Ah January, you are such a strategic month. Recently I was asked “do I have to have all of 2023 figured out by the New Year?” As a coach I don’t have your answer, so we explore that and as an Entrepreneur I say NO! In fact, it has really taken the pressure off knowing that the entire month of January was strategic planning, the whole month.
Today we visit the 3A’s (Align, Assess, and Assign) to get clear on moving ideas to outcomes. It is ok to be thoughtful and purposeful as you set up 2023, I encourage it.
Even if you have 2023 locked in, the 3A’s will help you get even clearer as you take that inspired action to your success.

And I get to be a coach and a champion for you each week so that you feel inspired, motivated, and most important in action toward your unique impact in this world.
in what you are creating for: ful as you continue to set up:In fact, I totally encourage it. I really do. You know, you heard me say last week, I like to take December to really wind down and be complete and enjoy time with family and friends and celebrate the year, which is why I take January to really lock it in. And I give myself a lot of permission to go for it and be thoughtful.
So, A little bit of what I've learned along the way. I'm giving you today. Hey, I also wanted to remind you that the Lift Her Group Coaching program is open. Registration's Open. You can head to the show notes. You can click on the link to take you over to my website. You can set up a clarity call. To see the value and the fit for you for taking on this next year in a way that is gonna blow your mind with the transformation that you will create beyond what you can even imagine.
So head over there, check it out, and enjoy in your time. That's today's episode. I'll talk to you soon. Hey there, you guys. Welcome to today's episode of, let's Be Honest, before we start pretending, this is Coach Kelly and we are middle, middle January. I almost said middle July. How many of you guys do that?
It's January, not July. Let us not fast forward that quickly. Okay. I am super excited about today's topic and um, it's an important one. I think that. I mean, I'm always looking for what are some of the gifts that have been received over the last two years in what I think has been just such an, uh, time of immense uncertainty.
Like so much uncertainty with the pandemic and just when you think things are like, oh, There's a light at the end of the tunnel, then boom. No there's not. Right? And so, boy, I'll tell you what, attitude has been everything to carry us through that. And um, the thing that I've seen come up so much with so many people is uncertainty.
And our brain just doesn't love that. Our brain doesn't love uncertainty. Our brain wants to be able to plan and move forward and get to solutions quickly. It doesn't really know what to do with uncertainty. And so our brain fights us and it can become exhausting. It can create anxiety and all sorts of things.
So I think one of the things that's so important, As one of the gifts that have come out from my, you know, practically two years, almost two years now, is giving ourselves permission to really slow down, to really be thoughtful, to really be purposeful, to give ourselves permission to go ahead and plan and dream.
and I am really excited about:And even despite uncertainty, even despite not knowing. All the answers, which you guys, we never really know all the answers. We really don't. So one of the questions that I get asked a lot is, and especially this time of year, because I think, you know, we spend so much time at the end of a year closing it down.
own and getting ready to plan: ything. That you're up to for:And again, we're gonna talk about that in a little minute. We just coined a little minute a a little minute ago. . Okay. No, you don't have to know it all. Come January 1st. In fact, what if you had January be a strategic planning? Think about that for a second. I don't know that we all do that. I know for me personally, it's something that I am doing.
g. You know, what happened in:Number two, reassess what has worked, not worked. So important because you can shift what doesn't work and put new practices in place and you can leverage what did not work. And number three, right now, write it down. Schedule those action steps and get accountable so that the three Rs are so important as we're ending the year.
And as a matter of fact, you can use them every month, every quarter, the three Rs get real reassess. And right now, They're so important because they help us stay on track. They help us finish strong, they help us look ahead and they work. They work. So we've talked a lot about that on past episodes and right now what I wanna talk with you guys about is something that I think is super beneficial and that is having January be like your strategic planning.
How fun would that be? Does it take some pressure off of you? Do you have to know everything right now? The answer is absolutely not. Absolutely not. And so what I like to use in the month of January during a strategic planning month, I've carved out time at the end of the year to finish it strong. And I've began, I've begun to look ahead.
got like a very good. Of what: only thing that I'm up to in:It's happening. That's it. Do you guys wanna know what it is? I probably should share what the one personal thing is. Okay. So my one personal thing is to. I feel like I'm constantly in this never ending declutter, organizing. Now it's not that the house is completely cluttered, it just, things seem to, I don't know where they come from, but they just reappear and I have been wanting to completely organize my closet and my bedroom and have it, you know, just be this really great place to retreat.
And also, um, just a couple of other areas in the house. Just sort of change it up, change it up a little bit. We're we're empty nesters and I don't know, just, I just feel like change , so change would be good. So that's another non-negotiable and it's one of those things that is gonna be spread out. and I have an end date, so I'm really clear on that.
u know how a lot of people in:I should have, you know, changed the furniture. I should have. Okay. Do you hear all those shoulds who said, I think it's great that people did it and, and, and got all of those completions? Cuz man, how great did it feel? And I started a podcast. That's what I did. And maintained a business and supported people in their businesses and in their lives.
And you know what? That, that is completely enough. Now I will say we did do the Great Purge. We did do that. Okay. That counts. Yes. And that's plenty. That's enough. And now I'm really excited. TOS. See what it would look like changing some things up. So I'm excited about that. Remember, last week we talked about worthy goals and it absolutely excites me.
It motivates me and I'm really passionate about it. And it's the same thing with the group coaching program. So those are the one things, does not mean that I don't have other things that are happening. There are some other goals. I have goals for the podcast. I have, you know, some health goals. I have other things.
And I also look at where am I collaborating, what are some other projects that I wanna do? And so what I do, it's easy to slap it all down onto a piece of paper. And here's all the things and what I noticed. In this month of January, as I'm being really thoughtful, really purposeful about this is it didn't feel like I had a lot of breathing room.
As a matter of fact, I had put too much in. And that was my biggest learning. That was my biggest learning. And I had to go back and go, why is it? How is it that I've put so much in that it's feeling, I'm feeling anxious. I don't wanna feel anxious in a new year. I wanna feel alive, I wanna feel excited. I wanna feel like, yes, let's go.
till working out things in my:It's okay. And how fun is that? It takes the pressure off. It has you stop, pause and be really thoughtful, really purposeful about where you, what you're moving. So I like to use the three A's, and here's what the three A's are. The first one is Align. And what I mean by Align is does this align with my purpose in my business, in my life?
Does it align with my purpose and that forward movement? Does it align with my vision for myself? Does it, does it align with who I intend to? Is this worthy goal? Is this worthy outcome? Is this dream in alignment with my purpose, my vision, and who I'm being right now? It's a really important question because some people have a million ideas that they wanna take on, and they're all great.
They're all great. And what's that saying? You can have it all, but you can't have it all right? Now, that is a true story, and as we design harmony in our life, it's important to remember. It's important to remember. So the very first question you wanna ask yourself is, does this? Does this goal I have, does this outcome that I'm thinking about creating?
Does it align with my purpose? Does it align with my vision, and does it align with who I'm being now? What do I mean with who I'm being? What I mean by that is who am I being in this next year? I think that we're learning a lot about who we are each and every year. That ticks by, right? So I know for me, who I'm being in this next year is someone who is present, someone who is learning and growing, and someone who is creating impact in my life and the lives of others.
Those happen to be my three words for the year impact growth. Well, actually, therefore, aren't they actually growth? There's three. I have three words. Growth, impact, and. Okay. And growth. I think learning comes with growth. So it has me look at like, that's who I'm being right now, not something I'm, you know, working towards.
It's every single day I get to look at, am I being impactful? Am I open to growth? Am I being present? Those are states of being, that's who I'm being. I'm being impactful. I'm being open and curious. Therefore, that leads to growth. How about that? And. I'm being present because when we're being present in this moment right now, it's the moment we've got and we can maximize it.
We can maximize it when we're focusing on the past or when we're focusing on the future. We're gonna miss stuff. We're gonna miss stuff, and both of those can lead to lots of non resourceful states that just don't work. So what would it be to be present right here, right now, in this moment? What would be available?
Okay, so that's what I mean by who am I being? Who am I being? It might be I'm being joyful. I'm being calm, I'm being focused. I'm being energetic, I'm being brilliant. I'm Bri, I'm being loved. You can decide any of those states of being and make sure that what you're up to isn't in alignment with who you're being, your vision and your purpose.
Okay? That is a number one. A number two. Assess, and what I mean by that is I'm assessing does this outcome or goal or idea that I have, Is it something that I can get behind mind, body, and soul, that I can invest mind, body, and soul, and stay sane, truly stay sane? That's a very big question to ask as entrepreneurs.
Truly, am I gonna stay sane? You know, it, it's, it's, it's something that, that we're looking at constantly. Is this something that I'm gonna take on and I can really invest my whole mind, body, and soul? So meaning, is my mindset intact? What's gonna be required to keep it? So what am I gonna implement, body? Am I getting enough sleep?
Am I moving my body? Getting that exercise, getting that nutrition? Am I ready for this? I don't know. Sometimes we're never ready, but can we get ready? Can we look at that with our investments from our whole mind, body, and soul? And soul is for me, is this part of God's plan? That's what it is for me. Is this part of God's plan for me to move forward?
to look at when I'm assessing:And when I assess, Is my mind, body, and soul in, am I all in mind, body, and soul? All right. And then the final A, the third A is a sign. A sign. And so what I mean by a sign is prioritize it for real. For real because if you've gone through that process, you know that's like the one thing, right? You know it in your bones, you know it in your mind, body and soul.
You know it. And so you might as well prioritize it for real and get that on your number one list. And some people will have more than number one, maybe one to three, whatever that is, don't overload yourself. You guys don't overload. Okay, so you wanna prioritize it for real. That means you've gotta schedule it, you've gotta write it down so that, that it's actionable and you are moving toward the thing.
Cuz when you write it down, when you schedule it in, when you begin to get an action, it's real. It's happening. So you want to make sure that you assign. as a priority for real, so that you can look at what are the boundaries that are gonna be required to support me in having that priority work? And when you look at it from that place of mind, body, soul, and what is required to rally behind it, and when you look at does it align, then you're gonna be able to see very clearly what's wanted and needed for you to move forward.
Now you guys, that takes some time. We don't just decide that in one day. So can you imagine like having that month, January, be that strategic planning month for the year, gives you the space to create? And so my answer, do I need to know everything for the next year right now? No, you don't. As a matter of fact, we have 365 days every single day.
We really. That's not to say, to sit on it like a mother hen waiting for it to hatch. That's not to say let all the things that get in your way to stop, you become your excuses for not having it happen. What it is, is it's giving yourself permission to be thoughtful and purposeful. As you move through this month of January.
, or it was toward the end of:And holy moly. You should see what they created in that year. It was incredible. And so I had some amazing learning from that. Unoccupied space is great because you know what? Moore's gonna get revealed more in what is set on course already from you. Whether it's from God, the universe, spirit, whomever Moore gets revealed more, gets revealed to you.
So make sure that you have a little unoccupied space. So what does that mean? Don't fill it all. Don't fill it all up. You can have your one thing. It's okay. And then the waterfalls that come from the one thing, don't fill it all up. Don't feel like you have to. Now, for some of you who are like, I got more goals than one Kelly, can I?
Yes you can. Yes. You can be curious about unoccupied space for you and what that would look like. Because sometimes we get a little uncomfortable in unoccupied space. I know that. You know, one of my things is if I don't have space filled up, if I'm not constantly doing , well then shoot, it's all gonna fall apart.
No, it's not. Remember I told you that the broken elbow is literally, I think, gonna be the metaphor for this next year. One of the biggest things that I learned in breaking my elbow and having surgery and going through the healing process is that, oh, this new schedule in my life, this slowing down of sorts and being thoughtful and purposeful is pretty darn cool.
So how do I take that into the next year without breaking another limb? How about. . So unoccupied space, it works. Give yourself permission to have some of that so that you can slow down and think about, you know, how do I wanna feel? How do I wanna feel? You know, I know for me, I wanna feel calm. I wanna be able to be present.
I wanna have freedom and flexibility. Well, that's gonna require me to slow down and have some unoccupied space because more always gets reveal. All right. That is what is happening for today's episode. So remember our three a's align. Make sure it's aligned with your purpose, your vision, and who you're being assess is, is can your mind, body and soul just rally in and get behind what you're up to?
And assign meaning, set that priority for real and have boundaries that support. Make sure you've got some unoccupied space so that you can have the best year ahead and have January be your strategic planning month. I mean, how cool is that? We get a whole month. Why not? It's so fun. Okay, you guys, I also have some great news for you.
