Hello, darling heart, and welcome to the Drink Less, Live Better podcast.
-:
This is the podcast that helps you to see that drinking less doesn't need to be stressful, lonely, or boring.
-:
I'm your host, Sarah Williamson, and I decided to have a year alcohol free as a little life experiment and haven't looked back?
-:
With my experience and training, I now help other people with their alcohol free or drink less adventures.
-:
You can find out more and sign up to my 5 day drink less challenge at drink less, live better.com.
-:
I'm here to tell you that you can relax, connect, and have fun without alcohol in your life.
-:
Join me here each week to find out how.
-:
Now I haven't recorded a podcast in the things you'll never hear me say series for a long time, so here is something you'll never hear me say.
-:
You can't shock me, And yet I used to say that really regularly.
-:
When I was working in youth offending I thought I was completely unshockable.
-:
I thought I'd heard it all or seen it all before.
-:
In fact, I might just have been a little bit jaded and a little bit run into the ground by that point.
-:
I never say you can't shock me now because, actually, I do find myself shocked, upset, hurt by lots of the things that go on in my world.
-:
I think my clients are incredibly courageous, and I would never ever do them the disservice of telling them that they can
-:
or can't make me have any kind of reaction to any story that they tell me.
-:
My clients are totally in control of their own thoughts, feelings and actions and, actually, they can't control mine.
-:
We work together to come to a place of awareness,
-:
gentle noticing and then acceptance of some of the things that are going on for them.
-:
Those stories might feel very shocking, they might feel big, they might feel heavy, they might feel really unwieldy to a client
-:
in any given moment, but we really gently look at what is going on, talk the stories through, discuss the feelings and the
-:
thoughts associated with them, and gently, gently move on from that point.
-:
We look at the places where action can be taken, and, of course, there are some places where action doesn't need to be taken at this precise moment.
-:
In my 1st year of sobriety, at certain points I made being sober almost my full time job, it required so much time, so much
-:
energy, so much attention, and it doesn't feel like that anymore.
-:
It feels so much lighter, and that's because I have been able to bring alignment into so many different areas of my life.
-:
I know now that I'm much more living in line with my core values.
-:
I'm much more acting in accordance with who I am every single day, and it feels so much better like that.
-:
So, yes, I don't know whether you can shock me or not.
-:
You can give it a really good go.
-:
I might bring my poker face or I might not.
-:
I've certainly laughed with my clients and cried with my clients. My clients are so resourceful.
-:
They absolutely, generally know the things that they can do to move forward from where they are right now, and whether I'm
-:
shockable or not really doesn't matter to my clients.
-:
