[:

[00:00:09] Frank Roll: Hollywood and the independent video store

[:

[00:00:22] Scott Moran: Does this hold up? And just what the hell is a good movie anyway? I'm Frank Roll. I'm Scott Moran. And we're the Last Video Store Clerks.

[:

[00:00:37] Frank Roll: Uh. Designated Survivor,

[:

[00:00:45] Frank Roll: through the day. It's like a really sad 80s song.

[:

[00:00:53] Scott Moran: With nothing happening. Could everyone just leave me alone?

[:

[00:01:00] Scott Moran: the day. Maybe you should run a fruit stand on the side of the road or

[:

[00:01:09] Frank Roll: Like, I thought it was way overdone for a while.

[:

[00:01:29] Frank Roll: Did you notice how in Aliens, when they step on that wheel at the end, it just moves, but then all of a sudden she can't pull it open? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Yeah, I know that I talked about that already. I have not gotten a chance to see the one about

[:

[00:01:48] Frank Roll: the list, but you know, I accomplished some other things the other, you know, in my downtime.

[:

[00:01:55] Scott Moran: Yeah, I've just been watching nerdy shit.

[:

[00:02:03] Scott Moran: newest What was the last one you saw?

[:

[00:02:10] Scott Moran: Like end game was like the last thing. The last new thing that I saw, you watch any of the shows or anything I meant to,

[:

[00:02:25] Scott Moran: Oh no, I think it was Loki. And then she Hulk,

[:

[00:02:28] Frank Roll: Yeah. And then now there's Fury, Fury, whatever, what is it like? Oh, Secret

[:

[00:02:47] Frank Roll: and watch The Punisher.

[:

[00:02:55] Scott Moran: was Thomas Jane a good punisher though. I don't think he was I mean

[:

[00:03:04] Scott Moran: series I think John Bernthal does a good job.

[:

[00:03:32] Scott Moran: Marvel is... I'm, I'm feeling kind of burnout. But, there's so much.

[:

[00:03:37] Scott Moran: so much. I liked Loki way more than I expected to. It was Owen Wilson, to be perfectly honest. Because it's like a buddy cop. Time travel. Owen Wilson has a mustache. It's great. What's not to like about that? Well,

[:

[00:03:55] Scott Moran: it.

[:

[00:04:04] Frank Roll: I'm just, I'm out of it. People talk about it. People have done whole podcasts on this, man. There's whole series out there. I wish I was that into it. I

[:

[00:04:27] Frank Roll: disney plus last night I finished guardians 3 i've got it all right there in front of me.

[:

[00:04:40] Scott Moran: That's the really weird thing about it is, back then, when Punisher came out, because Punisher was, was that a Marvel, was that, that wasn't Disney. Disney didn't own Marvel

[:

[00:04:53] Frank Roll: And I was like, they're, and even the music, it's like, I feel like that's what they use in some of the Marvel intros now, if it's not just a variation. Yeah, that's true. You know how there's like that, Theme music that goes with the Marvel intro.

[:

[00:05:11] Scott Moran: Like, why the fuck did they make that? That was such a weird, left field Marvel property. And that it ended up being, like, the best one. The thing with, like, the most heart to it. All of the overlying themes. The theme throughout all of this shit is some sort of weird daddy issue. The only person who doesn't have that is Steve Rogers.

[:

[00:05:51] Frank Roll: do you remember who was in The Punisher as his dad?

[:

[00:06:00] Scott Moran: first time. I was gonna say a Sequest reference, but okay. Oh! That was

[:

[00:06:07] Scott Moran: he was the captain on that longer than, uh, he was in Jaws. Didn't this guy end up

[:

[00:06:14] Frank Roll: I

[:

[00:06:17] Frank Roll: Is this phone case starting to yellow? It said non yellowing.

[:

[00:06:28] Frank Roll: That fucking drain is clean as fuck. Um, not dirtiest

[:

[00:06:39] Scott Moran: As far as comic books go, it's kind of a comic book that didn't work a bunch of times. You know,

[:

[00:06:49] Scott Moran: Yes, I also think it's the best written script. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I feel like this one hits me the hardest. Yeah, there are emotional high points that I can think of.

[:

[00:07:04] Frank Roll: You know, I wanted to watch this and you made me watch it. Sooner than I meant to. And I don't know if I was emotionally

[:

[00:07:17] Scott Moran: But it made, you see Rocket's

[:

[00:07:26] Scott Moran: took their fucking time with that story, too. Right at the midpoint of the story. It comes to a head. Oh my god, it was so fucking good. That was some drama.

[:

[00:07:59] Frank Roll: See, so Guardians 2 was the Kurt Russell? Yes. Okay, I think I've only seen that one once or twice. Like I've seen the first Guardians a few times, but the second one I think I've only seen it once maybe twice So when I started this one, I thought I hope it's in there

[:

[00:08:27] Scott Moran: Okay. And Marvel

[:

[00:08:33] Scott Moran: At the end of end game. No way. Yeah. I don't remember that. They reset the

[:

[00:08:42] Scott Moran: Really? Yes. I've re watched those two a couple times. I kinda wanna do I love this shit.

[:

[00:08:54] Frank Roll: now? Well, see, I've talked about the new things that I've missed. I would like to go back and watch up to Endgame over again. Before I jump into anything. I Cause, I wasn't

[:

[00:09:07] Scott Moran: Well, when we've

[:

[00:09:21] Scott Moran: us a while, but we did it. You want to do all of that over again, though?

[:

[00:09:33] Frank Roll: hate me because I won't start a show if I, like, can't watch it from the beginning.

[:

[00:09:43] Scott Moran: So they're technically connected? So

[:

[00:09:49] Scott Moran: Wait, no, and it wasn't in that, it was in the holiday special. Did you see the holiday special? It was

[:

[00:09:56] Scott Moran: Oh man, it bridges the two things.

[:

[00:10:15] Scott Moran: From the room and she he's like fixated on it like that. She ate all the fucking nuts. Hey, while

[:

[00:10:27] Scott Moran: vibes? And then they made the RoboCop reference later.

[:

[00:10:37] Frank Roll: I was like, that's the same face stretch

[:

[00:10:45] Frank Roll: it looked, it was the same. It was very close. It was

[:

[00:11:04] Scott Moran: Are you just gonna start over again? You can do that in comic books, though. They start over again all the time.

[:

[00:11:16] Scott Moran: Hulk? There was a made for TV Nick Fury movie with David Hasselhoff. Was there? Yeah.

[:

[00:11:26] Frank Roll: You know what I mean? Like,

[:

[00:11:30] Frank Roll: like that's what the thing was. Like, you could rent it at a Hollywood.

[:

[00:11:35] Frank Roll: But you know, with the late 90s, early 2000s movies, even Fantastic Four. Oh, man. I haven't thought about, was it Jessica Alba? Oh, and what's his name?

[:

[00:11:50] Scott Moran: He's flamin on. Flamin on, so yeah. They've tried to pull that twice and it hasn't

[:

[00:11:58] Scott Moran: America, I think it worked. Yeah, I know, but I mean like, the Fantastic Four, like, Oh, yeah. They haven't been able to pull that, like, that's the thing.

[:

[00:12:35] Scott Moran: To start there, or to start with fucking X Men. Jesus Christ, you ever go back and watch the first X Men movie? Oh, uh, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's horrendous. But we got a, like, if you get a couple of good ones out of it, you know, it's fine, keep making them. I don't know what you're gonna get at. I'm more excited about seeing what James Gunn does with DC now.

[:

[00:13:13] Scott Moran: I don't know how you're gonna keep me. I mean,

[:

[00:13:16] Scott Moran: return. I hope he returns in a fucking DC movie, you know? Like, I just, I want James Gunn. Are you up on the DC movies? I mean, I've been following things. I haven't seen Blue Beetle or anything like that. No, have you seen Aquaman? Yeah, I've seen all the 1984.

[:

[00:13:37] Frank Roll: haven't seen flash I didn't finish 1984 and I haven't seen Aquaman. What else was there since then

[:

[00:13:53] Scott Moran: I think James Gunn hasn't taken over yet, though. Like, it's like, something he made needs to come out. Let's see where it goes. I mean, Brightburn wasn't that good. He was the producer on that, I think. Or maybe he wrote it or something. Elizabeth Banks was in it. That's weird. Was that Howard the Duck? Yeah.

[:

[00:14:15] Frank Roll: Weird as shit. You know, there's stuff going on in the house, so like every now and then I had to look away. But at one point I swear I heard his voice.

[:

[00:14:28] Frank Roll: Well, just last night when I, I swear I heard his voice, but then like, I didn't see anything, but then when I heard Howard, I didn't hear it, I didn't hear it when I saw him say something, I feel like.

[:

[00:14:38] Scott Moran: that makes sense. Well, I mean, sunscreen does cartoon voices, so. And I mean, he's Chris on fucking Family Guy.

[:

[00:14:48] Scott Moran: the soundtrack. I think that the soundtrack throughout all of these movies is what grounded it as such good science fiction. Was James Gunn really knows how to use...

[:

[00:15:07] Frank Roll: Yeah, not just that, how about the throwback to Redbone at the end? It's just like,

[:

[00:15:22] Frank Roll: much.

[:

[00:15:32] Scott Moran: I didn't even realize it was going to do that to me. I didn't realize how much it was going to affect me that Linda Cardellini was the voice of that otter. Like, something about her voice is very motherly to me.

[:

[00:15:43] Frank Roll: until right before we started talking about this. That's cool though. That's cool. No, no, I was down I think in this movie wasn't it so space hog, you know in the meantime was in this Yeah,

[:

[00:16:02] Frank Roll: And so yeah the the trailer they had that remix and damn I was like that's when you knew what you were gonna get You know with the finale but then hearing it in there so good the music with the fight scenes the Beastie Boys fight scene in the In the

[:

[00:16:16] Scott Moran: Yes. That was the best. That was the best fight scene in this movie.

[:

[00:16:23] Scott Moran: that felt like a Guardians of the Galaxy one. Like, it felt like the original, like, Avengers fight. Perfected. It was like, old boy. It was one fucking shot that just spun around the room.

[:

[00:16:35] Frank Roll: mean, they did get their asses kicked a lot

[:

[00:16:47] Frank Roll: used once. But the way they put, like they cut him out on a shit once. Yeah.

[:

[00:16:55] Scott Moran: Say something and they would relay that he had said something like, you know, that we need to talk about your language or something like that. You know, when he was like a little tiny.

[:

[00:17:12] Scott Moran: Yeah. I wonder if he was there, you know, like Josh Brolin was there when he played Thanos.

[:

[00:17:19] Frank Roll: on his head. Well, I was thinking. Did Vin Diesel go to all the premieres and stuff? I, I don't recall. I don't know.

[:

[00:17:29] Frank Roll: yeah, did have one extra line. Um, no, there were, there were so many good things. Nathan Fillion.

[:

[00:17:37] Scott Moran: He's in all three movies as different people. He's in the prison in the first one. I think he's just the voice of some... Someone. Mm hmm. And then, uh, he is in all the posters as an actor in the second one, like, that are up around everywhere. And then in this one he had a full part, and he was an excellent use of Nathan Fillion.

[:

[00:18:21] Frank Roll: Oh That was like a Dr. Strange power. Yeah, and he

[:

[00:18:27] Frank Roll: No Oh, so did uh,

[:

[00:18:33] Frank Roll: like he did right? That was an infinity stone in his head? It

[:

[00:18:36] Scott Moran: They're all destroyed What was

[:

[00:18:45] Scott Moran: It's like a cubic zirconia infinity stone.

[:

[00:18:50] Scott Moran: sapphire? It's a finite

[:

[00:18:56] Scott Moran: created sapphire? Adam Warlock was

[:

[00:18:59] Frank Roll: He was good. He was good. Drax is always.

[:

[00:19:18] Frank Roll: No the blue button is everyone. Oh man.

[:

[00:19:28] Scott Moran: That's like a 10 on IMDb. It really is. People love

[:

[00:19:32] Scott Moran: movie. Like, how many things go higher than that? Really specific television shows. That's really it.

[:

[00:19:42] Scott Moran: by default.

[:

[00:19:49] Frank Roll: a good dog.

[:

[00:20:04] Scott Moran: That's what you missed. The Kevin Bacon? They kidnapped Kevin Bacon from Earth. Son of a bitch. Ain't Kevin Bacon's in it. Because remember, he's the hero to everything. You gotta watch it. At least, at Christmas, watch it.

[:

[00:20:20] Scott Moran: It also has a little bit of like that, like, that Hobbit rotoscope animation from the 80s.

[:

[00:20:49] Scott Moran: I feel the same way I feel about Star Wars about these movies. I think they're the best Marvel movies. I really like comic book movies. I know a shit one when I see one, I ain't watching a three and a half hour long cut of justice league to watch more Batman dreams.

[:

[00:21:11] Frank Roll: And I was like, you know, I started it. I just... I

[:

[00:21:28] Frank Roll: The Will Smith and the... Will Smith went to

[:

[00:21:34] Scott Moran: They're not? No. Different characters.

[:

[00:21:40] Scott Moran: Kings? With J. Moore?

[:

[00:21:53] Scott Moran: Flannery. Sean

[:

[00:22:00] Frank Roll: She's the

[:

[00:22:04] Frank Roll: There was a Face Off in this movie. As soon as he did it, I even did it in my living room. I was like, Face Off.

[:

[00:22:20] Scott Moran: whatsoever. I am so weirded out that by the end of this, Nebula was like, came the furthest, I think. Yeah,

[:

[00:22:27] Scott Moran: people, right? That was like a well earned character arc.

[:

[00:22:33] Frank Roll: Evil, evil bitch. They kept

[:

[00:22:38] Frank Roll: she tries to open the car door. And I think that was even in some of the trailers.

[:

[00:22:59] Scott Moran: But in the second one, he, like, he, like, takes that guy's eye and he's, like, cracking up about it. All of those characters, the way they changed from the beginning to the end was so crazy.

[:

[00:23:18] Scott Moran: That is one thing you cannot deny, like, the Marvel Cinematic Universe had was It took years for all of these characters to learn their, like, full lessons.

[:

[00:23:44] Frank Roll: like, he was, uh... They were, like, they, yeah.

[:

[00:23:47] Scott Moran: defended him. Man, they gave him his fucking job back. And in the meantime, he directed that sweet Suicide Squad movie also with, uh, Nathan Fillion. Pete Davidson was somewhere in this Guardians of the Galaxy movie also. And he's also in the beginning of the second Suicide Squad. No. Yeah. Oh, you have to see that.

[:

[00:24:10] Frank Roll: newer one and the older

[:

[00:24:14] Frank Roll: I know. See, that's the, I've seen the newers. Are you sure it's not, what's his name? They're not, Idris and Will Smith were not. They're

[:

[00:24:23] Scott Moran: They're not? No. You're sure? Uh huh. Deadshot? Yeah. Idris Elba is not Deadshot. Is it Deadshot? It's almost the same fucking character. Dude,

[:

[00:24:37] Scott Moran: cards. Oh, the fake X Men cards you bought at like an Eckerd?

[:

[00:24:46] Frank Roll: Jesus. I feel like this is like... Oh, you monster.

[:

[00:24:56] Frank Roll: stuff that doesn't need to be, uh, climate controlled... Is in the fucking attic. I had to let go. There are some, like, old Xbox 360 games up there, though.

[:

[00:25:07] Scott Moran: they've probably rippled now. We'll see.

[:

[00:25:10] Scott Moran: enough in the box. They're not like old Nintendo games. They're not gonna survive. I don't know, man. Watching this made me want to play the Guardians of the Galaxy game again. I might pick that back up.

[:

[00:25:23] Scott Moran: up. It was good. I had some complaints about it. But as far as like... Capturing the same spirit. It's hard to do

[:

[00:25:31] Scott Moran: man. Well, this isn't a movie game either. It's just a Guardians of the Galaxy game. It falls somewhere between the comic book.

[:

[00:25:58] Scott Moran: There was never really like a solid, like, continuous Guardians of the Galaxy story. Until James Gunn came along and it started to get moving. I think it might have started around like 2009 was when it took shape. Yeah, this was amazing. The music. You put a Faith No More song in there? Yes. And I was really sad for Gamora at the end.

[:

[00:26:28] Frank Roll: Was her voice different? Like did she do something different with Gamo, Zoe sda?

[:

[00:26:39] Scott Moran: You think it was about

[:

[00:26:45] Scott Moran: I'm like, I'm fine. More inflection. I think she played Gamora kind of deadpan. Earlier on and she became a little more I liked Olga

[:

[00:26:55] Scott Moran: of course, well, she was learning to be a different person. That's it.

[:

[00:27:20] Frank Roll: That was so good,

[:

[00:27:28] Frank Roll: leg. Fucking hilarious. I laughed so fucking hard because it was one of those moments that was just like chaos.

[:

[00:27:35] Scott Moran: Oh, is it? Yeah. Ah, did you tell I was excited by that noise? He just married to Pam from the office. No. Yeah, they were married for years. No. Yeah, back when he was like a trauma guy. Jenna Fisher. Did you see Lloyd Kaufman in this? The guy who directed The Toxic Avenger? He's at the table with, uh, Howard the Duck.

[:

[00:28:00] Frank Roll: haven't seen Toxic Avengers since the early

[:

[00:28:07] Frank Roll: I'm not gonna go see it at Alamo Drafthouse. We're gonna go see, uh, Meg 2 on Saturday.

[:

[00:28:13] Scott Moran: haven't picked out a time yet, though. That's, uh, that's your Marvel. That's what we've learned this summer. But I like doing these summer blockbusters. Yeah. Doing, getting it in at the end. Next week, Lake Placid. No! I've watched it too recently. No? Aw, man. I love it though, Brendan Gleeson.

[:

[00:28:33] Scott Moran: Okay. It has been a long time. Okay, sorry,

[:

[00:28:41] Scott Moran: we have that on the list of versus movies that we're one day gonna

[:

[00:28:47] Scott Moran: Dante's pre versus volcano

[:

[00:28:56] Frank Roll: But Tommy Lee Jones does have status and what an hash was that also Vulcan yeah and hash Tommy Lee

[:

[00:29:25] Scott Moran: Their

[:

[00:29:31] Frank Roll: Oh man. No, hold on. I want to go back to Dante's Peak in Volcano, so I could really get into this. I think. If you were to go to the numbers, I bet you Dante's Peak did better in the box office than

[:

[00:29:52] Scott Moran: It's taken me over a year. But like, if I really wanna, like, You know, well, I have to balance out my weird shit with your shit is just, I can't believe you didn't like timeline with Paul Walker. It that's the only thing that's like kind of a stretch

[:

[00:30:14] Scott Moran: Species every time every
