those, those are two really good ones. Yeah.

[:

[00:24:17] And even if you don't agree with whatever you know, going on or how their, their thought process or whatever. Just knowing that, you know, I may not agree with how you got where you got, but I understand, you know, I feel, and I, and I, and I understand what you're feeling. I can't, you know, be completely, but I can really empathize and connect on that level.

[:

[00:24:54] Noah: growth? That's an interesting question because I don't, when [00:25:00] I think of a mentor, I think of a D like having a dad first. And so that's a missing piece in my life.

[:

[00:25:37] If I'm going through something that I can't talk to my, you know, well, no, not necessarily. Cause I think my first person I would talk to would be my wife, but like as a mentor, he's definitely somebody that is a teacher. He's my. You know, um, I also have a jujitsu [00:26:00] teacher, um, and then there's been some guys in my industry that I look up to in the biomechanics world that are really, really smart.

[:

[00:26:31] Nikki C: Alright. Cool. It's always good to have Emmy, you know, we, we think that, uh, all of our growing, you know, we grow up, we can turn 18 and, you know, we need, we've had our parents in our lives and that's all we need, but the mentor mentorship.

[:

[00:27:03] And so that's always an amazing thing when we can, um, stay connected with people who really impact our lives.

[:

[00:27:12] Nikki C: Okay. So what do you think is one. Common myths about, um, you know, this idea of getting changing your life around and, and, uh, in terms of being a heaven and a healthier lifestyle, what do you think is a myth, a common myth about, um, starting that

[:

[00:27:31] I think everyone's on their own journey. And you got to respect that you gotta have empathy and understanding about that and not everybody's going to eat your salad when you make it. And that's okay. You know, it's okay. There's a lot of salad there and some people are going to eat it. Some people are going to eat it, not like it either.

[:

[00:28:26] Not everyone is standing on solid ground there. And so you have the trust aspect of, of individuals. This is one thing, you know. Um, but yeah, just stay on, you know, everyone has their own journey and don't compare yourself to others around you. Do what you can do in your camera, don't compare yourself to they there for the people

[:

[00:28:51] That is so true. Cause we spend so much of our time comparing our journeys to where other people are and it's, you know, we just have to [00:29:00] realize we're on our own individual journeys. We'll get there when we're meant to be.

[:

[00:29:11] And people get sucked in to two different aspects of, of belief and influence and things of that nature. So it's really, I think, just peeling off the layers and finding your way through the different valleys and peaks that you need to go through to, to.

[:

[00:29:40] So we're gonna get to our quick little random round questions. Um, so what do you do to stay motivated?

[:

[00:30:06] Um, I do have some inner motivation inside of me, you know, just, it's just, it just needs to be awakened, but like all people, you know, it's all, it's all it's in there somewhere. Um, but yeah, it's in there. It's in there, but I'm finding, I think, finding your purpose. So like for me, I want to be around with my family as long as I can, because I love them as, as, as more than anything in the world.

[:

[00:30:40] Nikki C: Yes. That makes complete

[:

[00:30:45] Nikki C: but I like that. I like that answer. I think it was a great answer. Um, so I would say what is something that makes you smile?[00:31:00]

[:

[00:31:17] Nikki C: Cool. Cool. All right. Last one. Um, where do you go when you want to be.

[:

[00:32:00] And I'll just, I think that's, that's my biggest one. It's like, I'm going to go to the store, I'll take a drive around, you know, listen to some music cool off of the AC. And then I get to go in the grocery store and in my own little world. And I was funny because yesterday I was, I was in the grocery store with.

[:

[00:32:40] Nikki C: Awesome. Awesome. I love it. I love well. Oh my gosh. I just want to thank, you know, you've been amazing. Thank you for just sharing your story with us and telling us all these really cool and inspiring things to kind of, um, Look forward to keep motivated and maybe put into practice, [00:33:00] um, especially that breathing and that posture.

[:

[00:33:03] Noah: work on that. Absolutely. You you're gonna have a, uh, you're gonna have a free session with me if you, if you'd like and totally open, um, you can DME and, um, I really appreciate this. This was fun and really cool. And I recommend it and it's therapeutic even it's therapeutic and it's really cool.

[:

[00:33:29] Nikki C: Thank you. I'm definitely going to take you up on that offer. All right. So, um, for the listeners who want to get more information about you or learn more about your, um, coaching and courses, where can they go?

[:

[00:33:47] The easiest way is, is I am no a pair of Jean on Instagram. Um, and you can send me a DM through there. I work a lot off of Instagram. I get a lot of clients off of there. Just kinda, you know, communicating and things of that [00:34:00] nature on the back ends. Um, but yeah, Instagram or my website would be best.

[:

[00:34:07] Great. Great, great. So I will make sure I put that information in the description and I just want to thank everyone for joining us today and to tune in every Thursday at 10:00 AM for new episode, and remember to hit the subscribe button so that you won't miss any episodes. And until we meet again, I'm your host, Nikki.
