Hello Happiness Seekers

In each short episode I bring you one practical hack to create more happiness at work, in relationships and in your own skin.

This happiness hack is all about nature.

You will know intuitively what scientific research confirms: nature makes us happy. People consistently report higher levels of happiness when they are outdoors and in green, natural environments.

This is because being exposed to nature reduces the level of stress hormones, results in an increase of positive emotions such as joy or wonder, and relaxes our brains.

So I invite you to go for a walk in nature; it might be a familiar spot or you could find a nature spot you haven’t visited yet and plan a day trip to explore it.

Wherever your walk takes you; whilst on your nature walk, I want you to engage in finding colours in nature.

This idea comes from colour therapy which explores how the colours around us influence our happiness. And spotting different colours in nature can boost their effect on your mood, doubling your happiness. For instance, blue is a calming colour and when feeling anxious, looking at the blue sky helps people to feel relaxed quicker. Yellow and orange are uplifting colours, so spotting yellow leaves, yellow flowers or sitting in the sun or seeing beautiful sunrises energises us to take action. Purple, often seen after storms or during sunsets, is especially beneficial for mediation and closure.

Next time, when in nature on your walk, pay attention to the colours around. How do these make you feel?

Thank you for listening to the Happiness Reset Campaign, I hope this happiness hack is useful and impactful. To learn more listen to episode 48: How to reconnect with nature or #81 Three ways nature impacts your happiness
