Summary
Have you ever wondered how to avoid spiritual attacks before they hit your home? If you are tired of constantly fighting fires and feeling spiritually ambushed, you are not alone. Living in constant crisis is exhausting, especially when you are desperate for proactive peace! In this episode of the Arise Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson focuses on proactive defense, showing you how to close the gaps before the adversary even starts an attack.
We explore the "Guardrail Principle" using the story of Joseph fleeing Potiphar's wife (Genesis 39), which teaches us the critical importance of pre-deciding our moral standards. Tamara also shares how to develop a "spiritual radar" by looking at how Abigail wisely de-escalated a brewing catastrophe in 1 Samuel 25. By watching and praying, you can intercept the enemy's whispers before they turn into a full-blown family crisis!
Finally, learn how to refuse the trap of "good distractions" just like Nehemiah. Sometimes the enemy keeps us so busy with good projects that we become too exhausted to stand guard over our families. Tune in to learn how to courageously clear your plate, protect your sacred time, and use the discernment of our Savior Jesus Christ to protect what matters most! Whether you need to delete a book with compromising content or step away from a demanding commitment, this episode will help you establish boundaries today.

Hey my friend, have you ever wondered how you can avoid spiritual attacks before they hit your home and family?
Maybe because you're tired of constantly fighting fires, feeling spiritually ambushed by toxic contention, and you want to know how to stop the enemy from getting a foothold in your home in the first place.
This can feel so exhausting to live in constant crisis when you want proactive peace.
Well, take heart, because by the end of today's episod, you will know how to set pre decided guardrails, how to use your spiritual radar to de escalate brewing storms, and how our Savior Jesus Christ gives you the discernment to protect what matters most.
Let's dive in Ordinary women Extraordinary Faith When God calls, we say yes.
Hello and welcome back to the Arise Women of God podcast.
I'm your host Tamara K. Anderson, and today we are focusing on proactive defense, learning how to close the gaps before an attack from the adversary even starts.
As we talk about how to avoid spiritual attacks, here's what we're going to cover in today's episode first, the Guardrail Principle what Joseph fleeing Potiphar's wife and Psalm 101 can teach us about pre deciding our standards and why I delete Kindle books with swearing.
Second, the spiritual radar and de escalation.
Here we'll talk about the story of Abigail and how she was able to disarm an entire army and how we can use this technique to help our teens when they are struggling.
Third, we'll talk about refusing distractions.
Here we'll talk about how Nehemiah resisted distractions.
And I'll share a story of how a not to do list led me to step away from a radio show and to have more time for what matters most.
Let's begin with our first defense line, pre deciding your standards.
When we talk about avoiding spiritual warfare, Scripture is clear that we aren't supposed to see how close we can get to the edge of the cliff.
Lets look at Psalm:I hate the work of them that turn aside it shall not cleave to me.
And first, Thessalonians 5:21 22 Paul instructs, prove all things.
Hold fast to that which is good.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
This is the guardrail principle.
Avoiding an attack means establishing generous margins well before you reach dangerous territory.
Let's look at the story of Joseph in Genesis 39:7 12 Day after day, Potiphar's wife pressured him to compromise his virtue.
Joseph didn't stay in the room to debate, counsel her, or test his willpower.
When she grabbed his cloak, Joseph broke free and ran right out of the house.
True spiritual strength knows when to outrun the trap.
The secret to Joseph escape was that his standard was decided before he even walked in that room.
This is a great thing to do with your kids.
Sit down with them, whether they're young or teenagers, and help them decide their actions in advance.
Right now, what will you do if someone offers you a vape?
What will you do if pornography pops up on a friend's phone or on your computer?
What will you do when someone starts bullying another kid?
When the decision is made in advance, the exit strategy is already there.
They know what they're going to do.
I've had to apply this exact same rule in my life as an adult.
I love to read and years ago I learned I had to become very selective with the books I downloaded onto my Kindle.
I noticed a subtle pattern emerging.
If a book had casual swearing, it almost led to unvirtuous scenes, compromised morals, or maybe more explicit content.
So I made a firm pre decided boundary.
The moment I start seeing swearing in a book, I stop reading, close it, and either return it or delete it off my device.
I refuse to get to the point where I'm consuming smut because entertaining gray areas in media dims our own spiritual light and leaves kind of a crack in our armor where attacks can slip right through.
Our second strategy for avoiding attacks is developing a spiritual early warning system.
In Matthew:The spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak.
Notice Jesus didn't just say pray, he said watch and pray so that you do not enter into the trap.
Morning prayer is like activating an internal spiritual radar that kind of scans the horizon before the day begins.
,:David was furious.
He strapped on his sword and marched with his 400 armed men to wipe out Nabal's entire household.
Abigail heard about the brewing catastrophe and she didn't sit around waiting for blood to be spilled.
She acted immediately, packing up donkey loads of food and riding out.
Intercept David.
While on the road, with humble and wise words and practical care, Abigail completely de escalated David's anger before a single sword was drawn, saving her household from destruction.
Oh my friends and fellow mothers.
Avoiding spiritual warfare often looks like wise early de escalation.
When you keep your Spiritual radar attuned to heaven in morning prayer, the Holy Spirit can alert you when something feels off in your home.
There have been so many times when as a mom, I would be going about my day and I would suddenly feel a distinct spiritual whisper.
Go check on your son or go see what's going on with your daughter.
I would walk into their room only to find them sitting in tears or drowning in quiet anxiety or fac facing an intense battle in their mind.
Because the Lord prompted me to watch and pray, I was able to intervene with God's help, pray with them, cast out the adversaries, discouraging whispers, and intercept the attack before it turned into a crisis.
You can do the same with your family.
Finally, our third strategy is recognizing when the enemy is using good things to to distract you from the essential things.
Let's look at Nehemiah and Nehemiah 6:1:4.
The walls of Jerusalem were nearly finished.
So the enemies of Israel sent four separate invitations asking Nehemiah to come down and meet them on the plain of Ono to talk.
But Nehemiah saw straight through their scheme.
He sent back this bold reply.
I am doing a great work so that I cannot come down.
Why should the work cease while I leave it and come down to you?
One of the adversary's primary tactics against Christian women is keeping us so busy with good projects, church responsibilities, helping in the community and endless obligations that we become too exhausted to stand guard over our families.
Years ago, I found myself in this exact trap.
I was spread so thin that I felt drained spiritually, emotionally and physically.
And so I sat down and wrote out a complete inventory of everything, taking my time, what we call our not to do list.
And I took it to God in prayer.
Lord, what is here that you never asked me to carry?
As I prayed, God gave me a very clear, unexpected prompt.
He inspired me to step away from a weekly radio show I was hosting with two dear friends and guys.
I loved that show.
It was good, uplifting work.
But it was taking prep time, mental energy and emotional bandwidth that God urgently needed me to invest back in my home.
Right at that time, one of my teenage sons was at a hinge point and needed some guidance.
God knew where my spiritual presence was needed most.
Stepping away from that radio show gave me the time to sit on my son's bed, listen to his heart and pray over him.
Saying no to a good thing allowed me to say yes to God's great work for my family.
Oh my dear sister.
Avoiding spiritual attacks comes down to setting pre decided guardrails keeping your spiritual ears open and courageously clearing off your plate so that you can protect your sacred time and ground.
